Giambi good fit for Rays? Thursday 11/20, 10:17 AM CT
The NY Post speculated that Jason Giambi could be a good fit for the Rays, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: It would make sense for the Rays to pursue Giambi, as the Rays have two less left-handed hitters after declining Cliff Floyd's option and with Eric Hinske a free agent. Giambi blasted 32 homers in 2008 with a solid .373 OBP. Giambi has hit 11 homers over 65 games at Tropicana Field as well.
Jays not interested in Furcal Thursday 11/20, 10:11 AM CT
Jays' GM J.P. Ricciardi stated that he is not interested in free agent shortstop Rafael Furcal, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: Furcal would be a strong addition to the Jays' middle infield, but this is to be expected, as Ricciardi previously mentioned that the Jays were going to be idle in free agency, other than to try to retain hurler AJ Burnett.
Wakefield considering retirement?Thursday 11/20, 9:50 AM CT
There is a rumor circulating that Tim Wakefield may be considering retirement because his shoulder has reportedly been bothering him, according to TheBottomLine.com. This is the same injury that forced the knuckleballer to miss the 2007 postseason.

Our View: The 42-year-old recently had his 2009 option for $4 million exercised. The Red Sox are currently targeting AJ Burnett and Derek Lowe, and the club would still be in great shape with either hurler if Wakefield decides to hang up his cleats.

Pitcher Brian Duensing has been added to the Twins' roster, according to the Star Tribune. The team also added Drew Butera, Luke Hughes, Trevor Plouffe, Wilson Ramos, Deibinson Romero, Anthony Swarzak and Steve Tolleson.

Our View: Duensing was a 2008 Olympian and was added to protect him from the Rule 5 draft. Among the listed players, Duensing holds the highest profile, while catcher Ramos may have the most upside.
Cubs still interested in Peavy Thursday 11/20, 9:19 AM CT
The Cubs' talks for Jake Peavy have ended due to budget limitations, but GM Jim Hendry said he is still interested in the ace hurler, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: Peavy will make $11 million in 2009 and is owed $63 million over the remainder of his contract. The Cubs state they would need to be very creative with their finances and get another club involved to swing a deal for Peavy.
Giants could offer Sabathia $100MMThursday 11/20, 8:59 AM CT
The Giants could reportedly offer prized free agent hurler CC Sabathia a six-year deal for more than $100 million, according to the Associated Press.

Our View: Their deal is not expected to come close to the $140 million offer by the Yankees, but the Giants feel he would rather play for them rather than New York. He has West Coast ties as he was born in Vallejo, Calfornia.

Aaron Heilman does not want to be traded by the Mets, but wants to be a starting pitcher, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: The Rockies, Cardinals, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Athletics, Rays and Rangers have all shown interest in Heilman, namely the Rockies. There is speculation the Mets may deal Heilman along with a prospect to the Rockies in exchange for reliever Huston Street. Heilman would have a fair shot to compete for a spot in the Rockies' rotation.

Jeremy Hermida is on the Phillies' radar, according to the Hot Stove Blog on MLB.com.

Our View: He is being considered as a replacement for the Phillies if outfielder Pat Burrell departs as a free agent. The Cubs, Rays, and Brewers are among the other clubs also interested in acquiring his services.
Boston adds McAnulty Thursday 11/20, 7:59 AM CT
Paul McAnulty has signed a minor league deal with the Red Sox, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune. Boston's scouting director (Jason McLeod) said, "It's not often that you get to sign a guy as an amateur and a minor-league free agent. I think he fits a lot of what we look for in the American League. If he comes in and wins a major league job, I think his swing will work for our ballpark. He's going to fight for a spot on our bench – left field and maybe first base. He really wanted to come here."

Our View: He has a shot to make Boston's roster in 2009, as he does a good job of getting on base and has favorable power.
Yankees still interested in Teixeira Thursday 11/20, 7:53 AM CT
The Yankees recently signed Nick Swisher but GM Brian Cashman said he is yet to rule out any free agents, including Mark Teixeira, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View: The team is focusing on adding talent to their rotation, but is still looking to add a big run-producing bat, which could be Teixeira.
Yankees looking for CF help? Thursday 11/20, 7:47 AM CT
Melky Cabrera and Brett Gardner would be the Yankees' center fielders if the new season started right now, but manager Joe Girardi commented that the team has been discussing bringing in outside help in meetings, according to MLB.com. Girardi said, "Some of it may depend on who we sign first, and do we decide from a financial standpoint, do we bring in an outside center fielder? But we have had internal discussions about other people."

Our View: As for options, the Yankees have previously been linked to slugger Mike Cameron in talks.

Our View: Matsui is expected to be ready for the start of spring training.
Edmonds an option for Phillies? Thursday 11/20, 7:34 AM CT
38-year-old outfielder Jim Edmonds could be an option for the Phillies if Pat Burrell departs, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Our View: Edmonds can still hit for power as he blasted 20 homers over 111 games last season, 19 coming with the Cubs on 250 at-bats. He would likely be willing to sign a one-year deal, which would fare well for the Phillies. Edmonds would likely play center, Shane Victorino could go back to right field to utilize his great throwing arm, and Jayson Werth could roam in left. Edmonds is aging, but did win eight Gold Gloves over his career.
Oakland still pursuing Furcal Thursday 11/20, 7:05 AM CT
The Athletics remain in pursuit of landing Rafael Furcal, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View: The club viewed his medical reports, which show his back has fully recovered. The A's would likely be able to sign him for a favorable price and he wouldn't cost draft picks.
