Newsbreakers
November 21, 2009
Tomas Vokoun turned away 32-of-34 shots on Saturday, as Florida edged the Rangers 3-2.

Our View:The win was his fourth in his past five starts, and the elite goaltender is finally starting to get things going this season.
November 16, 2009
Tomas Vokoun only stopped 31-of-34 shots in tonight's 4-3 shootout loss to the Kings at the BankAtlantic Center.

Our View:Vokoun has allowed three or more goals in three of his last four outings. Hopefully he will get back on track soon for fantasy owners.
November 12, 2009
Tomas Vokoun was an impenetrable force on Thursday as the Panthers beat the Bruins in a shootout. Vokoun stopped all 40 shots he faced in the win.

Our View:Vokoun stopped all four shootout attempts as well tonight, and he was the only reason the Panthers came out of this game with two points. He has now posted shutouts in three of his last four starts, so he has rebounded after a bit of a slow start.
November 4, 2009
Tomas Vokoun rejected all 32 shots fired in his direction in tonight's 3-0 win over Carolina at the BankAtlantic Center. He was named the First Star of the game.

Our View:The 33-year-old netminder is in the zone, as he earned a shutout in each of his last two outings. He trimmed his goals-against average to 2.97 as well, and hopefully he can stay on track for fantasy owners following a poor start to the season.
November 4, 2009
The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports that Tomas Vokoun will get the start against the Hurricanes on Wednesday.

Our View:Vokoun is coming off a shutout win over the Blues and carries plenty of confidence into Wednesday's matchup. He will likely start in Friday's game as well, but will give way to backup Scott Clemmensen on Saturday. As always, Vokoun is a great fantasy play, but his matchup against the Canes on Wednesday is much more favorable than Friday's where he will face a potent Washington offense.
October 31, 2009
Tomas Vokoun stopped all 34 shots he faced on Saturday night, leading the Panthers to a 4-0 win over the Blues.

Our View:The win was just his second of the season, and the first time in ten games he had allowed fewer than two goals.
October 28, 2009
Tomas Vokoun only turned away 25-of-29 shots in tonight's 4-3 loss to the Senators at the BankAtlantic Center.

Our View:Vokoun is now winless over his last eight outings, and allowed three or more goals seven times over the span.
October 23, 2009
Tomas Vokoun made 41 saves in tonight's 3-2 shootout loss at Pittsburgh.

Our View:Vokoun had a solid outing, but remains winless over his last six starts. He only has one win so far this season, and carries a disappointing 3.39 goals-against average.
October 9, 2009
Tomas Vokoun allowed five goals on just 26 shots before being yanked in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Hurricanes.

Our View:Vokoun is now 1-2 on the young season and has allowed 12 goals in just three games. He was an elite goaltender last season with a 2.49 GAA and .926 save percentage, but is off to a rough start this year.
October 3, 2009
Tomas Vokoun took the loss again on Saturday, stopping just 29-of-33 shots, as Florida lost 4-0 to the Blackhawks in Sweden.

Our View:He was probably worn out after facing 55 shots on Friday. Despite his slow start, he will again be one of the NHL's top goaltenders in 2009-10.
October 2, 2009
Tomas Vokoun was a busy man on Friday, and he came through as the Panthers defeated the Blackhawks 4-3 in a shootout. Vokoun stopped 52 of the 55 shots he faced in the win.

Our View:Vokoun was the biggest reason why the Panthers won today, as he was outstanding despite facing 55 shots. He also managed to stop all but one shot in the shootout. Vokoun is a very solid goaltender, but he sometimes gets overlooked in the fantasy game because he plays with the Panthers.
September 20, 2009
Tomas Vokoun stopped only 31 of 36 shots on Sunday night as the Panthers dropped the preseason game to the Flames by a score of 5-2.

Our View:Vokoun wasn't at his best tonight, but lucky for him it was only the preseason. He should be much better when the regular season starts, but it seems likely that his win total will suffer due to the team's lack of firepower.
April 7, 2009
Tomas Vokoun turned aside 28 of the 30 shots he faced on Tuesday, but the Panthers fell 2-1 to the Flyers at Wachovia Center.

Our View:Vokoun has been stellar for much of the season, but it must be frustrating for him that he hasn't won back-to-back starts since the end of February/beginning of March. He's allowed more than three goals in a game only twice since then, but the Florida has scored more than four just once in that span.
April 5, 2009
Tomas Vokoun stopped 41 of 43 Pittsburgh shots and led the Panthers to a solid 4-2 victory on Sunday. The win was Voukoun's 24th.

