Newsbreakers
November 20, 2009
Sammy Morris is questionable for Sunday's game against the Jets, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Morris missed the last three games with a knee injury, but appears to be nearing his return to the gridiron. Fred Taylor (ankle) will remain out, so Laurence Maroney should continue to handle the bulk of the workload at running back on game day.
November 15, 2009
Patriots inactives: RB Sammy Morris, RB Fred Taylor, T Matt Light, DE Jarvis Green, LB Eric Alexander, G Rich Ohrnberger, CB Shawn Springs, DE Ty Warren.

Our View:Laurence Maroney will start at running back with both Morris (knee) and Taylor (ankle) out. Star defensive end Warren will be missed while the club tries to slow down Peyton Manning and the Colts on their home turf at Lucas Oil Stadium.
November 14, 2009
Sammy Morris has been ruled out for Sunday night's game at Indianapolis, according to the Patriots' official twitter page.

Our View:Morris will be missing his third straight game with a knee injury. Fred Taylor (ankle) is also out, so Laurence Maroney should handle the bulk of the workload at running back. The Colts are ranked 14th in run defense.
November 13, 2009
Sammy Morris (knee) participated in Patriots practice on Friday, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.

Our View:He still isn't likely to play this weekend, however. Week 11 seems like a much more realistic possibility for his return. What role he will serve is uncertain, as Laurence Maroney has seemingly nailed down the team's feature back role in his absence.

Sammy Morris missed today's practice while recovering from his knee injury, according to NFL.com.

Our View:Morris missed the last two games, and is uncertain to return Sunday night at Indianapolis. Laurence Maroney has been filling in as the No. 1 running back with Fred Taylor (ankle) also down.
November 9, 2009
Sammy Morris (knee) was seen walking in the Patriots' locker room without any "discernible" limp on Monday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Morris hasn't carried the ball since Week 5. In his absence, Laurence Maroney has done a semi-decent job of solidifying the position for the Pats. If Morris returns this weekend, expect the pair to be involved in some kind of time share.
November 8, 2009
Week 9 inactives: RB Sammy Morris, RB Fred Taylor, WR Julian Edelman, CB Jonathan Wilhite, LB Eric Alexander, OT Matt Light, OG Rich Ohrnberger, and DE Jarvis Green.

Our View:As expected, QB Tom Brady (shoulder) and WR Randy Moss (shoulder) are active and will start. TE Ben Watson (back) is active and will play, while DE Ty Warren (ankle) is active and will start. With both Taylor and Morris sidelined this week, RB Laurence Maroney draws the start and Kevin Faulk will handle the third-down duties.
November 6, 2009
Sammy Morris will miss Week 9 against Miami due to his ailing knee, according to WEEI.com.

Our View:It is uncertain when Morris may be ready to return to the gridiron, and should remain held out of fantasy lineups until further notice.
November 5, 2009
Sammy Morris missed practice for the second straight day Thursday, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View:Morris is on the shelf indefinitely while recovering from a knee injury. Fred Taylor (ankle) is also not practicing, meaning Laurence Maroney should handle the bulk of the workload at running back Sunday against Miami.
November 4, 2009
According to the Boston Herald, running back Sammy Morris did not practice on Wednesday and is out indefinitely due to a knee injury.

Our View:There is still no timetable for Morris' return and Laurence Maroney owners will continue to reap the rewards while Morris is sidelined.
October 23, 2009
Sammy Morris (knee) did not travel to London with the Patriots for their game against the Buccaneers this Sunday, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:That Laurence Maroney flier you took just got a little more valuable. Of course, it's entirely possible that Tom Brady wants to show everyone across the pound some real vertical American football, but it's officially safe to insert Maroney into your starting lineup. Also not traveling to England with the team was running back Fred Taylor, receiver Julian Edelman and tackle Matt Light.
October 22, 2009
Sammy Morris missed practice for the second straight day Thursday, according to the Boston Globe. He is dealing with a knee injury.

Our View:Morris is not likely to play Sunday in a favorable matchup at Tampa Bay. Laurence Maroney should get the majority of carries with Fred Taylor (ankle) also ailing.
October 21, 2009
The Boston Globe reports that all-purpose back Sammy Morris (knee) did not practice on Wednesday.

Our View:Morris likely won't play on Sunday, making Laurence Maroney the back to receive the "bulk" of the carries. But in Bill Belichick's system one never knows. Kevin Faulk will probably play passing downs and BenJarvus Green-Ellis would get the short-yardage plays.
October 18, 2009
Sammy Morris left Sunday's game in the first quarter with a knee injury.

Our View:Morris injured himself while catching a three-yard reception on a snow-covered field and did not return. No word on the seriousness of the injury, but if he's out for an extended period of time Laurence Maroney could be a valuable waiver pickup.
September 11, 2009
Sammy Morris was limited in Friday's practice while nursing a finger injury, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View:Morris is banged up, and is not a recommended fantasy option for Week 1, namely as it is uncertain who will handle the bulk of the workload in the Patriots' ground attack.
September 2, 2009
Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe believes that Sammy Morris has slipped to fifth on the Patriots' depth chart at running back.

Our View:Kevin Faulk, Fred Taylor, Laurence Maroney, and BenJarvus Green-Ellis are listed as the top four backs. Reiss added that Morris could still make the team if the Patriots do not carry a fourth offensive tackle. Morris is the best goal-line back among the group though, and his job is probably safer than Reiss believes.
August 13, 2009
Sammy Morris led the Patriots in rushing in tonight's 27-25 preseason win at Philadelphia, as he carried the rock 12 times for 45 yards, with a long of 16. He also caught one pass for 14 receiving yards.

Our View:Morris could be the best all-around back on the Patriots' roster, and it would not be surprising to see him lead the club in rushing attemps in 2009 - potentially making him a nice late-round value pick in fantasy drafts.
June 10, 2009
Running back Sammy Morris was absent from the start of a three-day minicamp on Wednesday, the Boston Herald reports.

Our View:The paper does not give a reason for Morris to be missing, so we're awaiting further word. Unless this is injury-related, though, we won't be too concerned about a vet like Morris missing time in June.
