Martin Havlat, RW, Minnesota WildWednesday 7/1, 10:18 PM CT
Martin Havlat has departed Chicago to sign a six-year deal with Minnesota worth $30MM, according to TSN.

Our View: The Wild added Havlat after losing Marian Gaborik to the Rangers earlier in the night. Havlat notched 29 goals and 48 assists last season, but also has a poor track record with durability like Gaborik.
Jason LaBarbera, G, Phoenix CoyotesWednesday 7/1, 9:09 PM CT
Jason LaBarbera has left Vancouver to ink a two-year deal with the Coyotes, according to TSN. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: He held a 2.78 goals-against average over 28 games (24 starts) last season. He is a quality addition for Phoenix, but his fantasy value will remain limited as long as No. 1 goalie Ilya Bryzgalov remains intact.
Fredrik Sjostrom, RW, Calgary FlamesWednesday 7/1, 8:43 PM CT
Fredrik Sjostrom has left the Rangers to sign a two-year deal with the Flames worth $1.5MM, according to TSN.

Our View: He only has 41 goals and 88 points over 358 career games in the NHL, and does not look to be fantasy worthy as a member of the Flames.
John Madden, C, Chicago BlackhawksWednesday 7/1, 8:15 PM CT
John Madden has signed a one-year deal with the Blackhawks worth $2.75MM, according to TSN.

Our View: The 36-year-old vet will provide adequate depth at center for Chicago, and was likely added to mentor their younger players, such as rising star Jonathan Toews.
Brian Gionta, RW, Montreal CanadiensWednesday 7/1, 8:08 PM CT
Brian Gionta has left New Jersey to ink a five-year deal with Montreal worth $25MM, according to TSN.

Our View: The Canadiens have been busy today, as they also added Jaroslav Spacek, Hal Gill and dangerous sniper Mike Cammalleri. Gionta is another solid addition, as he scored 20 goals and 40 assists with the Devils last season, while maintaining a solid +12 rating.
Chris Neil, RW, Ottawa SenatorsWednesday 7/1, 7:54 PM CT
Chris Neil has inked a four-year deal worth $8MM to remain with the Senators, according to TSN.

Our View: It was previously stated that Neil turned down a one-year offer at $1.7MM, and Ottawa decided to raise their proposal to keep the enforcer in town. He does not offer much offensively, but racked up 146 penalty minutes over 60 games last season.
John Boychuk, D, Boston BruinsWednesday 7/1, 7:41 PM CT
John Boychuk has signed a one-year deal to remain with the Bruins, according to the Boston Globe. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Boychuk was named the AHL's top defenseman last season, by scoring 20 goals and 45 assists over 78 games. The Bruins will be pleased they were able to retain him.
Marian Gaborik, RW, New York RangersWednesday 7/1, 7:34 PM CT
Marian Gaborik has signed a five-year deal worth $37.5MM with the Rangers, according to TSN.

Our View: Gaborik is capable of being an elite scorer, and could prove to be a great addition for New York if he can just stay healthy. He scored a career-high 42 goals with Minnesota back in 2007-08.
Pavel Kubina, D, Atlanta ThrashersWednesday 7/1, 7:13 PM CT
Pavel Kubina has been traded from Toronto to Atlanta in exchange for blueliner Garnet Exelby and winger Colin Stuart, according to TSN. The Thrashers acquire the rights to forward Tim Stapleton as well.

Our View: Toronto let him to go to trim their payroll, as he is owed $5MM for next season. He will provide a solid offensive upgrade on the Thrashers' blueline, as he scored 14 goals and 26 assists over 82 games last season.
Garnet Exelby, D, Toronto Maple LeafsWednesday 7/1, 7:10 PM CT
Garnet Exelby has been dealt from Atlanta to Toronto at part of the Pavel Kubina trade, according to TSN.

Our View: Exelby is not much of a scorer, but will provide toughness as an enforcer. He notched 120 penalty minutes over 59 games with the Thrashers last season.
Colin Stuart, C, Calgary FlamesWednesday 7/1, 7:04 PM CT
Colin Stuart has been shipped from Atlanta to Toronto as part of the Pavel Kubina trade, according to TSN. The Thrashers receive the rights to forward Tim Stapleton as well.

