According to NFL.com, Dwight Freeney is active for Super Bowl XLIV.

Dwight Freeney (ankle) is apparently no longer limping, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:Evidence has been mounting for days that he will play, and maybe even start, and this is just the latest piece. Expect him to be a game-time decision, but there's no way he won't be on the field for Super Bowl XLIV.

"Barring any setbacks," Dwight Freeney (ankle) will play in Super Bowl XLIV on Sunday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View:File this one under "obvious." Unless he literally could not walk, there was no way Freeney was not going to go. It's funny that Schefter is the one to break the news, since earlier this week he rather emphatically stated there was no way the dominant defensive end would play. Now the only question is, how effective will he be?

Add NBA legend Willis Reed to the list of people that hope Dwight Freeney plays through his ankle injury and suits up for Super Bowl XLIV on Sunday, according to the Bergen Record.

Our View:"I think Dwight Freeney should do everything he can to play in this game," said Reed, a life-long Louisiana resident, and huge Saints fan. Reed famously played through severe leg pain in the 1970 NBA Finals to help the Knicks to a stirring upset victory over Wilt Chamberlain and the Lakers. He speaks for all of us, Dwight: as long as there's not a chance you'll damage your long-term health, do whatever it takes to play on Sunday.

Dwight Freeney (ankle) did not participate in Colts practice on Friday, according to Peter King of Sports Illustrated.

Our View:This was expected, however. Most now believe he will be active on Sunday, but likely only on obvious passing downs. It's hard to believe he will be a major factor in the outcome of the game.
February 5, 2010
It's looking more and more likely that elite pass-rusher Dwight Freeney (ankle) will be active for Super Bowl XLIV, according to ESPN.

Our View:"He's trending in the right direction," were the words of Colts head coach Jim Caldwell on Friday. "He's getting better, but we'll see. It's still a day-to-day situation." Expect him to be active, but to mostly be used on obvious passing downs.
February 4, 2010
Dwight Freeney did not practice Thursday while nursing his ailing ankle, according to ESPN on twitter.

Our View:Freeney is day-to-day, and said he is feeling a little bit better. The Colts will need the dangerous pass rusher to suit up for Super Bowl 44 against the pass-happy Saints.
February 3, 2010
Updating an earlier report, Dwight Freeney did not practice Wednesday, according to ESPN on twitter.

Our View:There is belief that Freeney will fight through his ailing ankle to play in Super Bowl 44 against the Saints. He could potentially just come in on passing downs.
February 3, 2010
On Wednesday, Dwight Freeney said that his ankle pain is subsiding and that it feels better every day, according to Pro Football Talk.

Our View:It's looking more and more like Freeney will be able to suit up and play on Sunday. While it's unlikely he'll be sent out for a full workload, you can expect him to be out there on third down and in other passing situations.
February 2, 2010
Updating an earlier item, Dwight Freeney (ankle) will not practice this week, according to ESPN. However, this being the Super Bowl Indianapolis is practicing for, he has not been ruled out for next Sunday.

Our View:"Hopefully, towards the end of the week it starts to get better," Freeney said on Tuesday. "The decision will come later on in the week. It's kind of early now." Colts fans across the country will have to hold their breath for the time being.
February 2, 2010
Dwight Freeney (ankle) is doing "everything imaginable" to get himself in game shape for Super Bowl XLIV, according to Edgar Thompson of the Palm Beach Post.

Our View:He says the team is going to wait until Friday or Saturday to make a final decision on his status. At this point, it's clear that even if Freeney does play, he is unlikely to be the disruptive force he normally is. Obviously, that's a tremendous break for Saints quarterback Drew Brees.
February 1, 2010
Dwight Freeney has a third-degree ankle sprain and will be listed as questionable heading into the Super Bowl, according to the Indianapolis Star.

