Newsbreakers
January 6, 2010
Confirming the inevitable, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that Wes Welker (torn ACL) has been placed on injured reserve.

Our View:What a terrible, terrible break for one of the league's most accomplished and classiest players. As for New England, his loss might not sink them against the Ravens, but it's hard to envision as serious title contenders this season without their slot-receiver extraordinaire.

An MRI has confirmed that slot-receiver extraordinaire Wes Welker indeed suffered both a torn ACL and MCL against the Texans on Sunday, according to NFL.com.

Our View:His loss for the playoffs is a tremendous blow to the Patriots' title hopes. While Tom Brady will still likely be able to throw all over Baltimore's shoddy secondary this weekend, New England's prospects beyond that are not too great. Welker is expected to be ready for the beginning of the 2010 season.

Updating a previous injury report, initial tests showed Patriots wide receiver Wes Welker tore his ACL and MCL, according to Adam Schefter's (ESPN) twitter page.

Our View:He'll undergo more tests tomorrow to confirm, but the initial reports are not good. Depending on how his rehab progresses, Welker could begin the 2010 season on the PUP list.

The New England Patriots suffered a significant blow to their Super Bowl hopes when wide receiver Wes Welker suffered what is feared by one source to be a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee on Sunday at Houston, according to Yahoo Sports.

Our View:The Patriots are awaiting the results of an MRI exam on the knee, but an on-field exam showed instability consistent with an ACL tear, according to a team source. New England coach Bill Belichick did not provide an update on the injury after the game. This injury obviously places Welker's postseason in doubt, and he could start the 2010 season on the PUP list if he suffered a torn ACL requiring surgery this late in the campaign.
January 3, 2010
Updating at earlier injury report, wide receiver Wes Welker will not return after suffering a knee injury in the first quarter of the game at Houston, according to Mike Reiss' (ESPN Boston) twitter page.

Our View:No word on the severity of the injury or if it will cause him to miss the playoffs. We will provide updates as soon as additional information hits the newswire.
January 3, 2010
Wes Welker exited the game at Houston in the first quarter with a left knee injury.

Our View:Welker was down on the field for several minutes after jamming his knee into the turf. No additional information is currently available regarding the severity of the injury, but Welker's day appears to be over after being carted to the locker room for further medical evaluation.
