Slam! Sports is reporting that Canes' goalie Cam Ward has been placed on the long-term injury list by the team. Ward has already missed two weeks with a laceration on his leg.

Our View:Things couldn't be much worse for the Canes right now, as they have placed their top goaltender and top forward on the injured list in the last few hours. Ward is expected to miss significant time, so fantasy owners shouldn't plan on having his services available for the near future.
November 11, 2009
The Sports Network is reporting that the Carolina Hurricanes have placed goaltender Cam Ward on injured reserve. Ward is expected to miss three-to-four weeks after suffering a laceration on his leg.

Our View:Michael Leighton will take over as the primary netminder in Ward's absence, and he will be backed up by veteran Manny Legace. The Canes are struggling badly right now, so losing Ward is just another blow to a team that is already almost down for the count.
November 8, 2009
According to The Score, Carolina Hurricanes' goaltender Cam Ward is expected to miss four weeks with a leg laceration. Ward spent Saturday night in the hospital after suffering a cut from the skate of Blue Jackets' forward Rick Nash.

Our View:Ward was in stable condition after losing quite a bit of blood from the cut, but it looks like he will be fine. The team will be cautious with their young netminder, so don't be shocked if he misses the full four weeks.
November 8, 2009
Updating an earlier report, Cam Ward (leg laceration) spent the night in the hospital on Saturday, but is in stable condition and expected to be released on Sunday, according to NHL.com.

Our View:Ward is just 2-9-3 with a 2.97 goals against average this season, and with the Hurricanes already all but buried in the Eastern Conference, he won't be rushed back.
November 8, 2009
The injury to Cam Ward's lacerated left knee is being described by the team as "significant," according to the Raleigh News & Observer.

Our View:Michael Leighton will be the primary goaltender in Carolina until further notice.
November 7, 2009
Hurricanes' goaltender Cam Ward left in the first period of Saturday night's game after being cut by the skate of Columbus forward Rick Nash. Ward was replaced in net by Michael Leighton.

Our View:Ward was bleeding pretty badly when he left the ice, and he looked to be in plenty of pain. We will keep you updated on his injury stats when news is released.
November 4, 2009
Cam Ward stopped 22-of-24 shots in Wednesday's 3-0 loss at Florida.

Our View:Ward did not perform poorly, but was forced to take a loss as his teammates were shut down by opposing goalie Tomas Vokoun. He is now winless over his last nine starts.
November 1, 2009
Cam Ward struggled again on Sunday as the Canes fell to the Sharks by a score of 5-1. Ward stopped only 20 of the 25 shots he faced in the loss.

Our View:Cam Ward has a ton of talent, but he has been terrible in his last two starts. 23 saves on 42 shots is just awful for fantasy owners, so you want to consider sitting him until he gets back on track.
October 28, 2009
Cam Ward only stopped 13-of-17 shots in tonight's 5-2 loss to St. Louis at the RBC Center.

Our View:The normally solid netminder is now winless over his last seven starts, allowing three or more goals five times over the span.
October 28, 2009
According to the Twitter page of Canes' beat writer Chip Alexander, the team will start Cam Ward in net against the Blues on Wednesday. Ward is expected to start the team's next game against the Flyers as well before giving way to backup Michael Leighton in the team's following game.

Our View:Ward is coming off a tough night against the Avs in his last start in which he allowed five goals in his team's 5-4 loss. He will have to be much better than that tonight against the Blues, and chances are he will be.
October 23, 2009
Cam Ward only stopped 31-of-36 shots in tonight's 5-4 loss at Colorado.

Our View:Ward remains a disappointment for fantasy owners, as he is now winless over his last five starts. Tonight was his worst performance so far, and he carries a 2.76 goals-against average.
October 21, 2009
Cam Ward stopped 26-of-29 shots in tonight's 4-3 shootout loss at the Islanders.

Our View:Ward is off to a disappointing start for fantasy owners, as he is winless over his last four starts, and is 2-4-2 for the season. On the positive side, he carries a 2.47 goals-against average.
October 17, 2009
Cam Ward was very sharp on Saturday, but couldn't outduel Marty Brodeur as the Hurricanes fell to the Devils 2-0.

Our View:Ward allowed just one goal on 28 shots and deserved better than a loss next to his name. The other New Jersey tally came with an empty net. Ward is now 2-4-1 on the season, but his numbers don't reflect it.
October 14, 2009
Cam Ward turned away 36-of-38 shots in Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Penguins at the RBC Center. He was selected as the First Star of the game.

October 6, 2009
Cam Ward stopped 29-of-30 shots in tonight's 2-1 shootout win over Tampa Bay at the RBC Center.

Our View:Ward picked up his first win of the season, after taking a loss in each of his last two starts. He should remain a top-notch goalie in 2009-10 after nailing down 39 wins last year.
October 2, 2009
Cam Ward stopped 25-of-27 shots in tonight's 2-0 loss to the Flyers.

Our View:Ward did not have a bad outing, but was forced to take a loss as his teammates could not score any goals. He is coming off a solid 2008-09 campaign in which he nailed down 39 wins with a 2.44 goals-against average.
September 30, 2009
According to the Twitter page of TSN's Darren Dreger, the Carolina Hurricanes have signed goalie Cam Ward to a six-year extension. The new deal is expected to pay Ward $6.3 million a year.

