Calvin Johnson compiled eight receptions for 84 yards in the Week 10 loss at Minnesota.

Our View:This was the first solid performance by Calvin since he hurt his knee in Week 5 against Pittsburgh. It's nice to see him get off the schnide, but overall it has been a disappointing season for Johnson owners.
November 11, 2009
Calvin Johnson (knee) was a full participant in Lions practice on Wednesday, according to the team.

Our View:Johnson's knee is finally healthy, now he just just needs to get on track. In the final eight games of the season, he very well may double his first eight games catch total of 24.
November 9, 2009
mLive.com is reporting that the rift between Lions' receiver Calvin Johnson and quarterback Matt Stafford is not an issue for the team. Johnson and Stafford had a sideline exchange captured on camera in Sunday's loss.

Our View:Johnson walked away from Stafford as the rookie quarterback tried to say something, but both players maintained that it was nothing to be concerned about. It was likely just a heat of the moment thing, so this shouldn't be anything for owners to be concerned about.
November 8, 2009
Calvin Johnson caught just two passes for 27 yards in his return to the lineup on Sunday.

Our View:Johnson hasn't played since Week 5, and he only managed one catch for two yards in that game, so he has essentially been nonexistent since he racked up 133 yards against the Bears in Week 4. Magatron's balky knee has transformed him from one of the top receivers on draft day to one of the season's most disappointing.
November 8, 2009
Calvin Johnson will start for the Lions today, according to Chris Mortensen's (ESPN) twitter page.

Our View:Johnson has been nursing a knee ailment, but has been given the green light to play. He will try to do some damage against the Seahawks, who are ranked 18th in pass defense.
November 6, 2009
Calvin Johnson (knee) practiced for the third straight day on Friday, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:Barring a setback, he will play on Sunday against the Seahawks.
November 6, 2009
ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that "vibes from Detroit feel like (Calvin Johnson) probably returns to lineup" this Sunday.

Our View:Officially he's a game-time decision, but it looks like he's finally over his knee injury enough to play after sitting out the past two games. Have an alternative just in case, but be ready to play Johnson on Sunday.
November 5, 2009
Detroit Lions' wide receiver Calvin Johnson practiced for the second straight day on Thursday, according to mLive.com. Johnson is likely to play for the team this week.

Our View:Johnson has now practiced for two straight days, so it looks like he should be good to go. The team will likely call him a game-time decision this week, but owners should prepare to have him available this week.
November 4, 2009
According to MLive.com, star wideout Calvin Johnson (knee) practiced on Wednesday and worked out with the first team offense.

Our View:This is something that Johnson didn't do last week, so it bodes well for his potential return in Week 9. He has missed the last two games with a knee injury, and while he did participate in all the individual drills (and looked good), he will still likely be a game-time decision on Sunday.
November 3, 2009
Calvin Johnson (knee) is nearing his return to the gridiron, but head coach Jim Schwartz did not speculate if he will take the gridiron this weekend at Seattle, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:Johnson is day-to-day. Seattle is ranked 18th in pass defense, so the star receiver would have a good chance to do some damage if deemed fit to play.
November 1, 2009
Calvin Johnson will be inactive today against the St. Louis Rams, according to Adam Scheter's twitter page.

Our View:With Johnson out look for Bryant Johnson, Dennis Northcutt and Brandon Pettigrew to see additional targets in the passing game against a suspect Rams defense.
November 1, 2009
Calvin Johnson continues to be a full-blown, game-time decision, according to Adam Schefter's twitter page.

Our View:Johnson, who has been limited by a knee injury in practice this week, is expected to go per head coach Jim Schwartz, but keep an eye on our early inactives before inserting him in your lineup this morning.
October 30, 2009
Calvin Johnson is questionable for Sunday's home game against the Rams, according to the Lions' official website. He was limited in practice for the last two days while nursing a knee ailment.

Our View:The stud receiver is progressing, but will be a game-time call. Hopefully Johnson can play for fantasy owners, as the Rams are ranked 30th in total defense.
October 29, 2009
mLive.com is reporting that Lions' receiver Calvin Johnson practiced in a limited fashion on Thursday. If Johnson doesn't suffer a setback before Sunday, he will likely play in the contest against the Rams.

Our View:Calvin ran some routes and caught passes today, and he didn't look hobbled by the knee at all. Unless it swells up tomorrow, expect him to go on Sunday. We will continue to update his status until a final decision is made.
October 28, 2009
Calvin Johnson sat out for the second straight day on Wednesday, according to mLive.com. Johnson is still dealing with a sore knee, and his status for the weekend is unknown.

