Newsbreakers
October 25, 2009
Carson Palmer was nearly perfect against the Bears on Sunday, going 20-of-24 for 233 yards and a season-high five touchdowns.

Our View:Palmer was able to find Chad Ochocinco open all day long and made Chicago's secondary look like a bunch of high schoolers. Palmer has a bye coming up and then two tough matchups against Pittburgh and Baltimore but should continue to post big-time numbers after that.
October 16, 2009
Carson Palmer is probable for Sunday's home game against Houston, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Palmer is dealing with a sprained left thumb, but should be good to go on game day. The Texans' defense is ranked 23rd in total yards allowed per game.
October 15, 2009
Carson Palmer fully practiced Thursday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He sustained a sprained left thumb last week at Baltimore.

Our View:Palmer should be able to play Sunday against the Texans, who are ranked 23rd defensively in yards allowed per game.
October 11, 2009
Carson Palmer suffered a sprained left thumb during the Week 5 game against the Ravens. He has stayed in the contest, but he has a wrap around his left hand/wrist and is handing off with his right hand.

Our View:Palmer is playing through the pain right now, but he looks awkward handing the ball off.
October 11, 2009
Carson Palmer has put a wrap on his left wrist during the fourth quarter of the Week 5 game against the Ravens. His hand/wrist was stepped on at the end of the previous drive.

Our View:Palmer is clearly in some pain because he is currently handing off with the right hand rather than the left. He is still playing, though.
October 4, 2009
Carson Palmer completed 23-of-44 passes for 230 yards with two touchdowns against one interception in the overtime victory over Cleveland.

Our View:Palmer owners who started him were likely agitated until he connected with Chad Ochocinco for his second touchdown pass late in the fourth quarter. For now Palmer is more of a fantasy backup than starter, but he's heating up with six touchdown passes in the last three games. Next week the degree of difficulty goes up exponentially with a road game at Baltimore.
September 20, 2009
Carson Palmer completed 15-of-23 passes for 185 yards with three touchdowns against two interceptions in the Week 2 win over Green Bay.

Our View:After failing to find the end zone last weekend against Denver, Palmer looked much better the second time out. However, the success could be short lived, as the Bengals draw the Steel Curtain at home in Week 3.
September 13, 2009
Carson Palmer (ankle) is active and will start in Week 1 against the Broncos.

Our View:We had no doubts about Palmer's status, but this note simply confirms that he is safe to start.
September 9, 2009
Carson Palmer fully practiced with the Bengals Wednesday, according to Joe Reedy's (Cincinnati Enquirer) twitter page.

Our View:Palmer has not been having issues in his recovery from a sprained ankle, and should be ready to go for Sunday's favorable match-up with Denver at Paul Brown Stadium.
September 7, 2009
Carson Palmer practiced with the Bengals Monday, according to Joe Reedy's (Cincinnati Enquirer) twitter page.

Our View:Palmer did not have any issues with his ankle, and should be ready to start in Week 1 against the Broncos, who fielded the 26th ranked pass defense in 2008.
September 2, 2009
Carson Palmer (sprained ankle) will not play in the Bengals' final preseason game against the Colts on Thursday night, but will be ready for Week 1, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View:Palmer is fast becoming one of the creakiest players in the league, but there is no reason to believe at this point that he will not be ready for the beginning of the season. How quickly he gets hurt again is another matter.
September 1, 2009
Carson Palmer looked OK while running some drills with the Bengals in practice Tuesday, according to Joe Reedy's (Cincinnati Enquirer) twitter page.

Our View:The drills were run at half-speed, but it is still encouraging to see Palmer get some work while recovering from his sprained ankle. He looks to remain on target to battle the Broncos in Week 1.
September 1, 2009
According to the Associated Press, Bengals' quarterback Carson Palmer may play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Colts. Palmer has been out for three weeks with an ankle injury, but he returned to practice and threw to receivers for 30 minutes on Monday.

Our View:Palmer probably doesn't need to play Thursday, but it is a good sign that he looks like he will be able to. He should be fine for Week 1 barring a setback, and it looks like the ankle shouldn't be a problem for him this season.
August 30, 2009
According to the Twitter page of Bengals' beat writer Joe Reedy, quarterback Carson Palmer is expected to practice on Sunday for the Bengals. Palmer has been out since injuring his ankle earlier this summer.

