The Washington Post's Rick Maese reports that running back Clinton Portis is set to see another specialist about his concussion.

Our View:Portis seems miles away from the field right now, and you have to wonder if he is going to play at all again in 2009. Ladell Betts is the team's indefinite feature back.
November 19, 2009
Updating an earlier item, Clinton Portis (concussion) has been officially ruled out for Week 11, according to Rick Maese of the Washington Post.

Our View:Ladell Betts will get the call. It is likely to be some time before Portis is back in the fold, and even if he does return in 2009, he may not be the feature back for the rest of the season.
November 19, 2009
Clinton Portis (concussion) was a no-show at Redskins practice again on Thursday, according to the Washington Post's Rick Maese.

Our View:It's clear that he is not playing this weekend. Ladell Betts will again serve as the Redskins' feature back.
November 18, 2009
Redskins' beat reporter Rick Maese is reporting that running back Clinton Portis was not at practice on Wednesday. Portis is dealing with the effects of a concussion.

Our View:The Skins have said that Portis has to practice this week if he wants to play, so he is 0-for-1 so far. Portis has been acting like there is no hurry for him to return, so owners may be without again this week. Check back again tomorrow for another update.
November 16, 2009
Clinton Portis (concussion) will not play this weekend unless he practices this week, according to Rick Maese of the Washington Post.

Our View:Portis is, of course, famous for sitting out and resting injuries during the week only to play and be effective on Sundays. With this injury being a concussion, however, the Redskins are exercising much more caution. Look for Wednesday, and whether or not he practices, to be the first real sign of his Week 11 status.
November 16, 2009
Clinton Portis (concussion) will still be Washington's starter when he returns from injury, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:So he's no Wally Pipp, and Ladell Betts is no Lou Gehrig. Betts' 114 rushing yards on Sunday were more than Portis had run for in any game this season, however, and at the very least, it does finally appear that he will be getting those extra carries the team said he would at the beginning of the season when Portis returns.
November 15, 2009
Week 10 inactives: RB Clinton Portis, TE Chris Cooley, CB Kevin Barnes, TE/FB Eddie Williams, G/T Mike Williams, LB Robert Henson, DT Anthony Mongtomery, and DL Renaldo Wynn.

Our View:RB Ladell Betts, who was questionable on the injury report with an ankle injury, will start for Portis, who is inactive due to the effects of a concussion. Also, TE Fred Davis will continue to start for Cooley, who is inactive due to an ankle injury.
November 13, 2009
Clinton Portis is in danger of missing the rest of the 2009 season as he deals with the after effects of a concussion, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:He seems to still be experiencing some rather severe effects from last week's incident, including a ringing in his head, and there is no timetable for his return. The team believes it might not be in his best interest. Ladell Betts should be the primary feature back in his absence, though Betts might also be unable to go this weekend because of injury.
November 12, 2009
According to Jason Reid on Twitter, Redskins running back Clinton Portis has been officially ruled out of Sunday's game against the Broncos due to a concussion.

Our View:No real shocker here, as Portis was expected to be held out of the Week 10 contest. He didn't practice all week after suffering the concussion in Week 9, and will be replaced in the starting lineup by Ladell Betts. Don't expect much production out of Betts though, as the Broncos have a staunch run defense.
November 11, 2009
Redskins' beat writer Rick Maese is reporting that running back Clinton Portis was not at practice Wednesday morning. Portis is unlikely to play this week while dealing with a concussion.

Our View:Nobody expected Portis to work with the team today, as he is expected to miss this week's game. He likely won't go at practice all week, so fantasy owners need to have another back penciled in.
November 10, 2009
Clinton Portis acknowledged on Tuesday that it might be tough for him to get into the Redskins lineup this weekend as deals with the aftermath of a concussion he suffered last Sunday, according to the Washington Post's Rick Maese.

Our View:There's little sense in rushing Portis back from the second concussion of his football career, especially with Ladell Betts ready as a capable fill-in. Don't expect him to play against the Broncos on Sunday.
November 9, 2009
It has been revealed that Clinton Portis suffered a concussion in the Redskins loss to the Falcons on Sunday, according to Rick Maese of the Washington Post. He is unlikely to play in Week 10.

Our View:Portis has been banged up for weeks with a variety of ailments, but this looks like the one that will finally knock him out of the lineup. Ladell Betts will likely be the feature back this weekend. The Redskins are also rumored to perhaps have some interest in soon to be free agent back Larry Johnson. Stay tuned.
November 8, 2009
Updating an earlier report, Clinton Portis will not return to today's game at Atlanta after exiting with a head injury, according to the Washington Post on twitter.

