Newsbreakers
November 13, 2009
Dany Heatley picked up his 12th goal of the season on Thursday as the Sharks fell to the Stars in a shootout. Heatley has 22 points in his first 20 games with San Jose.

Our View:Heater has been as good as advertised already this year, and he should continue to produce while he is surrounded by talent. Now that the offseason is behind him, he is back to being a top-notch fantasy player.
November 4, 2009
Dany Heatley blasted a goal past netminder Steve Mason in Wednesday's 3-2 shootout win at Columbus.

Our View:Heatley is proving to be a great acquisition for San Jose, as he scored a goal in five of his last eight games, and has 10 for the season.
October 31, 2009
Dany Heatley slipped a goal past netminder Craig Anderson in Friday's 3-1 win over Colorado at the HP Pavilion.

Our View:Heatley lit the lamp in three of his last four games, and has nine goals for the season. The elite winger is fitting in very well with San Jose.
October 24, 2009
Dany Heatley notched a goal and an assist on Saturday in a 4-3 win over the Thrashers.

Our View:Heatley's goal came on the power play and marked his fourth tally with the man advantage this season, and seventh goal overall. He now has 14 points in 11 games and appears to be clicking with super setup man Joe Thornton.
October 1, 2009
Dany Heatley accumulated zero points and finished with a -3 rating in his first game with the Sharks on Thursday. San Jose lost 5-2 to the Avalanche.

Our View:Heatley is going to have to be much better than this to restore his tarnished reputation, and if he struggles, San Jose could very much become a team in disarray.
September 12, 2009
TSN is reporting that the Senators have finalized a deal that will send forward Dany Heatley and a fifth-round pick to San Jose in exchange for Milan Michalek, Jonathan Cheechoo, and a second-round pick.

Our View:It looks like Heater finally got his wish. The Sharks have been the front-runner for awhile, so this doesn't come as a big surprise. Heatley is in a much better situation with the Sharks, and he should be a solid fantasy play this season.
September 12, 2009
According to the Twitter page of TSN's Darren Dreger, the Sharks and the Blackhawks are the current favorites to land Dany Heatley. No trade is imminent at this point.

Our View:It was reported that Heatley was traded to the Sharks earlier this week, and while that information was false, the Sharks still look like the front-runners. The Hawks don't seem likely to pull the trigger on Heater with the salary cap problems they are gong to have, so look for San Jose to be the final destination.
September 11, 2009
ESPN is reporting that disgruntled forward Dany Heatley has been traded to the San Jose Sharks in a three-team deal that also includes Sharks center Patrick Marleau.

Our View:Marleau is reportedly going to the Kings, while Jarret Stoll and Alexander Frolov are being shipped to Ottawa. Sharks GM Doug Wilson, Senators GM Bryan Murray and Kings GM Dean Lombardi have all denied that the deal has happened, however. Stay tuned.
August 21, 2009
SI.com is reporting that disgruntled Senators' forward Dany Heatley held a press conference on Friday to address the media for the first time since his request for a trade. Heatley reiterated that he wants out of Ottawa because he is not happy with his diminished role on the team.

Our View:Heatley didn't really tell us anything that we didn't know today. He wants out of Ottawa, he doesn't want to go to Edmonton, and there are supposedly several other teams interested. It still looks 50-50 as to whether he will be moved or not, but if he isn't it will make for an awfully awkward situation in Ottawa next season.
August 3, 2009
The Ottawa Sun is confirming that there is still interest by another team in disgruntled forward Dany Heatley. The team with interest appears to be the San Jose Sharks, but it is likely that a third team, likely Montreal, would have to get involved in order for the Sharks to clear the cap room required to bring Heatley in.

Our View:According to the report, the Sharks would like to move Jonathan Cheechoo, but the Sens have no interest in taking on his contract. It looks like the Sharks have been willing to offer Cheechoo, Christain Erhoff, and a first-round pick for Healtley, but unless San Jose can unload Cheechoo elsewhere it looks like this deal is in trouble. We will keep you updated on any news regarding the ongoing Heatley saga.
August 2, 2009
Dany Heatley remains in San Jose's radar as a possible trade target, according to the Ottawa Sun.

Our View:It's unknown yet exactly who the Sharks would deal in return, whether they'd be able and willing to take on his salary, and if a third team could be involved, so stay tuned.
July 31, 2009
The Oilers are no longer pursuing Dany Heatley, according to TSN. Edmonton GM Steve Tambellini said, "We gave ourselves an allotted amount of time internally ... to explore every opportunity to see if there was something that would work -- it did not. It is time for us to move on. We are very comfortable with that."

