March 14, 2010
Updating an earlier report, LaDainian Tomlinson has agreed to a deal with the Jets, according to Jay Glazer's twitter page. It is a two-year contract.

Our View:Tomlinson will provide veteran depth at running back after Thomas Jones departed for Kansas City, but his best days seem to be behind him, as he averaged just 3.3 yards per carry with San Diego in 2009. He has had durability issues as of late too. The Vikings will have to continue their search for a No. 2 running back behind stud Adrian Peterson.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, LaDainian Tomlinson will soon sign with the New York Jets.

Our View:That's according to "three people with knowledge of the process." Expect official word to come some time Sunday afternoon.
March 13, 2010
LaDainian Tomlinson stayed overnight in the New York City area on Friday night, fueling speculation that he may soon be signing with the Jets, according to the Newark Star-Ledger.

Our View:L.T. could certainly expect more touches in New York than Minnesota, so signing with Gang Green makes a lot of sense on paper. A resolution to his job search could come as early as today, so stay tuned.
March 12, 2010
LaDainian Tomlinson will have dinner with GM Mike Tannenbaum and other members of the Jets' staff tonight, and will stay on the East Coast overnight, according to ESPN.

Our View:Tomlinson noted that he will consider his other offers before making a decision on his future. Minnesota is among the other interested clubs. The Jets could use depth after Thomas Jones departed for Kansas City.
March 11, 2010
According to Judd Zulgad on Twitter, LaDainian Tomlinson was seen leaving the Vikings' winter park carrying a Minnesota jersey and shaking hands with team officials.

Our View:This certainly doesn't mean that he's a Viking now but it's an interesting sign. Teams don't hand out mock jerseys to free agents if the meeting goes poorly, so this is something to follow. He didn't leave with a contract, but the Vikings certainly wowed him, making his upcoming meeting with the Jets more interesting.

If LaDainian Tomlinson does not sign with the Vikings on Thursday, he is scheduled to visit the New York Jets on Friday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View:Even with Thomas Jones gone in New York, L.T. would be joining a crowded back-field (Shonn Greene, Leon Washington). Of course, in Minnesota he'd be behind Adrian Peterson, so neither situation is exactly ideal. One thing is clear, wherever he ends up, his fantasy value will be extremely limited.
March 11, 2010
LaDainian Tomlinson sounds poised to sign with the Vikings on Thursday, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View:He's looking like he will be Minnesota's replacement for the recently departed third-down back Chester Taylor. More importantly, he should be a mentor for Adrian Peterson. Who better to teach the best running back in football how to hold onto the ball than the former best running back in football? Stay tuned.

LaDainian Tomlinson will be in Minnesota to meet with the Vikings on Thursday, and if the two sides can agree on playing time and money, he could be announced as a Viking shortly thereafter, according to the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.

Our View:This news shouldn't really come as too big of a surprise; whenever a free agent meets with a team, if the two sides can agree on playing time and money, a contract agreement will inherently be reached. Still, it looks like LT to the Vikings is becoming more and more of a realistic happening, as Minnesota has identified him as their No. 1 target to replace Chester Taylor as their third-down back and backup to Adrian Peterson. The ball now appears to be in Tomlinson's court.
March 9, 2010
LaDainian Tomlinson has reportedly talked with the Vikings, as well as a few other undisclosed teams, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View:Tomlinson would seem to be a nice fit in Minnesota. The Vikings are in need of a complementary back to Adrian Peterson following Chester Taylor's departure, and Tomlinson is a fine in pass protection and as a receiver, and Tomlinson is looking to sign with a contender (not to mention that a backfield with LT and AP would simply be cool). We'll have to wait and see what happens here, but it's clear the Tomlinson will receive a nice amount of interest as long as his asking price isn't too high and if he's willing to accept a role as a backup.
March 8, 2010
The Vikings are believed to be interested in LaDainian Tomlinson, according to the Star Tribune.

Our View:The Vikings are looking for a No. 2 running back after Chester Taylor departed to rival Chicago. Tomlinson is no longer a stud rusher, but can still be effective in a complementary role.

The Texans continue to have no interest in free agent running back LaDainian Tomlinson, according to the Houston Chronicle's John McClain.

Our View:According to owner Bob McNair, the team has no interest in "free agents on the downside of their careers," and wants players that are "young and hungry." Stay tuned.
February 22, 2010
Updating an earlier report, the Texans won't likely be pursuing LaDainian Tomlinson following his release from the Chargers, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:The Texans would like to upgrade at running back, but they want youth and determination at the position - not a player nearing the end of his career, like Tomlinson.
February 22, 2010
San Diego released LaDainian Tomlinson on Monday afternoon, according to the Chargers' Twitter page.

Our View:We all figured this was going to come at some point this offseason, though it's still shocking to see it in such an official manner. After nine seasons with the Bolts, LT will leave San Diego as the franchise's all-time leading rusher with 12,490 yards and 138 touchdowns, not to mention 530 receptions for another 3,955 yards and 15 touchdowns. Unfortunately, he's been on the steady decline the past couple seasons, going from averaging 5.2 yards per carry in 2006 to 4.7 in 2007, followed by 3.8 in 2008 and a career-low 3.3 this past season. He'll surely find work with another team, though it remains to be seen whether anyone will give him a chance to start; he'll be 31 entering the 2010 campaign with 2,880 carries under his belt.
February 11, 2010
LaDainian Tomlinson doesn't look like a fit for the Saints in 2010, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune. The Super Bowl champions are expected to keep both Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas this offseason.

Our View:The only way L.T. could work out in New Orleans is if he was willing to accept short-yardage duties, and for a bargain-basement price. Expect him to be aiming higher than that this offseason.
February 10, 2010
The Texans are most likely not interested in running back LaDainian Tomlinson, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:Reportedly, the team is not interested in any running back who is on his "last legs." They want a "young, hungry back who fits their style." That style presumably being high-flying and pass-catching. L.T. will have to look elsewhere for employment.
February 7, 2010
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported on NFL Countdown on Sunday morning that the Texans, Seahawks and Saints are all possible landing spots for LaDainian Tomlinson in 2010.

Our View:He says the Texans, eager to shore up a fumble-happy and ineffective back-field, are the early favorites for L.T. Expect many more teams to be connected to the future Hall-of-Famer in the coming weeks.
February 4, 2010
The Chargers are expected to release LaDainian Tomlinson at some point before March 5, when he'd be due a $2 million roster bonus if they still held his rights, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Our View:Tomlinson's current contract would net him $5 million for next season, a figure that the Chargers are highly unlikely to be willing to pay, and also one that LT said he was not willing to re-negotiate. With that said, it seems safe to assume he'll be playing in a new uniform for the first time in his career next season, and while he's sure to draw interest on the market, it remains to be seen whether he'll get a chance to start.
February 2, 2010
LaDainian Tomlinson stated that he won't take a pay cut to stick around with the Chargers, according to radio station 1090 in San Diego.

Our View:Tomlinson is uncertain what his future in the NFL holds, and noted that he was displeased with changes within the Chargers' organization. The 30-year-old vet held a career-worst 3.3 yards per carry average in 2009, and his stock will likely be low on the market.
January 18, 2010
LaDainian Tomlinson stated that he intends to play in 2010, according to Kevin Acee's (San Diego Union-Tribune) twitter page.

Our View:The 30-year-old vet held a career-worst 3.3 yards per carry average in 2009, but apparently believes he still has a bit left in the tank. He is likely done as a featured back, but could potentially find a supporting role if released by San Diego.
