Michael Crabtree caught just three passes for 30 yards in week 9.

Our View:Many expected this to be the week where Crabtree broke out, but he was held in check by an unimpressive Titans secondary. He was targeted nine times, but it appears that he and Alex Smith haven't formed a fluid working relationship just yet. Expect his numbers to increase as they get more comfortable with each other down the road.
November 1, 2009
Michael Crabtree had six receptions for 81 yards in the Week 8 loss to Indianapolis.

Our View:After two games, Crabtree has posted 11 receptions for 137 yards, which is pretty impressive for a player who only signed about a month ago. The rookie has yet to crack the end zone, but he represents a serviceable No. 3 fantasy wideout or solid bench depth in PPR formats.
October 30, 2009
Despite Michael Crabtree finally signing with the San Francisco 49ers this month, the league is still pursuing tampering allegations the team made against the New York Jets in regards to the rookie receiver earlier this season, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:49ers coach Mike Singletary is not the kind to let things go, and he could be sending a message from the rest of the league to the new brash regime in New York. Nothing seems likely to come of it, however, except for maybe a humbling.
October 25, 2009
Michael Crabtree posted five receptions for 56 yards in the Week 7 loss to Houston.

Our View:All things considered not a bad professional debut for Crabtree, who missed the offseason program, training camp, as well as the entire preseason and first five regular season games. Regardless, don't look for much progress next week at Indianapolis, as the Colts are brutal against the pass.
October 25, 2009
Michael Crabtree is expected to start and play during 50 percent of the snaps, according to Chris Mortensen of ESPN.

Our View:During the bye week wide receiver Josh Morgan mentored Crabtree, who we consider a risky play after missing the entire offseason program, training camp, preseason games and the first quarter of the regular campaign.
October 19, 2009
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports that rookie wide receiver Michael Crabtree is expected to start in his NFL debut this Sunday against the Texans. He will line up across the field from Isaac Bruce.

Our View:Well, that didn't take long. Reports of Crabtree getting buried on the depth chart appear to have been greatly exaggerated. Claims of him likely being behind Josh Morgan, Brandon Jones and Arnaz Battle were all well and good, but flawed for one reason - they're not as talented as Crabtree is. This accelerates his time-table for fantasy relevancy, as well, just don't expect any immediate miracles.
October 14, 2009
49ers coach Mike Singletary confirmed on Wednesday that rookie wide receiver Michael Crabtree will make his NFL debut on October 25 when the 49ers take on the Texans, according to Matt Maiocco of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:The 49ers' bye week this week gives him the opportunity to have a very intense week of preparation and playbook study. The Texans have a mediocre pass defense, so Crabtree could conceivably have an impact in his first game. Still, it's not likely after all the time he has missed.
October 12, 2009
According to the Twitter page of 49ers' beat writer Matt Maiocco, wide receiver Michael Crabtree will stay in San Francisco and work while the rest of his teammates get away during the bye week. Coach Mike Singletary was asked why Crabtree is staying in town, and he replied that Crabtree "already had his bye week."

Our View:Crabtree needs all the work he can get, and the bye week is the perfect time to make up for lost time. Singletary's might be the best one-liner coach in the NFL these days, because he lets you know he means business but it is usually pretty funny.
October 9, 2009
The National Football Post is reporting that 49ers' wide receiver Michael Crabtree will be used as a slot receiver when he makes his debut with the team. Offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye believes playing Crabtree in the slot gives him the best chance of making an impact sooner, because Crabtree reportedly only ran two different routes in college.

Our View:The learning curve is going to be steep, especially if Crabtree really did only run two routes in college. The NFL playbook is very extensive, so this just adds to the theory that Crabtree will not make a major impact with the team this season.
October 8, 2009
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that 49ers' wide receiver Issac Bruce believes that rookie Michael Crabtree will learn the offense very quickly. "It shouldn't take long," Bruce said. "He seems like a bright guy."

Our View:When the media can actually get Bruce to say something, it is almost always positive. He isn't the kind of guy to throw a teammate under the bus, but we have to disagree in this instance. Wide receiver can be one of the toughest positions to transition from college to the NFL, and that's with a full offseason, training camp, and preseason. Fantasy owners who jumped on Crabtree yesterday when he signed need to temper their expectations for this season, especially considering the offense he plays in with the Niners.
October 7, 2009
Via a "league source," Pro Football Talk reports that Michael Crabtree's six-year contract is worth $32 million, with $17 million of it being guaranteed.

