Giants' quarterback Eli Manning was not listed on the team's injury report on Tuesday, according to the Twitter page of beat writer Ralph Vacchiano. Manning's foot appears to be close to completely healed.

Our View:Eli was never in great danger of missing time with the injury, but it's good to know the team feels his foot is improving. He has struggled a bit over the last two weeks, which is a much bigger concern for the Giants than his foot.
October 25, 2009
Eli Manning was not in top form Sunday night against Arizona, going 19-of-37 for 243 yards with one touchdown and three interceptions.

Our View:Eli opened the season strong but has slowed down the last two weeks. Hold onto him, but he's not necessarily a must-start and doesn't have the best matchup next week at Philadelphia.
October 25, 2009
Barring setbacks or further injuries, quarterback Eli Manning should be able to manage his heel injury for the rest of the season with a limited practice schedule and regular treatment, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Manning likes to take the majority of the snaps during practice, but has reportedly accepted a scaled-back slate as a necessary step to remain in the lineup for the whole season. After six starts, he is on target to have the best season of his his six-year career, with 11 touchdowns against three interceptions for a 102.2-passer rating.
October 21, 2009
The Star-Ledger reports that Eli Manning was limited in Wednesday's practice due his foot injury. He is still expected to play this Sunday against the Cardinals.

Our View:Feel free to plug him in your lineups as the Cards carry the 31st ranked pass defense. Manning had his worst game of the season last week and we expect some renewed focus against Kurt Warner and the Cardinals.
October 19, 2009
Eli Manning was seen yelling at Ahman Bradshaw on the field during the Giants' blowout loss in New Orleans on Sunday, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:It was a rare display of raw emotion for the New York quarterback. He was upset at a Bradshaw protection breakdown, which both contributed to bad communication and crowd noise. Not that there was any doubt left, but Manning is firmly in charge of the Giants offense.
October 18, 2009
Eli Manning struggled in Sunday's 48-27 loss at New Orleans, as he only completed 14-of-31 passes for 178 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Our View:Perhaps Manning was hindered by his ailing foot, or maybe the Giants were not ready to handle an aggressive Saints' defense that was well-rested while coming off their bye. David Carr replaced him in the game, and completed 4-of-5 passes for 72 yards, with a touchdown and no interceptions.
October 18, 2009
Eli Manning is active for today's game at New Orleans, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View:Manning is still dealing with his foot ailment, but should be fine for fantasy duty in a potential shootout with the Saints.
October 16, 2009
Jenny Vrentas of the Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that Eli Manning and Ahmad Bradshaw were both limited in practice on Friday. Both players are expected to play this week.

Our View:The Giants are getting close to being fully healthy, as everyone practiced in full today besides Manning and Bradshaw. This is good news for the Giants as they prepare to battle the Saints for NFC supremacy this week.
October 14, 2009
Eli Manning (foot) will be a limited participant in Giants practice on Wednesday, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.

Our View:This statement doesn't carry nearly the same drama as it did last week, as we now know Manning won't be missing any time as he battles plantar fasciitis. Expect him to play, and to play well, against the Saints this weekend.
October 11, 2009
Eli Manning noted that his injured foot felt great after today's blowout win against Oakland, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Manning does not believe he made the injury worse in any way during his two quarters of action. He should be ready for Week 6 at New Orleans, barring a setback.
October 11, 2009
Eli Manning completed 8-of-10 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 5 victory over Oakland.

Our View:It's kind of scary to think what Manning would have accomplished over a complete game, as he exited late in the second quarter with a 28-7 lead. Peyton's brother is one of the hottest quarterbacks in the league, with nine touchdown passes against one interception in the last four games.
October 11, 2009
Eli Manning has been replaced late in the second quarter by David Carr with the Giants up 28-7 over Oakland.

Our View:Manning, who completed 8-of-10 passes for 173 yards and two touchdowns, was taken out of the game for precautionary reasons. He will probably sit out the entire second half unless the Raiders stage a miraculous comeback.
October 11, 2009
Eli Manning will start against Oakland and play for as long as he can, according to John Clayton of ESPN.

Our View:Manning is somewhat of a risky start as he could be on a short leash if the game turns into a blowout. Also, we expect the Giants to pound the Raiders' 26th ranked run defense (146.2 yards per game) with a heavy dose of Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw.
October 11, 2009
The New York Post believes Giants quarterback Eli Manning will start Sunday's game against the Raiders. Barring some sort of setback this morning, it looks like Manning will be under center today.

