Darrelle Revis returned to practice with the Jets today, according to NFL.com.
Revis ended his summer-long holdout late on Sunday night. He's expected to start against the Ravens on Monday. While he may be a bit rusty, we still do not envy Anquan Boldin and company.
Of the $32 million in guarantees in Darrelle Revis' new contract with the Jets, $7.5 million will come in 2010, with another $18 million of it will coming as a roster bonus before the 2011 season, according to ESPN's Rich Cimini.
He'll have a base of $7 million in 2011, $7.5 million in 2012 and $6 million in 2013. Mission accomplished for New York's elite defensive back.
The Jets and Darrelle Revis have finally agreed upon a deal, according to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta.
The deal is apparently worth $46 million over four years with $32 million guaranteed, and so ends the lengthy holdout of arguably the league's best cornerback. While Revis may not be in top form right away, he's still expected to be on the field in the Jets' Week 1 matchup against the Ravens next Monday night. Knowing that Revis will indeed be in uniform solidifies the Jets as the top defensive unit in the league.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan met with Darrelle Revis in Florida this weekend, according to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta.
While no deal is imminent, it's nice to hear that the two sides are still communicating. Both sides will continue to work toward an agreement this week. While we certainly do not expect Revis to be on the field on Monday night against Baltimore, we're not writing him off just yet.
Searching for holdout cornerback Darrelle Revis in his hometown of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, ESPN's Rich Cimini got lengthy comments from his grandmother about his contract situation. "Darrelle does what he does because he loves it," she began. "For this to be happening to him, it's almost like a slap in the face, because he's not appreciated. I know he wants to play, but Darrelle understands contract negotiations. Some players don't get it, but Darrelle can read a contract. I think he's comfortable with his decision (to hold out) because he knows what he was told by the Jets and he knows what he's worth." She finished, "people are trying to portray him as greedy, but he has outperformed his contract. For them to put him in this position is just unreal."
The Jets' hardball strategy is clearly beginning to unravel, as it is widely believed they did not believe Revis would dig in this deep. Their chances of winning the AFC East without him are remote.
AOL Fanhouse reports that talks between Darrelle Revis's agents and the Jets continue to progress and that both sides believe a deal will be done before Week 1.
That would mean a deal would have to be struck in the next week and a half. We remain skeptical that such an agreement will be made when both sides are reportedly so far off in their demands, though it at least remains a possibility.
The Jets are currently not even talking to Darrelle Revis and his agent, according to Pro Football Talk.
As the season fast approaches, it doesn't sound like the two sides are anywhere close to reaching a deal. Revis holds steady with his demands to get back a large sum of guaranteed money, and the Jets have shown no willingness to cave.
Speaking to NFL.com's Steve Wyche on Wednesday, Jets owner Woody Johnson characterized the Darrelle Revis situation as "status quo."
So much for those "a deal will get done on Wednesday" reports. Just like last week, there is no end in sight to this saga.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets and disgruntled cornerback Darrelle Revis did not meet on Tuesday night.
Meaning, they almost certainly did not finalize the details of a new deal. A lot is going to have to happen today if the widespread prediction that a Wednesday accord will be reached is going to come to fruition.
Dan Graziano of FanHouse is reporting that Darrelle Revis and the Jets are "almost there" in talks to work out a new contract.
Graziano's "source close to the situation" says that the extension could be agreed upon "in the coming days." Revis's holdout has been much publicized, and the team has remained silent lately, but he'll obviously make a huge impact on this defense if he returns. Not to mention the fact that rookie Kyle Wilson has been given invaluable first-team reps while Revis has been out. This pass defense could be even better, believe it or not, with Revis, Wilson and Antonio Cromartie.
The Jets are staying mum about rumors that they are nearing a contract agreement with disgruntled cornerback Darrelle Revis, according to the New York Daily News.
Speculation is running rampant that the two sides will announce an end to their impasse on Wednesday. Considering how much is on the line, such a scenario is very likely.
Darrelle Revis and the New York Jets appear to be $40 million apart in talks revolving around a 10-year contract, according to the NY Daily News. The Jets have apparently offered a 10-year, $120 million deal with guaranteed money likely to fall in the $25-30 million range.
How Revis thinks the offer on the table isn't fair is beyond us. How he thinks he should get a deal for $160 million is even crazier. It doesn't sound like this situation is going to be resolved any point soon.
According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, Jets owner Woody Johnson says there has been "no progress" in contract talks with Darrelle Revis.
Johnson said there was no news to report on the Revis front, and the team hasn't heard anything different. Earlier today the Jets admitted that they were preparing as if Revis wouldn't participate this season, and he's apparently still upset over the total compensation of the offered deals, not the guaranteed portion.
The Jets appear to be bracing for a potential lengthy holdout from Darrelle Revis, according to ESPN.com. "We're going to prepare like he's not going to be here," coach Rex Ryan said on Monday morning.
Revis has three years left on his current contract but wants a big money contract before he heads back out on the field. We'll have to wait and see if either side budges.
Darrelle Revis's agent says that his client won't report to camp until the Jets redo his contract, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN New York.
Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum claims that the Jets made numerous offers to Revis over the past three days, but apparently none were satisfactory in the eyes of the NFL's best corner. Revis seems pretty stubborn here, and this holdout could extend well into camp or even into the season.
According to the New York Daily News, elite cornerback Darrelle Revis was a no-show for his Sunday morning conditioning test.