Our View:It's clearer than ever that Crabtree gained nothing from his holdout, least of all more money. He will likely make his 49er debut on October 25th against the Texans.
October 7, 2009
The 49ers have been granted a two-week roster exemption for the recently signed Michael Crabtree, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:Crabtree is obviously way behind on the 49ers' offense, and will likely need every day of those two weeks to even have a base understanding on the team's system. Don't expect big fantasy results for the foreseeable future.
October 7, 2009
Holdout draft pick Michael Crabtree and the San Francisco 49ers have finally agreed to a contract, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The saga ends. The deal is reported to be for six seasons, but financial terms have not yet been disclosed. Crabtree has missed a 3-1 start for San Francisco, and will likely be getting brought up to speed for weeks. That being said, if you are in dire need of a receiver, there's no reason to not take a flier on him if the owner who drafted him got frustrated and dropped him.
October 6, 2009
ESPN's Adam Schefter has said he believes the Michael Crabtree contract saga "ends today."

Our View:Very strong words, but considering the usual accuracy of Mr. Schefter's reports, it's a decent bet that Crabtree will be a Niner by midnight.
October 6, 2009
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that holdout wide receiver Michael Crabtree and the 49ers are indeed meeting on Tuesday, and that he believes "something" will get done.

Our View:It's about reached the point where something has to. Crabtree has basically zero leverage because of San Francisco's 3-1 start, and has probably realized by now that he will almost surely get even less money if he re-enters the draft in 2010. It won't be surprising at all if after today he is finally out of the practice field with San Francisco.
October 5, 2009
Updating an earlier item, ESPN is now reporting that the 49ers and holdout draft pick Michael Crabtree are indeed set to renew contract negotiations.

Our View:Little other detail is available at the moment, but as they say, where there's smoke, there's fire, so the two sides might finally be nearing an end to this protracted and ridiculous holdout. The absolute final day Crabtree could sign to become a Niner is November 17.
October 5, 2009
NFL Network analyst Deion Sanders hinted on Sunday that holdout wide receiver Michael Crabtree may soon cave and sign with the 49ers, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:Sanders is a well-known Crabtree confidant, and him dropping hints very well could be the prelude to a contract. Despite being 3-1, San Francisco has a dramatic lack of weapons on the offensive side of the ball, and obviously, the longer Crabtree holds out the more money he is losing. A deal makes too much sense for one not to get done soon.
September 29, 2009
Pro Football Talk reports that unsigned draft pick Michael Crabtree hasn't spoken with anyone in the 49ers organization in two weeks.

Our View:Crabtree and his agent apparently have no sense of urgency to get this deal done and it appears that both sides are willing to be stubborn and stand pat. The receiver's agent is telling sources that at least one team is willing to give him a deal similar to Larry Fitzgerald's four-year, $40 million contract. Crabtree certainly has a high opinion of himself, thinking that he deserves the same amount of money as the best receiver in the game even though he's never played a single professional down. He does know that the NFL is a little tougher than the Big 12 Conference, right?
September 27, 2009
Michael Crabtree, who left the Bay Area a couple of weeks ago, is now working out in the Orlando area. And there's a perception that agent Eugene Parker now has zero sense of urgency to resolve the contract impasse, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:Both sides are hunkered down in their positions, and Crabtree will be required to sit out the entire 2009 season if a contract doesn't get signed by November 17.
September 21, 2009
The 49ers are accusing the New York Jets of tampering with holdout wide receiver Michael Crabtree, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:The 49ers believe the Jets have contacted Crabtree's agent Eugene Parker and communicated the message that they would be "interested in trading for his rights, or in drafting him in 2010 with a better salary than the 49ers are offering." Yikes. More is sure to develop on this, so stay tuned.
September 19, 2009
The San Francisco 49ers do not plan to trade Michael Crabtree even if he theatens to sit out the entire season, according to ESPN.com. GM Jed York feels the team is in good shape with two first-round picks next season, and they still want Crabtree to play in San Fran.

Our View:The 49ers really like Crabtree as a player and they want him to join the team. They aren't likely to make a trade unless someone blows their socks off, and we still think Crabtree will be a Niner this season.
September 16, 2009
According to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, 49ers' team president Jed York has informed Michael Crabtree and his agent, Eugene Parker, that he would like to meet with the pair in person to discuss the contract negotiations. York told the paper that he hadn't received a response from the Crabtree camp.