Our View:The team hasn't made any kind of announcement yet, but the general concensus is that Eli will start for the Giants today. His heel will obviously be in pain, but it will feel much better when he realizes his team is facing the Raiders today.
October 10, 2009
Eli Manning is expected to be available to play on Sunday, according to the Twitter page of Ralph Vacchiano. The Giants have passed on promoting quarterback Rhett Bomar from the practice squad, meaning Manning and David Carr are the only two active quarterbacks on the roster.

Our View:Whether or not the team activated Bomar was kind of the measuring stick on whether Eli would be able to go, because they wouldn't go into a game with only one healthy quarterback. No word yet if he will start, but it looks very likely that he will be in there.
October 10, 2009
Giants' beat writer Ralph Vacchiano is reporting on Twitter that quarterback Eli Manning participated in the team's walkthrough on Saturday morning. Vacchiano suggests that this is a good sign that Manning will play tomorrow.

Our View:This is a great sign for Manning owners, but we are still unlikely to know his status until tomorrow morning. Manning owners should check back before game-time, but it is starting to look like he will go.
October 9, 2009
Updating a previous report, Giants' quarterback Eli Manning reportedly took some reps with the first team at practice on Friday, according to beat writer Ralph Vacchiano. Manning was not limping noticeably and he even did some drop-back passing.

Our View:Giant fans should be very encouraged by this news. Manning well likely remain in question until close to game time on Sunday, but today was a very big first step to him playing this weekend.
October 9, 2009
According to Pat Hanlon, a veteran member of the Giants' organization, quarterback Eli Manning will try to participate in practice on Friday. Manning has been out this week with a heel injury.

Our View:This is a very good sign for the Giants, as it was thought that Eli would miss practice all week. If he can go, even in a limited capacity, it will greatly increase his chances of play Sunday. We will keep you updated as the day progresses.
October 8, 2009
According to Mike Garafolo on Twitter, there isn't much optimism around the organization that Eli Manning (heel) will be able to go on Sunday.

Our View:Garafolo stated that it's "too far away from Sunday to say he'll be out but a lot of progress must be made." So it sounds like Eli is still a ways off. There's still a chance he'll suit up, but it's looking less and less likely as week progresses. He'll be a game-time decision.
October 8, 2009
FoxSports.com is reporting that Giants' quarterback Eli Manning sat out practice for the second straight day on Thursday. Manning has been sidelined this week with an injured right heel. David Carr took all first-team snaps in Manning's absence.

Our View:Manning owners should start to get a little nervous. He said the injury is feeling better, but he also said that he will not play if he is unable to run the entire game plan or if he would risk injuring the heel further. His status will likely remain in question until close to game-time, so check back periodically and make sure you have someone ready to go in case he can't play.
October 7, 2009
Eli Manning (heel) is not practicing on Wednesday, according to Ralph Vacchiano of the New York Daily News.

Our View:Giants coach Tom Coughlin did, however, say that Manning is "feeling better," and "making progress." While he certainly could end up playing against the Raiders this weekend, you need to have a contingency plan in place in case he does not. The fact that New York is playing the woeful Raiders could influence their decision, as well.
October 6, 2009
Updating an earlier item, the New York Daily News reports that the Giants did not violate NFL injury report rules when they failed to disclose Eli Manning's plantar fasciitis.

Our View:"We accept the distinction between plantar fasciitis as an irritation that is not a reportable injury versus a sprain, strain, fracture, dislocation, or in this case an injured plantar fascia that is reportable," league spokesman Greg Aiello was quoted as saying. So now the Giants just have to worry about getting Manning healthy, and not becoming the second New York football team in a month to get fined for circumventing NFL injury report rules.
October 6, 2009
Pro Football Talk is reporting that the Giants "hid" Eli Manning's foot injury for the past few weeks.

Our View:He has apparently been dealing with plantar fasciitis for a few weeks, but had never been listed on the injury report. You may remember that the Jets were just fined a handsome sum for not properly disclosing a Brett Favre arm injury last season. Could a fine be far behind for the Giants?
October 5, 2009
The Giants are stating that Eli Manning will not seek a second opinion on his injured right foot after a contrary report stated that he will, according to Ralph Vacchiano's (NY Daily News) twitter page.

