Newsbreakers
February 4, 2010
Steve Mason blocked 22-of-23 shots in tonight's 2-1 win over the Stars at Nationwide Arena.

Our View:The young netminder bounced back after giving up five goals in his previous start against the Kings. He is still not a stable fantasy option for his next outing between the pipes.

Steve Mason was sloppy once again on Thursday, allowing four goals on just 18 shots, as the Jackets fell 4-1 to the Kings.

Our View:Mason's frustrating season continues. He's now 13-18-6 and has lost five of the seven games he started this month. He's been losing time to backup Matthieu Garon as well.

Steve Mason turned away 29-of-31 shots in tonight's 3-2 win over the Predators at Nationwide Arena.

Our View:Mason picked up his 13th win of the season, and bounced back after giving up four goals in his previous start at Minnesota. Hopefully the young netminder can stay on the right track.

Steve Mason turned away 32-of-34 shots in tonight's 3-2 win at Boston.

Our View:Mason fared much better after giving up six goals in his previous start against Chicago. Fantasy owners cannot trust Mason to stay on the right track though.

Steve Mason was dreadful on Saturday, making just 25 saves as Columbus lost 6-5 to the Blackhawks.

Our View:Mason has now given up six goals in two of his past three starts, and is one of the worst fantasy options among starting NHL goalies.
January 5, 2010
Steve Mason was yanked on Tuesday night after allowing six goals on the first 17 shots of the game where the Blue Jackets were slaughtered by the Canucks 7-3.

Our View:Mason's struggles are well documented this season, but he had appeared to be turning the corner with a stretch of four solid games. Then he churned out this stinker. He has shutout capability, but play him with caution this year as the bad games are quickly outweighing the good ones.

According to the Columbus Dispatch, Steve Mason will get the start in net on Saturday against the Avalanche.

Our View:Mason has been very good in his last two starts, allowing just one goal overall, and may be finally crawling out of his season-long funk. Feel free to start him in fantasy leagues and see if he can ride the hot streak.