Our View:Long-term moves like this can be risky,(see DiPietro, Rick) but right now this looks like a good move by the Canes. Ward is still young, and he has developed into one of the better goaltenders in the league, so the Canes didn't want to give him a chance to jump ship when his contract expired.
August 31, 2009
The Raleigh News & Observer is reporting that Canes' goalie Cam Ward returned to the ice after missing time at the Canadian Olympic orientation camp with back soreness. Ward said the pain is gone and he will be 100 percent for the season.

Our View:Ward acted like the back problem was no big deal, but he also experienced problems during the playoffs last season. Back injuries aren't good for NHL goalies, and if it is something that persists it could affect his play this season. He should be fine, be it is probably something to keep an eye on.
June 9, 2009
According to the Raleigh News & Observer, the Hurricanes plan to announce that they are extending the contracts of their current coaching staff in the next few days. Head coach Paul Maurice and company were only signed through the end of the season after taking over in early December.

Our View:Pretty easy call here. Maurice and the rest of his staff came in and turned around the Canes so much that they made it all the way to the Eastern Conference Finals. Expect Maurice to return along with Ron Francis as associate head coach, Tom Rowe and Kevin McCarthy as assistant coaches, and Tom Barrasso as goaltending coach.
May 26, 2009
Cam Ward made only 21 saves on Tuesday as the Hurricanes dropped Game 4 to the Penguins. Ward gave up 3 goals on 24 shots as the Canes were swept by the Pens.

Our View:After being stellar in the previous two rounds, Ward left much to be desired in this series. He was not the goalie fans had come to expect, and thus his team fell in only four games.
May 25, 2009
Carolina coach Paul Maurice stated that Cam Ward was feeling 100 percent on Sunday, according to the Raleigh News & Observer.

May 21, 2009
Cam Ward was peppered with 41 shots in Game Two and let a whopping six slip by him. He took the loss as the Canes fell into a deep 2-0 hole in the series with a 7-4 loss on Thursday.

Our View:Ward wasn't sharp in this one and has already been victimized nine times in two games in this series. He was stellar in the regular season and the playoffs until he ran into the Penguins merciless offense. He'll need to step up his game if the Canes are going to stand a chance.
May 18, 2009
Cam Ward took the loss on Monday as the Hurricanes fell to the Penguins 3-2. Ward stopped 28 of the 31 shots he faced, but the Hurricanes are now trailing 1-0 in the series.

Our View:Ward was actually pretty good tonight, but he did give up two goals in less than a minute and a half in the first period. The Canes will need Ward to step up in this series if they are going to beat the Pens, and tonight he just wasn't good enough.
May 14, 2009
Cam Ward was outstanding on Thursday as the Hurricanes upset the top-seeded Bruins in Game 7. Ward made 34 saves on 36 shots to help his team to the Eastern Conference Finals.

Our View:Ward is undefeated in his career in Game 7's and he showed why tonight. He made several HUGE saves late in the game and in overtime to help his team to the win. As long as he stays hot, the Cardiac Canes should provide some stiff competition for Sid and the Penguins.
May 8, 2009
The Bruins could only muster 21 shots against Cam Ward on Friday, but he turned 20 of them away and rode three third period goals for a 4-1 win. The Hurricanes now lead the series three games to one.

May 6, 2009
Cam Ward continued his strong play on Wednesday night as he stopped 21 of 23 shots in the Hurricanes OT victory over the Bruins.

Cam Ward stymied the Bruins on Sunday as he stopped all 36 shots he faced in a 3-0 series tying win.

April 26, 2009
Cam Ward was a vacuum cleaner on Sunday as he stopped all 28 shots he faced and shut out the Devils 4-0 to force a Game Seven. The first round series returns to New Jersey on Tuesday.

Our View:Ward was dominant as the Devils couldn't figure out how to get anything past him. The shutout was his first of the playoffs and his finest performance so far. He'll need a repeat on Tuesday if the Canes are going to bounce Brodeur and the Devils.
April 23, 2009
Cam Ward would up with the short end of the stick on Thursday. He stopped 41 of 42 shots, but was given the loss as the Hurricanes fell 1-0 to Marty Brodeur and the Devils.

Our View:Ward had a great season for Carolina and is emerging as one of the NHL's top goaltenders. He played well enough to win on Thursday, but his offense couldn't solve Brodeur.
April 17, 2009
Goalie Cam Ward stopped 33-of-34 shots in the Hurricanes 2-1 win over the Devils on Friday night.

Our View:Ward likely wasn't pleased with his Game 1 performance, which featured four goals by the Devils. We have little doubt he'll continue to be solid as long as the Hurricanes are alive in the playoffs.
April 4, 2009
Cam Ward stopped 33 of 35 shots in the Hurricanes 3-2 overtime win over Pittsburgh on Saturday. He did not face a shot in overtime.

Cam Ward continued his roller coaster month of February Sunday, stopping all 36 shots he saw from Buffalo for 3-0 win and his fourth shutout of the year.

February 14, 2009

January 31, 2009
Cam Ward needed to make only 19 saves for his third shutout of the season as Carolina beat Atlanta 2-0 at RBC Center on Saturday night.

Our View:Barely treading water in the Eastern Conference playoff race, the Hurricanes need Ward to sustain the brilliance he showed tonight rather than plague the team with the inconsistency that characterized Carolina's recent five-game losing streak.
