NEWSBREAKERS NFL
Steve McNair, QB, Saturday 7/4, 10:39 PM CT
The mystery of the circumstances surrounding former NFL MVP Steve McNair's death grew as the day progressed Saturday. According to the Associated Press, McNair and a female companion, 20-year-old Sahel Kazemi, were both found dead Saturday afternoon around 1:30 in a Nashville condo co-owned by McNair. McNair had suffered multiple gunshot wounds, while Kazemi only had one gunshot wound to the head. Investigators have not yet stated whether they believe the incident to be a murder-suicide, or a double homicide. There are no suspects in custody at this time.

Our View: Obviously, stay tuned for more updates as this tragic story continues to unfold. McNair was one of the best quarterbacks of the past twenty years, and should be remembered as such at this time of his most untimely death.
Steve McNair, QB, Saturday 7/4, 3:48 PM CT
According to ESPN, former Titans quarterback Steve McNair was shot in the head and killed in downtown Nashville. We will keep you updated as more details on this awful tragedy emerge.

Our View: Wow. This is a tragedy in the world of football and athletics alike. McNair, a former MVP, was too young to go. He will be missed. Our condolences go out to all who were close to McNair.
Brett Favre, QB, Minnesota VikingsSaturday 7/4, 2:50 PM CT
According to the Clarion-Ledger, Dr. James Andrews told the paper in an interview that Brett Favre wants to play this season and he wants to do it with the Vikings. Dr Andrews went on to say "He wants to end his career on a high note and I hope he can. He's a tough guy, a great guy. I'm pulling for him. He wants to play. He just wants to make sure his shoulder and arm are healthy enough."

Our View: Well the signs keep pointing to a Favre return, and at this point it seems almost like a certainty. Favre would really shock the world if he didn't come back at this point, so never rule anything out with Brett.
Antonio Cromartie, CB, San Diego ChargersSaturday 7/4, 2:17 PM CT
The Chicago Tribune is reporting that Chargers' cornerback Antonio Cromartie considered sitting out the entire 2008 season after suffering a fractured hip in Week 1. Cromartie had only 2 interceptions last season after picking off 10 in 2007.

Our View: The fractured hip seems to be the biggest reason why his production fell off so much last season. He should still be considered one of the better corners in the league, and expect him to be much better in 2009 than 2008.
Jeff Garcia, QB, Philadelphia EaglesSaturday 7/4, 12:50 PM CT
According to the Chicago Tribune, new Raiders' quarterback Jeff Garcia believes he should be the starter in Oakland this season even though he is second on the depth chart to JaMarcus Russell. Garcia was quoted as saying "Not knocking JaMarcus or anybody else on the team, but I have a belief in my own abilities that has me feeling I am the best quarterback on the team. That's just how I approach the game."

Our View: Garcia has made no bones about the fact that he wants to start this season, and now he is pleading his case. The Raiders almost have to start Russell after drafting him first overall a few years ago, but if he struggles early don't be shocked to see Garcia.