Our View:Calvin owners should be concerned at this point, because he hasn't been able to go for two straight days. He has a great match-up against the Rams this week, so it would be even more devastating for owners if he can't go.
October 27, 2009
Calvin Johnson (knee) did not participate in Lions practice on Tuesday, according to MLive.com.

Our View:His status for this weekend is unknown, though he's not off to a good start.
October 21, 2009
According to the Detroit News, there is a chance that injured wide receiver Calvin Johnson could play after the Lions Week 8 bye.

Our View:Quarterback Matt Stafford could also be ready to play in Week 9, but Coach Jim Schwartz isn't really coming out and saying anything definitive on either player. Sounds like this is just the most optimistic scenario for the Lions, and what the team is hoping will come to pass.
October 18, 2009
Lions inactives: WR Calvin Johnson, DL Dewayne White, DL Jason Hunter, OT Jon Jansen, FS Ko Simpson, OG Manuel Ramirez, QB Matthew Stafford, DL Sammie Hill.

Our View:An earlier report on NFL.com stated that Calvin Johnson is active, so it is best to hold him out to be safe. The Lions' pass rush will be weakened with defensive end White out. Daunte Culpepper will start at quarterback in place of the injured Stafford (knee).
October 18, 2009
Calvin Johnson will test his ailing knee this morning, according to John Czarnecki of FOX Sports.

Our View:The elite receiver is listed as doubtful, and the source adds that he will likely be inactive for the Lions' NFC North showdown at Green Bay.
October 16, 2009
mlive.com is reporting that Lions receiver Calvin Johnson missed practice again on Friday. He is expected to be listed as doubtful for this week's game, and the team is not confident that he will be able to go.

Our View:Calvin owners need to take notice, because all signs point to him being out this week. With the bye week coming up after this game, it would make sense for the team to sit him this week to allow him to fully recover. We will update his status up until game-time, but get your backup plan ready.
October 15, 2009
MLive.com reports that wide receiver Calvin Johnson missed Thursday's practice with knee and thigh injuries.

Our View:It's not looking good for Johnson, who watched Thursday's practice from the sidelines in a warmup suit. The team won't comment on if he'll play or not, but be ready to sit him this week. Dennis Northcutt and Bryant Johnson will see more time as a result.
October 14, 2009
Updating a previous report, Calvin Johnson (knee) did not practice on Wednesday, and was even seen hobbling on the sidelines, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:He still hasn't been officially ruled out for the Lions' tilt with the Packers this weekend, but he's looking awfully unlikely to play at this point. Be ready to bench him if you are an owner.
October 14, 2009
ESPN's Adam Schefter says he does not believe Calvin Johnson (sprained knee) will play in Week 6.

Our View:Not good news for Johnson owners, because usually if Schefter reports it, it is true. At 1-4 and with a bye week in Week 7, it makes sense for the rebuilding Lions to rest Johnson this weekend and to get him completely healthy.
October 12, 2009
MLive.com reports that Calvin Johnson's knee injury is not "significant."

Our View:For now, he will play this weekend against the Packers. If he is not 100 percent, however, the team may decide to have him sit out and rest this week and next, when the Lions have a bye, so he can be fully healthy for Week 8 and beyond.
October 12, 2009
Lions' receiver Calvin Johnson left Sunday's loss to the Steelers in the first quarter with a knee injury and was not able to return, according to mLive.com. Johnson is scheduled to undergo testing on Monday to find out the severity of the injury.

Our View:The team tried to do everything in their power to get Johnson back on the field yesterday, but the injury was bad enough that he couldn't return. Losing Calvin would be a major blow to the team, as he is the one powerful weapon they have on the offensive side of the ball. Stay tuned for an update on his injury later today.
October 11, 2009
Calvin Johnson exited the game against Pittsburgh in the first quarter with an apparent right knee injury.

Our View:Johnson is getting his leg looked at by the medical staff on the sideline. No additional information is currently available regarding the severity of the injury.
October 9, 2009
Calvin Johnson was limited in practice on Friday with a thigh injury, but is expected to start against the Steelers on Sunday.

Our View:The thigh injury has bothered Johnson all week, but the Lions biggest weapon should be on the field. Owners have reason to be concerned though going against Pittsburgh and no one really certain how Duante Culpepper will perform in his first start this year.
October 8, 2009
Lions' wide receiver Calvin Johnson returned to practice on Thursday after sitting out Wednesday with a thigh injury, according to mLive.com. Johnson is expected to be fine for the team's Week 5 game against the Steelers.

Our View:If there is one player the Lions can not afford to be without, it is Johnson. He is a star and one of the most talented skill players in the league, and with starting quarterback Matt Stafford dealing with an injury, Johnson's presence on the field is even more important.
October 7, 2009
According to detroitlions.com, elite receiver Calvin Johnson did not practice on Wednesday due to a thigh injury.

