ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting that Jeff Garcia will not be headed back to Oakland this season. Raiders' coach Tom Cable has come out publicly and said the team is not interested in the services of their former quarterback.

Our View:The Raiders are probably wishing now that they would have held onto Garcia for a bit longer, because JaMarcus Russell has been historically awful over the first three weeks. Don't expect to see a reunion in Oakland, but there are still plenty of teams who could use Garcia.
September 29, 2009
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Eagles have released quarterback Jeff Garcia to make room on their roster for the recently signed Jeremiah Trotter.

Our View:Garcia's signing with the Eagles was a head-scratcher from the get-go, and he is now free to sign with any number of more quarterback needy teams, including his former clubs Tampa Bay and Oakland (though an Oakland reunion is unlikely). Don't expect him to stay unsigned through the week.
September 20, 2009
Jeff Garcia's contract with the Eagles is guaranteed for two weeks, according to Adam Schefter's (ESPN) twitter page.

Our View:Garcia could potentially see some action with the Eagles, namely if Donovan McNabb needs to miss more games with his fractured rib, and if Kevin Kolb struggles today against New Orleans.
September 14, 2009
Jeff Garcia reportedly agreed to a deal with the Eagles, according to Adam Schefter's (ESPN) twitter page.

Our View:Bringing back A.J. Feeley was an option for the Eagles, but he was scooped up by the Panthers. The 39-year-old vet started six games with the Eagles back in 2006, and will likely serve as Kevin Kolb's backup in Week 2 if Donovan McNabb is unable to play with his fractured rib. The club needed depth with receiver DeSean Jackson an emergency backup and Michael Vick suspended through the week.
September 13, 2009
There is reportedly some interest in quarterback Jeff Garcia, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:Raiders' head coach Tom Cable stated that Garcia was released because he asked to be. None of the potentially interested NFL teams were disclosed, but perhaps the Eagles would consider bringing him back with Donovan McNabb dealing with a fractured rib. He started six games for Philadelphia back in 2006.
September 5, 2009
Jeff Garcia has been released by the Raiders, according to ProFootballTalk.com.

Our View:At the start of camp there were whispers that Garcia could push JaMarcus Russell for the starting gig at quarterback, so this is very surprising that he did not even make the team as a reserve. There are bound to be injuries at quarterback around the league this season, so Garcia should not be out of work for too long.
August 17, 2009
As expected, Jeff Garcia has returned to training camp with the Raiders Monday, according to Jerry McDonald's twitter page. It was not disclosed exactly why Garcia was away from the team.

Our View:Garcia will serve as the No. 2 quarterback, and will only hold some fantasy value if JaMarcus Russell gets benched or goes down with an injury.
August 16, 2009
According to Jerry McDonald on Twitter, Jeff Garcia is not injured and will be in at practice on Monday.

Our View:It was rumored that Garcia's calf was ailing, but he appears to be fine and will take over the number two quarterback job behind JaMarcus Russell. He was away from the team contemplating his future, but it looks like he's decided to stick around in the NFL.
August 15, 2009
Jeff Garcia has left camp with the Raiders to deal with a personal matter at home, according to the Contra Costa Times.

Our View:It was not disclosed what his personal issue is, or when he may return to practice. Stay tuned for updates on the 39-year-old vet.
August 4, 2009
Jeff Garcia is day-to-day with a strained calf, according to the San Francisco Chornicle.

Our View:This apparently doesn't have too many fantasy implications, as the 39-year-old super vet isn't expected to challenge JaMarcus Russell for the Raiders starting QB gig. Still, if Russell continues to struggle, it wouldn't be at all surprising for the team to change their mind.
August 3, 2009
Jeff Garcia is not practicing while nursing a strained calf, according to Jerry McDonald's twitter page.

Our View:It is uncertain when the 39-year-old vet may be ready to resume practicing. He cannot push JaMarcus Russell for the starting gig at quarterback while out of action.
July 4, 2009
According to the Chicago Tribune, new Raiders' quarterback Jeff Garcia believes he should be the starter in Oakland this season even though he is second on the depth chart to JaMarcus Russell. Garcia was quoted as saying "Not knocking JaMarcus or anybody else on the team, but I have a belief in my own abilities that has me feeling I am the best quarterback on the team. That's just how I approach the game."