Our View:Palmer hasn't decided for sure how much he will do today, but it will be very reassuring for anyone who drafted him if he gets back on the field today. Palmer should be fine for Week 1, but his injury history remains a concern.
August 29, 2009
Carson Palmer (sprained ankle) is not likely to practice on Saturday, and is doubtful for the team's preseason game next Thursday against the Colts, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:The team says their only concern for Palmer is having him ready for Week 1. Don't expect him to practice or play going forward this preseason unless he is unquestionably 100 percent.
August 26, 2009
Carson Palmer has been ruled out for Thursday's preseason game against St. Louis while recovering from his sprained ankle, according to ESPN.

Our View:There is belief that the Bengals may hold him out for the remainder of the preseason as a precaution as well. That will be decided by how his ankle progresses. He is missing significant practice time since suffering the injury on August 14, and hopefully he won't be rusty for Week 1 against Denver.
August 24, 2009
SI.com is reporting that Bengals' quarterback Carson Palmer did not practice with the team on Monday and that he is unlikely to play in the team's preseason game on Thursday against the Rams. Palmer is still dealing with a sprained left ankle.

Our View:Palmer remains confident that he will be ready to go for the season opener, and for now fantasy owners should feel pretty safe. With his injury history, any missed time is cause for concern, especially since he hasn't played since last October, but he is good enough that it shouldn't affect him too badly.
August 23, 2009
Carson Palmer threw on the side during Sunday's practice, according to the Bengals' official website. He then went inside to work out with strength and conditioning coach Chip Morton and rehab trainer Nick Cosgray.

Our View:Palmer can walk, but noted that there is no change in his mildly sprained left ankle. His ankle is tender when he pivots and pushes, but did not have a limp after his workout. He looks to be on target to be ready for Week 1 against Denver.
August 22, 2009
Bengals' beat writer Joe Reedy is reporting on his Twitter page that quarterback Carson Palmer did not practice at all on the field on Saturday. Palmer reportedly did rehab work inside the stadium.

Our View:Palmer is still suffering from his high ankle sprain, but apparently he is walking without a limp. He should be fine for the start of the season, but don't look for him to see a ton of work in the rest of the team's preseason games.
August 22, 2009
Carson Palmer (high ankle sprain) is questionable for the team's preseason game this Thursday against the Rams, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Expect the Bengals to play it extraordinarily safe with the fragile Palmer, and for him to play a series at most if he does suit up.
August 17, 2009
Carson Palmer has been ruled out for Thursday's preseason game while nursing a mild-to-moderate ankle sprain, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:Palmer could miss even more time in the preseason if he has a high-ankle sprain, but he should not be dropped down draft boards as of now.
August 15, 2009
Carson Palmer could miss the Bengals' next preseason game after suffering a high-ankle sprain in Friday's game against New Orleans, according to their official team website.

Our View:Palmer is the general of the Bengals' offense, and the club will be cautious with him to prevent further injury. His fantasy stock should not drop as of now.
August 14, 2009
Carson Palmer apparently suffered a left high-ankle sprain in tonight's preseason game against the Saints, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Palmer was sporting a boot on his injured leg after the game, but noted it was mainly for precautionary measures. He believes the injury is minor, and is hopeful of playing in the Bengals' next preseason game Thursday at New England.
August 14, 2009
Carson Palmer fared well in Friday's 17-7 preseason loss at New Orleans, as he completed 7-of-11 passes for 133 yards, with no touchdowns and an interception.

Our View:Palmer's fantasy stock will rise if he continues to perform well in the preseason while trying to bounce back from an injury-spoiled 2008 campaign.
August 7, 2009
Carson Palmer noted that he feels confident after participating in Friday's scrimmage, according to ESPN. Palmer said, "I feel good. I feel confident in what I am doing personally, confident in what we are doing as an offense. I keep saying the same thing over and over: We just need to keep getting better. I need to keep getting better."

Our View:This is encouraging as Palmer attempts to bounce back from a disappointing 2008 campaign that was spoiled by an elbow injury. His fantasy stock looks to be back on the rise.
August 3, 2009
According to ESPN.com, Bengals' quarterback Carson Palmer returned to the practice field on Monday after missing time Saturday and Sunday while dealing with an illness. Palmer was suffering from flu-like symptoms, and his absence had nothing to do with any previous injuries.

Our View:Palmer was just a bit under the weather, but he is looking just fine today, according to reports. Palmer has been impressing thus far at Bengals camp, and he looks to be fully healed from the elbow problems that plagued him last season. Expect him to be healthy and ready to go for the start of the season.
August 1, 2009
Carson Palmer sat out the evening practice with the Bengals Saturday, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Palmer is merely dealing with an illness, and his elbow is fine. He has looked good so far in training camp.
July 31, 2009
Carson Palmer is reportedly looking good in practice at the start of training camp, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He is notably firing his passes with nice zip.