Our View:Vokoun's win total leaves a little to be desired, but his save percentage (.925) and GAA (2.49) are top notch. Keep him in your lineup down the stretch.
April 5, 2009
Tomas Vokoun will get the start Sunday against Pittsburgh, according to the Fort Lauderdale Sun Sentinel.

Our View:"We've got four games left and this is [Vokoun's] opportunity to grab it and run with it," head coach Pete DeBoer said. Vokoun's .925 save percentage is second in the NHL behind only Boston's Tim Thomas, so start Vokoun with confidence today.
March 25, 2009
Tomas Vokoun made 40 saves on Wednesday night, but allowed four shots to get past him as the Panthers lost 5-3 to the Sabres. He was tagged with the loss.

Our View:Despite fantastic numbers this season, Vokoun has been a hard luck netminder. He was ripped by the Sabres Wednesday, but still has All Star caliber numbers that have only translated to 23 wins this season.
March 23, 2009
Tomas Vokoun made 28 saves in Florida's 3-2 overtime loss at home on Monday against Carolina.

Our View:Poor Tomas. Vokoun has been nothing but a hard-luck loser lately. He's lost six of his past seven starts despite having not surrendered more than three goals in any game.
March 21, 2009
Tomas Vokoun had 34 saves Saturday night, but was stuck with the loss as he allowed two shots to sneak past him.

Our View:This was a great effort for Vokoun. He didn't get the win, but was solid and added to his already impressive numbers this season. He's still a top option for fantasy goalies.
March 19, 2009
Tomas Vokoun stopped 37 of 38 Maple Leaf shots on Thursday as Florida won 3-1.

Our View:Vokoun was 0-2-2 in his last four games, so this was a much needed win for him. The 37 saves were his most since stopping 50 against the Penguins on March 10.
March 12, 2009
Tomas Vokoun was not sharp on Thursday, stopping just 20 of the 23 shots he faced in the loss to Buffalo.

Our View:He has been rock solid this year but we not helpful on Thursday. You should feel safe putting him back in your lineup but watch to see how he rebounds.
March 10, 2009
Goaltender Tomas Vokoun was brilliant in Pittsburgh on Tuesday, making 47 saves in a 4-3 shootout loss to the Penguins.

Our View:Vokoun nearly tied a season-high in saves against Pittsburgh. He made 49 saves against Tampa Bay in a 4-3 win on Nov. 18. Vokoun has now made 40 or more stops in a game six times this season and is 5-1 in such instances.
March 5, 2009
Tomas Vokoun was brave on Thursday, as he was attacked with an onslaught of 47 Pittsburgh shots. He allowed four goals, but his save percentage for the night was a very respectable 91.489.

Our View:Vokoun had won three of his previous four starts, two of which were shutouts. He should remain in your fantasy lineups as long as the Panthers don't start averaging 40+ shots allowed.
March 1, 2009
Goaltender Tomas Vokoun (inner ear infection) will not play Sunday against the Capitals, according to the Orlando Sun-Sentinel.

Our View:Craig Anderson will instead get the start for the Panthers.
February 26, 2009
Tomas Vokoun will be a game-time decision with an inner ear infection, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Craig Anderson would start in goal for the Panthers if Vokoun can't go. Vokoun has been on fire of late, winning five of his last seven starts with three shutouts.
February 24, 2009
The Panthers will start Tomas Vokoun between the pipes on Tuesday against the Bruins, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.

Our View:Vokoun, who has been battling the flu, is on fire right now. He's won five of his last seven starts, and has three shutouts during that time. He was named the second star of the week for the NHL last week.
February 21, 2009
Tomas Vokoun made 41 saves and recorded his sixth shutout of the season as the Panthers defeated the Bruins 2-0 on Saturday.

Our View:Vokoun has outperformed the rest of his teammates this season. He is stopping nearly 93 percent of the shots on goal, but he is just 20-17-3 on the season.
February 19, 2009
Tomas Vokoun played solidly in a losing effort Thursday, stopping 38 of the 41 shots he faced in a 4-0 loss to the Blackhawks. Chicago tacked on an empty net goal late in the third period to seal the win.

Our View:Vokoun has allowed three or fewer goals in each of his last five starts and 15 of his last 16.
February 17, 2009
Tomas Vokoun stopped all 36 shots he faced in a 4-0 win over the Devils on Tuesday.

Our View:Vokoun has been red hot of late, winning four of his last five games. He has a 2.52 GAA and a save percentage of .923 this season.
February 13, 2009
Tomas Vokoun recorded his second consecutive brilliant performance Friday night. He turned aside 34 of the 35 Ranger shots he faced in a 2-1 shootout win.

