McNair shot, killed in Nashville

      				The News
According to ESPN, former Titans quarterback Steve McNair was shot in the head and killed in downtown Nashville. We will keep you updated as more details on this awful tragedy emerge.

Our View
Wow. This is a tragedy in the world of football and athletics alike. McNair, a former MVP, was too young to go. He will be missed. Our condolences go out to all who were close to McNair.

Dr. Andrews: Favre wants to play with Vikings

      				The News
According to the Clarion-Ledger, Dr. James Andrews told the paper in an interview that Brett Favre wants to play this season and he wants to do it with the Vikings. Dr Andrews went on to say "He wants to end his career on a high note and I hope he can. He's a tough guy, a great guy. I'm pulling for him. He wants to play. He just wants to make sure his shoulder and arm are healthy enough."

Our View
Well the signs keep pointing to a Favre return, and at this point it seems almost like a certainty. Favre would really shock the world if he didn't come back at this point, so never rule anything out with Brett.

Cromartie consiered sitting out 2008 season

      				The News
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Chargers' cornerback Antonio Cromartie considered sitting out the entire 2008 season after suffering a fractured hip in Week 1. Cromartie had only 2 interceptions last season after picking off 10 in 2007.

Our View
The fractured hip seems to be the biggest reason why his production fell off so much last season. He should still be considered one of the better corners in the league, and expect him to be much better in 2009 than 2008.

Garcia believes he should be starter

      				The News
According to the Chicago Tribune, new Raiders' quarterback Jeff Garcia believes he should be the starter in Oakland this season even though he is second on the depth chart to JaMarcus Russell. Garcia was quoted as saying "Not knocking JaMarcus or anybody else on the team, but I have a belief in my own abilities that has me feeling I am the best quarterback on the team. That's just how I approach the game."

Our View
Garcia has made no bones about the fact that he wants to start this season, and now he is pleading his case. The Raiders almost have to start Russell after drafting him first overall a few years ago, but if he struggles early don't be shocked to see Garcia.

Raiders shopping Sands

      				The News
According to Pro Football Talk, the Raiders are trying to deal defensive lineman, Terdell Sands.

Our View
There was talk during training camp that Sands may get released, so the fact that the Raiders are tying to unload him on someone else isn't much of a shocker. He is due a $1 million roster bonus on July 3rd and Oalkand would love to get out from under that.

Jones and Barber on field together?

      				The News
According to Profootballweekly.com, the Cowboys are thinking of using Felix Jones and Marion Barber on the field at the same time next season.

Our View
The Cowboys talked about doing this last season as well, but it never came to fruition. Jones is explosive and extremely fast though, and if he splits out wide it could be a very dangerous combination on offense. We'll wait and see if Dallas puts their money where their mouth is.

Maybin could start for Bills

      				The News
According to a report on BuffaloBills.com, rookie defensive end Aaron Maybin has a realistic chance to start for the team this season. If Maybin shows he can be effective against the run, he seems to have an excellent chance to win the job.

Our View
Even if he isn't on the field for every down in the beginning of the season, he should be a situational pass rusher at worst this year. He is an exceptional pass rusher, and he could hold some value in IDP leagues, especially if he wins the job.

Vick could play in UFL

      				The News
TSN is reporting that ex-Falcons' quarterback Michael Vick may have an opportunity to play in the new UFL this season. UFL commissioner Michael Huyghus told the media "One of the things that is important in our premiere season is to showcase the quality of talent and the coaches, and to be able to show outstanding players who find themselves in this quagmire the NFL creates," Huyghue said. "Michael Vick might be that kind of player because he is ... a phenomenal talent, but he needs transitionining back into the NFL."

Our View
Vick's NFL status for this season is very much in doubt, and at this point the best move for Vick seems to be the UFL. He can showcase himself in a competitve setting, and more importantly he can do it at the quarterback position. We will keep you updated on the situation.

Pats not interested in McGinest

      				The News
According to ProFootballTalk.com, the Patriots have very little interest in signing Willie McGinest. The Patriots don't feel like McGinest can play up to the level that they expect, and they will not sign him if they don't feel he can contribute on a high level.

Our View
McGinest is nearing the end of his career, and the Pats don't want to bring him in if he can't help the team. Look for McGinest to end up elsewhere, but it is doubtful he will impact any fantasy format.

Eli/Giant negotiations going well

      				The News
ESPN reports there is "no way" contract talks will become contentious between the New York Giants and franchise quarterback Eli Manning.

Our View
Eli is asking for a king's ransom, but the Giants are determined to keep the face of their franchise happy and will surely do so without a hitch.
