Newsbreakers
October 16, 2009
TSN.ca is reporting that Red Wings' forward Johan Franzen underwent successful surgery to repair his torn left ACL on Friday. Franzen is expected to miss at least four months with the injury.

Our View:Everything went smoothly during the operation, so Franzen should remain on track to return in four months. Sometimes the rehab on these things doesn't always go as planned, so we will update his status throughout the season. Fantasy owners probably don't need to hang onto him, but keep him in mind as a pickup closer to his return.

Updating a previous report, NHL.com is reporting that Red Wings' forward Johan Franzen will miss at least four months with a torn ACL in his left knee. Franzen suffered the injury in Thursday night's 3-2 win over Chicago.

Our View:This is a huge blow for the Wings, especially after they lost several players to other teams in the offseason. Four months looks like the best-case scenario for Franzen, and it could very well be longer. Expect the team to recall Justin Abdelkader from the AHL to replace Franzen on the roster.

Johan Franzen missed Friday's practice and is questionable for Saturday's game against the Capitals with a possible lower-body injury, according to the Detroit News. Franzen will be examined later today and likely again tomorrow before a decision is made.

Our View:The team is saying that Franzen suffered the injury last night, but we really don't know how severe it is. We will keep you updated on his status, but losing Franzen for any significant amount of time would be bad news for the Wings.
