Newsbreakers
November 10, 2009
As expected, defensive back Jairus Byrd (groin) returned to Bills practice on Monday, according to the Buffalo News.

Our View:Byrd hasn't missed any game action with his injury, but did not practice during the Bills' bye week. His seven interceptions are tied for the NFL lead.

The Buffalo Bills official website is reporting that rookie defensive back Jairus Byrd is expected to return to practice next week. Byrd is suffering from a groin injury related to his previous hernia surgery.

Our View:The Bills are on bye this week, which is great news for Byrd. He saw a specialist about the injury, and he feels like he will be back on the field next Monday or Wednesday. The front-runner for defensive rookie of the year is vital to the Bills' defense, as he already has seven interceptions this season.

NFL co-interceptions leader Jairus Byrd is in "wait-and-see" mode as he deals with an ailing groin, according to the team.

Our View:The injury is related to surgery he had to remove a sports hernia last summer. With the Bills on bye this week, it's hard to imagine Byrd having to sit out in Week 10, but nothing new will really be known about his status until next week.
November 2, 2009
Rising rookie Jairus Byrd was forced from the Bills game late in the fourth quarter on Sunday with a groin injury, according to the Buffalo News.

Our View:Before getting injured on Sunday, Byrd's two interceptions made him just the third player in NFL history to post three straight multiple interception games. He currently leads the NFL with seven. His status should be updated in the next day or two, but he doesn't seem likely to miss the Bills' next game, which comes in Week 10 after a bye this week.

NFL.com is reporting that Bills' rookie safety Jairus Byrd has been cleared to practice with the team. Byrd was sidelined while recovering from sports hernia surgery.

Our View:The Bills' secondary is a little beat up right now with Drayton Florence and Bryan Scott both nursing injuries, so Byrd should get plenty of reps right away. He doesn't figure to begin the season as the starter at free safety because of the missed time, but he could see plenty of playing time as the year goes on.
July 29, 2009
Second-round pick Jairus Byrd has agreed to a deal with the Bills, according to the Buffalo News. Terms were not disclosed, but it is believed to be a four-year contract worth $4.2MM.

Our View:Byrd is signed, but the rookie will be unable to practice for at least the next two weeks while recovering from sports hernia surgery. The injury could hinder his chances of winning the starting gig at free safety.
July 28, 2009
The Buffalo Bills are reportedly close to a deal with second-round pick Jairus Byrd, according to NFL.com. Byrd, a cornerback out of Oregon, made 17 interceptions in his career as a Duck.

Our View:The two sides are expected to reach a deal in the coming days, and if Byrd gets in to camp soon he has a good chance to start for the team this season. He has excellent ball skills, and he could be a big-time playmaker down the road for Buffalo.
May 4, 2009
Jairus Byrd made 17 interceptions over three seasons with Oregon, and the Bills believe he could be a ball-hawk in their secondary, according to the Buffalo News. He also broke up 53 passes over that span.

Our View:Byrd is projected to start at free safety, once he picks up the Bills' defense. Ko Simpson failed to develop into a solid starter at the position with Buffalo, and was the weakest link of their secondary in 2008.
April 25, 2009
The Buffalo Bills selected Oregon cornerback Jarius Byrd in the second round with the 42nd overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft.

Our View:Byrd is a ball-hawking cornerback who compiled 17 intereptions during his three-year collegiate career. However, with Terrence McGee and Leodis McKelvin ahead of him on the depth chart, he will be left to compete for the nickel cornerback role in 2009.
