MLB:
Chapman fires agent
The News
Cuban free agent pitcher Aroldis Chapman has fired his agent, according to ESPN. Our View He has fired Edwin Mejia and replaced him with the more high profile Hendricks brothers. There have been whispers that Chapman isn't worth the kind of big time money he is reported to be seeking, and this move is almost surely in response to them. Whoever is representing him, he will almost certainly find a very lucrative payday. |

Blue Jays:
Toronto: Halladay's not coming back
The News
The Blue Jays admitted on Saturday that ace pitcher Roy Halladay does not want to re-sign with the team after his contract runs up at the end of the 2010 season, according to ESPN. Our View Now that Toronto has publicly admitted the long obvious, maybe they will get going on getting something in return for him. The usuals, New York, Boston and Los Angeles, are rumored to be most interested. |

Rockies:
Contreras moving to Japan?
The News
According to Patrick Newman's NPB Tracker, former Colorado hurler Jose Contreras is considering pitching in Japan next season. Our View Apparently Contreras has contacted the Hanshin Tigers and will be visiting Japan next week. He's entering his 16-year-old son in an exchange program, but will likely reach out to some pro clubs while overseas. The 37-year-old finished last season with a 4.92 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in his 23 starts, so he likely won't be fantasy relevant even if he stays stateside. |
|
11.21
Astros:
Astros sign Valdez
The News
According to the Houston Chronicle, the Astros have signed right-hander Jose Valdez to a minor league contract and added him to the 40-man roster. Our View Valdez compiled a 3.43 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A last season, but it was the first time in his seven minor league seasons that the 26-year-old reached Triple-A. The former Yankee farmhand was added to the 40-man roster so the Astros can protect him from the Rule 5 draft, but don't count on him to make much of, if any, impact on the 2010 season. |
|
11.21
Red Sox:
Sox looking outside of Bay
The News
According to Jon Heyman on Twitter, the Red Sox are looking at other alternatives to free agent outfielder Jason Bay. Our View Bay has already turned down a four-year $60 million deal from the Red Sox and made it clear that he wants to test the free agent market, so it makes sense that Boston would explore their options. Still, don't count the Sox out of Bay sweepstakes. Along with the Angels, they are still the favorites to land him. If Bay is the first man snatched up out of the big-time free agent pool, expect Boston to increase their pursuit of Matt Holliday. |
|
11.21
Yankees:
Yanks focused on Damon
The News
According to Ken Davidoff on Twitter, the Yankees are making Johnny Damon their top free agent priority this offseason. Our View This means that Hideki Matsui and Andy Pettitte will have to take a back seat for the time being. Scott Boras is likely the reason that the Yankees are focusing their attention on Damon, and he'll also be the reason that Damon ends up raking in more than he deserves. He'll be looking for a four-year contract, but don't expect that to happen. When the dollars settle, Damon should have a two or three-year deal and the Yankees will likely be completely out of the running for Matt Holliday. |
|
11.21
Marlins:
Giants interested in Johnson?