Our View:Garcia has made no bones about the fact that he wants to start this season, and now he is pleading his case. The Raiders almost have to start Russell after drafting him first overall a few years ago, but if he struggles early don't be shocked to see Garcia.
April 6, 2009
The Raiders are confirming that they signed Jeff Garcia to a deal, according to the Contra Costa Times. Terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Our View:The Raiders considered signing him two years ago before he decided to play for the Buccaneers. Garcia will provide solid veteran depth behind JaMarcus Russell.
April 6, 2009
The St. Petersburg Times confirms that Jeff Garcia will ink a deal with the Raiders.

Our View:The 39-year-old vet will serve as the primary backup to JaMarcus Russell. This could mark the end of Andrew Walter's career in Oakland. Garcia will be returning to the bay area, as he played for the 49ers from 1999-2003.
April 5, 2009
Jeff Garcia is undergoing negotiations on a deal with Oakland that could be finalized as early as today, according to NBC Bay Area.

Our View:Apparently there weren't any teams willing to give the 39-year-old veteran an outright starting job and, while he could get a chance to compete in Oakland, it's very much expected that he'll enter as JaMarcus Russell's backup. Garcia almost surely will not be worth owning initially in the year as he'll only gain value if Russell gets hurt or struggles for the first couple weeks.
March 12, 2009
The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat states that the 49ers are not interested in bringing back Jeff Garcia. Coach Mike Singletary said, "When I look at Shaun Hill, I think he did a great job last year. I am not sure how much better we get by bringing in a Jeff Garcia and adding to the mix when you have a guy like Shaun Hill."

Our View:The club still has Alex Smith, who should compete with Damon Huard for the backup role behind Shaun Hill. The club could add a quarterback in the draft as well. The Vikings were initially interested in Garcia, but they are out of the running after inking Sage Rosenfels.
February 18, 2009
Jeff Garcia is not likely headed back to the 49ers as head coach Mike Singletary doubts he would be an upgrade over Shaun Hill, according to the SF Chronicle.

Our View:Garcia held a 90.2 efficiency rating and should find a new job in the NFL. The Vikings are believed to have interest in him.
February 17, 2009
The Jets are not interested in impending free agent Jeff Garcia, according to the Star-Ledger.

Our View:The club wants to add a veteran for insurance behind young guns Kellen Clemens and Brett Ratliff, but apparently the 39-year-old Garcia is not on their radar.
February 16, 2009
The Buccaneers have advised veteran quarterback Jeff Garcia to move on, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Garcia said, "My time in Tampa has come to an end. I am not under contract and I am about to hit free agency and that means it is time again for me to just move on."

Our View:The Buccaneers have a new coaching staff, and want to move on with a younger quarterback that they can mold, namely Luke McCown. Garcia should find work with another club, and the Vikings are already believed to be interested.
February 16, 2009
John Clayton of ESPN speculated yesterday that the Vikings are interested in signing Jeff Garcia.

Our View:Signing Garcia would hurt the chances of both Tarvaris Jackson and Gus Frerotte starting for Minnesota in 2009. It would potentially improve the stock on their receivers though, namely Bernard Berrian.
February 10, 2009
Jeff Garcia does not expect to return to Tampa Bay in 2009, according to NFL.com. Garcia said, "It looks like they have decided to go in another direction with the signing of Luke McCown. I am happy for him and his family. He has worked hard and is a talented player."

Our View:McCown is expected to get the first shot at starting for the Buccaneers next season. The Cowboys are in the market for a backup quarterback, and could be among the clubs to garner interest in Garcia, who maintained a 90.2 efficiency rating over 12 games in 2008. Garcia would potentially be reunited with Terrell Owens in Dallas, as the pair previously played together with the 49ers.
February 5, 2009
According to Pewter Report, a Tampa Buccaneers blog, the team has hired former Boston College offensive coordinator Steve Logan. Logan, who will either coach running backs or tight ends, will be reunited with former BC head coach Jeff Jagodzinski, who was hired to be Tampa's offensive coordinator last month.