Our View:Johnson injured the thigh in Week 4 against the Bears when he was hit by a helmet. It appears to just be a bruise though and shouldn't keep him out of Sunday's game against the Steelers. He should be fine to keep in your lineup.
October 5, 2009
Calvin Johnson is day-to-day after injuring his quad during Sunday's game at Chicago, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:The Lions will host the Steelers at Ford Field this weekend, which would be an even more brutal matchup if the stud receiver is unable to go. He noted yesterday that he believes he will be OK.
October 4, 2009
Calvin Johnson says the leg injury that briefly forced him out of the Lions' game on Sunday will not be an issue going forward, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:"I tried loosening my legs up, they got a little tight," Johnson said after the game. "I'll be all right, though." He finished the day with eight catches for 133 yards.
October 4, 2009
Calvin Johnson had a big game in today's 48-24 loss at Chicago, as he hauled in eight receptions for 133 yards, with a long of 45.

Our View:Johnson played up to his title as a stud receiver, despite not reaching the endzone. He topped 100 yards for the first time in 2009.
October 4, 2009
Calvin Johnson is being attended to on the sidelines at Chicago, according to Brad Biggs' twitter page. The trainers are looking at his left shoulder and wrist.

Our View:The stud receiver was able to return to the game. He hauled in five catches for 119 yards so far.
September 20, 2009
Calvin Johnson caught a team-high five passes for 51 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 27-13 loss to the Vikings at Ford Field.

Our View:Johnson caught rookie quarterback Matthew Stafford's first career touchdown pass, and the pair has potential to develop into one of the best tandems in the NFL. For the time being, Johnson should keep his stud status among fantasy receivers while Stafford learns the ropes.
August 29, 2009
Calvin Johnson had a good outing in Saturday's 18-17 preseason win over the Colts, as he caught four passes for a team-high 67 yards, with a long of 37.

Our View:Johnson appears to be fine following his bout with a sprained thumb. He should be safe to target as a No. 1 receiver in fantasy leagues.
August 24, 2009
Calvin Johnson fully practiced Monday after missing two weeks of training camp with a sprained thumb, according to MLive.com.

Our View:The plan was for Johnson to be ready to go for the August 29 preseason game against the Colts, and it looks like he will be able to do so. He should be safe to target as a top-3 fantasy receiver, despite instability at quarterback in Detroit.
August 20, 2009
According to the Detroit Free Press, Lions receiver Calvin Johnson is dealing with a sprained thumb and will not play in Saturday's exhibition game in Cleveland.

Our View:The thumb has been a constant issue this preseason, but the splint is coming off soon and Johnson should be on the short road to recovery. The new goal is to get him in the lineup for the third exhibition game on August 29th against Indy.
August 18, 2009
The Associated Press reports that Calvin Johnson returned to practice on Tuesday, but was held to limited role.

Our View:Johnson didn't catch a pass Tuesday, likely due to the cast that remains on his sprained thumb. He's questionable for the Lions' next preseason game, but the top receiver should find his way into at least one before the regular season kicks off.
August 15, 2009
Calvin Johnson, dealing with a sprained thumb, will not play in the team's first preseason game on Saturday, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:Johnson is still day-to-day with the thumb, and isn't in danger of not being ready for the beginning of the regular season.
August 13, 2009
mLive.com is reporting that the Lions have three impact players who will likely miss the team's first preseason game. Calvin Johnson, first-round pick Brandon Pettigrew, and second-round pick Louis Delmas are all doubtful, but none have been ruled out yet.

Our View:Johnson is still dealing with a thumb injury, and the Lions won't risk their best player injuring himself further in a meaningless preseason game. Pettigrew has missed the last 11 days with a thigh injury, and Delmas has missed the last week due to a minor knee injury.
August 10, 2009
Updating a previous report, Lions' star receiver Calvin Johnson was seen sporting a cast on his injured thumb at Monday morning's practice, according to mLive.com. Johnson is going to undergo more tests on the thumb in the coming days.

Our View:The coaching staff said that the cast was just precautionary, and they didn't seem all that worried. Johnson had the thumb X-rayed with the results being negative for a break, so he should be ok if a few days.
August 9, 2009
Calvin Johnson jammed his fingers on both hands Sunday, and briefly exited practice to have his thumb wrapped, according to MLive.com.

Our View:Head coach Jim Schwartz noted that the injury is not believed to be serious. We will keep you posted if the elite receiver's status is updated.
June 7, 2009
Calvin Johnson has been pleased with the state of the Lions' offense so far in practice, according to the Detroit Free Press. Johnson said, "Offense is looking good. Matthew Stafford is doing a good job early. Real exciting getting down to these last few days of OTAs."