Our View:There is speculation that Heatley is on the Sharks' radar, but the club is yet to make a real move for the elite sniper.
July 23, 2009
According to the Edmonton Journal, the Oilers are still trying to convince Dany Heatley to accept a trade to their fare city.

Our View:The team has reportedly put together a video package of Edmonton's star players in an effort to entice the sulking sniper. They figure if Heatley sees how fun Edmonton is and how talented the players are he'll waive that no trade clause and head on over. No one connected to Heatley has confirmed if he has even watched said videos. This is getting sad.
July 14, 2009
Slam! Sports is reporting that the door may be closing on a Dany Heatley to Edmonton trade. The Oilers are getting very impatient, and they may give up on the deal as early as Tuesday.

Our View:Heatley wants out of Ottawa, but he only wants to go a specific team of his choosing. If he really wants out, he should jump at the chance when it arrives. Since he has not agreed to go to Edmonton, he may be out of luck if the Oilers pull out. As always, we will keep you updated on Heatley's status.
July 4, 2009
Slam! Sports is reporting that disgruntled Senator Dany Heatley wants options in the team's pursuit of a trade. Heatley and his agent believe there is more that can be done by the team, specifically with a team besides Edmonton.

Our View:This guy is unbelieveable. First he demands a trade, then he tells the Sens to find another team besides Edmonton to send him to. It is getting harder and harder every day to secure a trade, and it would almost be worth it to see how things would play out in Ottawa if he wasn't moved.
July 2, 2009
According to the Ottawa Citizen, the price for Dany Heatley has gone up.

Our View:By not getting a deal done by midnight Wednesday night, the Senators had to absorb a $4 million bonus owed to Heatley. They'll now be looking for even more in return to try and offset the additional cost they've incurred. The talented but cranky winger has already vetoed a trade to Edmonton after specifically asking for a move out of town and now seems stuck in Ottawa. The Senators will continue to entertain offers for the former 50-goal scorer, but he may wind up staying put. If that is the end result, it's sure to cause problems in the clubhouse and front office. Heatley is still going to be unhappy, and everyone surrounding him in Ottawa is well aware of it. This situation likely hasn't come to a head just yet.
July 1, 2009
According to the Edmonton Sun, Dany Heatley used his no-trade clause to veto a deal that would have landed him with the Oilers. The Senators would have received Andrew Cogliano, Ladislav Smid and Dustin Penner.

Our View:Heatley demanded a trade after his ice time was cut by coach Cory Clouston, so the Senators put together a deal to accommodate him and he puts the kebosh on it. We can't imagine the Sens would do this too many times over the course of the offseason and Heatley may have to stay unhappy and remain in Ottawa.
June 25, 2009
There is a rumor swirling that the Oilers may be interested in acquiring Dany Heatley from the Senators, according to SLAM Sports.

Our View:The Oilers would like to make a splash in the offseason by adding an impact player. The club only scored 234 goals in 2008-09, and Heatley would be a strong acquisition, as he netted 39 goals. Bringing in the star sniper to Edmonton would benefit top center Shawn Horcoff as well.
June 25, 2009
Senators' GM Bryan Murray indicated that he is looking for two players and a draft pick in exchange for star winger Dany Heatley, according to SLAM Sports.

Our View:A handful of undisclosed teams are believed to be interested in Heatley. He netted 39 goals with 33 assists over 82 games in 2008-09.
June 23, 2009
Senators' GM Bryan Murray indicated that he will try to deal Dany Heatley by July 1, according to Sportsnet.

Our View:July 1 is the deadline when Ottawa must pay Heatley a $4MM roster bonus. If the Senators do not trade Heatley, they can suspend him without pay if he decides not to play. The star sniper netted 39 goals in 2008-09.
June 21, 2009
The Blues are believed to be interested in Senators' star sniper Dany Heatley, according to HockeyBuzz.com.

Our View:Los Angeles, Calgary and New York are also said to be interested in Heatley. He would form a strong tandem on the wing with Brad Boyes if Heatley is dealt to St. Louis.
June 15, 2009
The Ottawa Citizen reports that disgruntled winger Dany Heatley has given the team a list of places he would prefer to be traded.

Our View:Heatley seems to be playing a game of beggars being choosers. With his decreased production and large salary, he could be hard to move anywhere, let alone a team of his choosing. He will still likely move, but perhaps not where he wishes.
June 14, 2009
The Edmonton Sun reports that the Edmonton Oilers are one of two teams that have contacted the Senators about acquiring winger Dany Heatley. However, it is believed that Heatley does not want to play for the Oilers either.

Our View:Heatley requested a trade last week and the Ducks are also believed to be interested in the sniper. He had 72 points in 82 games last season, and it looks as if he'll be doing his damage for a new team next season.
June 9, 2009
TSN is reporting that Senators' star Dany Heatley has requested a trade. Heatley signed a six-year extension worth $45 million in 2007 and has a no-movement clause in his contract. It is believed that he would like to go to a Western Conference team.

