The Bengals held Rashard Mendenhall to 13 carries for 36 yards in the Steelers' Week 10 loss.

Our View:Mendenhall continues to be the lead dog in this backfield, but the Bengals defense once again showed they are for real as they shut down all aspects of the Steelers attack. You shouldn't let this poor showing sour you on Mendenhall too much.

Rashard Mendenhall was an animal again on Monday night as the Steelers beat the Broncos in Denver by a score of 28-10. Mendenhall rushed for 155 yards on 17 carries in the game.

Our View:Mendenhall didn't find pay dirt tonight, but he was still outstanding. He averaged seven yards a carry on the night against a good defense, and he did not lose a fumble, which has been a bit of a problem this season. Medenhall has established himself as a very good back, and as long as they keep feeding him the ball he should be a solid fantasy option.

Rashard Mendenhall looked good in limited action in Sunday's 27-17 win over the Vikings at Heinz Field, as he bruised his way to 69 rushing yards on 10 carries, with a long of 17.

Our View:Mendenhall impressively averaged 6.9 yards per carry against a great Minnesota run defense, and is proving that coach Mike Tomlin made the right move annointing him the starting running back over Willie Parker. Fantasy owners should still be frustrated that he did not get to handle the pigskin more today.

Rashard Mendenhall is probable for Sunday's home game against Minnesota, according to SteelersDepot.com. He fully practiced for the second straight day Friday.

Our View:Mendenhall is nursing a knee ailment, but should be ready to go on game day. Head coach Mike Tomlin expects him to carry a normal workload as the Steelers' No. 1 back.
October 22, 2009
Rashard Mendenhall fully practiced Thursday, according to NFL.com. He was limited yesterday while dealing with a knee ailment.

Our View:The rising star is expected to carry a regular workload in Sunday's home game against Minnesota. He is averaging 5.1 yards per carry, which helped him pass Willie Parker on the depth chart as the No. 1 running back.
October 21, 2009
Rashard Mendenhall was limited during today's practice while nursing a knee ailment, according to NFL beat writer Sean Jensen's twitter page.

Our View:Mendenhall is just dealing with a bruise, and head coach Mike Tomlin expects him to handle a regular workload on Sunday against Minnesota. He has surpassed Willie Parker as the Steelers' No. 1 running back.
October 20, 2009
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports that coach Mike Tomlin has confirmed that Rashard Mendenhall has bypassed Willie Parker on the team's depth chart. "It's great to have Willie back, but Rashard has the hot hand if you will."

Our View:Mendenhall has started each of the last three games and has gathered 304 yards and four tourchdowns. Parker missed two games due to turf toe and should still see 7-12 touches per game.
October 18, 2009
Rashard Mendenhall carried the ball 17 times for 62 yards and a touchdown in the Week 6 victory over Cleveland.

Our View:Despite the return of Willie Parker (turf toe), Mendenhall still received 58 percent (17 of 29) of the carries allocated to the running backs. He has scored four touchdowns in the last three games, but the degree of difficulty spikes next week with Minnesota coming to the Steel City.
October 16, 2009
Rashard Mendenhall returned to practice on Friday after missing Thursday's session with an illness, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Mendenhall is expected to start this weekend against the Browns despite the fact that Willie Parker is returning to action.

Our View:The team has not planned any kind of specific rotation for the two backs this week, so Mendenhall will likely see plenty of work as long as he continues to produce. He should still be a good fantasy play this week, but you will want to keep an eye out for Parker taking carries over the next few weeks.
October 15, 2009
Jim Wexell reports via Twitter that running back Rashard Mendenhall missed Thursday's practice with the flu.

Our View:Mendenhall is expected to return to practice on Friday and it doesn't look like his start on Sunday is in jeopardy. He's been dynamic since snatching the number one job from Willie Parker, and as long as he's healthy he'll get the bulk of the carries once again.
October 11, 2009
Rashard Mendenhall rushed 15 times for 77 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 win over the Lions. He also caught two passes for 16 yards.

Our View:Mendenhall has looked great against two weak run defenses over the last two games, and he is building a strong case to at least share carries with Willie Parker once the starter is healthy.
October 6, 2009
Even though Willie Parker is expected to be very limited in practice this week with turf toe, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin wouldn't say that Rashard Mendenhall will start this Sunday against the Lions, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View:"We haven't pondered the division of labor to this point," was his official quote. However, two days after Mendenhall rushed for 165 yards, he also added "At this point, the ball's in Rashard's hands until we get further information in regards to Willie Parker." The smart money is on Mendenhall to be the feature back, whether Parker is "healthy" or not.
October 4, 2009
Rashard Mendenhall had a breakout game starting in place of the injured Willie Parker on Sunday. The second-year pro rushed for 165 yards on 29 carries, and punched it into the end-zone twice in the Steelers' 38-28 win over San Diego.

Our View:If this doesn't end the Willie Parker era in Pittsburgh, it's not clear what will. If you are a Parker owner, Mendenhall is an absolutely essential handcuff if he is still available.
October 3, 2009
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports that as expected Rashard Mendenhall will get the start on Sunday against the Chargers.

