Updating a previous report, hockey writer Matthew Barry is reporting on Twitter that Kings' forward Ryan Smyth will miss the next month of the season with an upper-body injury.

Our View:The injury bug continues to hit the NHL hard, and now it has taken one of the Kings' best players. Smyth came over to LA in a trade during the offseason, and they will need him to come back strong if they are going to make a playoff push.

Ryan Smyth could be on the shelf longer than anticipated, according to HockeyBuzz.com.

Our View:Smyth is dealing with an upper-body injury which could be serious. He is expected to meet with team doctors Wednesday, and could miss 4-6 weeks. Alexander Frolov will move up to the top line (at left wing) in Smyth's absence.

Ryan Smyth had a goal and two assists on Monday to lead the Kings to a 4-1 win over the Stars. The goal was Smyth's sixth of the season.

Our View:Smyth has come out smoking hot in his first season with the Kings, and he is making an impact in both the goal and assist categories. He has been an excellent fantasy player so far, and he should continue to be solid as long as he stays healthy.

Ryan Smyth lit the lamp in Wednesday's 4-2 loss at New York.

Our View:Smyth is proving to be a great offseason addition for Los Angeles, as he extended his scoring streak to six games tonight. The veteran left winger generated five goals and four assists over the span.

Ryan Smyth scored a goal in Saturday's close 2-1 win at St. Louis. He was selected as the First Star of the game.

According to TSN.com, the Colorado Avalanche have traded Ryan Smyth to the Kings for Kyle Quincey, Tom Preissing and a fifth-round pick.

Our View:The Rockies needed to free up some cap space and trading Smyth took care of that. After having a miserable 2007-08 campaign, Smyth bounced back with 26 goals and 59 points last season. He'll be a main cog in the rebuilding process in LA.
April 2, 2009
Ryan Smyth will miss the rest of the season due to a fractured right hand, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:This is a tough loss for fantasy owners, as Smyth was Colorado's leading scorer with 26 goals and 33 assists over 77 games.
March 2, 2009
Ryan Smyth scored both goals on Monday as the Avalanche fell to the Islanders 4-2. He fired off six shots in the effort.

Our View:There are not a whole lot of bright spots on the Avalanche, but Smyth is a serviceable fantasy player. He has 53 points through 64 games, and his value could increase if he is dealt prior to the deadline.
February 22, 2009
The Canadiens are reportedly interested in acquiring Ryan Smyth, according to Sun Media.

Our View:Now that Montreal has found out that Tampa's Vincent Lecavalier isn't available, Smyth might be a good option that could provide an offensive spark for the Habs. His contract isn't nearly as large as Lecavalier's, so that would be a plus for the team.
February 20, 2009
Ryan Smyth's scoring surge continued on Friday as he racked up a goal and two assists in a 4-1 win at Washington.

Our View:Smyth has four goals and three assists in his last five games, so if your league is one of the few he's still available in, grab him now.
February 11, 2009
Ryan Smyth scored both of Colorado's goals on Wednesday in a 3-2 loss at Minnesota.

Our View:Smyth is starting to heat up for the Avalanche. He has eight points in his last seven games and 11 points in his last 10, so he's certainly worth picking up if he's available in your league.
February 2, 2009
Ryan Smyth picked up two assists as the Avalanche defeated the Flames 4-3 on Monday.

Our View:Smyth can be a bit streaky and he now has four assists in his last three games. Keep an eye on him as he might be on the cusp of getting hot.
January 18, 2009
Ryan Smyth scored the 300th goal of his NHL career, a short-handed tally which also happened to be the game winner in the Avalanche's 6-2 victory over the Flames. Smyth also added two assists in the victory.

Our View:Smyth has been playing inspired hockey of late with points in six of his last seven games during a stretch in which he has scored four goals and dished out six assists off the left wing. Continue to ride him as he almost always produces when he is healthy.
January 17, 2009
Ryan Smyth failed to record a point for the first time in six games in Friday's 3-2 loss to the Oilers.

Our View:The Avs are struggling right now with injuries to top scorers Paul Stastny and Joe Sakic among others, but Smyth can't be expected to produce every night. The club will need to get scoring from other sources to remain in the playoff hunt. We're willing to be that they still have Peter Forsberg's number on speed dial.
January 13, 2009
Ryan Smyth scored his 15th goal of the season Tuesday night in the Avalanche's 4-3 loss to the Blue Jackets.

Our View:Smyth has posted a minus-3 rating in Colorado's three meetings with Columbus this season.
January 8, 2009
Ryan Smyth scored a goal and dished off an assist as the Avalanche emerged victorious on Thursday night.

Our View:Smyth seems to finally have found his game of late as he has produced 10 points in his last eight games (3g, 7a). When healthy he is one of the more productive left wingers in the game, and he is healthy right now.