Our View:Maybe York thinks he can persuade Crabtree and Parker to take the deal that is on the table if he speaks to them face-to-face. We doubt it, although it has been rumored that the Niners may be getting close to caving to the receiver's demands. We will continue to monitor the situation going forward, and we will let you know if anything changes.
September 15, 2009
The 49ers could be caving to holdout draft pick Michael Crabtree and making him an improved offer, according to CBS Sports.

Our View:Specifics are scarce, but it is believed they are prepared to offer the tenth overall pick from last spring's draft a deal better than the five year, $20 million (with $16 million guaranteed) one currently on the table. A deal would greatly benefit both sides, so expect something to get done soon.
September 14, 2009
The San Francisco Chronicle points out that 49ers' rookie Michael Crabtree would not be able to work out for teams prior to the 2010 draft if he decides to sit out this season. The team will retain his rights until draft day, so he will not be able to participate in any pre-draft activities.

Our View:Crabtree is almost guaranteed to drop well below his slot if he sits this season out, which makes you wonder why he would even consider it. He won't be allowed to talk to or work out for anyone before the draft, and after this season it wouldn't make sense for anyone to use a high pick on him. The Niners hold all the cards here, and Crabtree needs to realize that before he ruins his career before it even gets started.
September 13, 2009
At this time - and that's an important distinction to be made - there is every expectation that former Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree will not sign with the San Francisco 49ers and instead will sit out this season and reenter the draft in April, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View:The report cites multiple sources out of the Bay Area, and also states the 49ers still want Crabtree, it's just that no one in the organization can now envision a way in which it would happen. We think the young man is making a big mistake, as he will never be able recoup the money currently on the table, and sitting out an entire season has rarely yielded positive results in the past.
September 10, 2009
According to ESPN.com, puzzling wideout Michael Crabtree has already decided that he won't sign at the price the 49ers are prepared to offer him.

Our View:The Niners are offering 10th pick money, a five-year $20 million deal that maxes out at $26.5 million, but Crabtree isn't interested. He feels he deserves more money regardless of where he was drafted, even though he's never appeared in a professional football game. He's willing to sit out the entire season, and if one side doesn't budge, that's exactly what he'll do. Looks like greed trumps the love of the game.
September 8, 2009
A "source close to" mercurial 49ers rookie Michael Crabtree said on Tuesday that he is "weird enough that he just might do it" when asked if Crabtree might actually holdout the entire 2009 NFL season and re-enter the draft next year, according to Yahoo! Sports.

Our View:Even though the 49ers remain optimistic he will sign at some point since they believe a holdout "defies all logic," Crabtree will have no fantasy value this season even if he does sign since he will no doubt be in coach Mike Singletary's doghouse and amazingly far behind on learning the team's system.
September 2, 2009
According to Adam Schefter on Twitter, the Niners and top pick Michael Crabtree are not even close to signing a deal.

Our View:Schefter stated that anyone waiting for Crabtree to sign will be "waiting for a long time. A real long time". This doesn't sound good and it may be time to dump Crabtree if you happened to draft him, thinking that he would sign before the season.
September 2, 2009
49ers beat reporter Matt Maiocco believes holdout wide receiver Michael Crabtree will sign with the team before the regular season begins.

Our View:49ers GM Scot McCloughan also recently said he believes the team will reel in the number ten overall draft pick before the season begins. He has missed so much preparation time at this point, however, that it is hard to envision him having much of an impact should he actually forego his rumored plans to sit out all of 2009.
August 31, 2009
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, 49ers' GM Scot McCloughan is confident that the team will get first-round pick Michael Crabtree signed before the season begins. "It'll get done," McCloughan told the paper. "What's three or four months on a five- or six-year contract?"

Our View:The article points out that Crabtree has spent much of the summer in the Bay area instead of at his home in Texas, which would seem to indicate that he plans on signing. The Niners feel like Crabtree can still help the team this season if he does sign, but he won't have nearly as much of an impact as he could have if he would have gotten into camp at a reasonable time.
August 27, 2009
Michael Crabtree is "serious" about sitting out the entire 2009 season and re-entering the NFL draft if he does not receive the contract he wants from the 49ers, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

Our View:Crabtree and team are reportedly still quibbling over $7 million in guaranteed money. It's just a hunch, but it probably stands to reason that he will lose a lot more than that if he sits out 2009 and re-enters the draft as opposed to signing the 49ers offer.
August 26, 2009
Eugene Parker, the agent for tenth overall draft pick Michael Crabtree, is blaming the receiver's holdout on Crabtree, and not himself, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:Parker points to the non-contentious negotiations he had with the Kansas City Chiefs regarding third overall pick Tyson Jackson as evidence. Crabtree is apparently still insisting on getting a bigger contract than seventh overall pick Darrius Heyward-Bey, with the 49ers having zero intention of paying him more than ninth overall pick B.J. Raji. Don't expect Crabtree to win this fight.
August 14, 2009
According to Matt Maiocco on Twitter, the 49ers will not offer tenth overall pick Michael Crabtree any more money than the Packers gave ninth overall selection B.J. Raji.

