October 21, 2009 The National Football Post reports that the Browns have signed veteran free agent tight end Michael Gaines. Our View:Gaines was cut by the Bears over the weekend after Chicago traded for Gaines Adams. He has spent time with the Lions and Bills as well, and his best season came in 2007 with Buffalo when he caught 25 passes for 215 yards and two scores. Don't expect him to make much of an impact with the struggling Browns though. |

May 11, 2009 Michael Gaines agreed to a one-year deal with the Bears on Monday, according to the Chicago Tribune. Our View:Chicago has two pass-catching tight ends in Greg Olsen and Desmond Clark, and Gaines will be used as a blocker. Not surprisingly, his fantasy value will be minimal to non-existent. |

May 7, 2009 Michael Gaines is expected to visit the Bears today, according to the Star-Ledger. Our View:Gaines was released by the division rival Lions at the end of April. Gaines would provide adequate depth in Chicago, but would not see much action as long as rising star Greg Olsen and solid vet Desmond Clark remain intact. |

April 29, 2009 The Detroit Free Press reports that the Lions released tight end Michael Gaines on Wednesday. He signed a four-year, $10 million deal with the Lions last season. Our View:The Lions could shed him after drafting Brandon Pettigrew and Dan Gronkowski last weekend. Gaines had 23 catches in 16 games last season and should be able to find a backup job somewhere, assuming he's willing to take a paycut. |