The News
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Nick Johnson may be on the Giants wish list this offseason. Our View The Giants are a team full of free swingers, so they could certainly benefit from a patient hitter like Johnson (99 BB, .426 OBP). Manager Bruce Bochy loves him apparently, and he won't cost an arm and a leg this hot stove season like Matt Holliday, Jason Bay and John Lackey certainly will. |
|
11.21
Yankees:
Duncan becomes free agent
The News
The Yankees have outrighted first baseman Shelley Duncan from Triple-A. Our View Duncan has been outrighted twice by the Yankees now and will become a free agent. He has shown that he has plenty of pop in his bat, so expect some teams to show legitimate interest (dad, Dave, is in St. Louis), but he has struggled with consistency in his career. Wherever he winds up, he likely won't have any fantasy value. |
|
11.20
Nationals:
No surgery for Strasburg
The News
Updating a previous report, number-one overall pick Stephen Strasburg will not need surgery on his injured left knee, according to MLBlogs.com. Strasburg injured his knee shagging fly balls on Thursday. Our View This injury wasn't believed to be serious, but you never know when it has to do with the knee. Strasburg will need to rest the knee and get therapy, but there is no reason to think he won't be ready for spring training. |
|
11.20
Marlins:
Josh Johnson extension not imminent
The News
ESPN.com is reporting that the Florida Marlins and ace Josh Johnson are not close to a contract extension. Johnson's agent told ESPN that negotiatons with the team have reached an impasse. Our View Johnson will likely play under a one-year deal for next season before entering free agency in 2011. If Johnson and the Marlins can't get talks resumed, look for the team to try to trade him before the deadline next season. |
|
11.20
Blue Jays:
Jays talk to Cubs about Halladay
The News
The Blue Jays have contacted the Cubs regarding ace hurler Roy Halladay, according to MLBblogs.com. Our View Halladay is due $15.75MM in 2010, which the Cubs cannot currently handle. Toronto will also want some top prospects in return, making him unlikely to land in Chicago. |
|
11.20
Cardinals:
Holliday on Boston's radar
The News
The Red Sox are believed to be interested in Matt Holliday, according to the Boston Herald. Our View The club will reportedly consider the elite outfielder as an alternative if they do no re-sign Jason Bay. The Cardinals would also like to keep him in St. Louis. |
|
11.20
Pirates:
Diaz DFA'd by Pirates
The News
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that the Pirates have designated catcher Robinzon Diaz for assignment. Diaz played in 41 games for the team last season. Our View Diaz was in an unfortunate situation in Pittsburgh, as he was behind Ryan Doumit and Jason Jaramillo on the depth chart, and out of minor league options. He filled in admirably while both catchers were down last season, as he hit .279 with 19 RBI in 129 at-bats. |
|
11.20
Red Sox:
Boston claims R. Manuel
The News
The Red Sox have claimed pitcher Robert Manuel off waivers from the Mariners, according to the Boston Globe. Our View Manuel did not allow any runs over 4.1 innings of relief with the Reds in 2009, and had one walk and two strikeouts. The Red Sox have a well-stocked bullpen, but the 26-year-old right-hander should be given a shot to compete for a job in spring training. |
|
11.20
Pirates:
Karstens designated for assignment
The News
The Pittsburgh Pirates have designated pitcher Jeff Karstens for assignment, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Karstens was 4-6 with a 5.42 ERA in 39 appearances (13 starts) last season. Our View It looks like Karstens isn't in the future plans for the Pirates next season, which is a bit of a surprise. He is out of minor league options, which could have been a major reason why this move was made, but he will be in someone's plans next year. |
|
11.20
Pirates:
Jakubauskas claimed by Pirates
The News
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that the Pirates have claimed right-handed pitcher Chris Jakubauskas from the Mariners. Jakubauskas was 6-7 with a 5.32 ERA in 35 appearances for Seattle last season. Our View Jakubauskas struggled through injuries for much of last season, and he wasn't great when he did get on the mound. He made eight starts, so he could work out of the rotation or bullpen for the Pirates next season. |
|
11.20
Rockies:
Rox keep Paul Phillips
The News
Catcher Paul Phillips has signed a one-year contract to stay with the Rockies, according to the Denver Post. Our View It's a minor league contract that will pay him $450,000 if he's added to the major league roster. Chris Iannetta will be the Rockies starter in 2010. |
|
11.20
Reds:
Nix a free agent
The News
Laynce Nix has refused to be out-righted to Triple-A, and is now a free agent, according to Mark Sheldon of MLB.com. Our View Nix showed some decent power for the Reds last season, clubbing 15 home runs in 309 at-bats. Despite a lifetime .236 average, he should find a place on someone's bench for 2010. |
|
11.20
Orioles:
O's claim Tatum
The News
Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports that catcher Craig Tatum has been claimed off waivers by the Baltimore Orioles. Our View He had been a Red. Tatum hit .162 in 68 at-bats for Cincinnati last season. He could serve as Baltimore's back-up behind Matt Wieters in 2010. |
|
11.20
Royals:
Royals sign Campillo
The News
Jorge Campillo has signed a minor league contract with the Kansas City Royals, according to MLB.com. Our View Along with Brad Thompson, the Royals have now snagged the free agent market's two biggest prizes. Campillo has a lifetime 4.23 ERA in 180.2 innings. |
|
11.20
Rangers:
Vizquel nearing deal with White Sox
The News
Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal reports that the Chicago White Sox are close to signing Omar Vizquel to a one-year deal to be a reserve shortstop. Our View Well, the White Sox certainly don't need to get any older, but even at age 42, you won't find a better defensive sub at short than Vizquel. |
|
11.20
Tigers:
M's eyeing Edwin Jackson
The News
The Mariners remain interested in acquiring Tigers' starting pitcher Edwin Jackson, according to Jon Heyman of Sports Illustrated. Our View Jackson is due a raise from his $2.3 million 2009 salary, and the Tigers don't seem willing to pay it. With the Mariners more competitive than expected in 2009, they could be going for it in 2010. Pitching in Seattle's very spacious Safeco Park, much like Detroit's Comerica Park, Jackson could have another big season were he to be shipped to the Northwest. |
|
11.20
Cubs:
Bradley part of three-team deal?
