Jake Delhomme struggled on Thursday in the Panthers' 24-17 loss to the Dolphins. Delhomme completed just 19-of-42 passes for 227 yards, a touchdown, and an interception in the game.

Our View:Delhomme did manage to hit Steve Smith for a touchdown tonight, but he wasn't very good outside of that. He has proven that his days of being a good fantasy starter are over, so there is no reason to play him going forward.
November 15, 2009
Jake Delhomme completed 15-of-24 passes for 195 yards and two touchdowns against zero interceptions in the Week 10 victory over Atlanta.

Our View:Delhomme has led the Panthers to victories in two of the last three games, but he still has minimal fantasy value despite the solid outing versus the Falcons.
November 8, 2009
Jake Delhomme managed to go an entire game without throwing an interception on Sunday, but he couldn't throw any touchdowns either in the Panthers 30-20 loss to the Saints.

Our View:Delhomme completed 17-of-30 passes for 201 yards, but couldn't find the end zone and only managed a 77.2 passer rating in the game. Not throwing a pick was a big step forward, but he did rush twice for -6 yards and a fumble. This performance further solidifies the claims that Delhomme is no longer a playable fantasy quarterback.

The Rock Hill Herald reports that the chest injury that briefly forced Jake Delhomme from the Panthers' win over the Cardinals on Sunday shouldn't affect his Week 9 status.

Our View:Whether or not that's good news or bad news, he will play. For what it's worth, Sunday was the first time in seven starts this season that Delhomme did not throw an interception.
November 1, 2009
Jake Delhomme exited the game at Arizona in the third quarter with a chest injury.

Our View:The medical staff checked him out on the sideline, and Delhomme returned after missing a few plays.

Carolina Panthers' beat writer Darin Gantt is reporting on Twitter that coach John Fox has named Jake Delhomme the team's starting quarterback for Week 8. There was some speculation that Delhomme would be benched this week due to his poor play this season.

Our View:Delhomme has been awful this season, but the Panthers don't really have a great option to take over for him. Matt Moore and AJ Feeley are both average quarterbacks who aren't likely to change the team's fortunes. There shouldn't be any reason why anyone should be starting Delhomme on your fantasy team.
October 27, 2009
Despite coach John Fox standing by him on Monday, there is a decent chance that Jake Delhomme will not be under center in Week 8, according to the Rock Hill Herald.

Our View:"But, collectively, we'll do whatever it takes for us to improve. What that is, I can't honestly tell you at this second," were Fox's words on Monday. Were the team to decide to bench Delhomme and his league-worst 13 interceptions, either Matt Moore or A.J. Feeley would get the nod at quarterback.
October 26, 2009
Panthers coach John Fox stopped short on Monday of saying he would bench quarterback Jake Delhomme, but did "insist" that he needed to see improvement from the team's passing game, according to Darin Gantt of the Rock Hill Herald.

Our View:Delhomme's 13 interceptions "lead" the league, while his four touchdown passes are near the bottom for regular starters. It goes without saying that his best days are behind him, but the if the Panthers want to avoid an 11 or 12 loss season, he at least needs to show he has some mediocre ones ahead of him. If and when he gets the hook, Matt Moore or A.J. Feeley would get the call to replace him.
October 25, 2009
Jake Delhomme put up some nice yardage against the Bills on Sunday, going 27-of-44 for 325 yards, but he failed to toss for a touchdown and was intercepted three times.

Our View:Delhomme now has an unacceptable 13 interceptions compared to just four touchdowns this season. While head coach John Fox has publicly supported Delhomme each passing week, you have to wonder when enough is enough for this 2-4 team that is seemingly built to win. It's unknown whether A.J. Feeley or Matt Moore would be called upon to replace Delhomme should the Panthers make a change.

Head coach John Fox is denying the report by FOX Sports that claimed he told friends that he expects to be fired by the Panthers after the season, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Our View:Fox said that he probably would tell people around him if he was expecting a new contract from Carolina, but does not think he would let anyone know if he was being fired after the season. Fox led the Panthers to a comeback win over the Redskins earlier today.
October 11, 2009
Head coach John Fox has told friends and some associates he expects to be fired once the season ends, according to John Czarnecki of Fox Sports.

Our View:The Panthers are 0-3 and Fox is being blamed for the poor performance of quarterback Jake Delhomme and defensive end Julius Peppers, two veterans the team is currently overpaying based on their production. There is ongoing speculation that Bill Cowher could be next in line to coach the Panthers.
September 30, 2009
ProFootballTalk.com is reporting that Panthers' head coach John Fox is sticking with Jake Delhomme as his starting quarterback. When asked if Delhomme was still the starter, Fox replied "I didn't think that was a question, but if that needs to be clarified, yes with a capital Y."