Our View:On one hand, a third-degree sprain is the worst kind and usually involves a torn or ruptured ligament, with surgery often required. On the other hand, in an interview on Sunday, Colts receiver Reggie Wayne said that he had talked to Freeney, and that Freeney said he'd be ready to play against the Saints. This situation is looking more and more like it will come down to a game-time decision and end up hinging on how much pain Freeney can deal with.
January 31, 2010
According to the National Football Post, Dwight Freeney has a torn ligament in his ankle and is considered questionable for the Super Bowl next Sunday.

Our View:As of right now Freeney has a 50-50 chance of playing next Sunday, but if he is unable to go there will be a tremendous amount of pressure on Robert Mathis to pick up the defensive slack. Freeney is working around the clock to ready himself for the big game, but right now it's too dicey to make a call on whether or not he will be.
January 31, 2010
Dwight Freeney (ankle) is facing an "uphill battle" to be ready for Super Bowl XLIV, according to ESPN.

Our View:He is, and will be all week, undergoing intensive treatment on his gimpy ankle, but is said to be struggling with swelling. Expect this to be a very pertinent ongoing storyline in the run up to the big game.
January 29, 2010
Dwight Freeney missed practice for the third straight day Friday, according to the Colts' official website.

Our View:Freeney is dealing with an ankle injury, and is questionable for Super Bowl 44. The dangerous pass rusher will be needed while trying to disrupt quarterback Drew Brees and the Saints' high-powered aerial attack.
January 28, 2010
According to Pro Football Talk, Dwight Freeney's ankle injury is apparently worse than previously reported.

Our View:Freeney almost certainly won't attend the Pro Bowl, and his status for the Super Bowl could be in jeopardy. He sat out Thursday's practice and hasn't been active all week. Monitor his status next week to see if he improves enough to get into the big game.
January 27, 2010
Dwight Freeney sat out today's practice while nursing his ailing ankle, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:The dangerous pass rusher suffered the injury in the AFC title game against New York. Freeney expects to play in Super Bowl 44 against the Saints.
January 26, 2010
Despite spraining his ankle on Sunday against the Jets, elite pass-rusher Dwight Freeney will play in the Super Bowl, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Freeney was already dealing with a foot injury coming into last Sunday's game, however, so he could be kind of banged up when the Colts vie with the Saints for the league title. You should still expect him to be effective, though.
January 22, 2010
Dwight Freeney fully practiced for the third straight day Friday, and is expected to play in the AFC title game versus New York, according to the Jets' official website.

Our View:Freeney played in last week's win over Baltimore, and will be counted on to disrupt rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez. The veteran pass rusher notched 13.5 sacks over 14 games in the regular season.
January 21, 2010
Dwight Freeney (foot) fully practiced for the second straight day Thursday, according to the Colts' official website.

Our View:Freeney was able to play in last week's win over Baltimore, and should be OK for the AFC title game against rookie quarterback Mark Sanchez and the Jets.
January 15, 2010
Dwight Freeney fully practiced for the third straight day Friday, according to the Colts' official website.

Our View:Freeney has been dealing with a foot injury, but is expected to play in Saturday's playoff game against Baltimore. The veteran pass rusher will try to disrupt second-year quarterback Joe Flacco.
January 14, 2010
According to NFL.com, Colts defensive end Dwight Freeney (foot) practiced in full on Thursday.

Our View:Freeney joined Reggie Wayne (knee) and the rest of the members of the Colts injury list on the practice field Thursday. None of the Colts walking wounded were limited at all and they appear to be healthy as ever for Saturday's divisional game against the Ravens.
January 3, 2010
Week 17 inactives: DE Dwight Freeney, WLB Clint Session, RT Ryan Diem, CB Jerraud Powers, PK Adam Vinatieri, DT Antonio Johnson, RB Chad Simpson, and TE Gijon Robinson.

Our View:Matt Stover will handle the kicking duties for Vinatieri who is inactive due to a right knee injury. The Colts will reportedly treat this game in similar fashion to a fourth preseason tilt, so their starters are very risky plays. At running back, look for Donald Brown (illness) and Mike Hart (ankle) to share most of the load even though Joseph Addai (shoulder) is active.
