Brian Orakpo's 5.5 sacks this season are the most among NFL rookies, according to the Washington Times.

Our View:Orakpo has been an isolated bright spot in an otherwise disastrous season for the Redskins. He is worth a flier in IDP leagues.

Brian Orakpo exited the game against Detroit in the second quarter with an undisclosed injury, according to Yahoo's twitter page.

Our View:Orakpo was shaken up and walked off the field gingerly. No additional information is available regarding the severity of the injury.

The Redskins were impressed with rookie Brian Orakpo after his first preseason game on Thursday, according to The Washington Post.

Our View:"I thought he had exceptional speed," coach Jim Zorn was quoted as saying. "I thought he played hard. I liked what I saw. I think we got a player there." Orakpo apparently looked more comfortable at defensive end, his position in college, than linebacker, however. How the club plans to use him this season will surely evolve as the preseason does.

First rounder Brian Orakpo again shined at practice on Saturday, according to The Washington Post.

Our View:"We didn't get many yards when we ran at him," coach Jim Zorn said of his expected strong side linebacker. "He stood his ground." Defensive rookies are rarely great IDP players, but Orakpo is at least worth keeping an eye on because of his freakish athletic ability.

Rookie linebacker/defensive end Brian Orakpo has impressed at Redskins camp so far, according to NFL.com.

Our View:Orakpo has reportedly showed great ability when rushing from the weak side. He probably won't have huge IDP numbers in 2009, but is definitely someone to keep an eye on because of his versatility and raw athletic ability.
July 30, 2009
Updating an earlier report, Brian Orakpo has agreed to a deal with the Redskins, according to their official team website. Contract details were not disclosed, but is believed to be a five-year pact.

Our View:Orakpo is expected to win the starting gig at strong-side linebacker in training camp now that he is signed. He will also work at defensive end in passing situations. Orakpo should make a solid impact as a rookie in IDP leagues, namely in those that put a premium on sacks.

First-round pick Brian Orakpo remains unsigned, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Alfred Fincher and Chris Wilson are getting most of the reps at strong-side linebacker while the rookie is absent. Orakpo has a bright future ahead of him in the NFL, but cannot develop his skills in camp without a contract.
June 26, 2009
Brian Orakpo has been working as the starting strong-side linebacker in practice, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Orakpo will serve at linebacker on first and second down, and will move to defensive end in passing situations. Orakpo is a tremendous athlete, and is considered to be the best rush linebacker to come out of college since DeMarcus Ware. He may need time to develop in the NFL, but should make a strong impact down the road, and is worth targeting for keeper IDP leagues.

The Redskins opened a three-day minicamp on Friday, and first-round pick Brian Orakpo is working out with the linebackers, the Washington Post notes.

Our View:We expect Orakpo to move around and rush the passer on third downs. If we look back at how the Redskins used linebackers like Marcus Washington and LaVar Arrington when they were younger and effective, we'll probably have a good idea of Orakpo's upside. They will ask a lot of this rookie, though, and it could take him a year to turn into a useful IDP talent.

The Washington Redskins selected Texas defensive end Brian Orakpo with the 13th overall selection in the 2009 draft.

Our View:Over the past few seasons, the Redskins Achilles heel has been the defensive line, which has failed to generate pressure from the edge. Enter Brian Orakpo, who has posted 25.5 tackles for a loss and 17.0 sacks during the past two seasons.
April 21, 2009
Brian Orakpo (Texas) noted that he enjoyed his visit with the Redskins, according to the Washington Post. He said, "The visit with Washington went really well," Orakpo said. "I got a chance to meet Mr. Snyder and executive vice president Vinny Cerrato and Coach Jim Zorn and the rest of coaching staff. We had a nice dinner, and I know Mr. Snyder likes to take care of his players, and we had a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant, a good steak house, and it was a good chance for them to get to know you better and have a little fun."

Our View:The Redskins have the 13th pick in the draft, but Orakpo could be off the board before then. If he does land in Washington, the club would use him in a hybrid role as a defensive end and rush linebacker on the outside. He is a great athlete, and has been compared to DeMarcus Ware of the Cowboys.
April 16, 2009
The Washington Post reports that the Redskins would like to move up in this weekend's draft to select quarterback Mark Sanchez or one of the top offensive tackles. If none of those players are available when they draft (they currently hold the 13th pick) defensive end Brian Orakpo is the frontrunner to be selected.

Our View:If they draft at No. 13, there's a real good chance that Orakpo will not be there either. It is believed that owner Dan Snyder wants Sanchez bad enough that he would trade into the Top 4 to get him.

Brian Orakpo (Texas) will visit the Browns next week, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

Our View:Orakpo is a great athlete and is considered the best rush linebacker to enter the draft since DeMarcus Ware. Kamerion Wimbley has failed to play up to expectations as a pass-rushing linebacker for Cleveland.
