According to ESPN.com, the Saints plan to give quarterback Drew Brees a contract extension this offseason.

Our View:Brees almost got a deal last year, but the Saints passed. Now after back-to-back MVP caliber seasons and a Super Bowl appearance they don't have much choice but to lock him up. He was just the 17th-highest paid QB last year, so he should get a significant raise with his extension. Expect Bress to get some well deserved big money, along with fellow free agents Tom Brady and Peyton Manning.

According to Pro Football Talk, a civil court case in the Parish of Orleans, Louisiana has been postponed so that many involved in the trial, including lawyers and jurors, can travel to the "promised land," also known as the Super Bowl on February 7.

Our View:"This matter is presently set for a jury trial on Monday, February 1, 2010. Considering the historic victory of the New Orleans Saints, the Court finds that the trial will not be able to proceed as originally scheduled. The Court takes judicial notice that Saintsmania permeates the city of New Orleans," the court document read. "Many prospective jurors for the Parish of Orleans, several attorneys involved in this litigation and Court personnel plan on traveling to the promised land -- the Super Bowl in Miami, Florida. The Court recognizes that this pilgrimage enhances the chances of the Who Dat Nation to acquire the long sought after Holy Grail - the Vince Lombardi trophy." President Barack Obama says he will be rooting for the Saints in next month's Super Bowl, according to Politico.com.

Our View:Like many, he thinks the city of New Orleans earning a Super Bowl championship just four years after Hurricane Katrina would be a neat story. That being said, after the Saints' mostly mediocre defensive performance against Brett Favre and the Vikings in the NFC Championship game, they are going to need all the help they can get against Hurricane Manning.

Drew Brees tossed three touchdowns but only had 176 yards on 15 completions as the Saints defeated the Vikings 31-28 to win the NFC Championship.

Our View:It wasn't Brees' best performance but it was good enough to get the Saints into the Super Bowl. We would expect a more impressive performance against Peyton Manning and the Colts in Miami.

Drew Brees gunned down the Cardinals in Saturday's 45-14 playoff win at the Superdome, as he completed 23-of-32 passes for 247 yards, with three touchdowns and no interceptions.

Our View:Brees fired 34 touchdown passes in the regular season, and had no problem dismantling the Cardinals' pass defense that was ranked 23rd in the NFL. The Saints will next face either the Cowboys or Vikings in the NFC Championship.

Saints Week 17 inactives: third quarterback Drew Brees, WR Lance Moore, RB Pierre Thomas, S Usama Young, S Darren Sharper, LB Scott Shanle, TE David Thomas and DT Sedrick Ellis.

Our View:Pretty well anyone who has a bump or bruise is sitting this one out for the Saints who have the top seed in the NFC clinched.

Peter King tweets that Drew Brees will be the No. 3 quarterback on Sunday. Mark Brunell will get the start.

Our View:The Saints don't have much to play for, and we wouldn't bank on Brunell for many points either. The Saints have a bye, so Brees won't see any action for nearly three weeks before we next see him
