Marc Bulger completed 26-of-40 passes for 298 yards with two touchdowns against one interception in the Week 10 loss to New Orleans.

Our View:This was by far Bulger's best performance of the season, as he was able to exploit the Saints decimated secondary, which was missing three starters. For now, we will file this effort in our "anomaly" folder.
November 5, 2009
The National Football Post reports that Rams coach Steve Spagnuolo is sticking with Marc Bulger as his starting quarterback despite the former Pro Bowler's ineffectiveness this season.

Our View:Bulger has just three touchdowns and a miserable 68.2 quarterback rating this year, but Spags sees potential there. The 1-7 Rams are on a bye week, but Bulger will still be the voice in the huddle when they return to the turf against the Saints in Week 10. "I think Marc has done everything we needed him to do," Spagnuolo said. "I've said this before; it's not one position on the side of the ball, it's everybody. He has been a leader, he manages the game." Sounds like Bulger isn't going anywhere, but he doesn't deserve a second look in fantasy formats.
October 26, 2009
X-rays taken on quarterback Marc Bulger's left (non-throwing) hand after the Rams loss to the Colts on Sunday came back negative, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:What's another minor injury between friends? Bulger's minor hand injury comes on the heels of shoulder and finger injuries. If you are already starting him, there's no reason to stop now.
October 18, 2009
Marc Bulger had a decent outing in Sunday's 23-20 OT loss at Jacksonville, as he completed 22-of-34 passes for 213 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Our View:Bulger likely had a good enough performance to hold off Kyle Boller for the No. 1 role at quarterback. The Rams were leading 10-6 after three quarters, but were outscored 14-10 in the fourth quarter to push the battle into overtime.
October 14, 2009
The official Twitter page of the St. Louis Rams is reporting that the team has named Marc Bulger as their starting quarterback for this week's game against the Jaguars. Bulger will replace Kyle Boller, who suffered a head injury last week.

Our View:Boller has been cleared to practice this week, but Bulger will get another chance to prove he is the right guy to be the quarterback of this team. Bulger engineered an 80-yard touchdown drive in relief of Boller last week, but his recent history suggests that he will not be a good fantasy play this week.
October 12, 2009
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that Marc Bulger is likely to be the Rams' quarterback next week against the Jaguars. Bulger replaced an injured Kyle Boller in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game against the Vikings and completed all seven of his passes while throwing a touchdown.

Our View:The Rams have said that Bulger is their starter when healthy, and that decision could be easy this week if Boller is still suffering from the head injury he suffered in the fourth quarter. Expect Bulger to go Sunday, but there is no reason to roster any Rams' QB at this point.
October 11, 2009
Marc Bulger (shoulder) will not start today against Minnesota, according to Jason La Canfora of NFL.com.

Our View:Kyle Boller will make his third consecutive start for the Rams, but you would have to be extremely desperate to insert him in your fantasy lineup this afternoon.
October 7, 2009
ESPN.com reports that in all likelihood the Rams will hold Marc Bulger out of their Week 5 matchup with the Vikings due to his right shoulder injury.

Our View:Kyle Boller, who has been much better than Bulger, practiced with the first team offense on Wednesday, while Bulger just did some light throwing. The Rams will have a better chance with Boller regardless of Bulger's health, but neither quarterback is a startable fantasy option. Especially against Jared Allen and a punishing Vikings defense.
October 5, 2009
Marc Bulger tested his bruised right rotator cuff today by doing some light throwing, according to ESPN.

Our View:Head coach Steve Spagnuolo believes Bulger will likely be questionable for Week 5 against Minnesota. Kyle Boller would get the start in his absence, but would not garner fantasy consideration after failing to lead the Rams to any points in Week 4 against the 49ers.
October 4, 2009
Rams inactives: QB Marc Bulger, WR Nate Jones, CB Ronald Bartell, G Roger Allen, OT Jason Smith, DE Victor Adeyanju, NT Darell Scott.