Our View:The Post states that he has a concussion, but the Redskins are yet to confirm that news. Ladell Betts will handle the bulk of the workload at running back in his absence.
November 8, 2009
Clinton Portis was shaken up on a helmet-to-helmet hit from safety Thomas DeCoud in today's game at Atlanta, according to Cindy Boren's (Washington Post) twitter page.

Our View:Portis is sitting up, which is a good sign. His return is questionable, and we will keep you posted on his status.
October 27, 2009
The Washington Times reports that Clinton Portis aggravated his ankle injury in the Redskins loss to the Eagles on Monday.

Our View:Portis rushed for just 43 yards on 14 carries, and this could go a long way toward explaining those numbers. For the 'Skins to have any chance at a non-embarrassing season, they are going to need Portis relatively healthy and ready for some bruising games.
October 26, 2009
Clinton Portis struggled to get anything going on Monday as the Redskins fell to the Eagles on Monday Night Football. Portis rushed for only 43 yards on 14 carries in the loss.

Our View:Portis has been dealing with an ankle injury all week, and it could have played a factor in tonight's performance. The Skins threw the ball 43 times tonight, which also played a role in his limited performance.
October 26, 2009
NFL.com is reporting that Redskins' running back Clinton Portis is active and starting for tonight's Monday Night Football game. Defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth is also active and expected to start.

Our View:Portis returned to practice on Saturday, so there was very little doubt that he would play today. Haynesworth's status was more uncertain, but he is expected to be close to full speed tonight as well.
October 24, 2009
Clinton Portis returned to practice on Saturday after sitting earlier in the week with a sprained ankle, according to the Washington Times. Portis is expected to start Monday night against the Eagles.

Our View:No surprise here, as Portis has been expected to start all week. He is a nice play against the Eagles for fantasy owners, so get him in if you have him.
October 23, 2009
The Washington Post reports that Clinton Portis was held out of practice for the third straight day on Friday with an ankle injury, but that he is still likely to play against the Eagles on Monday night.

Our View:Portis is a famous "never practices, always plays" player, and there is no doubt that he will be suited up on Monday. He is coming off his first 100-yard rushing game of the season last week, and is a good play against the Eagles' middle-of-the-road run-defense.
October 22, 2009
Clinton Portis (sprained ankle) was again held out of practice on Thursday, according to Rick Maese of the Washington Post.

Our View:With the Redskins not playing until Monday night this week, Portis has one extra deal to heal up his creaky ankle, and almost certainly will play against the Eagles and their middle-of-the-road run defense. He carried the ball only 15 times in Week 6, but managed to reel off a season-high 109 yards (78 did come on one run, however).
October 21, 2009
Redskins.com reports that running back Clinton Portis (sprained ankle) did not practice on Wednesday, but is still on track to start Week 7 against the Eagles.

Our View:Pain in the ankles is nothing new for Portis, who has been playing with bone spurs in both his left and right ankles all season. He should be able to suck it up once again and play on Monday night, but don't expect him to get a lot more than the 15 carries he racked up in Week 6.
October 18, 2009
Clinton Portis was a standout for the Redskins in Sunday's 14-6 loss to the Chiefs at FexEx Field, as he bruised his way to a game-high 109 rushing yards on 15 carries. He also caught three passes for 15 receiving yards.

Our View:Portis was forced to exit the game with a sprained ankle, and his injury status is yet to be updated. Portis topped 100 rushing yards for the first time in 2009.
October 18, 2009
Clinton Portis suffered a sprained ankle during today's home game against the Chiefs, according to Cindy Boren's (Washington Post) twitter page.

Our View:His return to the gridiron is questionable. Ladell Betts is the acting starter at running back in his absence.
October 11, 2009
Clinton Portis toted the rock 19 times for 57 yards and a score, while chipping in two receptions for 17 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 loss to Carolina.

Our View:Despite the two touchdowns, Portis clearly appears to be in decline after averaging 3.7 yards per carry over the first five weeks of the season. However, he does catch a break next weekend with the lowly Chiefs visiting the nation's capital.
October 9, 2009
The Washington Post is reporting that there was a heated verbal exchange between running back Clinton Portis and fullback Mike Sellers during practice on Monday. Portis reportedly asked the coaching staff to remove Sellers from last week's game because Portis didn't like the way Sellers was blocking.

