Super Bowl winning coach, and former boss of Mike Martz, Dick Vermeil says he would "stake my entire reputation on (Chicago's) offense improving when (Martz) takes over," according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

Our View:While it wouldn't be too hard for Chicago's offense to better in 2010 than it was during its horrid 2009 season, Vermeil is likely right. After his historic run in St. Louis, Martz got legitimate fantasy production out of Jon Kitna in Detroit and Alex Smith in San Francisco, so one can only imagine what he might be able to do with a talent like Cutler. His hiring makes Cuter a dark-horse early round pick in 2010.

The Bears have hired Mike Martz to serve as their new offensive coordinator, according to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

Our View:Look for Martz to transform this offense into becoming wide open. He certainly has the tools with a strong-armed gunslinger in Jay Cutler, a back with great hands in Matt Forte, a receiving tight end in Greg Olsen and speedy wideouts in Devin Hester, Earl Bennett, Johnny Knox and Devin Aromashodu.

Bears offensive coordinator candidate Mike Martz had dinner with team quarterback Jay Cutler on Saturday night, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:After being highly critical of Cutler on his T.V. job last year, Martz is obviously now trying to bury the hatchet. While Cutler is a noted "crybaby," so to speak, he will most likely approve of Martz's hiring considering his pedigree. No one will stand to benefit more from "Mad Mike" coming to Chicago.

The Bears could be on the verge of hiring noted guru Mike Martz as their next offensive coordinator, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:Martz interviewed on Friday for the job that seemingly nobody wants, and would be a very intriguing fit in the Windy City. Jay Cutler would represent the first above-average quarterback he has worked with since Marc Bulger. Were he to be hired, fireworks should be expected in Chicago in 2010.

The Bears reportedly can't land a new offensive coordinator because of fears over working with Jay Cutler, according to NBC Sports.

Our View:After widely circulated reports that Cutler got former Chicago coordinator Ron Turner fired, and the reality that he forced his way out of Denver like a petulant child, potential play callers are understandably leery of working with him. What to do? Hire someone who is as big of an egomaniac as he is. While those are always in large supply in the NFL, Mike Martz and Brian Billick are the two most accomplished that first come to mind.

Hue Jackson is slated to interview with the Bears for the offensive coordinator position, according to Adam Schefter's (ESPN) twitter page.

Our View:Jackson did a good job developing Joe Flacco while working as Baltimore's quarterbacks coach. His presence in Chicago could benefit Jay Cutler, who threw 26 interceptions in 2009, to go along with an anemic 76.8 efficiency rating.

Long-time NFL offensive coordinator Mike Martz has not yet been contacted about the Bears' opening at the position, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:He has not been ruled out yet in the Windy City, but he doesn't seem like a likely candidate to land the job at the moment. One thing working in his favor, however, is his relationship with Bears head coach Lovie Smith, who served as Martz's defensive coordinator earlier this decade in St. Louis. As of now, USC offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates looks to be the favorite for the gig.

Recently fired Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner says Jay Cutler was doomed by unrealistic expectations in 2009, according to ESPN.

Our View:"He came into a difficult situation with the expectations as high as they were," Turner said. "As soon as he got here everybody said 'Jay Cutler is here,' and now the expectations went through the roof. I don't know if that was realistic with the issues we had on the offensive line and with the young receivers. We all knew it was going to take some time. I'm not sure anybody else did. I think there was a huge weight on his shoulders to come in and really produce at a high level." It's a good sign for the supposedly "coach killing" Cutler that his former coordinator did not throw him under the bus when given an opportunity to. Expect Cutler to have a nice bounce back season in 2010, and for his 26 interceptions from this season to be nearly cut in half.

After the Bears fired six offensive coaches on Tuesday, including offensive coordinator Ron Turner, one of the coaches told Sports Illustrated's Jim Trotter that Chicago quarterback Jay Cutler is a "coach killer."

Our View:Whether he meant through his freewheeling play on the field, or surly attitude off of it, he did not specify. Long publicly perceived to be something of a whiner, Cutler might do best to shape up his attitude next season before all of Chicago turns on him.
January 5, 2010
In an unsurprising move, the Bears fired offensive coordinator Ron Turner on Tuesday, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:The Bears have found their fall-guy for Jay Cutler's 26 interceptions. That being said, Cutler's disaster of year coupled with Matt Forte's enormous regression this season certainly warrant a change of philosophy on the offensive side of the ball in the Windy City.

Bears coach Lovie Smith will most likely be returning to Chicago in 2010, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It will be his seventh season with the team.

Our View:He has been spared with the caveat that some assistant coaches will not be. This almost certainly means that Mickey Mouse offensive coordinator Ron Turner will not be back. Could Lovie be gearing up for a reunion with Mike Martz? Stay tuned.
January 4, 2010
Lovie Smith is expected to remain the head coach of the Bears for the 2010 campaign, according to Brad Biggs of the National Football Post.

Our View:Chicago missed the playoffs with a disappointing 7-9 record this season, but much of the blame should fall on quarterback Jay Cutler - who threw an NFL-worst 26 interceptions. Running back Matt Forte was stuck in neutral for most of the year as well.
January 3, 2010
Jay Cutler tossed four touchdowns and no interceptions in Sunday's 37-23 win over the Lions. He picked up 276 yards on 22 completions.

Our View:After looking like one of fantasy's biggest busts through 15 weeks, Cutler wrapped up the season eight touchdowns against one interception. Remarkably, that effort gives him more touchdowns (27) than interceptions this season (26). Perhaps we can chalk up the lousy season to a new team and poor receivers. We'll get back to you in a year on that.
