Newsbreakers
October 10, 2009
Matt Hunwick led the Bruins in Saturday's 4-3 shootout win over the Islanders at the TD Banknorth Garden, as he registered a goal and an assist. He only took one shot in the game.

Our View:Hunwick is a rising star among defensemen, and scored his second goal and third point of 2009-10. He is worth targeting if dangling on the waiver wire in fantasy leagues.
July 20, 2009
The Boston Globe is reporting that the Bruins' have signed Matt Hunwick to a two-year contract extension, avoiding arbitration. Financial terms of the deal were not readily available.

Our View:Hunwick performed well in 53 games with the team last year, and you have to believe that he got a nice pay raise with this deal. He managed to notch 27 points for the Bruins in 2008-2009, but the more impressive stat is that he finished the season with a +15 rating.
July 5, 2009
As expected, Matt Hunwick has filed for salary arbitration, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The blueliner covets a pay raise after notching six goals and 21 assists over 53 games with Boston in 2008-09, while maintaining a +15 rating.
July 4, 2009
The Boston Globe expects Bruins' defenseman Matt Hunwick to file for arbitration within the next few days. He is eligible to file on Sunday, and it is expected that he will do so.

Our View:Unless the team agrees to a deal avoiding arbitration, expect Hunwick to file. He is a decent player, and he should factor in nicely to the Bruins' lineup next season. He is still a bit raw for fantasy play, however.
May 17, 2009
Matt Hunwick is likely to re-sign with the Bruins over the next 4-6 weeks, according to the Boston Globe. He is recovering from surgery to remove his spleen.

Our View:Hunwick is a solid blueliner, and held a +15 rating over 53 games in the regular season. He chipped in six goals and 21 assists. David Krejci and Phil Kessel are also eligible for free agency.

Matt Hunwick had his ruptured spleen removed on Saturday and will be out the rest of the playoffs, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Hunwick suffered the injury in the second period of Boston's game on Thursday. The 23-year-old will likely take several months to recover but should be fine in time for training camp in August.
April 18, 2009
Matt Hunwick has been hospitalized with a spleen ailment, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Hunwick started feeling sick after he arrived at the rink for a team meeting this morning. Coach Claude Julien did not think Hunwick lost consciousness. Shane Hnidy will replace Hunwick in the lineup tonight.
April 16, 2009
The Boston Globe is reporting that Matt Hunwick will be on the first power-play unit for tonight's game against Montreal. He will be joined by Dennis Wideman at the blue line, with Marc Savard, Michael Ryder, and Mark Recchi up front.

Our View:Hunwick was an impressive +15 in his 53 games this season, but the main reason for this move is to balance out the power-play units. Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara will man the blue line on the second unit.
February 25, 2009
Matt Hunwick has been recalled by the Bruins from AHL Providence, according to TSN.

Our View:Hunwick holds a solid +9 rating over 38 games with the Bruins this season, but does not score enough to be fantasy-worthy.
February 24, 2009
Bruins defenseman Matt Hunwick has been sent to the AHL to play in one game, but he will be back with Boston on Wednesday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:The team simply wanted to give Hunwick some playing time. He has solid offensive numbers, but not the type to make him fantasy-relevant.
February 7, 2009
Defenseman Matt Hunwick will get the start Saturday versus the Flyers in the absence of Aaron Ward, who is suffering from a bout with the flu bug, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:For all intents and purposes, Hunwick is far more qualified to be in the lineup than Ward, at least offensively. He has two more goals and seven more assists than Ward in two fewer games.
February 3, 2009
The Boston Globe reports defenseman Matt Hunwick will not suit up against the Flyers on Wednesday due to the flu.

Our View:Hunwick did not even travel with the team to the City of Brotherly Love. He may be back for their game on Thursday.
February 1, 2009
The Boston Globe reports that defenseman Matt Hunwick was a healthy scratch in Saturday's game.

Our View:The rookie had posted 14 points in a 13 game stretch that started back in November, but he has just one point over his last 19 contests. He could be headed back to the AHL soon.
