November 21, 2009
The Associated Press reports that Sedrick Ellis did not travel with the Saints for their matchup against the Bucs and has been ruled out for Week 11.

Our View:Ellis has been dealing with a knee injury and hasn't played since Week 7, so it's no surprise that he didn't make the trip with the rest of the team. He's expected to return to practice next week, so he may be able to play in Week 12.

The National Football Post reports that defensive lineman Sedrick Ellis has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Rams.

Our View:Ellis has been dealing with a sprained right knee and was held out of practice this week, so it's no real surprise that he's been ruled out. He is, however, improving so expect him to have a good chance to play next week.

Saints' defensive lineman Sedrick Ellis was held out of practice again on Thursday due to his knee injury, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View:Coach Sean Payton seems confident that Ellis will be able to return soon, but it's not looking good for this week. We will continue to monitor his status, but the knee might not be ready for this week.

Sedrick Ellis did not practice on Wednesday, but coach Sean Payton sounded optimistic that Ellis could return to action soon, according to beat writer Jeff Duncan. "I'm somewhat optimistic and guarded that we might have him back (this week)," Payton said.

Our View:If Ellis were able to play this week, it would be a much earlier return than was expected. His knee has been improving greatly, but there's no reason to rush him back this week against the Rams.

Sedrick Ellis will 4-to-6 weeks with a sprained knee, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View:Schefter adds that even meeting that timeline "won't be easy." The Saints just got a little bit easier to run on.

NFL.com is reporting that the New Orleans Saints have officially ruled defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis out of Monday's game against the Falcons. Ellis is dealing with a knee injury.

Our View:This is a blow for the Saints, as they need as many of their players as possible heading into the huge Monday night game against the Falcons. They should be able to manage without him, but they would have liked to have him available.
October 30, 2009
Sedrick Ellis missed practice for the second straight day Friday while dealing with a knee injury, according to the Saints' official website.

Our View:The rising star may not be recovered in time to play on Monday night against stud rusher Michael Turner and the Falcons.

Sedrick Ellis did not practice today while dealing with a knee injury suffered in Week 7 against Miami, according to the Saints' official website.

Our View:There is belief that Ellis won't be recovered in time to play on Monday night against Atlanta. The young defensive tackle would be missed by New Orleans while trying to slow down stud rusher Michael Turner.
October 28, 2009
The New Orleans Times Picayune is reporting that Saints' defensive tackle Sedrick Ellis is unlikely to be available for Monday night's game against the Falcons due to a knee injury. Ellis left Sunday's game against Miami in the second quarter with the injury.

Our View:Head coach Sean Payton declined to give an update on Ellis, but it looks like he will be sidelined this week. He has made 15 tackles and one sack on the season, but the Saints will miss him in the middle of their line as they try to stop Falcons' running back Michael Turner.
October 25, 2009
Sedrick Ellis exited the game at Miami in the second quarter with an apparent lower leg injury.

Our View:Ellis had to be assisted off the field by the training staff before eventually heading to the locker room on a cart. No further information is currently available regarding the severity of the injury.
June 15, 2009
Sedrick Ellis is aiming to improve in his second pro campaign with the Saints, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Sean Payton expects Ellis to have a good season and the coach said, "To begin with, he is smart. He understands what we are doing. When you watch him, and you watch film of him, he is certainly focused on what we are doing. He's playing with confidence, and he gives us someone with explosion inside. He's doing well."

Our View:Ellis notched 31 tackles and four sacks as a rookie while missing three games due to injuries, and should improve in both areas in 2009, while under the direction of aggressive new defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Ellis is worth targeting as a sleeper for IDP leagues.
January 2, 2009
Sean Payton was pleased to see Saints defensive line coach Ed Orgeron leave for a job with Tennessee, as his dalliances with college jobs was seen as a distraction by Payton, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.

Our View:Payton was also not happy with the play of the defensive line. He is possibly interested in hiring Bill Johnson, who was with Denver last season, as line coach.
