According to the team's official website, the Chiefs have released wide receiver Amani Toomer. Toomer had 580 yards and four touchdowns for the Giants last season.

Our View:Toomer has obviously lost a step, but you have to think that someone will take a chance on a verteran receiver who had some success last season. With that being said, if you can't make the Chiefs' roster with the talent, or lack thereof, that they currently have, then it will be difficult to catch on anywhere.

Adam Teicher of the Kansas City Star believes Amani Toomer is on the bubble to make the Chiefs.

Our View:Dwayne Bowe, Devard Darling, Bobby Engram, Mark Bradley, and Quinten Lawrence are all predicted by Teicher to make the team. Toomer may not be done though, as he averaged 12.1 yards over 48 catches with the Giants last season, and is now feeling more comfortable in the Chiefs' offense.

Amani Toomer is getting more comfortable with the Chiefs' offense, according to the Kansas City Star. Head coach Todd Haley said, "Amani has gotten a little more acclimated to the system."

Our View:The Chiefs lack a stable option for the No. 2 role at receiver as Dwayne Bowe's wingman, and Toomer could quite possibly push for the spot at some point this season. He does not garner fantasy attention for now though.

Former Giants standout Amani Toomer has signed with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to ESPN.

Our View:Toomer will not start for the Chiefs, but instead serve as a veteran presence in a very young Kansas City receiving corps. Look for him to catch a few balls, but for his greatest contribution this season to be the way he leads and teaches.

The Chiefs are close to signing free agent wide receiver Amani Toomer, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:The Chiefs are also considering signing D.J. Hackett, and David Terrell, but are apparently leaning toward Toomer to provide veteran depth in their receiving corps. He would almost assuredly not be a good fantasy option this season were he to sign.

Amani Toomer auditioned for the Chiefs Monday, according to the Kansas City Star.

Our View:Toomer would not push Dwayne Bowe or Mark Bradley for a starting job in Kansas City, but could help provide much-needed depth as a reserve.

Amani Toomer is believed to be rated higher on the free agent market than Marvin Harrison, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:Toomer is listed high on a few NFL teams' emergency list among free agent receivers. He should find work for the 2009 campaign, while there is belief that Harrison may be done and may not even want to resume his career as a reserve.

Amani Toomer believes he will get signed before or during training camp, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:There seems to be a glut of homeless veteran receivers available, so Toomer's chances of getting signed might not be as great as he thinks. Either way, he won't have any fantasy impact in 2009.

Steve Wyche of NFL.com claims that the Bears contacted Amani Toomer, while Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune states that the team didn't.

Our View:It is unclear if the Bears called Toomer or are even interested, but it is clear that the Bears could use a veteran receiver for their aerial attack. The 34-year-old vet had a solid career with the Giants, but is still looking for work.

Amani Toomer has not garnered any interest since hitting free agency, according to the NY Daily News.

Our View:The 13-year vet should find work when the market starts to thin out.
February 6, 2009
A source close to the situation indicated that the Giants told Amani Toomer he is not expected to be brought back in 2009, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View:The 13-year vet could still help a club as a possession receiver, but is not likely going to make a fantasy impact anymore.

Eli Manning said on Thursday that there was no agenda to phase out wide receiver Amani Toomer, according to the New Jersey Star-Ledger. "We had other guys in there also, so everybody can't get playing time," Manning said. "It's just a matter of putting him in certain situations and you have to rotate a lot of guys in."

Our View:Toomer only had 11 receptions in the Giants' last five games, so we can see how he got that impression. With Plaxico Burress out due to his suspension, one would think Toomer's workload would increase, not decrease. We'd be pretty surprised if he returns to the Giants unless his perspective changes on the situation as he will become eligible for free agency on February 27th.
January 28, 2009
According to the New York Daily News, Giants veteran wide receiver Amani Toomer doesn't expect to be in New York next season, and said he may not come back even if he were asked. Toomer said Wednesday he feels like he was phased out of the offense. "They tried to do it earlier in the season, but I kept playing well and keeping myself in the mix," said Toomer, who will be an unrestricted free agent on Feb. 27. "They let me play myself out of it, then kind of pulled the rug out from under me."

Our View:New York's all-time leader in catches, receiving yards, and touchdown catches, Toomer was unhappy with the fact that his playing time was cut significantly in the season's final five games. He said he realized he was no longer in the team's future plans when Plaxico Burress was suspended and the coaching staff took the opportunity to give younger players a chance to prove themselves.
January 28, 2009
Amani Toomer commented that he was not pleased with the Giants' coaching staff over the final stretch of the season, according to the Star-Ledger. He said, "The last couple of games I wasn't a big part of the offense and we lost a big percentage of the games (four of the last five). I feel like you can't tell me that didn't play a big role in it. I think it did."

Our View:The 34-year-old impending free agent feels like he was being phased out of the offense, and is uncertain if the Giants will offer him a new deal to stay.
