According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Thrashers goaltender Kari Lehtonen will be sidelined an additional 6-8 weeks after undergoing another back surgery.

Our View:Lehtonen still hadn't recovered from his original back surgery this offseason, and he's already had another one. This doesn't bode well for him or the Thrashers and he won't be back until the end of 2009 at the earliest. The most recent procedure was performed to correct bone edges in his back that were pressing on nerves. Now all anyone can do is sit back and wait to see if it worked.

TSN.ca is reporting that Thrashers' goalie Kari Lehtonen still doesn't hve a timetable set for his return to the team. Lehtonen has been out all season after back surgery.

Our View:The Thrashers have a good thing going right now, and they will be even better once they get ther starting goalie back. Lehtonen is a very good player, and the team is building some solid young talent around one of the best scorers in the league in Ilya Kovalchuk.

Atlanta goaltender Kari Lehtonen returned to the ice on Wednesday but is still 7-to-10 days from putting on his equipment, according to Kevin Allen of USA Today. Lehtonen is recovering from surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back.

Our View:It sounds like Lehtonen is getting close to a return, but he will miss some time early in the season. Johan Hedberg will likely see a majority of the time while Lehtonen is out, but expect Lehtonen to take over when he is healthy.

According to a report in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Thrashers' goalie Kari Lehtonen recently had surgery to repair a herniated disk in his back. Lehtonen is not expected to miss a significant amount of training camp, and he should be fine for the start of the season.

Our View:Lehtonen is scheduled to be the starting goalie in Atlanta next season, and unless there are some unforeseen complications he should be fine when the season starts. Look for Lehtonen to be ready to go on opening day and looks for him to improve on his 3.06 GAA from last season.
July 15, 2009
Kari Lehtonen has accepted his qualifying offer with the Thrashers, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Our View:Lehtonen is the Thrashers' top goalie, and the club should be pleased to have him back for the 2009-10 campaign. He was a restricted free agent.
April 11, 2009
Kari Lehtonen had a strong start when it didn't matter, stopping 33 of 35 shots and earning the win in Atlanta's 6-2 win over the Lightning on Saturday.

Our View:Lehtonen finished the season with 19 wins, 22 losses and a less than stellar GAA over 3.00. He certainly wasn't plus category fantasy material.
March 24, 2009
Kari Lehtonen got rolled for six goals on just 22 shots in Atlanta's 6-3 loss to Montreal on Tuesday.

Our View:Lehtonen had a hot streak going about two weeks ago but he has returned to his early season ways for owners. He just doesn't seem to be a solid fantasy option right now and his GAA is back over 3.0.
March 16, 2009
Kari Lehtonen stopped 49 of 50 shots that were rifled off of Capitals' sticks and the Thrashers walked away with a 5-1 victory on Monday.

Our View:Lehtonen has now won five straight games, and is one of the hotter fantasy players going. Two of his three shutouts this season have come on this current streak.
March 14, 2009
Kari Lehtonen saved all four of Buffalo's shootout attempts in Atlanta's 4-3 win on Saturday. He stopped 34 of 37 shots through the first four periods.

Our View:There was no question who the No. 1 star of the game was tonight. The goalie has now recorded four straight victories and six wins in his last eight.
March 10, 2009
Goaltender Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves Tuesday to ensure a 3-0 Atlanta win over Colorado as well as his 16th victory and third shutout of the season.

Our View:Lehotnen has won three games in a row for the first time since mid-January. Over those last two months, he had failed on five occasions to win back-to-back games.
March 6, 2009
Kari Lehtonen turned aside all 25 shots he faced Friday for his second shutout of the season and a 2-0 Thrashers win over the Canadiens.

Our View:Assuming he starts Sunday against Calgary, which is likely, Lehtonen will have the chance to win back-to-back games for the first time since he won three in a row from Jan. 16-20.
March 3, 2009
Goaltender Kari Lehtonen made 24 saves in the Thrashers' 4-3 home loss to Florida on Tuesday.

Our View:Lehtonen's .857 save percentage Tuesday was his lowest mark since he saved only 19 of 24 shots (.792) in a 5-1 loss to New Jersey on Feb. 6.
February 19, 2009
Kari Lehtonen did all he could to save the Thrashers' pathetic offense Thursday night, stopping all but three of Phoenix's 40 shots in a 4-3 shootout loss on the road. The Thrashers managed only 22 shots on offense, including just 10 in the first and third periods combined.

Our View:Lehtonen has been solid in a majority of his 30 starts this season, but because Atlanta tends to be unpredictable on offense, he has won back-to-back games only once. That came during a three-game winning streak from Jan.16-20.
February 11, 2009
Kari Lehtonen gave the Thrashers another solid outing on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough as his club fell 3-1 to Chicago. He stopped 25-of-27 shots while the Blackhawks added an empty-netter with 10 seconds remaining.

Our View:Lehtonen has minimal fantasy value due to playing for such a bad team but he has played well in his last two starts, stopping 65-of-68 shots while earning one victory.
February 10, 2009
Kari Lehtonen stopped 40 shots, including a penalty shot, in the Thrashers 3-1 win over Tampa Bay on Tuesday.

Our View:Lehtonen has not been very good this season and even with a quality performance on Tuesday it will be tough to over look what he has done this season. A 3.26 GAA and 16 losses is not going to get it done.
February 6, 2009
Kari Lehtonen had a rough night on Friday, allowing five goals on 24 shots before being pulled a little less than halfway through the second period. It was his 16th loss of the year.

Our View:Lehtonen has a goals-allowed-average well over 3.00, so it's easy to see why he's available in nearly 90 percent of fantasy leagues. He should only be an option for the most desperate fantasy owners.
February 3, 2009
Kari Lehtonen picked up his ninth win of the season by stopping 39 of the 40 shots the New York Rangers threw at him, leading the Thrashers to a 2-1 shootout win.

Our View:Lehtonen had lost three of his last four starts, and it should have been all four after he gave up four goals in less than one period on January 29. He's not a solid fantasy option, but he had a stellar game here.
January 31, 2009
Kari Lehtonen had another solid performance wasted by the punchless Atlanta offense. On Saturday, the 25-year-old goaltender made 38 saves in 2-0 road loss to Carolina.

Our View:Saturday was the eight game the Thrashers have lost when Lehtonen has allowed three or fewer goals.
January 27, 2009
Goaltender Kari Lehtonen stopped 31 of 33 shots, but he got no help from the Atlanta offense in a 2-0 loss to Dallas.

Our View:Tuesday was the seventh time this season Lehtonen has allowed two or fewer goals in a game. However, he is just 4-3 in those starts.
January 10, 2009
Kari Lehtonen was pulled late in Saturday's loss to the Panthers after allowing seven goals. He stopped only 20-of-27 shots.

Our View:Lehtinen was coming of his first shutout of the season, and this effort was the bowling equivalent of following up a strike with two balls in the gutter. He is not a good fantasy option.
January 8, 2009
Kari Lehtonen picked up his first shutout of the season by stopping all 29 shots that the Devils threw at him on Thursday night.

Our View:Finally. Kari has had a rough go of things since returning from the injured list going just 2-5 since December 20th. He has proven in the past that he can get hot and have a run of success, but he is still a questionable play on most nights given the defense that surrounds him.
January 2, 2009
Kari Lehtonen made 35 saves in Friday's 4-3 shootout win over the Canucks.

Our View:Lehtonen snapped a three-game losing streak, and won for the fourth time over 14 games. He still does not merit fantasy attention.