Our View:Prior to working at Boston College, Logan was the head coach at East Carolina from 1992-2002.
January 31, 2009
The Providence Journal reports that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have named former New England Patriots assistant Pete Mangurian as the team's new offensive line coach.

Our View:Mangurian spent the last four years on Bill Belichick's staff as the tight ends coach.
January 29, 2009
The Buccaneers have hired Jeff Jagodzinski as their new offensive coordinator, according to the St. Petersburg Times.

Our View:The 45-year-old was fired by Boston College for interviewing for the New York Jets' head coaching vacancy. Jagodzinski led the Eagles to two ACC title games but lost both to Virginia Tech. He is also credited with developing former BC quarterback Matt Ryan.
January 26, 2009
Titans' quarterback coach Craig Johnson is slated to interview with the Buccaneers for their offensive coordinator position, according to the Tennessean.

Our View:Johnson has served seven campaigns with Tennessee as their quarterback coach, and led Kerry Collins to a favorable season in 2008 as the club held the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
January 23, 2009
Updating an earlier report, the Buccaneers have decided to pass on hiring Scott Linehan, according to the St. Petersburg Times. He was believed to be a top candidate for the vacancy at offensive coordinator.

Our View:Linehan was an offensive coordinator with the Vikings (2002-04) and Dolphins (2005). During Linehan's time in Minnesota, his offense ranked second, first and fourth in the NFL. The remaining candidates are believed to be Chan Gailey and Rob Chudzinski.
January 23, 2009
Scott Linehan is believed to be the Buccaneers' top candidate for the vacancy at offensive coordinator, according to Pro Football Weekly.

Our View:Linehan turned down the 49ers' offer for the same job. Linehan would be joining new head coach Raheem Morris and defensive coordinator Jim Bates if he decides to work for Tampa Bay.
January 22, 2009
Bengals.com reports that Ken Zampese is may be hired as Tampa Bay's new offensive coordinator on Friday. He was the quarterbacks coach for the Bengals in 2008. Chan Gailey and Scott Linehan are his competition for the position.

Our View:Apparently, Zampese is a hot commodity right now, but we're not exactly sure why. The Bengals' passing game has been well below average the past two seasons. In his defense, he was without Carson Palmer for a good chunk of that time.
January 21, 2009
Quarterback Jeff Garcia told the St. Petersburg Times Wednesday that it was time for head coach Jon Gruden to go and that his strained relationships with the players played a part in his dismissal. "There are players who were in the past before I got here who had their own experiences of how they were treated or how they were misled," Garcia said. "For the two years that I was here, I enjoyed my experiences on the field with coach Gruden but there were some things that obviously rubbed me wrong and I'm sure they were not easy to deal with. But I'm just one guy. Whatever the reason was that they made the change, they felt it was time to make the change."

Our View:Garcia later stated that though the players deserve a majority of the blame for Tampa Bay's late-season collapse, Gruden must also assume some of the responsibility.
January 19, 2009
The St. Petersburg Times reports that Tampa Bay quarterbacks coach Scott Olson will be one of the candidates interviewed for the Buccaneers' vacant offensive coordinator position. Former OC Bill Muir was fired shortly after new head coach Raheem Morris stepped into power.

Our View:Olson directed St. Louis' offense to a No. 4 raking in 2006, but that number slipped to 24th the following season. One of his top opponents for the offensive coordinator position in Tampa will be his former boss, Scott Linehan.
January 18, 2009
The Buc have a new HC in Raheem Morris, and now they appear to be looking into hiring an almost completely new staff after purging six assistants on Sunday, according to the Associated Press. Here is the list of fired coaches: offensive coordinator Bill Muir, defensive quality control coaches Johnny Cox and Ejiro Evero, offensive assistant coach Jay Gruden, strength and conditioning coach Mike Morris and assistant offensive line coach George Yarno.

Our View:Well, if you are going to clean shop, you might as well start from scratch right. The club got a late start in shaking things up, so it remains to be seen what type of staff they will be able to put together.