Our View:Kyle Boller is starting at quarterback against the 49ers with Bulger unable to go. Bartell (thigh) is the Rams' best cornerback, and opposing quarterback Shaun Hill will likely throw to the left side of the field to exploit his absence.
October 1, 2009
According to the official Twitter page of the team, Rams' quarterback Marc Bulger was not able to practice again on Thursday. Backup Kyle Boller took all of the first-team snaps with the offense today.

Our View:Bulger has not been ruled out for this weekend's game yet, but his chances took a huge hit after he sat out today. Expect Boller to get the start this weekend, and he could play his way into the permanent starting job if he goes out and moves the offense.
September 30, 2009
Marc Bulger (shoulder) did not practice on Wednesday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Our View:Bulger has not been ruled out for this weekend yet, but if you are one of the unfortunate souls who owns him, you need to have Kyle Boller on your fantasy speed-dial.
September 30, 2009
Rams' insider Jim Thomas is reporting that quarterback Marc Bulger will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews on his injured throwing shoulder. Bulger has not been ruled out of the team's Week 4 game against the 49ers.

Our View:Bulger will see what Dr. Andrews thinks, and then he is going to try to participate in team activities on Thursday or Friday. All signs are still pointing to Kyle Boller starting this weekend, but we should know more in a few days.
September 28, 2009
According to Rams' Insider Jim Thomas, tests on the shoulder of quarterback Marc Bulger revealed no serious damage to the rotator cuff. Bulger is still questionable for the team's Week 4 game against the 49ers.

Our View:This is good news for Bulger, but he still figures to be out for this week's game. The Rams won't rush him back after the solid play of backup Kyle Boller in Sunday's loss, but expect Bulger to get his starting job back in a couple of weeks when he is ready.
September 27, 2009
Two sources inform the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that Marc Bulger has a rotator cuff injury.

Our View:We still have to wait for the MRI results to know how much time Bulger will miss, but it sounds like Kyle Boller could be in line for a promotion.
September 27, 2009
Marc Bulger (shoulder) will undergo an MRI on Monday, the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Our View:Fantasy owners should have already figured out that Bulger isn't worth owning in anything but the largest of leagues. Kyle Boller stands to start if Bulger misses time.
September 27, 2009
Marc Bulger exited the game against Green Bay in the second quarter with an apparent shoulder injury.

Our View:Bulger was dealing with a sore back entering the game, and sustained what appeared to be a shoulder injury after several hits by the Packers defense. Kyle Boller has taken his place in the starting lineup, and Bulger is questionable to return.
September 21, 2009
Marc Bulger is dealing with a sore back, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:His back was made sore by a hit he took late in the third quarter on Sunday. As if you needed any more reason to drop Bulger, this is it. Truly, if there are any alternatives in your league that are not JaMarcus Russell, make the move.
September 20, 2009
Marc Bulger failed to impress in Sunday's 9-7 loss at Washington, as he only completed 15-of-28 passes for 125 yards. He threw a two-yard touchdown pass to Laurent Robinson, with no interceptions.

Our View:Bulger threw his first touchdown pass of the season while coming off a shutout loss at Seattle, but did not do much else to improve his fantasy stock.
September 11, 2009
Marc Bulger is probable for Sunday's season opener at Seattle, according to the Rams' official twitter page. He has been recovering from a broken pinkie on his throwing hand.

Our View:Bulger feels fine and ready to go, which is good news regarding the Rams' receiving corps led by rising star Donnie Avery.
September 9, 2009
The Associated Press reports that quarterback Marc Bulger is once again taking snaps under center. He broke his pinkie in a similar situation in August and was operating only out of the shotgun formation earlier this week.

