November 12, 2009
Vernon Davis finished Thursday night's game with just three receptions for 16 yards in the Niners' 10-6 win over the Bears.

Our View:Davis owners have to be disappointed with this outing, especially going against a depleted Bears' defense. He is having a breakout season, but he looked like the Davis of old tonight. Still, he should be able to rebound in the coming weeks, as his talent level his to high for him to struggle consistently.

Vernon Davis (shoulder) is probable for San Francisco's Thursday night showdown with Chicago, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:He is fully expected to be active, however. Going against Chicago's porous pass-defense, he can be expected to have another big game.

NFL.com reports that Vernon Davis was a full participant in Tuesday's practice and was not limited by his shoulder injury.

Our View:The NFL's receiving touchdown leader will likely be called probable on Thursday, but will almost certainly be active against the Bears. Feel comfortable playing the number one tight end this week.
November 8, 2009
Vernon Davis hauled in ten passes for 102 yards in the 49ers 34-27 Week 9 loss to the Titans.

Our View:The NFL's leader in receiving touchdowns had a nice game, but never found the end zone in this one. He hooked up plenty of times with quarterback Alex Smith, and its hard to complain about a 100-yard game, but owners were likely hoping he would have added to his seven scores this season.

Updating an earlier report, Vernon Davis returned to today's game against the Titans.

Our View:Davis exited earlier and had his left shoulder examined on the sideline, but he appears to be OK.
November 8, 2009
Vernon Davis is getting checked out by trainers on the sideline. He may have injured his left shoulder during today's battle against Tennessee.

Our View:Further details regarding Davis' status are yet to be disclosed. Delanie Walker is the No. 2 tight end on the 49ers' depth chart.
November 1, 2009
Vernon Davis only notched three receptions for 20 yards, but one of them went for an eight-yard touchdown in the Week 8 loss at Indianapolis.

Our View:In the last five games, Davis has compiled 26 receptions for 303 yards and seven touchdowns. The four-year veteran is now a top-five tight end in all formats, and an every-week starter.
October 25, 2009
Vernon Davis reeled in seven balls for 93 yards and three touchdowns in the Week 7 loss to Houston.

Our View:Head coach Mike Singletary's "attitude adjustment" has had a postive effect on Davis, who has compiled 22 receptions for 283 yards and four touchdowns in the last four games. Next week the degree of difficulty spikes northward with a road game at Indianapolis.
October 4, 2009
Vernon Davis had only three receptions on Sunday, but thankfully for his fantasy owners, one of them went for a touchdown. He now has three TD grabs in the past two weeks.

Our View:Coach Mike Singletary said in training camp that Davis would be a big part of the 49ers offense this season, and he appears to have followed through on that promise. He should be a great option at tight end in all formats this year.
September 30, 2009
Vernon Davis (shin) was a full-participant in 49ers practice on Wednesday, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:The injury is not considered serious, and Davis will be good-to-go and follow up his two touchdown performance from Week 3 against the Rams this Sunday.
September 27, 2009
Vernon Davis caught seven passes for 96 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 3 loss to Minnesota.

Our View:Prior to Week 2, Davis had only posted seven receptions for 72 yards, so this performance gets him off the snide. He will likely be a hot waiver wire commodity this week, but don't go too crazy spending your free agency dollars for the rights to his services.
September 12, 2009
According to the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat, 49ers' coach Mike Singletary has named tight end Vernon Davis a team captain. Davis was benched by Singletary last season for his lackluster effort.

Our View:Singletary said last season that he couldn't win with players like Davis, so this goes to show you how far Vernon has come. He is a team leader and is looking to revamp his career, and if he gets it together he can be an elite tight end. We want to see him do it before we buy into what he and the team are selling.
August 15, 2009
Vernon Davis got off to a good preseason start on Friday night, catching two balls for 41 yards as the Niners edged the Broncos.

Our View:Davis has apparently been an animal in camp so far, and looks poised to become an elite tight end in 2009. You'll probably have to reach in your draft to get him.
August 9, 2009
Vernon Davis continues to turn heads in training camp with the 49ers, according to Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee. The source describes him as "awesome."

Our View:Davis is expected to play a large role in offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye's system this season, and he could finally join the elite class among fantasy tight ends in 2009. He has major upside, but should be drafted as a backup to be safe.
August 3, 2009
Vernon Davis is performing very well in the early going of training camp, according to ESPN. He is reportedly catching everything thrown in his direction.

Our View:Davis has great potential as a pass-catcher, but was limited to only 31 receptions in 2008 while used mainly as a blocker under offensive coordinator Mike Martz. It sounds like he could finally break out in 2009, especially with new coordinator Jimmy Raye, who directed Tony Gonzalez to great production during his time in Kansas City.
May 25, 2009
Vernon Davis expects to play a significant role in the 49ers' offense under the direction of new coordinator Jimmy Raye, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. Davis said, "Raye told me the tight end is the focal point. I am looking forward it. He said he wants to get his playmakers involved."

Our View:Davis has the physical tools to dominate at the position, but he only caught 31 passes for 358 yards and two scores last season while ignored in Mike Martz's offense. Davis looks to bounce back in 2009, and could finally be headed for a breakout campaign.
February 12, 2009
Vernon Davis is likely to be featured more in the 49ers' aerial attack next season under new offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye, according to the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.

Our View:Davis was virtually ignored in the passing game in 2008 under the direction of Mike Martz. Raye is coming from the Jets, who like to utilize their tight ends. Davis has the skills to dominate at the position, and looks to rank as a potential sleeper for 2009.