Our View:In his last six wins, Vokoun has surrendered only 10 goals, which is eight less than what he has allowed in his last six defeats.
February 12, 2009
Florida netminder Tomas Vokoun recorded his fourth shutout of the season Thursday night, making 42 saves in a 5-0 win over Carolina.

Our View:Vokoun is now 3-1-1 in five games against Carolina this season with a 2.75 GAA. Six of those goals came in a season-opening 6-4 loss to the Canes.
February 7, 2009
Tomas Vokoun stopped 36 of 38 shots, but Florida fell 3-1 to Washington on Saturday.

Our View:Vokoun is a fine goaltender, but he doesn't have much support in front of him. His numbers are average, but his 15-14-3 record leaves a little to be desired.
February 5, 2009
Tomas Vokoun needed only 20 saves Thursday night to record his 15th victory of the season as the Panthers sneaked by the Islanders 3-2.

Our View:Vokoun is now 2-2 versus the Islanders this season. Of all the teams in the Eastern Conference, Vokoun's most wins (and losses) have come against New York.
February 5, 2009
Tomas Vokoun is expected to return to action in the crease tonight against the Islanders following his bout with an illness, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Vokoun has only won two of his last five starts, but is worth fantasy consideration against the cellar-dwelling Islanders (16-29-5).
February 2, 2009
Tomas Vokoun will make his 32nd start between the pipes Tuesday at Toronto, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Vokoun has only won two of his last five starts, but is 4-1-2 over his career against Toronto, with a 1.84 goals-against average. He is worth employing in fantasy lineups for tomorrow.
January 31, 2009
Goaltender Tomas Vokoun did all he could in Florida's 3-1 road loss to the New York Islanders Saturday night as he stopped 27 of 30 shots.

Our View:Despite his .500 record (14-14-3), Vokoun has been reliable this season, allowing three or fewer goals in a game 22 times.
January 19, 2009
Tomas Vokoun is set for his 27th start between the pipes tonight at home against the Sabres, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Vokoun has recorded a win in four of his last five outings this season, and holds a 1.97 goals-against average over eight career starts against Buffalo. He should be in fantasy lineups for tonight.
January 17, 2009
Florida netminder Tomas Vokoun needed only 22 saves to record his 12th win of the season as the Panthers beat the Lightning 4-3 Saturday.

Our View:Vokoun finally reached the .500 mark for the first time since Oct. 24, when he notched a victory against San Jose to pull to 4-4 on the season.
January 16, 2009
Tomas Vokoun has been slated for his 26th start in goal tonight at home against the Flyers, according to the Sun Sentinel.

Our View:Vokoun will be aiming his fourth straight win, but it won't come easy as he holds a 3-4-2 career record against Philadelphia.
January 10, 2009
Tomas Vokoun stopped 28-of-32 shots and picked up his third straight win on Saturday. The Panthers beat the Thrashers 8-4.

Our View:You better pick up a win when your team scores eight times. Vokoun is on a good streak right now and may be able to eventually push clearly ahead of Craig Anderson.
January 10, 2009
Tomas Vokoun will make a third straight start when the Panthers face the Thrashers on Saturday afternoon, the Miami Herald confirms. He has won two straight starts and stopped 55 of 59 shots in those contests.

Our View:Vokoun and Craig Anderson have been juggling the starting spot all season. We're hoping that one guy can eventually grab the top spot, and Vokoun may be able to do that if he stays hot.
January 8, 2009
Tomas Vokoun will start in net for the Panthers on Thursday night when they take on the Hurricanes, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:The goalie carousel continues in Florida as the team searches for some consistency in net as Vokoun and Craig Anderson have both struggled of late. If either gets the hot hand, they could seize the starting role.
January 6, 2009
Tomas Vokoun is slated for his 23rd start between the pipes tonight at Toronto, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:Vokoun has been inconsistent this season, but is worth a look for tonight in a favorable match-up against the Maple Leafs (16-17-6). Vokoun registered a shutout against Toronto last season.
January 1, 2009
The Miami Herald reports that the No. 1 goaltender spot for the Panthers is up for grabs between Tomas Vokoun and Craig Anderson. Vokoun started the season as the No. 1 goalie.

Our View:In three of the last four games, the Panthers have switched their goalies. Most recently, Anderson replaced Vokoun for the third period. The Panthers' goalies see a lot of shots as their opposition often over-matches their teammates. Stat-wise and record wise, Anderson is the better goalie.
