Newsbreakers
November 8, 2009
Matt Ryan was quiet in today's 31-17 win over Washington at the Georgia Dome, as he completed 17-of-24 passes for 135 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Our View:Ryan managed to snap the Falcons' two-game losing streak, but was not an asset for fantasy owners today. He only threw one touchdown pass in each of his last two games.
November 3, 2009
Matt Ryan has thrown seven interceptions in the Falcons' past three games.

Our View:Unshockingly, the Falcons are 1-2 in those games after beginning the season 3-1. With the team taking on the Redskins in Week 9, expect Ryan to get his accuracy back under control, and for the Falcons to get their season back on track.
November 2, 2009
Matt Ryan struggled for the second straight week on Monday as the Falcons fell to the Saints 35-27. Ryan completed just 19 of his 42 passes for 289 yards while tossing one touchdown and three interceptions.

Our View:Ryan now has six turnovers in his last two games compared to only three touchdowns. He was good at times tonight, but overall this was a disappointing performance. Expect him to bounce back next time out, as he is too talented to continue to struggle.

Matt Ryan wasn't his sharpest against Dallas on Sunday, going 19-of-35 for 198 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions. Ryan also fumbled twice, losing one of them.

Our View:Ryan was pressured by DeMarcus Ware all game long and ended up turning the ball over three times. No need to worry here, as Ryan should continue to post pretty solid numbers and be a fine start for most fantasy teams.

Matt Ryan wasn't the best fantasy performer on Sunday night, but he led his team to the all-important "W" over the Bears.

Our View:Ryan was 19-of-33 for 185 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions in the contest. He found his favorite targets Roddy White and Tony Gonzalez in the end zone once again even though the offense never really got on track. Next week against the Cowboys should much easier for him.

Matt Ryan was in control in Sunday's 45-10 win at San Francisco, as he completed 22-of-32 passes for 329 yards, with two touchdowns and an interception. He also scored a touchdown on a one-yard run.

Our View:The rising star bounced back today after failing to throw a touchdown pass in his last game against New England (Week 3). He reached 300 passing yards for the third time in his career, and 329 yards today set a new high.

Matt Ryan was in control in Sunday's 28-20 win over the Panthers at the Georgia Dome, as he completed 21-of-27 passes for 220 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception.

Our View:The rising star threw an interception, but will be forgiven as he had a great game while leading Atlanta to a 2-0 mark. He does not look to suffer from a sophomore slump while coming off a solid rookie campaign.

Quarterback Matt Ryan completed 22-of-26 pass for 226 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 1 victory over Miami.

Our View:Ryan spread the ball around to his running backs, wide receivers and tight ends, displaying an excellent grasp of reading his progressions early in the season. He looks like a legitimate No. 1 fantasy option, especially at home where he faces the Carolina Panthers next week.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Matt Ryan took part in the Falcons Wednesday morning walk-through.

Our View:Ryan left Monday's practice with an illness, but, as expected, he is fine now. He will be ready to take on the Dolphins on Sunday and should be employed in all fantasy leagues.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting that Falcons' quarterback Matt Ryan was sent home from practice on Monday due to an unspecified illness. Ryan is not expected to miss any serious time with the illness.

Our View:The team didn't say exactly what was wrong with him, but coach Mike Smith didn't sound too concerned. Expect Ryan to be back to practice soon, and he should be just fine to play this weekend.

Matt Ryan completed 7-of-8 passes against the Rams Friday, good for 81 yards and touchdown.

Our View:Ryan hit new tight end Tony Gonzalez with a 14-yard TD and looked on top of his game. The Falcons offense looks to have officially arrived with Ryan at the helm. He hit last year's favorite target Roddy White with three passes and added three to possible 2009 favorite, Gonzalez. Ryan will be a fine QB choice in fantasy drafts this season.

NFL.com is reporting that Falcons' quarterback Matt Ryan has improved greatly in the offseason. Fullback Ovie Mughelli told the website Ryan has grown "by leaps and bounds" and went on to say that "It's actually scary how much he's improved and it's only his second year. People thought he couldn't get much better than last year."

Our View:Ryan was really good last season, so if he has improved at all he will be great in 2009. Factor in the addition of Tony Gonzalez to weapons that already include Roddy White and Michael Turner, and we could be looking at a huge fantasy season for Ryan.

Atlanta Falcons president Rich McKay, who doubles as the co-chairman of the NFL competition committee, said Wednesday the group needs to discuss making changes to the league's overtime rules, the Associated Press reports. "Sudden death is a good procedure. It's fun and everyone knows the rules," McKay said. "I would like to see the stats change because I don't like the fact that the team winning the coin flip now wins 60 percent of the time, and the team winning the flip, 40-plus percent of the time, wins it on the first possession."

Our View:Though the lack of a formal committee proposal means rule changes will not likely happen in 2009, one of the modifications suggested was moving kickoffs up from the 30-yard line, so as to prevent from long returns that set up short game-winning drives in overtime.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that former Falcons defensive tackle Shane Dronett was found dead in his Atlanta-area home early Wednesday morning. According to reports, Gwinnett County police responded to a 911 suicide call at 7:30 a.m.

Our View:The cause of death is not yet known and a medical examiner's report could be available as soon as Thursday. Dronett, who was a member of the Falcons' 1998 Super Bowl team, was drafted by Denver in 1992 and spent an abbreviated stint in Detroit before reuniting with ex-Broncos head coach Dan Reeves in Atlanta in 1996.

The Arizona Cardinals got great jumps on rookie Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan not only because he didn't vary the snap count, but because the Cardinals noticed the signal-caller raised a heel before the snap, according to the Arizona Republic.

Our View:Nice job by the Cardinals to pick that up. The team had a few offsides penalties, but were getting noticeably good jumps off the line all day.
January 3, 2009
Rookie Matt Ryan struggled in Saturday's 30-24 loss to the Cardinals, as he completed 26-of-40 passes for 199 yards with two touchdown passes and two interceptions. He was sacked three times, one of which resulted in a safety.

Our View:The Offensive Rookie of the Year was rattled in the desert in his first playoff game, but has a bright future ahead of him and the Falcons are on the rise.