Our View: Stuart only scored five goals and three assists over 33 games with Atlanta last season, and does not look to hold much fantasy value while providing depth at forward with Toronto.
Jason Strudwick, D, Edmonton OilersWednesday 7/1, 6:53 PM CT
Jason Strudwick has signed a one-year deal worth $700,000 to remain with the Oilers, according to TSN.

Our View: The 33-year-old does not provide much beyond veteran depth on the Oilers' blueline. He should continue to be ignored in fantasy leagues for next season.
Mathieu Garon, G, Columbus Blue JacketsWednesday 7/1, 6:34 PM CT
Mathieu Garon has signed a two-year deal with the Blue Jackets worth $2.4MM, according to TSN. He previously played for Pittsburgh.

Our View: Garon will provide adequate depth in goal, but will not hold much fantasy value as long as stud Steve Mason stays healthy.
Samuel Pahlsson, C, Columbus Blue JacketsWednesday 7/1, 6:19 PM CT
Samuel Pahlsson has inked a three-year deal with the Blue Jackets worth $7.95MM, according to TSN. He previously played for Chicago.

Our View: The 31-year-old center should provide good depth and veteran leadership, but his fantasy stock does not look to improve much in Columbus.
Steve Begin, LW, Boston BruinsWednesday 7/1, 5:58 PM CT
Steve Begin has departed Dallas to ink a one-year deal with Boston worth $850,000, according to TSN.

Our View: Begin only scored seven goals and five assists over 62 games last season, while maintaining a poor -6 rating. The 31-year-old vet was likely added merely to mentor the Bruins' younger players.
Steve Sullivan, RW, Nashville PredatorsWednesday 7/1, 5:42 PM CT
Steve Sullivan has signed a two-year deal worth $7.5MM to remain with the Predators, according to TSN.

Our View: Sullivan received the two-year contract he coveted. Sullivan is capable of solid production, but unfortunately has trouble staying healthy.
Greg Zanon, D, Minnesota WildWednesday 7/1, 5:38 PM CT
Greg Zanon has signed a three-year deal with Minnesota worth $5.2MM, according to TSN. He formerly served with the Predators.

Our View: Zanon should help upgrade Minnesota's blueline, as he held a +8 rating over 82 games with Nashville last season. As a fantasy defenseman, his stock should remain low.
Mike Komisarek, D, Toronto Maple LeafsWednesday 7/1, 5:22 PM CT
Mike Komisarek has left the Canadiens to ink a five-year deal with the Maple Leafs worth $22.5MM, according to TSN.

Our View: That is a sizable contract for a player that only scored 11 points (two goals) over 66 games in 2008-09. He racked up 121 penalty minutes and was added as an enforcer for Toronto's blueline.
Vernon Fiddler, LW, Phoenix CoyotesWednesday 7/1, 5:14 PM CT
Vernon Fiddler has left Nashville as he inked a two-year deal with Phoenix worth $2.2MM, according to TSN.

Our View: Fiddler only scored 11 goals and six assists over 78 games with the Predators last season, and his fantasy stock does not look to improve much as a member of the Coyotes.
Byron Bitz, RW, Boston BruinsWednesday 7/1, 5:12 PM CT
Byron Bitz has signed a deal to remain with the Bruins, according to TSN. Terms were not disclosed

Our View: Bitz provides solid depth at forward for Boston, but does not see quite enough ice time to be useful for fantasy leagues.
Michael Cammalleri, LW, Montreal CanadiensWednesday 7/1, 4:52 PM CT
Michael Cammalleri has left Calgary as he inked a five-year deal worth $30MM with the Canadiens, according to TSN.

Our View: This was a big signing for Montreal, as Cammalleri racked up 39 goals and 43 assists over 81 games in 2008-09. The club needs to add more firepower while contending in the tough Northeast division, namely with the Bruins.
Kent Huskins, D, San Jose SharksWednesday 7/1, 4:44 PM CT
Kent Huskins has signed a two-year deal worth $3.4MM to remain with the Sharks, according to TSN.