Our View:The Senators are going to have a very difficult time trading away Heatley with that contract. The potential team would have to take on the final five years of the deal and take a $7.5 million cap hit per season. Heatley is still a very good player, but his numbers were down last season and it remains to be seen if teams view him as worthy of that kind of money.
April 7, 2009
Dany Heatley scored his 38th goal of the season Tuesday against Boston to give the Senators a 3-2 win at home.

Our View:After recording one point in a span of six games from March 22 to April 2, Heatley has settled down to post four points in his last three contests.
April 6, 2009
Dany Heatley scored twice in the third period as the Senators beat the Canadiens 3-2 on Monday.

Our View:The winger had seven points in six games against Montreal this season. His 70 points this season is his lowest amount since being limited to 31 games in 2003-04.
March 29, 2009
Dany Heatley scored his 35th goal of the season Sunday in Ottawa's 3-0 road victory at Tampa Bay.

Our View:Heatley has struggled recently amid Ottawa's recent streak of wins. He has only four points during the Senators' stretch of six wins in eight games.
March 17, 2009
Dany Heatley scored his 33rd goal in Ottawa's 4-2 win over Buffalo.

Our View:Ottawa has been surging down the stretch and Heatley's prowess around the net is a big part of that. The sniper has come alive of late and has 65 points on the season.
March 11, 2009
Dany Heatley was given Tuesday off to rest, but will play tonight at home against the Lightning, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

Our View:The Senators' top sniper has netted two goals with two assists over his last four games, and collected 12 goals over 25 career outings with Tampa Bay.
March 5, 2009
Dany Heatley recorded a goal and an assist on Thursday in a 4-2 win over Edmonton.

Our View:Heatley now has recorded at least one point in seven consecutive games. He has nine total points during that time period.
February 21, 2009
Dany Heatley scored twice on seven shots as the Senators lost 5-3 to Montreal on Saturday.

Our View:Heatley continues to put up some nice numbers for the struggling Ottawa franchis. He has seven goals and an assist over the last six games. He has fired 29 shots in those six games.
February 16, 2009
Dany Heatley scored in Ottawa's 2-0 win over Nashville on Monday.

Our View:Heatley now has five points and four goals over his last three games. The Senators are picking up their play of late and Heatley has been a big part of that turnaround.
February 14, 2009
Dany Heatley recorded a goal and an assist on Saturday, helping the Senators to a huge 5-3 comeback win over the Wild.

Our View:Heatley's starting to heat up again for Ottawa. He now has three goals and an assist over his last two games.
February 12, 2009
Forward Dany Heatley tallied a goal and an assist in Ottawa's 5-2 road win at Philadelphia Thursday night.

Our View:Heatley scored four goals in a two-game span in mid-January but has scored just twice since. He has only four points since Jan. 20.
February 3, 2009
The Associated Press reports that the Ottawa Senators fired head coach Craig Hartsburg on Monday after just 48 games at the helm. Cory Clouston was promoted from his head coaching position with the AHL's Binghamton Senators and given a three-year contract by GM Bryan Murray.

Our View:The Senators currently have the league's third-worst record 48 games into the season at 17-24-7. Clouston will be the fourth Ottawa coach to man the bench since the team was bounced from the 2007 NHL Finals in five games by Anaheim.
January 20, 2009
Dany Heatley scored two power-play goals Tuesday night to lead the Senators to a 3-2 win over the Capitals.

Our View:The Germany native is beginning to pick it up a little bit. Heatley has four goals in his last two games. He is know tied for sixth in the league with 10 power-play goals.
January 17, 2009
Dany Heatley scored two third-period goals to pull the Sens even with the Habs, but Ottawa lost 5-4 in a shootout Saturday night.

Our View:Heatley now has as many goals against Montreal this season (3) as any other team. He also has three goals against both Pittsburgh and Philadelphia.
January 13, 2009
The same day he was demoted to Ottawa's second power-play unit, winger Dany Heatley kicked off the Senators' offensive barrage in Tuesday night's 5-1 win over the Hurricanes.

Our View:Heatley, scoring just two goals in the last 15 games prior to Tuesday, was demoted for a glaring dip in production. At his current rate, he'll be lucky to reach his projected total of 32 goals this season. The last three seasons combined, Heatley scored 141 goals.
January 8, 2009
Dany Heatley was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star team on Thursday, according to TSN.

Our View:Heatley was a bit of a surprise selection given his unusually uneven play (-2), and just 36 points in 38 games for the struggling Senators. He does have eight power-play goals, and 16 points with the man-advantage, but more was expected from this uber-stud.
