PhiladelphiaEagles.com is reporting that Eagles' head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder said Friday that there is no timetable set for Brian Westbrook's return after ankle surgery. Burkholder went on to say that Westbrook is "doing good" and he should be ready for the start of the regular season.

Our View:This is some encouraging news after it was reported that the injury was more serious than originally thought. It sounds like the training staff sees this as fairly minor, so Westbrook should be ready to go for the start of the season.

A source claims that Brian Westbrook's ankle surgery is more serious than the Eagles are indicating, according to Bob Brookover of the Philadelphia Inquirer. The undisclosed source said, I am just concerned that it is being underplayed. It is a lot more than a little spur and it is much more than the knee arthroscopy he had in February." Westbrook will have surgery on Friday.

Our View:The Eagles also stated that they expect Westbrook to be good to go for Week 1 of the regular season. Rookie LeSean McCoy looks to be a must-have handcuff for 2009 if you decide to take a chance on Westbrook being healthy. Westbrook will turn 30 in September, and is yet to play a full 16-game slate.

Updating previous reports, Brian Westbrook will have surgery on his right ankle to clean up bone spurs in the joint, according to ESPN.com. The surgery could sideline him well into training camp and other reports list him out until Week 1 of the NFL season. His agent, however, considered the operation a minor procedure. Westbrook also had surgery on his left knee three months ago.

Our View:This is the same ankle that bothered him throughout 2008, and the team is hoping that the procedure will eliminate the problem in the upcoming season. It may be the beginning of the end for Westbrook, who turns 30 in September. We fully expect him to remain the primary running back for the Eagles, but the second round selection of running back LeSean McCoy is starting to look even better than originally perceived.

Comcast SportsNet is now reporting that not only will Brian Westbrook miss Eagles OTAs, but that he is out until Week 1 of the regular season at the "earliest." No word yet from the Eagles.

Our View:This clouds Westbrook's draft status while increasing both LeSean McCoy's and Lorenzo Booker's. For now, it is unclear exactly when he will be back, and any prospective owner would be wise to take a wait-and-see approach with the Eagles' star running back.

Updating a previous report, Brian Westbrook is sitting out his second practice in a row with a sore ankle, according to philadelphiaeagles.com.

Our View:Westbrook will miss Wednesday's practice and be examined by a team doctor. Apparently he injured the same ankle in a game last September, but it's uncertain if the current injury stemmed from that.