Our View:Johnson managed to haul in 78 receptions for 1,331 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2008 during the Lions' 0-16 campaign, despite instability at quarterback and without the help of a solid wingman in the No. 2 role at receiver. He should be a safe pick as a No. 1 fantasy wideout for 2009, and his comments regarding the offense are encouraging.
March 24, 2009
According to mlive.com, Lions general manager Martin Mayhew said that he would be willing to trade down from the number one selection overall in the NFL draft.

Our View:There were also reports earlier in the week that the Lions were closing in on deciding who they wanted with the number one selection. The Lions need a ton of players so trading out of that spot would not be the worst thing in the world in a draft with no clear cut number one overall pick.
February 20, 2009
General manager Martin Mayhew says the Lions plan to work on contracts with potential No. 1 picks a few weeks prior to the April 25 draft. "It's going to be a complicated contract, so I think we have to get out ahead of that at least a couple weeks and start narrowing it down and start talking to people," Mayhew tells the Detroit News. He goes on to admit that the contract could play into who the Lions take first overall, as they want to get a deal done before the draft.

Our View:The Dolphins locked up offensive tackle Jake Long well in advance of the 2008 draft, and although the front office claims he was their top choice, the ease of the contract may have factored into that selection. For what it's worth, we would guess that it would be easier for Mayhew and the Lions to get a deal done with, for instance, offensive tackle Eugene Monroe than quarterback Matthew Stafford.
January 30, 2009
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said that the Detroit Lions will again host a game on Thanksgiving in 2009, according to the Associated Press. He did say that it could change in the future. He also stated that the NFL will not change their television blackout policy due to the economic concerns of the country. The policy is that if a team doesn't sell out their home games, they won't be televised in the local market.

Our View:There are two sides to the Lions hosting a Thanksgiving game. There's the tradition part of it, since Detroit has hosted a Thanksgiving game since 1934, but there's also the competitive side. Watching the Lions get ripped 47-10 by the Titans isn't very entertaining for anyone, maybe not even Tennessee fans. However, the NFL has teams bounce back quickly, so the Lions could be competitive again in just a couple of years. These, among other things, will certainly come up when the owners discuss how to handle the situation later in 2009.
January 18, 2009
MLive.com reports that new Lions' coach Jim Schwartz has informed the remaining coaching staff that they are free to pursue other jobs.

Our View:Good luck ex-Lions coaches. Gunther Cunningham, the Colts' defensive coordinator, is rumored to be in line for that same job in Detroit.
January 15, 2009
Jim Schwartz has been hired as the Lions head coach, according to ESPN.com. Schwartz has been defensive coordinator of the Titans for the past eight seasons. "I don't shy away from a challenge," Schwartz said earlier this week.

Our View:Well, he certainly has a challenge ahead of him, as he'll be in charge of turning around a team that just concluded the first 0-16 season in NFL history.
January 11, 2009
MLive.com reports that Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz will meet with the Lions on Sunday for his second interview for the team's head coaching spot. The team is also interested in Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, who has already had one interview.

Our View:Schwartz is a big part of one of the best coaching staffs in the league, and that has not gone unnoticed. Other teams with head coaching vacancies have also expressed interest in him.
January 10, 2009
The Lions have contacted former Browns general manager Phil Savage about joining their front office, the National Football Post notes.

Our View:Savage didn't have a strong run with the Browns, but he would be an asset for the rebuilding Lions. At the least, that front office would have one new voice who didn't previously work under or alongside Matt Millen.
January 6, 2009
The Detroit Lions will interview Dolphins assistant head coach/secondary coach Todd Bowles, and are also interested in San Diego defensive coordinator Ron Rivera, according to MLive.com.

Our View:Rivera was one of the hottest coaching candidates a few years ago after being Chicago's defensive coordinator, but didn't land a job, and subsequently was fired and relegated to coaching linebackers in San Diego before taking over as D-Coordinator.
January 5, 2009
The Lions' former coach Rod Marinelli has received an offer from the Bears to become the team's new defensive line coach, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:Marinelli is also under consideration to become the Seattle Seahawks' new defensive coordinator, so he probably won't accept the offer until he knows if he could get that position.
January 3, 2009
The Detroit Lions are interested in interviewing Atlanta offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey, and Dallas offensive coordinator Jason Garrett has withdrawn himself from consideration, Mlive.com reports.

Our View:The Lions are also believed to be interested in Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo and Titans defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz.
January 1, 2009
The Detroit Lions will interview Miami Dolphins assistant head coach Todd Bowles for their head coaching vacancy, according to ESPN. The St. Louis Rams are also interested in Bowles.

Our View:No matter who the Lions decide to hire, it can't get any worse than their 0-16 finish this year.