Our View:Bulger appears to be in line to start Week 1 although he has missed most of the preseason. He has a young group of receivers that he must develop chemistry with in a hurry to be effective. Expect the Rams to feature the running game heavily until Bulger can get caught up with the rest of the offense.
September 7, 2009
Marc Bulger is progressing in his recovery from a broken pinkie, but is yet to resume taking snaps under center, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Head coach Steve Spagnuolo is hopeful that Bulger will be able to take snaps under center on Wednesday, and play in Week 1 at Seattle. Kyle Boller would start in his place if needed.
August 31, 2009
The Rams are being cautious with Marc Bulger as he recovers from his broken pinkie, according to their official team website. Bulger said, "The bone is still fractured. I think a week from today it will be even more healed. It would just be a shame to go out there and do too much today, take a snap and a re-break or whatever and get set back more. Everything we are doing is just to be safe. We are right on course."

Our View:Bulger is expected to be ready to go for Week 1 at Seattle. Bulger is coming off two straight disappointing seasons, but is still a better option than Kyle Boller, and the Rams will be careful to prevent the elder quarterback from suffering a setback.
August 30, 2009
According to the Rams' Twitter page, quarterback Marc Bulger threw 21 passes at practice on Sunday. Bulger did not take any snaps, but he did throw in a relaxed, non-practice setting.

Our View:Good first step here for Bulger, but it doesn't look like he will be seeing any time in the final preseason game. Kyle Boller will get more time with the first-team, and if Bulger struggles early this season it wouldn't surprise anyone if Boller replaces him at some point this season.
August 29, 2009
Marc Bulger is slated to throw next week, but may not take any snaps, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. He is recovering from a broken right pinkie.

Our View:Bulger expects to play in Week 1 at Seattle, but is only worth a look as a backup for fantasy leagues. He is coming off two straight disappointing seasons.
August 19, 2009
Marc Bulger will miss the remainder of the Rams preseason games with his fractured right pinkie, and will likely not be 100 percent healthy for Week 1, though he plans to play, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:Just when new coach Steve Spagnuolo started giving Rams fans a reason to hope again, both Bulger and top receiver Donnie Avery go down with injuries. With Bulger battling this and learning a new system - and coming off a disastrous season - it would be irresponsible to advocate drafting him as anything other than an emergency backup.
August 17, 2009
Marc Bulger has suffered a "small fracture" in his right pinkie finger, and will be shutdown for a minimum of two weeks, according to the team.

Our View:Coach Steve Spagnuolo says the team is being very cautious with him, so it is likely the injury will not keep him out in the regular season. He may play in the team's third preseason game on August 27 if things go exceedingly well. Until he returns, former Raven Kyle Boller will run the first team offense.
August 17, 2009
Marc Bulger will undergo precautionary X-rays after injuring his right pinkie finger in practice on Monday morning, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:He did a little throwing on the side after hurting the finger, and coach Steve Spagnuolo does not believe it is serious. We'll update his status once the X-rays come back.
August 14, 2009
Marc Bulger was 4-of-4 for 77 yards on Friday night, but continued a career trend in taking three sacks.

Our View:Bulger is truly one of the better quarterbacks in the NFL when he has time - problem is, that's almost never. With starting left guard Jacob Bell leaving with an injury Friday night, his chances for good protection are already off to a rocky start.
August 11, 2009
Marc Bulger will play up to three quarters of the Rams first preseason game this Friday as he tries to become acclimated with its new west-coast offense, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Bulger is coming off a miserable season in which he threw for more interceptions (13) than touchdowns (11), and should not under any circumstance be your featured quarterback this year.
July 21, 2009
According to a report at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, new Rams' head coach Steve Spagnuolo plans to work his new team hard during training camp this summer. Spagnuolo has told his team to be prepared, because they will be having two-a-days on most practice days.

Our View:Most coaches are cutting back on two-a-days in the NFL, but coach Spags is making his mark on this team and showing them that they have to earn their spot. This has to be exciting for Rams' fans, especially considering that the team hasn't had much to be optimistic about over the last 2+ seasons.
June 18, 2009
FoxSports.com is reporting that Rams' quarterback Marc Bulger told the media that he realizes that this season is probably his last chance as a starter for the Rams. After being a perennial Pro Bowler early in his career, Bulger has been a major disappointment over the last few years as the Rams have turned into one of the worst teams in the league.

