August 1, 2009 The NHL is investigating the Flyers' contract with Chris Pronger and the Blackhawks' deal with Marian Hossa to see if they circumvented the league's salary cap, the Our View:Did the NHL not see this coming? Pronger and Hossa are very unlikely to see the end of their front-loaded deals, but the team used long-term contracts in order to spread out the cap hits. This happens all the time in the NFL, and the NHL shouldn't be surprised these deals are popping up in their league. |