Our View: The 30-year-old blueliner only has six goals and 28 points over 142 career games, and does not look to make an impact in fantasy leagues next season.
David Koci, RW, Colorado AvalancheWednesday 7/1, 4:32 PM CT
David Koci has signed a one-year deal worth $575,000 with the Avalanche, according to TSN.

Our View: He leaves Tampa Bay, and only looks to hold fantasy value in leagues that award points for penalty minutes with Colorado. He notched 141 penalty minutes over 37 games in 2008-09.
Michael Rupp, C, Pittsburgh PenguinsWednesday 7/1, 4:29 PM CT
Michael Rupp has inked a two-year deal with the Penguins worth $1.65MM, according to TSN.

Our View: Rupp racked up 136 penalty minutes with the Devils last season, and will bring toughness to the defending champion Penguins.
Adam Pardy, D, Calgary FlamesWednesday 7/1, 4:15 PM CT
Adam Pardy has inked a multi-year deal to remain with the Flames, according to the Calgary Herald. Terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Pardy is solid defensively, but does not score enough to be useful in fantasy leagues.
Hal Gill, D, Montreal CanadiensWednesday 7/1, 4:11 PM CT
Hal Gill has signed a two-year deal with the Canadiens worth $4.5MM, according to Sportsnet.

Our View: Gill proved his worth as a defenseman in 2008-09 while helping lead the Penguins to the Stanley Cup. He does not score much but held a solid +11 rating over 62 regular season games.
Ian Laperriere, RW, Philadelphia FlyersWednesday 7/1, 4:04 PM CT
Ian Laperriere has inked a three-year deal with the Flyers worth 3.5MM, according to TSN.

Our View: He is not much of a scorer, but provides grit and toughness as an enforcer, as he notched 163 penalty minutes with Colorado in 2008-09.
Scott Clemmensen, G, Florida PanthersWednesday 7/1, 4:01 PM CT
According to TSN.com, Scott Clemmensen left the Devils and signed a three-year $3.6 million deal with the Florida Panthers.

Our View: Clemmensen served as Marty Brodeur's backup last season, and saw a solid amount of playing time when the future Hall of Famer went down with injury. He made it into 40 games and finished with a record of 25-13-1 and posted a solid 2.39 GAA and .917 save percentage. He'll be a backup once again in Florida.
Joel Ward, RW, Nashville PredatorsWednesday 7/1, 3:50 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the Nashville Predators have re-signed forward Joel Ward to a two-year deal worth $3 million.

Our View: Ward put up 35 points in 79 games last season and had his most prolific offensive season to date. Look for him to improve even more next season, and he may even be a fringe late-round pick in fantasy drafts.
Lukas Krajicek, D, Tampa Bay LightningWednesday 7/1, 3:43 PM CT
The Lightning have re-signed defenseman Lukas Krajicek to a one-year deal, according to TSN.com. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Krajicek is the third blueliner to ink a deal with the Lightning today. He's now added into the mix with Matt Walker and Mattius Ohlund.
Brian Boucher, G, Philadelphia FlyersWednesday 7/1, 3:35 PM CT
TSN.com reports that Brian Boucher signed a two-year deal with the Flyers worth $1.85 million.

Our View: Boucher filled in admirably when Evgeni Nabokov went down last season, and although he'll be backing up Ray Emery next season, he'll be able to take the reigns should something happen to Emery.
Erik Cole, RW, Carolina HurricanesWednesday 7/1, 3:30 PM CT
TSN.com reports that the Hurricanes have re-signed veteran winger Erik Cole to a two-year deal worth $5.8 million.

Our View: Cole stumbled last season when he was dealt to Edmonton, but regained his scoring touch in a comfortable reunion with Carolina. He scored 15 points in 17 games after returning to the Canes and should thrive there once again next season. He posted a combined 42 points with Edmonton and Carolina in 2009-10.
Jaroslav Spacek, D, Montreal CanadiensWednesday 7/1, 3:24 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the Montreal Canadiens have signed puck-moving defenseman Jaroslav Spacek to a three-year deal worth $11.5 million.