Our View:Bulger is on his last life in St. Louis, and it looks like he will need to return to his Pro Bowl form to remain the team's quarterback. A healthy Steven Jackson will go a long way in that, but his inexperienced receiving corps will be the worst he has played with in his NFL career. As far as fantasy value goes, Bulger is nothing more than a backup quarterback at best.
June 2, 2009
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch is reporting that St. Louis Blues owner Dave Checketts has expressed a serious interest in purchasing the St. Louis Rams. Checketts told Bernie Miklasz though an email that: "We have the ability to get this done and we have communicated this to the Rams. Last week, we communicated to Chip Rosenbloom in no uncertain terms, that he now has a clear St. Louis buyer. We are that buyer." Checketts' ownership group would have to be approved by the NFL.

Our View:This is potentially huge news for the fans in the city of St. Louis. It has been heavily reported over the past few days that there has been no interest from any St. Louis based buyers in the team. Checketts seems motivated to become the majority owner, so St. Louis has some hope.
May 1, 2009
Marc Bulger is looking forward to a new start in 2009 under head coach Steve Spagnuolo, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Bulger said, "Every year, winning cures all. Earlier in my career we were winning and my biggest attribute was that I was steady, low-key, and my teammates knew how much I wanted to win and everything was great. Then all of a sudden, you lose a few years and that's my greatest weakness."

Our View:Bulger is not concerned about his job after there were rumors that the club was considering quarterback Mark Sanchez (USC) with pick No. 2 in the draft. He feels that the new coaching staff has faith in him, and like he said - winning cures all.
April 25, 2009
Marc Bulger has drawn interest from the New York Jets in their search to bolster their quarterback position, according to the Sporting News's Albert Breer.

Our View:The Jets have also been linked to Jason Campbell in recent weeks. Another quarterback said to possibly be in the Jets sights is Brady Quinn. Lots of rumors but little substantial to go on at this point as we approach the start of the 2009 NFL Draft.
April 18, 2009
Marc Bulger will likely remain the Rams' starting quarterback for 2009, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.

Our View:It would be very difficult to trade or release Bulger due to the potential cap hit. Trading Bulger would result in $8MM of "dead" money, meaning money that counts against the cap for a player no longer on the roster. That number increases to $11MM if Bulger is released, since $3MM of his base salary in 2009 is guaranteed. He reportedly fared well during the Rams' first minicamp two weeks ago.
April 7, 2009
The Rams are willing to trade the second-overall pick in the NFL Draft, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. GM Bill Devaney said, "Yeah, in the position we are in, we will consider everything. It is a little early. We kind of play with scenarios in our mind right now. But we have not gotten down to the nitty-gritty, if you will, to say: 'OK, how far back would we trade?' "

Our View:The Rams are in a rebuilding phase, and they could stockpile picks by dealing the No. 2 pick. Their top needs are along the offensive and defensive line, at linebacker and wide receiver.
February 4, 2009
The Rams have hired Mike Williams as their new director of pro personnel, according to NFL.com. He had spent the last nine years with the 49ers, including the last four as assistant director of pro personnel. "Mike knows the players in the NFL and the players in our division," said Rams general manager Billy Devaney. "He knows rosters from the bottom up and the top down and how players move on and off rosters in the off-season. He will fill an important role in this area."

Our View:The Rams are really starting to get their front office and coaching staff in order for the coming season. They seem to be heading in the right direction, but we should know more about that after free agency and the draft have passed.
February 3, 2009
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports running backs coach Art Valero has been retained by new head coach Steve Spagnuolo but will take on offensive line duties for the 2009 season. Former Mississippi State head coach Sylvester Croom was hired yesterday as the new running backs coach. The team also announced that Tom McMahon has been named special teams coordinator.