The News
The Chicago Tribune's Phil Rogers is reporting that the Cubs are involved in a potential three-team deal with Texas and the Mets that would send Milton Bradley to the Rangers. Our View The supposed deal would send Texas' Kevin Millwood to the Mets, and New York's Luis Castillo to the Cubs. For the moment, it doesn't sound like anything beyond just preliminary talks. |
|
11.20
Red Sox:
Angels interested in Bay
The News
The Angels appear to be interested in free agent outfielder Jason Bay, according to the Los Angeles Times. Our View Angels owner Arte Moreno has said he likes Bay's "great bat and great makeup." With Vladimir Guerrero likely not coming back, he would be a great fit in Anaheim's stacked lineup. |
|
11.20
Brewers:
Brews want to lock-up Fielder
The News
Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman is reporting that the Brewers intend to lock-up superstar first baseman Prince Fielder this offseason. Our View Prince had another monster year in 2009, bashing 46 home runs to go along with a major league leading 141 RBI. While the Brewers are small market, they drew over three million fans in 2009, and are believed to have the cash to keep Fielder in Wisconsin for a long time. |
|
11.21
Broncos:
Orton still not ready
The News
Kyle Orton's ankle has still not healed to the point where he would be able to start against the Chargers on Sunday, according to the Denver Post. Our View At this point, word on his injury could either be gamesmanship or a motivational ploy for the Broncos. He's a true game-time decision, and you will likely have to wait until around an hour before kickoff to know his status. |
|
11.21
Texans:
Jacoby Jones questionable
The News
After sitting out the past two days, Jacoby Jones (calf) practiced in a limited fashion on Saturday, according to the team. He is questionable for Monday. Our View Jones is expected to take on a larger role in the Texans' offense with Owen Daniels out for the season, and if he is deemed ready for Monday night, he could be productive against a very shaky Tennessee secondary. |
|
11.21
Texans:
TE Casey ready to go
The News
James Casey (knee) practiced in full for the third straight day on Saturday, and will be active when the Texans take on the Titans on Monday night, according to the team. Our View Casey is the man most expected to fill the large shoes of Owen Daniels. He's not yet a fantasy option, but a good game Monday night would make him one. |
|
11.21
Texans:
Safety Barber doubtful
The News
Dominique Barber (ankle) did not practice for the third straight day on Saturday, and is officially doubtful for Monday night against the Titans, according to the team. Our View It would be the second straight game Barber has missed if he is out. His absence would limit Houston's reserve options at safety, but shouldn't have too large of an effect on their team defense. |
|
11.21
Texans:
Andre Johnson wants to stay in Houston
The News
Andre Johnson has denied a report that said he would force a trade from Houston were the Texans not to quality for the playoffs this season, according to Houston Chronicle. Our View The Texans have never reached the playoffs since their 2002 inception, but with a core of Johnson, Matt Schaub and Mario Williams, once would have to imagine they will sooner rather than later. |
|
11.21
Jaguars:
Jags sign McQuistan
The News
Michael C. Wright reports via Twitter that the Jaguars have signed offensive lineman Paul Mcquistan. Our View McQuistan was waived by the Raiders on November 9th, and will attempt to provide depth at guard and tackle for the Jags. |
|
11.21
Jaguars:
Jags release Russell
The News
According to Michael C. Wright on Twitter, the Jaguars have released safety Brian Russell. Our View Russell was signed in early September, but never managed to make an impact with the Jags. He was signed for depth/insurance purposes, but they never even used him to fill that role. He won't be missed. |
|
11.21
Titans:
Gage ruled out of Week 11
The News
According to the Associated Press, Titans wideout Justin Gage has been officially ruled inactive for Monday's game with a back injury. Our View Gage has been out since November 8th with broken bones in his back, and will be replaced in the starting lineup once again by rookie Kenny Britt. Don't count on him for fantasy production though, as he caught just two passes all game in Week 10. |