Our View: Spacek is a veteran blueliner who should compliment Andrei Markov nicely. The two can man the point on the powerplay (Spacek had 22 points there last season) and should give the Habs a fluid transition game as well. Spacek scored eight goals and registered 37 assists in 80 games last season.
Nikolai Khabibulin, G, Edmonton OilersWednesday 7/1, 3:16 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the Edmonton Oilers have signed former Chicago goaltender Nikolai Khabibulin to a four-year, $15 million dollar contract.

Our View: Khabibulin is 36-years-old, but goaltenders in the NHL are like fine wine. They get better with age, so the Bulin Wall should have no problem stymieing offenses into his 40s. Last season he was 25-8-7 in 42 games and had a sterling 2.33 GAA and a .919 save percentage.
Aaron Rome, D, Vancouver CanucksWednesday 7/1, 3:10 PM CT
TSN.com reports that the Canucks have signed defenseman Aaron Rome to a one-year deal worth $550,000.

Our View: The former Blue Jacket only played in eight games last season, and recorded just one point. He'll vie for a spot in the final defensive pairing for the Canucks.
Scott Niedermayer, D, Anaheim DucksWednesday 7/1, 3:06 PM CT
Scott Niedermayer has signed a one-year, $6 million contract to remain with the Anaheim Ducks for another season, according to TSN.com.

Our View: The ageless defender put off retirement for one more year and will be paid handsomely for it. He's already the Ducks' leader on the blueline and in the locker room, but the team will be counting on him even more this season after the departure of Chris Pronger. Niedermayer is still and strong fantasy defenseman and should put up numbers similar to the 14 goals and 45 assists he racked up last season.
Donald Brashear, LW, New York RangersWednesday 7/1, 3:01 PM CT
TSN.com reports that the Rangers have signed veteran enforcer Donald Brashear to a two-year contract worth $2.8 million contract.

Our View: Brashear only had four points in 63 games last season, but the Rangers didn't sign him for his hands around the net. The bruising forward will add toughness and energy, and, for fans, will be fun to watch in a fight.
Mike Knuble, RW, Washington CapitalsWednesday 7/1, 2:56 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the Washington Capitals have signed 36-year-old forward Mike Knuble to a two-year, $2.8 million contract.

Our View: Knuble netted 27 goals last season and added 20 helpers, but those numbers should be on the rise (especially the latter) as he could have some very talented linemates in Wahsington. A couple of guys named Alexander could boost his stats and make him more of a fantasy presence.
Steve Montador, D, Buffalo SabresWednesday 7/1, 2:52 PM CT
TSN.com reports that the Sabres have inked defenseman Steve Montador to a two-year deal worth $3.1 million.

Our View: Montador registered 21 points between Anaheim and Boston last season, but showed his imposing force by racking up 143 penalty minutes. He won't help out many fantasy lineups, but adds depth on the blueline for the Sabres.
Ty Conklin, G, St. Louis BluesWednesday 7/1, 1:50 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the St. Louis Blues have signed former Red Wings' goaltender Ty Conklin to a two-year, $2.6 million contract.

Our View: Conklin will serve as the backup to netminding stalwart Chris Mason, and should see about 25 games of action. Conklin is a capable backup and had a nice season in Detroit last year when Chris Osgood couldn't get it together. He went 25-11-2 with a 2.51 GAA and a .909 save percentage.
Matt Walker, D, Tampa Bay LightningWednesday 7/1, 1:44 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the Tampa Bay Lightning have given defenseman Matt Walker a four-year, $6.8 million contract.

Our View: The solid blueliner is the most recent of Tampa Bay's surprising free-spending deals. Walker was plus-seven with 14 points in 65 games last season and joins number two overall draft choice Victor Hedman and free agent addition Mattias Ohlund as the newest members of the Lightning blueline core.
Dwayne Roloson, G, New York IslandersWednesday 7/1, 1:38 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the New York Islanders have signed former Oilers' goaltender Dwayne Roloson to a two-year contract worth $5 million.