Our View:Prior to coaching tight ends and running backs in the NFL for the past seven seasons, Valero tutored offensive linemen at the collegiate level for 16 years. McMahon's lone two years of NFL experience came in Atlanta, where he was the assistant special teams coach.
January 18, 2009
ProFootballTalk.com reports that Cowboys assistant Jason Garrett priced himself out of the Rams job. It is believed he was not willing to accept the four year, $11.5 million that the Rams were offering. The Rams hired Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo instead.

Our View:The Cowboys coach is the highest paid assistant in the league, and he would have actually taken a pay cut if he had accepted the head coaching job. This may be a blessing in disguise, though as Spagnuolo brings more experience and a championship ring to St. Louis.
January 17, 2009
Updating an earlier report, Steve Spagnuolo's deal is complete and he is the new head coach of the Rams, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It is believed to be a four-year contract for just under $12 million.

Our View:The former defensive coordinator of the Giants will be looking to turn around a Rams' franchise that dipped to 2-14 in 2008, second worst in the NFC behind the winless Lions.
January 17, 2009
Bernie Miklasz of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch indicates that Steve Spagnuolo will be named the new head coach of the Rams.

Our View:The two sides are reportedly negotiating the terms. He beats out Leslie Frazier, who was believed to also be a top candidate. Spagnuolo won a Super Bowl title as the Giants' defensive coordinator in 2007.
January 16, 2009
Don't count out Cowboys' assistant Jason Garrett for the Rams' head coaching position yet, according to NFL.com. He traveled back to St. Louis on Friday afternoon with the Rams expected to make a decision by Saturday.

Our View:Garrett was considered to be the outsider of the finalists, but going back to St. Louis certainly makes him look like he will be the next head coach of the Rams. Stay tuned.
January 16, 2009
The Rams' search for a new head coach has reportedly been narrowed down to two top candidates: Leslie Frazier and Steve Spagnuolo, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. However, ESPN's Chris Mortenson has reported that Baltimore's Rex Ryan is the leading candidate.

Our View:The Rams could make a decision soon, or they could decide to wait for Ryan to finish his playoff run with the Ravens. We'll continue to update you on their search.
January 15, 2009
The New York Daily News reports that Steve Spagnuolo's lone head coaching option for next season may be with the St. Louis Rams. The Rams and Spags met on Thursday in Los Angeles.

Our View:Spags is known as a bit of a player's coach, but a brilliant one at that. The Rams were a complete mess last season, and they are not a very attractive head coaching job. Still, with the lack of options that remain available, Spags will likely take the job if offered.
January 10, 2009
The Rams interviewed Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels for their head coach position on Friday. They've also met with interim head coach Jim Haslett, Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Packers assistant head coach Winston Moss and former Giants head coach Jim Fassel, but the St. Louis Post-Dispatch doesn't believe Moss and Fassel are serious contenders. McDaniels previously met with the Broncos and Browns. Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan and Dolphins assistant head coach Todd Bowles are also on the Rams list.

Our View:Like other teams, the Rams are likely waiting on Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo to become available. At this point, we're not sure who the Rams are leaning towards or if McDaniels made a good impression.
January 9, 2009
Mike Martz indicated that he would be open to returning to St. Louis to serve on Jim Haslett's staff, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Martz said, "Haslett is the only guy that I would consider working for. I think the world of him. I think he's an outstanding head coach."

Our View:Martz would likely be replacing Al Saunders as the offensive coordinator if he returned to the Rams. Martz would also be in favor of keeping Torry Holt, who is coming off a disappointing season.
January 4, 2009
NFL.com reports that Jim Fassel will interview for the Rams head coaching position on Thursday.

Our View:Fassel brings some experience but not a whole lot of recent success. The Rams have named nearly a dozen candidates for their coaching position.
January 4, 2009
Packers assistant head coach Winston Moss impressed the Rams and has earned a second interview, according to NFL.com.

Our View:The Rams will continue to interview the other candidates that they've had lined up as they don't want to make the same mistake that they made when the hired Scott Linehan. GM Billy Devaney is more of a football guy than the Rams previous GM, so this should help things.