|
11.21
Texans:
Slaton named Week 11 starter
The News
According to Nick Scurfield on Twitter, Steve Slaton has been named the Texans starting running back for Week 11. Our View So it appears that Slaton got his job back before he ended up having to prove himself. He'll still likely split carries with Ryan Moats and Chris Brown, but it looks as if he has the most upside this week. Still, Moats isn't a bad handcuff play because if Slaton fumbles again, you can bet he'll be sitting the rest of the game. |
|
11.21
Browns:
Harrison slips on depth chart
The News
According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, running back Jerome Harrison received no carries against the Ravens on Monday night and has likely been passed on the depth chart by Chris Jennings. Our View Harrison obviously isn't happy with the situation, and neither are fantasy owners who were expecting him to produce at least on some level in a split back format. After looking like a promising back while Jamal Lewis was out, Harrison has been all but phased out of the Browns "offense" and should be dropped in all formats. |
|
11.21
Ravens:
Heap likely out for Week 11
The News
Updating a previous report, the Carroll County Times does not believe that tight end Todd Heap (ribs) will play in Sunday's game. Our View Heap was originally expected to start, but the injury kept him out of practice all week. He'll be a game-time decision, but expect L.J. Smith to play in his place. MRI's proved that the ribs are not fractured, so he could be able to play next week, assuming he returns to practice. |
|
11.21
Patriots:
Banta-Cain questionable
The News
The Boston Globe reports that Tully Banta-Cain is listed as questionable for Sunday's game with a rib injury. Our View Banta-Cain is the Patriots best edge pass rusher, but he got banged up in last week's game when he was blindsided on special teams. Consider him a game-time decision. |
|
11.21
Patriots:
Edelman expected to play Week 11
The News
According to the Boston Globe, Julian Edelman is expected to play in Week 11 but will wear a partial cast on his injured forearm. Our View Edelman missed two games due to the injury, but returned last week when he got the cast. It's a carbon-fiber shield that he can take on and off, and protects him enough so that he can fulfill his WR3 duties in the Pats offense. |
|
11.21
Raiders:
Ellis may play Week 11
The News
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Greg Ellis (knee, shoulder) may be able to play on Sunday against the Bengals. Our View Ellis underwent minor surgeries on both the knee and the shoulder, but only missed one game as a result. He's improving quickly and will apparently play if his "knee and shoulder are feeling up to it". |
|
11.21
Raiders:
Brown may be done for the year
The News
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Ricky Brown is unlikely to play for the rest of the season due to his ankle injury. Our View Brown's no longer wearing his cast, but he still can't practice in full. The Raiders may be forced to place him on injured reserve so they can free up a roster spot. |
|
11.21
Panthers:
Johnson injures knee in Week 11
The News
According to the Rock Hill Herald, linebacker Landon Johnson injured his knee in the fourth quarter of Thursday's game. Our View The injury has been diagnosed as a sprain, and the good news is that coach John Fox has stated that it won't require surgery. No word on if he'll be active next week, but the Panthers front seven can ill afford to lose another man. |
|
11.21
Saints:
Ellis out for Week 11
The News
The Associated Press reports that Sedrick Ellis did not travel with the Saints for their matchup against the Bucs and has been ruled out for Week 11. Our View Ellis has been dealing with a knee injury and hasn't played since Week 7, so it's no surprise that he didn't make the trip with the rest of the team. He's expected to return to practice next week, so he may be able to play in Week 12. |
|
11.21
Saints:
Bush out for Week 11
The News
The Associated Press reports that a source close to the team confirmed that Reggie Bush (knee) did not travel with the Saints to Tampa for Sunday's game. Our View Looks like Bush is officially out for Week 11. He is expected to return to practice next week and will most likely be active for Week 12, but there was no reason to push him on Sunday. With Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell capable of handling the backfield duties, Bush getting extra rest just made sense. |