Our View:It is believed that Manning is dealing with plantar fasciitis, and his availability for Week 5 against Oakland is uncertain.
October 5, 2009
ESPN's Chris Mortensen is reporting that Giants quarterback Eli Manning could have plantar fasciitis.

Our View:As Mortensen puts it, plantar fasciitis is a "painful injury" that runs from the heel all the way across bottom of foot. Many athletes have played through it before, famously Albert Pujols, but it can be extremely difficult. More as it develops.
October 4, 2009
The Giants do not believe the heel injury Eli Manning suffered late in the team's win over the Chiefs on Sunday is serious, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:The heel is supposedly only bruised, but Manning did admit to some "discomfort," and will likely undergo an MRI on Monday. Should the results bring back bad news, David Carr would start at quarterback for the Giants in Week 5. With the team playing the Raiders then, it might not be bad idea for them to hold Manning out if he is not 100 percent.
October 4, 2009
Eli Manning lit up the Chiefs in Sunday's 27-16 win at Arrowhead Stadium, as he completed 20-of-34 passes for 292 yards, with three touchdowns and one interception.

Our View:Manning probably would have reached 300 yards if not leaving with a bruised heel in the fourth quarter. He fired seven touchdown passes over his last three games.
October 4, 2009
Eli Manning suffered a foot injury in the fourth quarter of today's game at Kansas City.

Our View:Manning is on the sidelines with his right shoe off, and his early diagnosis is a bruised heel. David Carr replaced him at quarterback, but the team expects Manning to be OK for Week 5 against Oakland.
September 27, 2009
Eli Manning completed 14-of-24 passes for 161 yards and two touchdowns in the Week 3 victory over Tampa Bay.

Our View:Manning, who committed zero turnovers, posted his third consecutive solid outing this season. After three games he's averaging 249 passing yards per game with five touchdowns against one interception. The Giants visit Kansas City at Arrowhead Stadium next weekend where Peyton's brother could stay on a roll.
September 20, 2009
Eli Manning completed 25-of-38 passes for 330 yards and two touchdowns to beat the Cowboys 33-31 on Sunday. He completed 10 passes to both Steve Smith and Mario Manningham.

Our View:Manning looked poised throughout the game as the Giants threw the ball 12 more times than they ran it. He seemed to have a very good chemistry with both Smith and Manningham, perhaps solving the wide receiver questions for the Giants.
September 13, 2009
Eli Manning led the Giants in Sunday's 23-17 win over the rival Redskins at the Meadowlands, as he completed 20-of-29 passes for 256 yards with a touchdown and an interception. His touchdown went 30 yards on a strike to Mario Manningham.

Our View:The former Super Bowl MVP is off to a nice start in 2009, and will next challenge the Cowboys on their home turf in Week 2.
August 14, 2009
According to the New York Daily News, Eli Manning has finally signed his six-year, $97.5 million contract extension after nine days of deliberating.

Our View:Manning will now officially earn $106.9 million over the next seven years making him the highest paid player in the league. Apparently the delay with the contract was related to "marketing language" and the two sides struggled a bit to get around differing endorsement issues between the two sides. Looks like all is well now. Especially for Eli.
August 13, 2009
ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that the New York Giants are close to finalizing Eli Manning's contract extension. The two side are still trying to work out some language in the contract before it becomes official.

Our View:This deal was announced over a week ago, but it still hasn't been finalized. It's hard to tell what the problem is, but it is not with the terms of the deal, so when Eli signs it he will still be the highest paid player in the league.
August 5, 2009
According to ESPN.com, the Giants and quarterback Eli Manning have agreed to terms on a six-year $97 million contract extension.

Our View:This is big-time money for Peyton's little bro. With this season included the contract is worth $106.9 million. Eli is now the highest paid player in the NFL and owns an average salary of $15.3 million a year. He gets $35 million guaranteed and the deal keeps him and the Giants bound until 2015. The former number one overall pick was in the final year of his contract.
July 2, 2009
ESPN reports there is "no way" contract talks will become contentious between the New York Giants and franchise quarterback Eli Manning.

