October 21, 2009 Updating a previous report, Penguins defenseman Sergei Gonchar will miss 4-6 weeks with a broken wrist, according to Our View:The defending Stanley Cup champs have been virtually unstoppable this season so far, but will have a hard time continuing that trend without Gonchar. Pittsburgh's top offensive defenseman collided awkwardly with a Blues player in the second period of Tuesday's win and injured the wrist. Aside from quarterbacking the Pens dangerous power play, Gonchar also had eight points in nine games and led the team in ice time, averaging 24 minutes and six seconds. |

October 21, 2009 According to the Our View:The team is not saying what's wrong with their star puck-moving defenseman, but some reports have him missing significant time with a broken wrist or hand. He had eight points in nine games this season from the blue line and would be a very tough commodity to replace, on both the Penguins' and fantasy rosters. Stay tuned. |

October 17, 2009 Sergei Gonchar scored a goal and assisted on another in Saturday's 4-1 win over the Lightning. Our View:The shifty offensive defenseman scored his second goal of the season and tallied his fifth assist on Saturday. He was also plus-three on the day, which will help reverse his minus-five rating that he brought into the contest. |