|
11.21
Cowboys:
Ball to start at free safety in Week 11
The News
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Alan Ball is slated to make his first NFL start at free safety on Sunday. Our View Starter Ken Hamlin is out 2-4 weeks with a high ankle sprain, so Ball will switch positions. He was previously a cornerback for the last two season, but has played mostly special teams this year. |
|
11.21
Lions:
Loper to start at RG
The News
According to the Detroit News, Daniel Loper will start at right guard in Week 11. Our View Loper gets the call with Stephen Peterman landing on the IR Friday, cutting his season short. Loper was previously the starting left guard, but lost his job to Jon Jansen, so the Lions will have to make due with him at right guard. |
|
11.21
Chiefs:
Studebaker to make first NFL start
The News
The Kansas City Star reports that Andy Studebaker will make his first career start in Week 11 against the Steelers. Our View Mike Vrabel has been officially ruled out, so the Chiefs needed someone to step up. Studebaker was signed off the practice squad on Wednesday and the former Eagles sixth-round pick will have a tough task in front of him on Sunday. |
|
11.21
Eagles:
Maclin to return kicks
The News
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Jeremy Maclin will likely handle kick return duties again this week. Our View With usual kick returner Quintin Demps out with injury Maclin will get the nod again this week, but it may not be the smartest play for the Eagles. The rookie wide receiver is more important to the team in his every-down role, and risks injury returning kicks. He took a couple of hard hits last week, so beware of him being banged up, but on the flip side, enjoy the added fantasy bonus of return yards. |
|
11.21
Redskins:
Haynesworth expected to play
The News
According to ESPN.com, Albert Haynesworth will play in Sunday's contest against the rival Cowboys. Our View Haynesworth is dealing with an ankle injury, and although he holds a questionable tag right now, the coaching staff had deemed him ready to go. One expects that the menacing defender is doing everything he can do to get into this game so he can stick it to his former team. |
|
11.21
Browns:
Cribbs expected to play Week 11
The News
Scout.com reports that although return man Josh Cribbs (neck) is officially listed as questionable, he is expected to play on Sunday. Our View Cribbs was carted off the field during Monday night's game and has been limited in practice all week, but all tests on his neck and head came back negative so the Browns will likely let him play. He's a decent flex start in fantasy leagues because of his return yardage, but the Browns still need to get him more involved in the receiving game for him to pay big dividends in your lineup. |
|
11.21
Ravens:
Ngata claims he'll play in Week 11
The News
The Baltimore Sun reports that defensive end Haloti Ngata claims he will play against the Colts on Sunday despite his ankle injury. Our View We'll wait to hear from the coaching staff instead of trusting the words out of the horse's mouth, but Ngata seems confident he'll get on the field. Assuming he does play, the run-stuffing defender will give Joseph Addai plenty of problems. |
|
11.21
Wizards:
Miller's injury could be severe
The News
Mike Miller could be out 4-to-5 weeks after "popping" his calf on Saturday night, according to Michael Lee of the Washington Post. Our View He is set to undergo an MRI on Sunday. It would be a big blow to a Wizards team that was finally starting to get healthy after a nightmarish start to the 2009-10 season. |
|
11.21
Trail Blazers:
Przybilla posts double-double off the bench
The News
Joel Przybilla had a nice night off the bench on Saturday, scoring 14 points and grabbing 11 rebounds in Portland's 106-78 drubbing of the Timberwolves. Our View The 14 points were a season high. Przybilla has no fantasy value at this juncture. |
|
11.21
Timberwolves:
Pecherov has big night off the bench
The News
