Pierre Thomas carried the ball 13 times for 50 yards and a touchdown in the Saints 30-20 win over the Panthers in Week 9.

Our View:Thomas also hauled in five passes for and additional 31 yards in the game. It appears the Saints are trying to get him more involved in the offense as he got the bulk of the carries in this one. Mike Bell had just five opportunities to run the ball and only mustered 17 yards, so it looks as if Thomas is pulling ahead in the split duty situation. He now has three touchdowns in the last two weeks and should continue to get the majority of the red zone looks.
November 2, 2009
Pierre Thomas ran for 91 yards on 14 carries on Monday in the Saints' 35-27 win over the Falcons. Thomas scored once on the ground and also added a touchdown on one of his two receptions.

Our View:The Thomas-Bell conundrum continues to trouble fantasy owners, as Thomas ran for 42 more yards despite three less carries. Both players' values are going to be limited while sharing carries, but Thomas still looks like the better option because of his red zone capabilities.
October 25, 2009
Pierre Thomas gained just 30 yards off eight carries on Sunday, compared to Mike Bell's 80 off of 12.

Our View:Bell has been the bane of Thomas' fantasy owners' existence, and it doesn't look like he'll be fazed out anytime soon. Bell also received New Orleans' goal-line carries, and Thomas owners had to be happy that Bell didn't convert. Still, this situation looks to be in full-blown platoon mode, with Reggie Bush remaining in the mix as well, so temper your expectations for Thomas going forward.
October 18, 2009
Pierre Thomas looked good in Sunday's 48-27 win over the Giants at the Superdome, as he racked up 72 rushing yards on 15 carries, with a long of 25. Mike Bell also had 15 carries for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Our View:Thomas proved he is capable of being a solid fantasy running back, if the Saints will just feature him and give him a larger workload. Bell's two-yard touchdown had to be frustrating for fantasy owners of Thomas.
October 15, 2009
According to Jeff Duncan on Twitter, Saints running back Pierre Thomas was limited in practice on Thursday.

Our View:Thomas is dealing with a hamstring injury, but is still expected to play on Sunday. He has yet to practice in full this week, but Friday could be the day. If it isn't his workload would likely be limited and he'd cede carries to Mike Bell.
October 7, 2009
Pierre Thomas will attempt to play without a knee brace for this time this season when the Saints return from their bye week in Week 6 , according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View:He has rushed for 212 yards the past two weeks while wearing the brace, which he said has bothered him, so who knows how productive he could be without one. The Saints will be playing the Giants and their stout run defense, however, so it's anybody's guess how many yards he will go for.
October 4, 2009
Pierre Thomas carried the ball 19 times for 86 yards on Sunday, as the Saints improved to 4-0 with a 24-10 victory over the Jets.

Our View:He also added four receptions for 46 yards. After carrying the ball zero times in the season's first two weeks, Thomas has now rushed for 212 yards and three scores the past two weeks. Mike Bell could take some carries away once he returns from injury, but it's clear Thomas is the Saints' feature back.
September 27, 2009
Pierre Thomas had a big fourth quarter for the Saints in Week 3, and he ended up with 14 carries for 126 yards and two touchdowns.

Our View:Reggie Bush and Lynell Hamilton were both in the starting lineup, and Hamilton scored an early touchdown. The Saints pulled out Thomas in the second half, and he dominated the Bills. Thomas' role could grow as his knee moves closer to 100 percent.
September 25, 2009
Pierre Thomas (knee) is probable for Week 3, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View:He will play. Whether or not it is as Mike Bell's primary fill-in remains to be seen, however.
September 24, 2009
Pierre Thomas (sprained knee) says he is ready to play and contribute in Week 3, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View:He played just one snap against the Eagles last weekend, and says he was bothered by a balky brace on his injured knee. He plans on wearing a smaller brace this Sunday, but will still likely serve as Lynell Hamilton's back-up.
September 23, 2009
Pierre Thomas practiced fully for the Saints on Wednesday, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Thomas missed Week 1 and played sparingly in Week 2 due to a sprained MCL.

Our View:With Mike Bell not practicing today, the Saints could really use Thomas this weekend. Coach Sean Payton wouldn't comment on Thomas's status for the weekend, but his full participation has to be a good sign.
September 22, 2009
Saints' beat writer Adam Caplan is reporting on his Twitter page that running back Pierre Thomas will likely be limited in carries if he is available to play in the team's Week 3 game. Thomas has been sidelined for the first two weeks of the season with a knee injury.

Our View:With Mike Bell going down last weekend, the Saints are hoping Thomas will be good to go for Week 3. He figures to play, but Caplan warns that he can't handle a heavy workload at this point. Expect Reggie Bush to see a majority of the carries, and you should also be ready for Drew Brees to air it out even more than usual.
September 20, 2009
While John Czarnecki (FOX Sports) stated that Pierre Thomas will likely be inactive for today's game against the Eagles, John Clayton of ESPN states that he is warming up and expects to play. Michael Fabiano also tweeted that Thomas will be active.