Our View:Looks like the Niners aren't willing to budge on this front. Raji received just under $18 million guaranteed and San Fran won't pay above that for a lesser pick. Someone is going to have to budge in this situation, and it should be Crabtree based on the fact that he wants to play football. But it looks like money means everything these days. Currently the Niners top two receiving spots belong to Isaac Bruce and Josh Morgan.
August 12, 2009
Michael Crabtree has now missed 20 practices while holding out, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Crabtree and the 49ers remain far apart on contract negotiations.

Our View:Unless Crabtree has a change of heart soon, he will miss too much time to be considered a legit fantasy option this season. Each day the holdout continues, his fantasy value drops a little more, and so do his chances of making any kind of impact on the team this season. You should adjust your draft boards accordingly.
August 6, 2009
According to NFL Fanhouse, Michael Crabtree's agent, Eugene Parker, has denied any reports that the tenth overall pick has threatened to sit out next season and reenter the draft.

Our View:This directly contradicts an earlier report where Crabtree's cousin/adviser, David Wells, confirmed the receiver's willingness to sit out this year. The 49ers have stepped up as well and claim to "have no idea" what Wells is referring to. Looks like this was a shady plan to try and squeeze out more money. Now they are back to square one and Crabtree still isn't in training camp. What a waste.
August 6, 2009
According to Pro Football Talk, negotiations between the 49ers and Michael Crabtree have been so fruitless that the first-round pick has threatened to sit out the entire season and reenter the draft in 2010.

Our View:Crabtree wants to be paid like a top three-to-five pick and apparently his agent hasn't even made an offer to the Niners yet. It doesn't sound like either side is even remotely close on this deal. No one even knows what Crabtree wants yet and he's threatening to sit out. It would be extremely unfortunate if he were to miss the season over this.
August 3, 2009
Michael Crabtree remains unsigned and no progress has been made in negotiations, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:Speculation that a deal had been done proved to be false. 49ers' coach Mike Singletary noted that he will be excited when the prized rookie is signed and in camp, but is just focusing on his current group of receivers for the time being.
August 1, 2009
Wide receiver Michael Crabtree hasn't signed a deal and is not present as the 49ers opened camp on Saturday, the AP reports.

Our View:Crabtree is not helping his fantasy cause. He missed much of the summer while recovering from a foot injury and is now missing valuable camp time. We love the rookie's skills, but it's tough to win a starting job and learn an offense when you aren't on the field.
July 27, 2009
Michael Crabtree is reportedly holding out for "top three draft pick money," according to the Denver Post.

Our View:Ohh boy. This holdout could take longer than we originally thought. Not only is his holdout holding up the 49ers training camp, but the camps of many other teams trying to sign their number one picks, since they would in turn want pay boosts to the degree Crabtree would be getting. Crabtree is at least off to a running start when it comes to being a spoiled receiver diva.
July 27, 2009
The 49ers and 2009 first round draft pick Michael Crabtree are reportedly far apart in their contract negotiations, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:Crabtree has looked pretty high maintenance during his short NFL tenure so far, so it wouldn't be surprising at all were he to hold out for a little while from 49ers camp. Because of his breathtaking talent, it shouldn't hurt his draft stock too much (mid to late round gamble)as long as it doesn't drag on for too long.
July 19, 2009
Michael Crabtree had an incident last week that made coach Mike Singletary "prescribe extra running for the entire team," according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:Crabtree, who is still rehabbing from a foot injury, was late to a team meeting. It is said that he offered no apology to teammates for causing the extra work. The rookie has had a checkered first offseason, being accused of diva-like behavior, while almost crying in practice last week. Still, as long as he continues to get healthy, he is well worth a mid round draft pick in most formats because of his enormous potential.
June 12, 2009
The San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that 49ers' coach Mike Singletary almost made rookie wide receiver Michael Crabtree cry during the team's first set of OTA's this summer when he caught Crabtree running routes before he was cleared by the medical staff. "I've got nothing against you. I'm not angry or anything. I just want you to know, you have to do everything the doctors want you to do so that you can get better. I'm not worried about what you can do. I know. We drafted you at No. 10. We know what you can do," Singletary told him.