Our View:Eli is asking for a king's ransom, but the Giants are determined to keep the face of their franchise happy and will surely do so without a hitch.
June 19, 2009
Eli Manning is reportedly asking for $20 million a year in contract negotiations, according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Eli has developed into a great quarterback, and has won a Superbowl, but then again, so did Trent Dilfer. Eli doesn't really seem like a $20 million talent, but that's likely in the ballpark of what the Giants are going to have to pay to keep him.
April 30, 2009
The Giants have signed undrafted free agents: cornerback Bruce Johnson (Miami), defensive tackle Dwayne Hendricks (Miami) and tight end Darius Hill (Ball State), according to the New York Daily News.

Our View:Hill is thin for a tight end, but could compete for a gig as an H-back. Johnson was a decent prospect before a dismal senior campaign at Miami. Hendricks could end up on the practice squad.
March 10, 2009
Eli and the rest of the Manning family were recognized with their service to the state of Mississippi with Manning Day on Tuesday, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Eli and Archie Manning, both All-American's at Ole Miss, were in attendance at the state capital.
February 1, 2009
The New York Daily News and Newark Star-Ledger both dispute a recent story in the National Football Post indicating the Eli Manning is nearing a contract extention with the Giants that would make him one of the highest paid players in the league.

Our View:The Giants would be very wise to settle their wide receiver and running back situations before handing a monstrous contract to a game-manager. Plaxico Burress' status is up in the air, and both Brandon Jacobs and Derrick Ward are free agents. Manning looks good on most days only because of the Giants exceptional defense, Burress' clutch plays, elite running backs (dating back to Tiki Barber), and some excellent special teams work. It's scary to think how good this team could be with one of the NFL's true elite quarterbacks.
January 31, 2009
The National Football Post reports that the New York Giants and Eli Manning will announce a new deal by next week that will make him one of the highest-paid players in the NFL.

Our View:Manning should send the Giants defense and Plaxico Burress a hefty portion of that check for making him look like a better quarterback than he truly is. Here are his numbers in the five games (including playoffs) Manning played without Burress: 74-of-137 (54%), 2 TDs, 4 INTs.
January 14, 2009
Eli Manning's contract expires after the 2009 season, and the Giants may look to sign him to an extension in the coming months. The New York Daily News speculates that Manning's next deal could be worth worth $15 million per season, which would rank as the highest in the NFL. "That's money we're going to be happy to pay," a team source says.

Our View:Unfortunately, real money won't equate to a rise in fantasy value. Manning's yardage and touchdown totals have been stagnant over the last four seasons, and he is unlikely to make a noticeable leap while the Giants continue to run the ball so effectively.
January 13, 2009
Giants quarterback Eli Manning has let it be known that he would like wideout Plaxico Burress back with the team next season, reports the New York Post. "He's a tremendous player and ... we just gotta see what happens there. Hopefully you learn from your mistakes," Manning said.

Our View:The Giants were clearly not the same team offensively without their best play maker. Burress' situation will affect Manning's fantasy status next season as well. In Weeks 13-17 without Plaxico, Manning completed just 56 percent of his passes, threw for 200 or more yards once, and tossed three scores with three interceptions.
January 11, 2009
Eli Manning completed just 15 of 29 passes for 169 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions as the Giants lost at home to the Eagles 23-11 on Sunday.

Our View:After an exceptional run through last season's playoffs, today's showing was certainly a disappointment. There's little doubt that he missed his No. 1 receiver Plaxico Burress in the game.
January 9, 2009
Weather.com reports that Sunday's Eagles at Giants game will feature a high of 32 degrees, a 50 percent chance of snow, and winds as much as 20 mph.

Our View:The weather conditions seem to foreshadow a reliance on the running game and perhaps a reluctance to kick field goals.
January 5, 2009
Eli Manning commented on Sunday's playoff match-up against the Eagles, according to Scout.com. Manning said, "The Eagles are a very good football team that has done a tremendous job of battling back during the latter part of the season. Obviously, we had two very tough regular season games against them. Last week was good for us. We got some good work in during those two practices, but it's good that we now know who we are playing. We are excited to get to work this week. We need a good week of practice and preparation because it's about execution at this time of year."

Our View:The Giants split the regular season series with the Eagles, with Philadelphia winning the last one 20-14 at the Meadowlands. Manning threw three touchdown passes over the two games with one interception.