Our View:The drama never seems to stop in Washington, but this is actually a big deal. It is Sellers' job to block for Portis, yet the two are screaming at each other one day after the game. This can't be good for the team or for the players involved, but at least no punches were thrown.
October 4, 2009
Clinton Portis had a good game in today's 16-13 win over Tampa Bay at FedEx Field, as he rushed for 98 yards on 25 carries.

Our View:Portis failed to reach 100 yards, but this was a gutsy performance as he was uncertain to play due to an ankle and calf ailment.
October 4, 2009
Clinton Portis is expected to play in today's battle against Tampa Bay, according to John Czarnecki of FOX Sports.

Our View:This is assuming Portis does not suffer a setback with his calf and ankle ailments before the game. Ladell Betts should play an expanded role in the ground attack, in a plan for Portis to take less punishment.
October 2, 2009
The Washington Post is reporting that Redskins' running back Clinton Portis is being listed as questionable for Sunday's game against the Bucs. Coach Jim Zorn said that there is a fifty-fifty chance that Portis will play.

Our View:Portis hasn't taken any reps this week because of his calf injury, but it still seems very possible that he could play this weekend. Fantasy owners hate things like "game-time decision" and "fifty-fifty chance", but owners will have to check on Sunday to see if he is playing.
September 30, 2009
Clinton Portis did not practice on Wednesday, according to the Washington Post. Portis is suffering from an ankle injury.

Our View:Portis had the ankle issue last week as well, and he only rushed for 42 yards on 12 carries against the Lions. He will likely play again this week, but he won't be 100 percent.
September 27, 2009
The Redskins are expected to retain head coach Jim Zorn despite the Week 3 loss to the Lions, Adam Schefter tweets.

Our View:Zorn has run an uninspired offense during his tenure with the Redskins, and you can't place all of that blame on Jason Campbell. The Redskins could have a new coach and quarterback by the start of the 2010 season, but that pair remains in place, for now.
September 27, 2009
Clinton Portis is expected to be active today against Detroit despite his ankle injury, according to Adam Schefter's Twitter page.

Our View:Portis was limited in practice Wednesday and Thursday, and didn't participate Friday, but head coach Jim Zorn expects him to start today. Portis will likely see a lighter workload with Ladell Betts getting a few more carries than normal.
September 26, 2009
Though Clinton Portis (ankle) is still listed as questionable, head coach Jim Zorn said that he'll play Sunday against the Lions, according to the Washington Times. "His ankles have been sore," Zorn said. "We've got many [other backs] to choose from, but I expect Clinton to be out there ripping around."

Our View:It looks like Portis will be playing through the pain. Expect Ladell Betts to be involved in Washington's game plan as well, but against a weak Detroit defense, it's still tough to sit Portis this week unless you have some real attractive options in his place. Be sure to check back in on Sunday morning just to make sure Portis doesn't suffer any setbacks.
September 25, 2009
Updating an earlier report, Clinton Portis (ankles) did not practice at all on Friday, according to Rick Maese of the Washington Post.

Our View:He will be listed as questionable for Sunday. If he is unable to go (which seems unlikely), Ladell Betts will see an increased workload, while Marcus Mason and Rock Cartwright may each see a carry or two.
September 25, 2009
Clinton Portis (ankle) was limited in practice on Friday, according to Rick Maese of the Washington Post.

Our View:Portis being limited in practice is his common practice, and he will almost surely play this Sunday in Detroit. The Redskins' running game has been anemic so far this season, but will be going up against a bottom-tier rush defense in the Lions. Portis seems primed to surpass his Week 2 total of 79 yards as long as he is healthy.
September 20, 2009
Clinton Portis returned to action after limping off the field earlier in the second quarter.

Our View:Portis seems to be fine after giving fantasy owners a slight scare.
September 20, 2009
Clinton Portis limped off the field in the second quarter of today's home game against the Rams.

Our View:Ladell Betts replaced him in the backfield, and we will keep you posted on Portis' status.
September 17, 2009
According to the Washington Post, Redskins featured back Clinton Portis is already feeling the wear and tear of the young 2009-10 season.

Our View:Apparently Portis woke up on Monday after a Week 1 loss to the Giants and felt like he had carried the ball 25-30 times, despite the fact that he only amassed 16. Portis' decline and penchant for injuries has not gone unnoticed and the Redskins are doing everything they can to keep him fresh. Still, no one thought he'd be feeling the effects after just one game. He's still a great play on Sunday against a porous Rams defense, but expect his carries to be limited for much of the season.
September 15, 2009
Clinton Portis was on the field for less than half (24-of-49) of the Redskins' offensive plays in their loss to New York on Sunday, according to the Washington Times.