Our View:This is encouraging as he attempts to bounce back from an elbow injury that spoiled his 2008 campaign. Palmer's fantasy stock will rise if he continues to fare well through camp and the preseason.
July 18, 2009
Carson Palmer has declared his right elbow 100 percent healthy, according to Fanhouse.

Our View:Palmer has never really been the same since having his knee blown out in a 2006 playoff game against the Steelers, and played in only four games last season, but is well worth a gamble in most drafts if you decide to wait to draft a quarterback. He is apparently the healthiest he has been in years, and he is an elite QB when healthy. He has looked great in offseason OTAs, as well, and has his number one receiver, Chad Ochocinco, on the same page with him for the first time in ages. He is due for a big season.
June 27, 2009
Carson Palmer, who missed 12 games last year with a partially torn ligament and tendon in his right elbow, admits that he still needs to improve his arm strength heading into the 2009 season, according to the Dayton Daily News.

Our View:Still, Palmer reportedly looked great at the team's recent three-day mini-camp and was accurate on nearly all his throws. While you'd clearly like to see his arm at full strength, this doesn't appear to be too big of an issue at the moment and is something that could be a non-factor by the time Week 1 rolls around.
June 19, 2009
According to the Dayton Daily News, Bengals' quarterback Carson Palmer is denying reports that wide receiver Chad Ochocinco is staying with him at his home while the two work out together this summer. "I just told him that unless he is picking up my mortgage for the months of July and August, he can't stay. He's not living for free. I don't need another kid around the house," Palmer said.

Our View:Ochocinco continues to tell people he is bunking with the Palmers, but it sounds like Carson's wife has put her foot down. Knowing Chad, he will probably show up at the Palmer residence unannounced and cut Carson a rent check for a month. None of this really has anything to do with football, but at least Chad is excited about working with his quarterback, and it truly looks like he wants to be better this season.
May 19, 2009
Carson Palmer feels 100 percent healthy following his recovery from an elbow ailment that spoiled his 2008 campaign, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. He expects to throw 150 passes per day during practice, which was his routine in the past.

Our View:Palmer will have a chance to reclaim his ranking as an elite fantasy quarterback this season. The club lost T.J. Houshmandzadeh to Seattle, but speed demon Laveranues Coles should come through fine as his replacement. Chad Johnson should be healthy this season as well.
May 11, 2009
Carson Palmer believes this has been the Bengals' best offseason program since joining the team as a rookie in 2003, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer. Palmer said, "Definitely by far it has been the best offseason program since I have been here. There have been no distractions. Everyone has been here to work, and that has been great for us. Everyone has been pushing each other, which is going to translate out onto the field."

Our View:That suggests that Chad Johnson has not been a distraction. Palmer was also pleased that the Bengals ugraded their offensive line with rookie tackle Andre Smith in the draft. Palmer feels that his elbow is 100 percent healthy again, and should be able to bounce back following a disappointing injury-spoiled 2008 season.
March 30, 2009
Carson Palmer feels his elbow is 100 percent healthy, according to ESPN. He said, "I am 100 percent. I have been cleared. My elbow feels great and I just have to keep going and get the small mechanical things that I normally do this time of year."

Our View:Palmer is ready to turn the Bengals around following a disappointing 4-11-1 2008 campaign in which he missed 12 games. Palmer will be held on a "pitch count" all the way through training camp just as a precaution.
January 6, 2009
According to ESPN, Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer will not need to undergo surgery on his right elbow.

Our View:Palmer missed all but four games this season. He may not be 100 percent by the start of training camp, but isn't expected to miss any game action.
January 6, 2009
Bengals.com reports that Cincinnati coach Marvin Lewis has confirmed plans to change the team's offensive plan, saying, "We are going to change offensively. It's going to be a way different offense. Nobody outside this building will have an idea of the difference, but we'll be a different offense and an effective offense."

Our View:That's good news for fantasy owners, who found most Bengals players outside T.J. Houshmandzadeh and occasionally Cedric Benson utterly useless.
January 5, 2009
The Bengals' and Jaguars' coaching staffs will coach in the Senior Bowl this year, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The Bengals made three selections of Senior Bowl participants in 2004 after the team's staff worked the game.
January 5, 2009
Former Steelers' head coach Bill Cowher commented that the Bengals are his sleeper team for 2009, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer.

Our View:Cowher based his pick on the fact that the Bengals' defense quietly finished the season ranked 12th in the NFL. He also mentioned a healthy return of quarterback Carson Palmer and Cedric Benson building upon his solid stretch run at the end of 2008. The Bengals schedule will be lighter as well.