Our View:Thomas missed Week 1 with a knee injury, so his production looks to be limited if deemed fit to play, especially against a good Eagles' defense on their home turf.
September 20, 2009
Pierre Thomas (knee) figures to be an inactive because the Saints don't want to rush him back, while Reggie Bush is feeling better and should be ready for 12-15 touches, according to FOX Sports' John Czarnecki.

Our View:We will know for certain when the inactive lists come out later, but it appears that Mike Bell and Bush will share the load for another week for the Saints.
September 19, 2009
The New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that Saints' running back Pierre Thomas will be a game-time decision for Sunday's game against the Eagles. Thomas has been dealing with a knee injury.

Our View:The Saints won't release his status until tomorrow, but fantasy owners should sit Thomas unless you don't have another option. Even if he does play, Thomas likely won't get any carries behind Reggie Bush and Mike Bell.
September 18, 2009
The New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that Saints' running back Pierre Thomas practiced on a limited basis again on Friday. Thomas has been listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Our View:Thomas said earlier this week that he would be ready to go, but Saints' beat writer Mike Triplett doesn't believe he will. If Thomas does suit up, he won't be carrying the load with Mike Bell and Reggie Bush both healthy.
September 17, 2009
According to his own Twitter account, Pierre Thomas (knee) tweeted that he's ready to play this Sunday.

Our View:His exact words were "I'm full go Sunday baby! Lets get it!" Sounds like he's amped up to play, but his carries will likely be limited as the Saints ease him back into action. Mike Bell is still probably a better play, but all three Saints backs will get some carries Sunday.
September 16, 2009
Pierre Thomas (knee) fully participated in Saints practice on Wednesday, according to Jeff Duncan of the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View:However, Duncan, a Saints beat writer, does not believe that he will play this Sunday, and even went so far as to say "if I'm a fantasy football coach, I would sit him." Mike Bell looks like the better option for Week 2.
September 15, 2009
The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that even if Pierre Thomas (knee) plays this weekend, Mike Bell will see a good number of carries after his 28 carry, 143 yard performance in Week 1.

Our View:Not good news for Thomas owners, though there had been rumors this could be the case even before he got injured. Consider Bell an absolutely essential handcuff if you own Thomas.
September 14, 2009
Saints' running back Pierre Thomas told beat writer Jeff Duncan that he will be playing this week. Thomas was out of Week 1 with a knee injury.

Our View:Thomas probably watched Mike Bell put together another great showing yesterday and decided he needs to get back on the field if he wants to get his share of carries. Bell should still get a heavy workload this week even if Thomas does play, but Thomas figures to get his opportunities as well when he returns.
September 13, 2009
Week 1 inactives: RB, Pierre Thomas, OT Jammal Brown, S Usama Young, WR Rod Harper, TE Darnell Dinkins, C Nick Leckey, DT Remi Ayodele, and LB Jonathan Casillas.

Our View:Mike Bell will start in place of Pierre Thomas, and should handle the brunt of the rushing workload. Also, Jeremy Shockey (ankle) will start, and should see plenty of targets.
September 11, 2009
Pierre Thomas (knee) has been officially ruled out for the team's Week 1 game against the Lions, according to NFL.com's Adam Caplan.

Our View:Mike Bell will take over his role of goal-line back and between-the-tackles runner. Reggie Bush will be in on passing downs. If you were going to start Thomas this weekend, Bell is a more than ample substitute.
September 10, 2009
Pierre Thomas participated in the early part of practice on Thursday, according to the Twitter page of Saints' beat writer Jeff Duncan. Thomas is still doubtful for Sunday's game.

Our View:Thomas said he wanted to practice today and play on Sunday, so he got the first part of his plan done today. We still doubt he plays Sunday, so you should probably sit him until he gets fully ready to go.
September 10, 2009
According to the Twitter page of Saints' beat writer Jeff Duncan, running back Pierre Thomas is still hoping to play on Sunday. Thomas told the media that he will attempt to practice on Thursday and if he is able, then he will play on Sunday.

Our View:We aren't buying this one either. Thomas is still hurting pretty badly from the sprained MCL and from the injury he sustained while rescuing his dog from his neighbor's yard. Expect him to sit this weekend, and if he does play it will be in a very limited capacity.
September 9, 2009
Saints beat writer Jeff Duncan reports via Twitter that he would rule running back Pierre Thomas "out" for Sunday's game against the Lions.

Our View:The official word will come later today, but Thomas did not dress for practice and has been dealing with a sprained MCL. With all signs pointing to him being out, Reggie Bush and Mike Bell will likely split the carries against a miserable Lions run defense. Both should be employed in starting lineups for Week 1.
September 7, 2009
Pierre Thomas was seen walking with a limp in the Saints' locker room Monday, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. He is dealing with a sprained MCL, and also suffered a cut from a fence which required stitches.

