NEWSBREAKERS NBA
Quentin Richardson, G, Miami HeatWednesday 7/1, 8:03 PM CT
Only one week after being traded to Memphis, Quentin Richardson has been shipped to the Clippers in exchange for Zach Randolph, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: The Grizzlies obviously never intended to keep Richardson, and he will now be back with the team that drafted him in 2000, playing alongside the man Randolph was dealt to clear space for, Blake Griffin. Richardson clearly loses value being dealt away from Mike D'Antoni's wide open system, but could still be a decent three point specialist for your team.
Zach Randolph, F, Memphis GrizzliesWednesday 7/1, 7:58 PM CT
Zach Randolph has been traded to the Memphis Grizzlies for Quentin Richardson, according to the Los Angeles Times.

Our View: This does much more than give the Clippers Richardson - it frees up a place in the starting lineup for number one overall pick Blake Griffin. Randolph was solid for the Clippers in 2008-09 after coming over from the Knicks in a trade, averaging 20.9 points and 9.7 rebounds per game, but just didn't fit in with the team's longterm plans after getting Griffin.
Charlie Villanueva, F, Detroit PistonsWednesday 7/1, 7:53 PM CT
The Pistons have agreed to a five year deal in the neighborhood of $35 million with free agent forward Charlie Villanueva, according to TSN.ca.

Our View: This had been rumored all day, and now appears to be a done deal. Villanueva will be a part of a revamped Pistons roster that now features Ben Gordon and likely no Rasheed Wallace. Villanueva averaged a career high 16.7 points per game in 2008-09, playing in 78 games for the Bucks.
Ben Gordon, G, Detroit PistonsWednesday 7/1, 6:28 PM CT
The Detroit Pistons have signed free agent guard Ben Gordon to a five year $55 million deal, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View: Gordon was the big fish in this year's weak free agent crop, and the Pistons were dead set on getting him. It's not clear what this means for Richard Hamilton, or how the Bulls will replace him, but you can now pencil Gordon, and his 30 shots a night, into the Pistons starting lineup.
David Lee, C, New York KnicksWednesday 7/1, 1:07 PM CT
According to Yahoo! Sports, the Grizzlies are interested in restricted free agent David Lee and are prepared to offer him anywhere from $40-50 million.

Our View: A lot of teams are interested in Lee, and he's looking for a deal worth about $10 million a year for at least five years. The Grizzlies look like they're prepared to do that and the Knicks might lose Lee and not get any return on him.
Rasheed Wallace, C, Boston CelticsWednesday 7/1, 1:03 PM CT
Celtics' GM Danny Ainge and some of the front office staff visited Rasheed Wallace on Wednesday night to try and recruit the former Piston, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View: "I know he is definitely considering playing for them," one league source said. Wallace has been rumored to be leaning towards the Celtics for some time now.
Eric Maynor, G, Utah JazzWednesday 7/1, 1:00 PM CT
According to the Deseret News, the Jazz have signed 2009 first-round pick Eric Maynor.

Our View: The rookie point guard will make about $1.3 million in his first NBA season. He will participate in the Jazz's minicamp and the 2009 Orlando Pro Summer League. Next season he will back up Deron Williams.
Jason Kidd, G, Dallas MavericksWednesday 7/1, 12:50 PM CT
According to the New York Daily News, Jason Kidd met with the Knicks for three hours on Wednesday.

Our View: Looks like the Knicks are trying to pry Kidd away from Dallas. His kids live in New York and he would love to play for coach Mike D'Antoni, but Cuban and the Mavs can offer Kidd big bucks. This could also be a ploy to get more money out of Dallas.
Kobe Bryant, G, Los Angeles LakersWednesday 7/1, 12:45 PM CT
According to the LA Times, Kobe Bryant is expected to sign a three-year extension with the Lakers sometime in the next month.

Our View: Kobe had an early termination clause in his contract, but chose not to exercise it. He looks to make almost $48 million over the next two years and could then get an addition $90 million with the extension. This will undoubtedly make Kobe an even richer and happier man, and the Lakers get to keep their superstar.
Jason Kidd, G, Dallas MavericksWednesday 7/1, 10:42 AM CT
Updating a previous report, Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban said Tuesday night's meeting with free agent Jason Kidd went great, according to the Dallas Morning News.

Our View: It looks like Kidd will return to the Mavs after all. Details still have to be worked out, and he can't sign anything until July 8th, but Cuban seems optimistic that Kidd will return.
Marcin Gortat, C, Orlando MagicWednesday 7/1, 10:37 AM CT
According to ESPN.com, the Mavericks are pursuing free agent Marcin Gortat.

Our View: The Mavs are in need of a big man and seem to be very interested. The Rockets are also in hot pursuit, but with Yao Ming's injury status Gortat may want to look to Dallas. The Knicks and Pacers are also supposedly interested.
Ben Gordon, G, Detroit PistonsWednesday 7/1, 10:32 AM CT
According to Yahoo! Sports, Ben Gordon and Charlie Villanueva flew to Detroit on Wednesday to visit with Piston's President Joe Dumars.

Our View: Both are unrestricted free agents and both are reportedly close to making a deal with Detroit. With Rip Hamilton and Gordon both shooting guards, Gordon may be used as a sixth man.
Hedo Turkoglu, F, Toronto RaptorsWednesday 7/1, 10:28 AM CT
According to the Orlando Sentinel, Hedo Turkoglu was contacted by five teams on Wednesday. The Trailblazers were the first in line.

Our View: The Blazers came calling late Tuesday night when free agency opened, but of the five teams interested the Magic were not one of them. Looks like his days in Orlando are done. The other teams involved were the Pistons, Grizzlies, Raptors and Kings. He looks like he may be Blazer-bound though.