Our View: It is unsure whether Roloson will start or be the Isles' backup. It all depends on the health of incumbent starter Rick DiPietro, but it's a smart move regardless. They now have two options to start, and if one netminder goes down the team won't fall apart. Looks like the Isles are getting their "stuff" together.
Tomas Kopecky, RW, Chicago BlackhawksWednesday 7/1, 1:32 PM CT
TSN.com reports that the Blackhawks have signed former Red Wing Tomas Kopecky to a two-year contract. Financial terms have not yet been disclosed.

Our View: Kopecky, a grinding forward, scored 19 points in 79 regular season games last year, and will add depth to Chicago's offense and checking line. Last season he finished second on the Red Wings with 109 hits.
Marian Hossa, RW, Chicago BlackhawksWednesday 7/1, 1:22 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the Blackhawks have signed free agent winger Marian Hossa to a 12-year, $62.4 million contract.

Our View: Hossa will get $5.2 million per season, but the contract is front-loaded and he will receive $53 million paid out over the first seven years. Hossa racked up 40 goals and 71 points last season and Chicago's newest sniper will likely be paired with budding young playmaker Jonathan Toews. This will inevitably help Toews' fantasy value, and Hossa should be a solid top-round pick once again.
Andy Greene, D, New Jersey DevilsWednesday 7/1, 1:16 PM CT
According to Fire and Ice, the Devils have re-signed defenseman Andy Greene to a two-year deal.

Our View: Financial terms have not yet been disclosed. Greene was slated to become a restricted free agent, but the Devils went ahead and locke him up. He registered nine points and a plus-three rating in 49 games last season.
Craig Anderson, G, Colorado AvalancheWednesday 7/1, 1:11 PM CT
TSN.com reports that the Avalanche have signed goaltender Craig Anderson to a two-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Our View: Anderson will back up the recently re-signed Peter Budaj, but could see a decent amount of time. Last season with the Flames he was 15-7-5 with a 2.71 GAA and an impressive .924 save percentage.
David Booth, LW, Florida PanthersWednesday 7/1, 12:56 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the Panthers have locked up promising young forward David Booth to a six-year, $25.5 million contract.

Our View: Booth put up 31 goals and 60 points last season in just 72 games, and he's only 24-years-old. He looks to have a promising future in Florida and could be an intriguing fantasy pick in the 2009-2010 draft.
Colton Orr, RW, Toronto Maple LeafsWednesday 7/1, 12:39 PM CT
TSN.com reports that the Maple Leafs have signed enforcer Colton Orr to a four-year, $4 million contract.

Our View: The former Ranger and Bruin has only posted 11 points in 245 career NHL games, but has amassed 549 penalty minutes, including 193 last season. He should add some toughness to the Leaf's lineup.
Dany Heatley, LW, San Jose SharksWednesday 7/1, 12:13 PM CT
According to the Edmonton Sun, Dany Heatley used his no-trade clause to veto a deal that would have landed him with the Oilers. The Senators would have received Andrew Cogliano, Ladislav Smid and Dustin Penner.

Our View: Heatley demanded a trade after his ice time was cut by coach Cory Clouston, so the Senators put together a deal to accommodate him and he puts the kebosh on it. We can't imagine the Sens would do this too many times over the course of the offseason and Heatley may have to stay unhappy and remain in Ottawa.
Erik Christensen, C, Anaheim DucksWednesday 7/1, 12:06 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the Ducks have re-signed center Erik Christensen to a one-year deal. Terms have not been disclosed.

Our View: The Ducks acquired Christensen at the trade deadline from the Thrashers, and the 25-year-old had seven goals and 21 points in 64 games with both teams. He was signed shortly before he would have become an unrestricted free agent.
Radek Dvorak, RW, Florida PanthersWednesday 7/1, 12:03 PM CT
According to TSN.com, the Panthers have re-signed forward Radek Dvorak to a two-year deal worth $3.4 million.