Our View:Delhomme just hasn't been able to rebound after last year's playoff disaster, and the veteran is starting to look like he is not capable of being a starting quarterback in this league. The Panthers don't have a better option behind Delhomme, so it looks like he could be the starter for most of the season. If he is your starter, you need to find someone else.

Jake Delhomme struggled in tonight's 21-7 loss at Dallas, as he completed 22-of-33 passes for 220 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions.

Our View:The Panthers are now 0-3, and Delhomme already threw seven interceptions. The club has a bye in Week 4.
September 20, 2009
Jake Delhomme fared well in today's 28-20 loss at Atlanta, as he completed 25-of-41 passes for 308 yards, with one touchdown and one interception.

Our View:This was an encouraging performance for Delhomme after he threw four interceptions in Week 1 against Philadelphia. He could make a decent spot-starter for bye weeks.
September 19, 2009
ESPN.com points out that Panthers' quarterback Jake Delhomme may be targeting wide receiver Steve Smith a bit too much. In Delhomme's lats two games, six of his nine interceptions have been intended for Smith.

Our View:In Jake's defense, Smith is really the only good receiving threat he has. You can find a ton of stats to explain Delhomme's terrible two-game streak, but the fact is he has made bad decisions and hasn't been very good.
September 13, 2009
Head coach John Fox stated that Jake Delhomme will remain the Panthers' starting quarterback for Week 2 at Atlanta, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Our View:Delhomme gravely struggled today against the Eagles prior to getting benched for Josh McCown, but Fox still has faith in the veteran quarterback. He should not be considered for fantasy duty for next weekend however.
September 13, 2009
With the Panthers down 38-10, quarterback Jake Delhomme was pulled during the third quarter in favor of Josh McCown, who left the game with a knee injury after six pass attempts.

Our View:Delhomme was stinking the joint out, completing 7-of-17 pass attempts for 73 yards and five turnovers (four interceptions/1 fumble) on the afternoon. Third-stringer Matt Moore is finishing out the game under center.
April 23, 2009
Jake Delhomme has inked a five-year extension with the Panthers worth $42.5MM, according to the Charlotte Observer. The contract guarantees $20MM.

Our View:Delhomme is 34 and only maintained a 84.7 efficiency rating in 2008, but the Panthers still felt he was worthy of an extension as he led the club to a 12-4 record, and a perfect 8-0 at home.
April 16, 2009
CarolinaGrowl.com is reporting that the Panthers have full confidence in Jake Delhomme and that he is the starting quarterback for the 2009 season.

Our View:The team still hasn't signed Delhomme to a contract extension, but both the head coach and general manager have professed their confidence in him as the starting quarterback. Hopefully he has put his horrendous six turnover playoff performance against the the Cardinals behind him, but he is still a decent quarterback and he still plays for a very good team.
March 26, 2009
The Carolina Panthers and quarterback Jake Delhomme have not come close to reaching an agreement on a contract extension, according to CarolinaGrowl.com.

Our View:The Panthers would like to clear up salary cap space, and Delhomme is due to count $11 million against the cap this season. Which is an awful lot for a guy who had a TD/INT ratio of 15-12 last season and a completion percentage under 60 percent. Not to mention those six turnovers against the Arizona Cardinals in the playoffs.
March 25, 2009
The Panthers are talking to Jake Delhomme's rep regarding a contract extension, according to the Charlotte Observer.

Our View:The 34-year-old vet is entering the final year of his current contract with Carolina, and is slated to count more than $11MM against their salary cap next season.
January 22, 2009
The Panthers have hired Rip Scherer as their new quarterbacks coach, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Scherer replaces Mike McCoy, who accepted a job with Denver to serve as their offensive coordinator. The 56-year-old Scherer worked the previous four years with the Browns, most recently as their assistant head coach from 2007-2008.
January 11, 2009
Jake Delhomme tied the kind of record that nobody wants a part of on Saturday. He committed six turnovers, five of which were interceptions, which was ties for the most ever committed in a single playoff game. The five interceptions also tied a Panthers franchise record. He finished 17-of-34 for 205 yards and a touchdown to go with all the turnovers.

Our View:Delhomme only committed multiple interceptions in three games this season prior to this one, so it was certainly out of character for him. We doubt he's had a worse birthday than this one.