Our View:With Willie Parker ruled out because of turf toe, Mendenhall will finally get a chance to shine. Don't get too excited though as backfield receiving threat Mewelde Moore will get plenty of touches. Mendenhall isn't a great fantasy play for Week 4, but if you drafted him to handcuff Fast Willie at least you know he'll get some touches.
September 29, 2009
Rashard Mendenhall isn't likely to have any more zero-carry games going forward, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Our View:Mike Tomlin gave the second year pro no playing time last Sunday after he turned in a bad week of practice. Tomlin said the issued is resolved, however, and that since he doesn't have a doghouse, Mendenhall isn't in it. The Steelers' running back job was there for the taking for Mendenhall after Willie Parker struggled mightily early on, but Parker went for 93 yards against the Bengals on Sunday, and should have a grip on the job for at least the next several weeks.
September 28, 2009
According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Steelers' running back Rashard Mendenhall did not get a single carry in Sunday's game against the Bengals. Coach Mike Tomlin said he chose not to play Mendenhall due to the running back's poor week of practice leading up to the game.

Our View:There had been plenty of speculation leading up to this week that Mendenhall could overtake Willie Parker as the team;s starting running back, but his bad practices killed any chance he had. Parker had a nice game yesterday, so his job is plenty safe until Mendenhall gets out of Tomlin's dog house.
September 23, 2009
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that Steelers' running back Rashard Mendenhall could start to see more carries as the season goes on. The team wants to better establish their running game, and Willie Parker is not getting the job done.

Our View:Mendenhall has been much-maligned in his short NFL career, but he showed last week that he has the talent and explosiveness to be a featured back in this league. With "Fast Willie Parker" looking more like "Moderate Speed Willie Parker" so far this season, expect Mendenhall to start seeing more work out of the backfield.
September 6, 2009
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review is reporting that Steelers' running back Rashard Mendenhall isn't going to take carries away from Willie Parker this season. Parker is going to be the team's featured back as long as he stays healthy.

Our View:While many teams are employing the two-back system, the Steelers have no plans to take carries away from Parker. All is not lost for Mendenhall, however, as Parker has had trouble staying healthy in recent years. He is probably not worth drafting in most leagues, but if Parker goes down you should jump on Mendenhall ASAP.
August 29, 2009
Getting the start as Willie Parker sat out with injury, Rashard Mendenhall rushed 16 times for just 48 yards on Saturday night.

Our View:Mendenhall hasn't exactly seized the day as Parker has dealt with injury this preseason, and is an average handcuff at best.
August 28, 2009
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that Steelers' running back Rashard Mendenhall is likely to start the team's preseason game on Saturday against the Bills in place of Willie Parker, who has been out of practice all week with a hamstring injury. Mendenhall was the team's first-round pick last year, but missed the season with a broken shoulder blade.

Our View:The Steelers still aren't exactly sure what they have in Mendenhall, so it is probably a good thing that they will get an extended look at him this weekend. It may only be a preseason game, but it could go a long way in determining his role with the team this season. Anyone who owns Mendenhall or is thinking about drafting him will want to pay attention to how he performs against the Bills tomorrow.
August 16, 2009
The Beaver County Times is reporting that Steelers' running back Rashard Mendenhall was held out of practice Saturday due to a thigh contusion. He is expected to return to practice on Sunday.

Our View:Mendenhall sat out as a precaution yesterday, and he is expected to go full speed today. He needs as many reps as he can get, because by all accounts he has struggled thus far at camp.
August 13, 2009
According to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Steelers' running back Rashard Mendenhall has looked very ordinary in training camp this season. The team believes he is an enigma, and they don't know for sure what they have in him yet.

Our View:Mendenhall may be a little behind the progress of most second-year players since he missed most of last season, but the Steelers will need him to be ready to play this season, especially considering that the injury-prone Willie Parker is already banged up. Mendenhall will have to impress in the preseason games to prove to the team that he can handle the load if called upon.
June 21, 2009
Steelers' offensive coordinator Bruce Arians believes that Rashard Mendenhall has matured while heading into his second pro campaign, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Our View:Mendenhall will see plenty of action if healthy this season while complementing Willie Parker in the Steelers' ground attack. He is worth targeting as a handcuff for Parker, and is also worth stashing in keeper leagues as he could emerge as a starter down the road.
April 20, 2009
Rashard Mendenhall practiced with the Steelers Monday, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He has been recovering from a broken shoulder blade that ended his 2008 campaign.

Our View:Mendenhall is expected to be fully recovered this season, and will resume his role as Willie Parker's primary backup at running back.
February 20, 2009
Rashard Mendenhall is ahead of schedule in his recovery from a broken shoulder blade, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He believes he could have returned in the final month of the regular if not placed on injured reserve.

Our View:He is expected to have a full recovery, and make more of an impact in his second season in 2009 while serving as a complement to Willie Parker in the Steelers' ground attack.
January 31, 2009
Rookie running back Rashard Mendenhall, who broke his shoulder in September, is healed to the point where he would be able to practice and play if he wasn't on IR, accoridng to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:Mendenhall got 19 carries on the year before the Baltimore defense ended his year. He wasn't impressive in his rookie campaign, but fantasy owners shouldn't forget about him as a mid-round pick.