Our View:Crabtree has since been cleared to participate with the team, and he is expected to be full speed for training camp. In this day and age when NFL coaches practically have to beg players to get on the field, this is a nice change of pace. Crabtree appears to be chomping at the bit to get his NFL career started, and he figures to win a starting job for the Niners at the start of the season.
June 7, 2009
Michael Crabtree, who has been recovering from foot surgery, ran hard with the 49ers Sunday, according to the Sacramento Bee. The rookie ran about a dozen 40-yard sprints at 75 percent speed, and was closely monitored by the 49ers' staff.

Our View:Crabtree is not expected to fully practice until training camp, but this is encouraging news regarding his progress from March surgery. Crabtree will compete with Josh Morgan for a starting role at receiver if he proves to be healthy.
June 5, 2009
Head coach Mike Singletary expects prized rookie Michael Crabtree (foot surgery) to be ready to go at the start of training camp in late July, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:If healthy, Crabtree is expected to battle Josh Morgan for the starting role at receiver opposite veteran Isaac Bruce. Receiver was a top area of need for San Francisco, and it should not take Crabtree long to emerge as the top target in their aerial attack.
May 2, 2009
Wide receiver Michael Crabtree worked out on a stationary bike on Friday. He was out of the first mini-camp practice because he is still recovering from early March surgery to repair a stress fracture in his right foot, the Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports.

Our View:Isaac Bruce expects to start at one wide receiver spot, but the "X" job could be a battle between Crabtree and Josh Morgan. It's rarely good for a rookie to miss time, as they need to pick up offenses quickly. We're not overly worried about Crabtree yet, though.
April 26, 2009
Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach blames Browns head coach Eric Mangini for spreading the rumors that wide receiver Michael Crabtree is a diva. "Michael Crabtree has been more successful as a receiver than that guy has a coach at this point," Leach tells the Sacramento Bee. "My definition of a diva is someone who's loud and self-absorbed. Michael Crabtree is the furthest thing from loud that I've seen... Let's see how all those non-divas do up in Cleveland this year."

Our View:The "diva" murmurs did seem to originate in the Cleveland press, but they weren't the only team to express such sentiments. Anyway, that really doesn't matter now. Crabtree lost a little dough by falling to No. 10, but if he is as talented as suggested, he will make nine teams look silly for passing on him.
April 25, 2009
The San Francisco 49ers selected Texas Tech wide receiver Michael Crabtree with the tenth overall pick in the 2009 NFL draft.

Our View:This is a position of need for the 49ers, and Crabtree is the only blue-chip wideout in this class. He is a highly competive receiver with outstanding ball skills and a nose for the end zone. From a fantasy perspective, he should start from Day 1 in the City by the Bay.
April 25, 2009
Michael Crabtree is the top rated player on the Packers draft board, according Bob McGinn of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Our View:The Packers don't really need another wide receiver, but at the same time if Crabtree does fall to them at the #9 pick, could they really pass?
April 24, 2009
Michael Crabtree hinted that he would not like to play for Oakland, according to RaiderBeat.com. When asked about the possibility of being drafted by the Raiders, Crabtree answered, "I am not cocky at all. People talk, man, but I am a cool guy. As for playing for the Raiders, no comment."

Our View:Crabtree previously stated that he would love to play for the Browns, and added that it would be fun to play for the Cowboys, as that was the team he cheered for as a kid. He also noted that he would play for whatever team chooses him, to prevent bad blood with Oakland, and more importantly, their fans.
April 22, 2009
Wide receiver Michael Crabtree doesn't look like a good fit for the Cleveland Browns. A source informs the Cleveland Plain-Dealer that Crabtree brought a bad attitude when he visited the Browns last week. The wide receiver is considered to be "not nice," and the Browns have basically crossed him off their board.

Our View:Gasp! A wide receiver acting like a diva?! The NFL will never stand for such actions. The Browns are apparently so flush with offensive talent that they can pass on possibly the best skill-position player in the draft. Yes, that's sarcasm, folks.
April 22, 2009
Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech) praised the Browns and would like to join the franchise, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. Crabtree said, "I loved Cleveland and would love to play there. It is a team with great history and great fans who love football."

