The Florida Times-Union is reporting that Jaguars' cornerback Rashean Mathis is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday. Mathis is suffering from a strained groin, and the team wants to assess the extent of the injury.

Our View:Head coach Jack Del Rio said the team would update Mathis' status on Wednesday, but it looks like he will miss at least this week. We will know more tomorrow, so stay tuned.

Head coach Jack Del Rio believes that Rashean Mathis could miss time with his strained groin suffered in Week 10, according to the Jaguars' official website.

Our View:Mathis is their best cornerback, and would be missed in an already unstable secondary. Free safety Reggie Nelson could replace him at cornerback again if needed.

Cornerback Rashean Mathis suffered a leg strain during the fourth quarter of the Week 10 game against the Jets, Michael C. Wright of the Florida Times-Union notes. His return is questionable.

Our View:Mathis is one of the game's best cover corners, so this could be good news for the Jets.

Rashean Mathis (finger) fully practiced for the third straight day Friday, according to the Jaguars' official website.

Our View:Mathis is expected to start Sunday's home game against the Chiefs. The star cornerback will provide a boost to the Jaguars' 26th ranked pass defense after missing Week 8.

Rashean Mathis (finger) fully practiced Thursday, according to NFL.com.

Our View:Mathis expects to play Sunday against Kansas City. He would spark the Jaguars' 26th ranked pass defense as their best cornerback.

According to Michael C. Wright on Twitter, the cast has been removed from Rashean Mathis' hand and he expects to play on Sunday.

Our View:Mathis is now sporting a small splint in place of the cast and had this to say about his availability for Week 9, "I intend to play. I'm practicing today, I'm practicing all week." The Jags could certainly use their top cornerback this week against what should be a pass-heavy Chiefs offense. Mathis has 18 tackles, two picks and a fumble recovery on the season.

Jaguars inactives: CB Rashean Mathis, WR Tiquan Underwood, S Sean Considine, DB Brian Witherspoon, OG Maurice Williams, OT Jordan Black, DT Greg Peterson, and DL Bryan Smith.

Our View:The most significant loss is star cornerback Rashean Mathis. Hard-hitting safety Considine will also be missed in their secondary, which could benefit quarterback Vince Young as he makes his first start of 2009 for the Titans. Rookie Mike Thomas will return punts in the absence of Witherspoon.

Rashean Mathis will miss Sunday's game at Tennessee due to his broken finger, according to Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post.

Our View:Mathis is unable to practice after having surgery last week. Either Scott Starks or Tyrone Brackenridge will replace the star cornerback, which will be a downgrade at the position.

Rashean Mathis' hand was in a splint in the locker room after the Jaguars' victory over the Rams on Sunday, according to Michael C. Wright of the Florida Times-Union.

Our View:No information was divulged other than "it's an issue with (his) finger," and that he should be fine. He was a key cog in the Jags win, intercepting a ball and deflecting two others. For the season, he has two picks.

Rashean Mathis missed today's practice while dealing with a hip injury, according to the Jaguars' official website.

Our View:The star cornerback is the anchor of the Jaguars' secondary and would be a tough loss if unable to play in Week 6 against St. Louis.

Rashean Mathis noted that the Jaguars played more efficiently against the Eagles after being inconsistent over their previous two preseason games, according to the Florida Times-Union. Mathis said, "I think we have had a great camp, but I think in our first two preseason games, we played very inconsistently. I think we played a lot better against the Eagles."

Our View:Mathis is the star of the Jaguars' secondary, and has developed into a leader on defense. His comments are encouraging as the club gets ready to battle the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Week 1.

Rashean Mathis indicated that he feels fully recovered from the knee injury that forced him to miss the last four games of 2008, according to the Florida Times-Union. He said, "I am fully recovered. I have been out there running full speed. All that is behind me. I do not even think about it. I am not wearing a knee brace or anything."

Our View:This is good news for the Jaguars' secondary, as Mathis is an elite pro when healthy. He has 25 interceptions over six campaigns in the NFL, and should remain a solid option for IDP leagues among cornerbacks.

The National Football Post reports that the Jacksonville Jaguars will likely hire Mel Tucker to run the team's defense.

Our View:Tucker was the coordinator for the Browns last season, and the results were mediocre. The team was 26th in total defense, 28th in rush defense, 14th in pass defense, and 16th in scoring defense, allowing 21.9 points per game.