Our View:That's still five more snaps than Ladell Betts was on the field for, but not enough to have a meaningful fantasy impact. If his touches don't increase in the coming weeks, he could be in line for a herculean fall in value this season.
September 13, 2009
Clinton Portis failed to impress in Sunday's 23-17 loss at the Giants, as he only gained 62 rushing yards on 18 carries. He added one reception for 10 yards.

Our View:Portis may have been hindered by his bruised rib. Hopefully he will fare better in Week 2 in a favorable home match-up against the Rams.
September 7, 2009
Clinton Portis practiced on Monday, according to the Washington Times.

Our View:He has been nursing a bruised rib, but is expected to start in Week 1 against the Giants. He rushed for 84 yards on 23 carries in his last trip to the Meadowlands in 2008.
August 30, 2009
Clinton Portis is expected to miss the team's final preseason game with a bruised rib, according to the Washington Post. The situation is not being viewed as anything serious.

Our View:Portis missing the game isn't a big deal since he probably would have only played a series or two anyway, but this does raise the question of Portis's durability for the coming season. He is already going to lose carries to Ladell Betts, and his fantasy stock seems to be dropping a little bit.
August 28, 2009
Clinton Portis could muster only eight yards on six carries in the Redskins' preseason game against the Patriots on Friday night.

Our View:Not necessarily a huge concern, but still not great news for a back who averaged just 3.5 yards per carry in the final eight games of 2008.
August 17, 2009
Clinton Portis has been a standout in training camp with the Redskins, according to the Washington Post. Head coach Jim Zorn said, "He has worked hard, run hard, and he is learning as well."

Our View:Portis is among the most talented running backs in the NFL, but slowed down over the second half of last season due to several ailments. He will turn 28 in September, and won't likely see much action in the preseason in a bid to keep him healthy.
August 11, 2009
The Washington Times is reporting that Redskins' running back Clinton Portis will not play in the team's first preseason game on Thursday. Portis is not injured, but coach Jim Zorn said he will give Portis the first game off.

Our View:Portis is getting older, and at this point in his career he needs the rest more than the reps on the field. He should play at least two games in the preseason, but the team won't risk injuring him on Thursday.
August 7, 2009
Clinton Portis, Santana Moss and Albert Haynesworth will out sit out the team's intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:No official reason was given for the vets skipping the scrimmage, but it's likely it's for nothing more than rest and to avoid injury. There is no reason to worry about any of the three.
July 28, 2009
Redskins coach Jim Zorn insists there is no rift between him and star running back Clinton Portis, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Well if they don't already, they might soon. The team has pledged to give backup Ladell Betts more carries this season, though under the guise that it is to keep Portis fresher as the season grinds on. Portis rushed for nearly 1,500 yards last season, but slowed down considerably in the second half. As long as Betts just spells him a few more times than he did last season, Portis will likely stay positive, as well as his fantasy value. If not, things could go south fast.
July 22, 2009
According to the Washington Times, the Redskins are going to give Ladell Betts more carries in an attempt to keep Clinton Portis fresh all season.

Our View:Portis tired significantly in the second half last season and the Skins want to get Betts involved on third downs and even give him an additional series or two per half to keep Portis fresh. Portis averaged 5.0 yards per carry in the first half last season, but just 3.5 in the second. He also failed to eclipse more than 80 yards in any of the season's final five games. This move will obviously boost Betts' fanatsy value, but if it works the way the Redskins want it to it shouldn't hurt Portis'. If the extra rest improves his second half performance, his numbers should be similar to last season's despite a loss of touches.
May 3, 2009
According to the Associated Press, Clinton Portis is complaining about early offseason practices. Apparently he is concerned with Swine flu.

Our View:Portis was quoted saying, "It's too soon to be back. Bad weather. Swine flu going around. This water could have some Swine flu in it, then all of us would be dead. In Mexico, they canceled all sporting events. They need to do that in the U.S." Sounds like he's just being a cry baby.
March 16, 2009
Clinton Portis is attending the Redskins' first day of the off-season program, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:There was speculation that he would not be attending the workouts to rest after slowing down late in the 2008 campaign.
January 31, 2009
Pro Football Weekly reports that Redskins running back Clinton Portis is unsure whether he will perform his offseason workouts with the team in the D.C. area or stick to his usual regimen in Miami, something the coaching staff in Washington is not too keen on. Portis said he would take some time to make his final decision, one he hopes will ultimately benefit the entire team.

Our View:Despite reports to the contrary, Portis insists he and head coach Jim Zorn share a good relationship and that he is looking forward to concentrating on getting prepared for the 2009 season.