Our View:Crabtree could be an option for the Browns at pick No. 5, especially if they deal Braylon Edwards. Cleveland is a great city for sports, and Crabtree would also love the financial security that comes with being a top-5 draft pick.
April 21, 2009
Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech) told Dan Patrick he could run a sub-4.4 in the 40-yard dash, according to Sports Illustrated. Crabtree also pointed out that he is no longer on crutches following foot surgery to repair a stress fracture.

Our View:Crabtree may prove to be the top receiver in the 2009 draft class, and should be a top-10 pick, and could potentially go in the top-5.
April 18, 2009
The Browns will reportedly target either wide receiver Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech) or quarterback Mark Sanchez (USC) with pick No. 5 in the draft, according to 19 Action News in Cleveland.

Our View:The Browns have needs at both positions, but this report is purely speculation regarding what the club intends to do with the pick. They could also consider linebacker Aaron Curry of Wake Forest (if available) or running back Chris Wells (Ohio State).
April 16, 2009
The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that the Browns have no concerns about the health of Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech). "There's a comfort level with Michael. He had the surgery. We got the information from the doctor. We feel good about where he is," GM George Kokinis said.

Our View:Crabtree appears to be a real option for the Browns at No. 5, especially if they deal Braylon Edwards. If the Browns are truly comfortable with his health, Crabtree may be taking up residence in Cleveland in a few weeks.
April 13, 2009
Michael Crabtree's stress fracture injury is not believed to be a concern, according to Sports Illustrated. An undisclosed NFL executive said, "It is not an issue to us. I view it as less worrisome than the stress fracture Carolina running back draftee Jonathan Stewart had last year."

Our View:Crabtree is the top-rated player on some NFL draft boards, and it is a positive sign that he was able to play through the injury at Texas Tech last season. Crabtree should remain a top-10 draft pick.
April 12, 2009
The Browns are reportedly very high on Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech), according to the National Football Post.

Our View:The Browns could target him with the fifth overall pick in the draft. The club needs help at receiver, especially if they decide to trade Braylon Edwards.
March 31, 2009
Michael Crabtree (Texas Tech) is expected to visit the 49ers in the coming weeks, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:The 49ers' top need was at offensive tackle, but they helped fill the void with the addition of Marvel Smith. The 49ers need a No. 1 receiver, but Crabtree may be gone by the time they pick at No. 10 in the first-round. Jeremy Maclin of Missouri could be off the board as well.
March 9, 2009
There is speculation that the Raiders are targeting Michael Crabtree, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:The club reportedly believes that the Texas Tech receiver will be available when they pick seventh in the draft. That is why they did not pursue Terrell Owens. Crabtree would give Javon Walker a solid wingman if the Raiders land him.
March 2, 2009
Adam Schefter of NFL.com indicates that Michael Crabtree will undergo surgery on the slight stress fracture in his left foot. Crabtree said, "After thorough consideration and discussion with my advisers and doctors, I decided to have the surgery rather than risk any further injury. As a competitor, I wanted to run at my pro day, but it became clear that the best thing for me is to have the surgery and be ready to get on the field as soon as possible."

Our View:Crabtree will have a pin inserted in his left foot and is expected to be on the shelf for 10 weeks while recovering. He was projected to be a top-5 draft pick, but he may now fall down draft boards.
February 24, 2009
Michael Crabtree has backed off from his earlier announcement that he will run the 40-yard dash at his scheduled pro day before having surgery on his left foot, according to the SportsTicker.

Our View:Most insiders believe that it is in Crabtree's best interest to get the surgery as soon as possible so that he will not miss any off-season workout time with the team that selects him.
February 24, 2009
Wideout Michael Crabtree may not run the 40-yard-dash and could work out earlier than his scheduled pro day, according to NFL.com.

Our View:Crabtree has a stress fracture in his foot that needs surgery, and if he waits until his pro day - March 26 - that doesn't leave much wiggle room if the foot takes longer to heal than originally thought.

Michael Crabtree has a stress fracture in his left foot, according to the Houston Chronicle. It was originally reported that he would need surgery to repair the injury, which would keep him out for 6-to-10 weeks, but the star prospect said that he's had the injury for about a year and that it hasn't affected him to this point. He will first run his 40 at his pro day and delay surgery until March 26th.

Our View:Crabtree could drop on a few boards due to this news, but he still has amazing potential and shouldn't be expected to fall out of the first round.

The Bears are very interested in Michael Crabtree, according to the Chicago Tribune. He met with three Bears officials at one time.

Our View:Crabtree certainly won't be around at number 18 when the Bears are slated to pick, so they would have to move up to get him. He's definitely a top 10 pick heading into the NFL Scouting Combine.