Oleksiy Pecherov scored 12 points and grabbed ten rebounds off the bench for the Timberwolves on Saturday night. His double-double came in a 106-78 loss to the Trail Blazers. Our View Pecherov has been impressive in limited playing time this season, and should continue to see more minutes until Kevin Love returns to the fold. |
|
11.21
Timberwolves:
Jefferson's 20 and ten not nearly enough
The News
Al Jefferson scored 20 points and grabbed ten rebounds on an otherwise forgettable night for Minnesota on Saturday. The T-Wolves were pounded into submission 106-78 by the Trail Blazers. Our View It was his second straight 20 and ten performance. After injury woes early in the season, he appears to be rounding into form. |
|
11.21
Trail Blazers:
Webster has big night
The News
Martell Webster scored 21 points and grabbed 13 points on Saturday, as Portland laid a smackdown on the Timberwolves, winning 106-78. Our View Both totals were season-highs - and likely flukes. Don't go rushing out to add Webster. |
|
11.21
Jazz:

|
11.21
Pistons:
Wallace leads Pistons defensively in loss
The News
The resurgent Ben Wallace had eight points, nine rebounds and a steal in Detroit's 100-97 overtime loss to the Jazz on Saturday. Our View Amazingly, the eight points were just one off of his season high. He will provide you with absolutely no offense, but is worth an own in most leagues because of his still sterling defense. |
|
11.21
Pistons:
Gordon scores 25 in OT loss
The News
Ben Gordon scored a game high 25 points on Saturday, but in defeat, as Detroit lost 100-97 to the Jazz in overtime. Our View Gordon has been exactly what Detroit thought he would be when they signed him - a scoring machine. He remains as valuable as ever in the Motor City. |
|
11.21
Nuggets:
Martin has big defensive night
The News
Kenyon Martin was a force on defense on Saturday night, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking four shots in Denver's 112-93 victory against the Bulls. Our View Martin is no longer much of a scorer, but is a great defensive option at forward for your bench. |
|
11.21
Bulls:
Deng, Bulls lose to Nuggets
The News
Luol Deng scored a quiet 22 points on Saturday night, as Chicago got blown out by the Nuggets, 112-93. Our View It was his first 20-point effort since November 10. |
|
11.21
Bulls:
Rose sloppy in Bulls loss
The News
Derrick Rose scored 28 points on Saturday night, but also turned the ball over five times in Chicago's 112-93 blowout loss to the Nuggets. Our View Rose is still not an overly polished player, but is getting there, and a top-tier option at point guard in most formats. |
|
11.21
Nuggets:
Anthony leads Denver past Bulls
The News
Carmelo Anthony scored 30 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, as Denver routed the Bulls 112-93 on Saturday. Our View Carmelo continues to post huge stat lines, and should be an early mainstay in MVP discussions. |
|
11.21
Kings:
Casspi has solid night off the bench
The News
Omri Casspi contributed 17 points and eight rebounds off the Kings bench in a 113-106 loss to the Rockets on Saturday night. Our View The 2009 first rounder is not yet a fantasy option, but could be by the new year. |
|
11.21
Rockets:
Ariza leads Rockets past Kings
The News

|
11.21
Kings:
Hawes has big night in Kings loss
The News
Spencer Hawes had 24 points and nine rebounds on Saturday night, but couldn't get the Kings past the Rockets, as Houston won 113-106. Our View Hawes is a great option as a reserve forward/center. |
|

Rockets:
Scola, Rockets edge Kings
The News
Luis Scola scored 22 points and grabbed 12 rebounds on Saturday, leading the Rockets past the Kings 113-106. Our View It was his third straight double-double. While not an elite fantasy option, he is an above average one. |
|
11.21
Wizards:
Jamison has solid night in defeat
The News
Antawn Jamison had 15 points and seven rebounds on Saturday in Washington's 106-84 loss to the Spurs. Our View This was the kind of loss that wasn't supposed to happen for Washington once Jamison returned to the lineup. It could be another long season in the District. |
|
11.21

The News
Journeyman center Theo Ratliff had a nice night off the bench for the Spurs on Saturday, grabbing 11 rebounds and blocking three shots in San Antonio's victory over the Wizards. Our View Ratliff has no fantasy value, but it's nice to see him have a good game off the pine. |
|

|

Marc Gasol has another solid night
The News