And so it begins. Making just $1 million after an extremely dominant 2009 season, Revis has all the leverage in negotiations with the Jets. Expect his holdout to be a short one, and for it to end with Gang Green backing down and paying their best player what he deserves.
According to NFL.com's Michael Lombardi, Darrelle Revis is not planning to holdout of Jets training camp this summer in an effort to land a new contract.
He will report on August 1, as he does not want to "jeopardize a future guarantee he already has in his present contract." Stay tuned.
According to the New York Daily News, Darrelle Revis is prepared to "hold out beyond August 10 and risk losing an accrued year toward free agency" if he is not given a new contract. The paper adds, "there's been no progress in the negotiations in the past few weeks."
Not good news for a team thinking "Super Bowl or bust" this season. Expect someone to stand down before August 10, however.
The Jets have been discussing a contract extension for Darrelle Revis and may be willing to hand him the most lucrative contract ever for a defensive back, according to Newsday.
The Jets also have a number of other players to discuss regarding possible extensions, including D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Nick Mangold and David Harris. In Revis' case, it's nice to hear that they're at least open to getting a deal done.
Darrelle Revis and Jets head coach Rex Ryan met one-on-one on Tuesday night and apparently had a "great talk", according to ESPN.com.
It's nice to hear that Revis and Ryan are on good terms, though it's still unclear what Revis plans to do in terms of a potential holdout. Stay tuned.
One day after pouting his way through OTAs, Jets cornebrack Darrelle Revis said on Tuesday that he wants to "be a Jet forever," according to the New York Daily News.
He is set to meet with head coach Rex Ryan later in the afternoon. The million dollar question in New York this summer is, will Revis report to training camp on time? We should have a good idea of his intentions within the next few weeks.
Darrelle Revis was "going full speed at positional drills" at Jets OTAs on Tuesday morning, according to the New York Daily News.
So no "light-headedness" for New York's superstar cornerback this morning. Do not expect his Monday protest to be an isolated incident this summer.
According to the Associated Press, All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis "sat out some plays during practice Monday in protest of his stalled (contract) negotiations."
Ohh boy. This one is getting uglier much faster than most assumed it would. If Revis doesn't have a new contract come training camp time, he should be fully expected to sit out.
Darrelle Revis said that he's seriously about holding out this offseason if he doesn't get a contract extension, according to the New York Post's Bart Hubbuch.
Revis said that he wants to make 50 cents more than Nnamdi Asomugha so that he'd be the highest-paid cornerback in the league. Asomugha is earning an average of $16.2 million per year on his current contract, and it remains to be seen if the Jets are willing to fork over that type of money.
Darrelle Revis showed up to the Jets' OTAs on Tuesday, according to the New York Daily News' Manish Mehta.
Revis was absent from team activities last week in the midst of a short holdout, so it's nice to see him back with the Jets. He desires a new contract, but it looks like he won't be holding out in order to get it.
NFL.com's Jason La Canfora "would not be surprised if Darrelle Revis isn't around Jets headquarters for a while."
That does not sound good. One of the few players angling for a new contract this offseason that actually has leverage, Revis will likely have a new deal in hand before he next steps on the practice field.
In a troubling development for the Jets, all-world cornerback Darrelle Revis was a no-show at OTAs on Thursday because he's "unhappy with his contractual situation," according to the New York Daily News.
The last thing the Jets needed. After his incredible 2009 season, however, they are going to have little choice but to pay him if he holds out of training camp this summer.
According to ESPN, Darrelle Revis' contract extension could net the elite defensive back $16-to-$17 million per season.
That's less than the $20 million some had speculated, but still an amazing haul for a relatively young breakout star. Revis is going to be under a tremendous amount of pressure in 2010 to repeat his utterly dominant 2009 campaign.
According to the Newark Star-Ledger, all-world cornerback Darrelle Revis and the Jets are working on a contract extension.
Revis' 2009 dominance was well-documented, and it should only be a matter of time before Gang Green ensures its franchise player will be in New York long-term.
There is "buzz" at this week's scouting combine that the Jets are nearing a contract extension with lockdown cornerback Darrelle Revis, according to the New York Daily News' Rich Cimini.
Obviously, few in the NFL are more deserving of a richer deal than Revis. For now, though, the "buzz" sounds like mostly speculation. Stay tuned.
According to the New York Post, in an "intense" team meeting on Saturday night, Jets head coach Rex Ryan told his team they are better than their opponent in Sunday's AFC Championship game, the Indianapolis Colts.
While the Jets are of course not better than the Colts on paper, there is no doubt they are currently the NFL's most dangerous team, and they very much could win the American Football Conference on Sunday. Were they to do so, it would be one of the more ironic victories in NFL history, since had the Colts not all but quit on the two teams' Week 16 meeting, they likely would have won and New York would have missed the playoffs.
Darrelle Revis is being examined by team trainers for a cramp, according to the Jets' official twitter page.
The Chargers could catch a break if the shutdown cornerback is slowed by the ailment or forced to miss time.
Darrelle Revis is "not pleased" about losing the NFL's defensive player of the year award to Green Bay's Charles Woodson, according to Sports Illustrated's Peter King.
The elite corner will surely be using the "snub" as motivation heading into New York's Sunday Divisional round showdown with the Chargers. Big things should not be expected out of the Bolts' Vincent Jackson.