Our View: In 81 games last season Dvorak scored 15 goals and totaled 36 points. He's a speedy compliment player, but doesn't put up enough points to be considered a fantasy starter.
Mattias Ohlund, D, Tampa Bay LightningWednesday 7/1, 11:59 AM CT
TSN.com reports that the Tampa Bay Lightning have signed free agent defenseman Mattias Ohlund to a seven-year, $24.5 million contract.

Our View: The 32-year-old Swede racked up six goals and 25 points in 82 games last season and totaled 105 penalty minutes. He is Vancouver's all-time points leader for defenseman, but now he'll ply his trade in Tampa Bay. The Lightning likely snagged him to help the development of first-round pick Victor Hedman.
Daniel Sedin, LW, Vancouver CanucksWednesday 7/1, 11:54 AM CT
According to TSN.com, the Canucks have locked up brothers Henrik and Daniel Sedin to twin five-year $6.1 million contracts.

Our View: The Canucks get to keep their two top offensive performers and the brothers get to stay together for another five years. Both players recorded 82 points in 82 games last season.
Henrik Sedin, C, Vancouver CanucksWednesday 7/1, 11:50 AM CT
According to TSN.com, the Canucks have signed twins Daniel and Henrik Sedin to identical five-year, $6.1 million contracts that will keep them in Vancouver.

Our View: GM Mike Gillis got the deals done just before the noon deadline, and the Canucks have managed to retain their two biggest offensive threats. Both players recorded 82 points in 82 games last season.
Ladislav Smid, D, Edmonton OilersWednesday 7/1, 8:22 AM CT
According to the Edmonton Sun, the Oilers have made a qualifying offer to Ladislav Smid.

Our View: The keeps Smid from becoming an unrestricted free agent and gives Edmonton the right to match any offer he may receive as a restricted free agent.
Darren McCarty, RW, Detroit Red WingsWednesday 7/1, 8:14 AM CT
According to the Detroit News, the Red Wings will not bring back veteran winger Darren McCarty.

Our View: McCarty's comeback two seasons ago after dealing with alcohol troubles was heartwarming, but the 37 year old had just one point in 13 games last year. He may be leaning towards retirement.
Aaron Downey, RW, Phoenix CoyotesWednesday 7/1, 8:11 AM CT
Aaron Downey will not be with the Detroit Red Wings next season, according to the Detroit News.

Our View: The Wings contacted Downey's agent and let him know that Hockey Town will no longer require his services. The gritty winger will likely end up with another team.
Marian Hossa, RW, Chicago BlackhawksWednesday 7/1, 8:07 AM CT
Marian Hossa's days as a Detroit Red Wing are likely done, according to the Detroit News. The talented winger turned down a 10-year deal from the Wings and will test the free agent market.

Our View: Hossa's deal was apparently worth about $6 million per season, but last year's 40-goal scorer is looking for upwards of $7 million per. Perhaps he wants a fresh start after losing back to back Stanley Cups the last two years with the Penguins and Red Wings respectively. Regardless of where he winds up, he'll be a top line forward and a dominant fantasy player.
Aaron Gagnon, C, Dallas StarsWednesday 7/1, 8:01 AM CT
The Stars have extended a qualifying offer to center Aaron Gagnon, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: The Stars can now match any offer given to Gagnon, but the 23 year old has no fantasy value. He spent all of last season in the AHL.
Mark Fistric, D, Dallas StarsWednesday 7/1, 7:59 AM CT
The Dallas Morning News reports that the Stars have given a qualifying offer to blueliner Mark Fistric.

Our View: Fistric is a restricted free agent and this move allows the Stars to match any offer he is given. With no goals and just four points in 36 games last season, Fistric holds no fantasy value.
Jacob Dowell, C, Chicago BlackhawksWednesday 7/1, 7:55 AM CT
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the Blackhawks re-signed center Jacob Dowell to a two year deal.

Our View: Dowell spent all but one game in the AHL last season. This was likely a depth/insurance signing and Dowell doesn't look to spend much time with the NHL club unless a player higher on the depth chart is injured. He holds no fantasy value.
