Vontae Davis exited the game at New England in the first quarter with a quad injury, according to Mike Reiss' twitter page.

Our View:Davis is questionable to return, and will be replaced by either Nathan Jones or Jason Allen.
September 17, 2009
According to the Palm Beach Post, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said cornerbacks Vontae Davis and Sean Smith will continue to split time this season.

Our View:Sparano admits he like watching both defenders play and will keep splitting the snaps between them until one of the two emerges as a true favorite. Until that happens, neither one is a strong IDP play.

Vontae Davis participated in his third straight practice on Thursday, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Omar Kelly. Davis is expected to play in Week 1 for the Dolphins.

Our View:Davis has been struggling with a knee injury, but he was in a brace on Thursday and looked fine. Since he has practiced this week, it looks like he will be good to go this weekend barring a setback, but don't expect him to be out there for every down, as he still has to earn his playing time.

Vontae Davis fully practiced with the Dolphins Wednesday, according to the Falcons' official website. He has been dealing with a knee injury.

Our View:If healthy, the rookie will be making his NFL debut against the Falcons on Sunday. Davis was drafted in the first round to solidify Miami's secondary.

Dolphins' rookie corner Vontae Davis told the Miami Herald that he will be ready to play in the team's Week 1 contest on Sunday. Herald reporter David J. Neal comments that Davis limped noticeably out of the meeting room after practice with an electronic stimulation device on his injured knee.

Our View:Davis did practice on Monday, but it sounds like he was struggling pretty badly afterward. We should know more tomorrow, but Davis obviously wants to get on the field Sunday and will do whatever he can to make it happen.

The Miami Herald is reporting that Dolphins' rookie cornerback Vontae Davis is questionable for Week 1 with a knee injury. Davis suffered the injury in the team's final preseason game.

Our View:Coach Tony Sparano didn't sound all that confident that Davis would be ready by next week, but it is still too early to make a judgement. He doesn't figure to see all that much time early in the season, so this injury shouldn't impact the team much.
July 31, 2009
According to the Palm Beach Post the Dolphins and cornerback Vontae Davis have agreed on a five-year contract.

Our View:No details on money yet, but the Dolphins did well to lock up the 25th overall pick. He is expected to report to camp on Saturday and will compete for the starting right CB spot.

Charges against Vontae Davis have been dismissed, according to ProFootballTalk.com. John F. Murphy of the Champaign police department said, "We have dismissed the traffic ticket and ordinance violation issued in Vontae Davis' name. We are satisfied that he was not the individual we had contact with June 9, 2009."

Our View:It turned out to be a case of mistaken identity, as Davis initially stated. The Dolphins' cornerback can now concentrate on gearing up for his first season in the NFL.

According to the Miami Herald, the Champaign police department has delayed the case against Dolphins' corner Vontae Davis while they conduct an internal investigation. Davis and the Dolphins are claiming that he could not have been arrested in Illinois since he was in Florida with the team.

Our View:It looks like Davis is innocent here, which should be discovered as the Champaign PD review the situation. There is some pretty strong evidence that he could not have been in Illinois at the time of the incident, so all signs are pointing at this being a non-issue for the rookie.
June 24, 2009
Updating a previous report, the arrest involving Vontae Davis is likely a case of mistaken or stolen identity, reports the Miami Herald.

Our View:Davis, who was supposedly arrested in Illinois on June 9th, was in South Florida at OTAs that day until 3:30 pm and returned the next morning at 7:00. His wallet was stolen while in Champaign, IL and someone was likely using his identity. Davis will probably be cleared of any wrong doing, as the Dolphins are conducting an investigation.
June 23, 2009
The Miami Herald is reporting that Dolphins' first-round pick Vontae Davis was arrested on June 9 in Champaign, Illinois for unnecessary vehicular noise and driving without a valid license. Davis received a notice to appear.

Our View:There were some questions about Davis' character going into the draft, mainly stemming from on-the-field incidents, but this news will not go over well with the Dolphins' staff. Although it may not seem like a big deal, in today's NFL any run-in with the police has the potential to get you in trouble with the league and/or the team. We will have to wait and see what, if any, affect this will have on his status with the team.
June 3, 2009
The Miami Herald reports that first-round pick Vontae Davis is not necessarily the favorite to win the right cornerback spot.

Our View:Davis is competing with Sean Smith and Eric Green and has apparently lost a "slight edge". Smith has been playing very well and Green has experience, so Davis will have to step up his game. There is still plenty of time for him to make an impression though.
May 25, 2009
Head coach Tony Sparano is not concerned with the claim that rookie Vontae Davis has character issues, according to the Dolphins' official team website. Sparano stated, "We did all of our homework with Vontae."

Our View:Davis has the physical tools to develop into a strong starting cornerback for the Dolphins, but he has been known to talk down to coaches at Illinois, and exaggerated injuries to get out of practice. He also lacks toughness and loses focus at times. Sparano is confident he will successfully fill their void at cornerback, but could also turn out to be a bust.
May 2, 2009
Rookie Vontae Davis (Illinois) was clutching his back several times during today's minicamp, according to the Miami Herald.

Our View:He reportedly hurt his lower-back and did not perform well in practice as a result. He was drafted in the first round to fill the Dolphins' need at cornerback.
April 25, 2009
The Miami Dolphins selected Illinois cornerback Vontae Davis with the 25th overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft.

Our View:Miami allowed cornerback Andre Goodman to walk via free agency, replacing him with ex-Cardinal Eric Green, who landed in the doghouse last year. Given the uncertainty at the position, Davis has a good chance to start right away, and he possesses the prototype size and speed to make an instant impact.
April 23, 2009
The Ravens are in the market for a cornerback and have several on their radar heading into the draft, according to the Baltimore Sun. The Ravens' director of player personnel Eric DeCosta said, "I think corners are like pitchers in baseball - you can never have enough. You never want to get beat because your corners are not good enough to play or not healthy. So, having that depth at that position is just critical."

Our View:The Ravens are high on Vontae Davis (Illinois) and also like Sean Smith (Utah) and Darius Butler (Connecticut). The club needs to add depth after releasing Chris McAlister, and Baltimore may use an early pick on the position. Their first pick is at No. 26 in the first round.
April 20, 2009
Contrary to a report on NFLDraftBible.com, a league source has indicated that Vontae Davis did not test positive for marijuana at the Scouting Combine, according to ProFootballTalk.com. Davis has denied the rumor since it came out.

Our View:This announcement should assure that Davis remains a first round pick, which puts an end to some questions about his character. Davis is expected to go in the mid-first round, so there should be no change in his draft stock.
April 17, 2009
Vontae Davis (Illinois) visited the Ravens Thursday, according to the Carroll County Times.

Our View:Davis previously visited the Patriots, Vikings, Steelers, Eagles, Jets and Bills. He also worked out privately for the Browns, Dolphins and Broncos. The Ravens have a top area of need at cornerback, but Davis will likely be taken by the time the club picks at No. 26 in the first round.
April 14, 2009
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that Vontae Davis (Illinois) is one one five players in for a visit with the Steelers on Tuesday.

Our View:Davis will probably be off the board when the Steelers pick at 32, but his lack of discipline could scare some teams in the middle of the first round away. Don't expect 31 teams to pass on Davis though. He is too talented.
March 29, 2009
Vontae Davis (Illinois) visited the Dolphins, according to the Sun Sentinel. He said, "I like the coaching staff and who could ask for a better place to play than Miami."

Our View:Davis is among the best athletes in the draft, but has had issues with a lack of discpline, which could hurt him in the NFL. As a cornerback, his coverage skills are top notch.