Our View:The source states that his chances of being ready for Week 1 against Detroit are looking slim. Reggie Bush and Mike Bell would handle the workload at running back if he is forced to miss the season opener.
September 4, 2009
According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Saints' running back Pierre Thomas is questionable for the season opener due to his sprained MCL. Thomas is going to split carries this season with Reggie Bush and Mike Bell.

Our View:Thomas really needs to get on the field, because too much missed time will give Bush and Bell a chance to shine. Thomas still figures to be the team's goal-line threat when he returns, but he is hurting his chances of being an every down back while he is out.
August 27, 2009
Right on the heels of the news that Pierre Thomas could have his carries limited by Mike Bell this season, coach Sean Payton announced on Thursday that the running back is likely to miss the rest of the Saints preseason with a sprained MCL, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Our View:The team said it expects him to be fully recovered for Week 1, but he is looking more and more like someone you should not be counting on to help carry your running game in 2009.
August 26, 2009
Pro Football Talk reports that the Saints could be using a "three-headed monster" at running back this season, giving Reggie Bush, Pierre Thomas and Mike Bell all a good number of carries.

Our View:While this doesn't figure to hurt the reception-heavy Bush's fantasy value too much, a good number of carries for Mike Bell is not good news for Thomas owners, especially since Saints coach Sean Payton also insinuated that Bell will be their goal-line back this season.
August 26, 2009
According to the Twitter page of Saints' beat writer Jeff Duncan, running back Pierre Thomas is not practicing on Wednesday due to his sprained MCL. Duncan reports that Thomas looks "pretty gimpy" on his right knee.

Our View:The injury is not expected to be all that serious, but this news is still a bit concerning. Thomas has been listed as a sleeper so many times this offseason that he is losing his sleeper status, but if this injury keeps him out for some time it could hurt fantasy owners who jumped on him early. We will keep you up to date on his status.
August 24, 2009
Pierre Thomas has a sprained MCL, according to Adam Caplan's (Scout.com) twitter page.

Our View:Saints' head coach Sean Payton noted that the injury is nothing significant, and Thomas appears to be day-to-day. He should continue to be targeted as a sleeper in fantasy leagues.
August 7, 2009
Pierre Thomas could be used out of the wildcat formation this season, according to WWLTV Louisiana.

Our View:This could add a nice new wrinkle to his fantasy value if the Saints decide to implement it. He'll be splitting carries with Reggie Bush, but did have nine touchdowns in 2008, and could wind up getting the lion's share of the carries, as the team figures to utilize Bush more often in the passing game.
June 7, 2009
According to Profootballtalk.com, Pierre Thomas injured his left wrist in Saturday's practice and sat out on Sunday.

Our View:Thomas will proceed with caution the rest of the offseason. He injured the same wrist in Week 15 last year and it required surgery. Thomas described the recent injury: "It feels a lot better since yesterday. Yesterday as soon as I took that shot, I was in excruciating pain. I hurried up and grabbed it and my whole arm went numb."
May 22, 2009
The New Orleans Times-Picayune is reporting that Pierre Thomas has added more than ten pounds of bulk and he now weighs approximately 220 pounds.

Our View:Thomas was the Saints' most consistent rusher last season, and now that he has added size he could be very valuable as a short yardage back this season. Look for Thomas late on draft day as a back who could be a steal.
April 23, 2009
Pierre Thomas does not mind that the Saints are considering adding a running back in the upcoming draft, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. Thomas said, "I think I really proved myself, that I can be a No. 1 back. Hopefully, (the way he finished the season) really got to them also, that they can put me as that No. 1 guy. That is what my thoughts are going into the season, but I am still going to work hard."

Our View:Thomas has earned a chance to be the Saints' No. 1 back after averaging 4.8 yards over 129 rushing attempts in 2008. But his carries could still be limited as a starter even if the club doesn't add more competition in the draft, as Reggie Bush is expected to handle a larger workload in the running game.
February 19, 2009
According to NFL.com, Saints running back Pierre Thomas could be on his way out of New Orleans. Head coach Sean Payton said Thursday that the Saints are looking to add a big, physical back either through the draft or free agency to complement Reggie Bush's speed. The fact that Payton did not make any mention of finding that player on his current roster implies Thomas will not be the starting running back in 2009, as was originally thought.

Our View:By no means does this mean Thomas will leave New Orleans, but the thought of seeking employment elsewhere will likely creep into his mind if the Saints decide to take a high-profile back in the draft or via free agency, either of which might bury him on the depth chart.
January 11, 2009
The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports that Saints GM Mickey Loomis feels that Pierre Thomas could be the team's starting tailback next season.

Our View:Reggie Bush is not an every down back, and he is used as a receiver on many downs. Thomas was a bit of a surprise this season, with limited appearances in 15 games. He averaged 4.8 yards per carry and found his way into the end zone 12 times, including three times off of passes.
