Fred Taylor has been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Dolphins, according to WEEI Sports.

November 5, 2009
Fred Taylor did not practice for the second straight day Thursday, according to the Providence Journal.

Our View:The 33-year-old vet missed the last three games with an ankle injury, and his odds of returning Sunday against Miami do not look good as of now. Sammy Morris (knee) is also not practicing, so Laurence Maroney could see most of the action at running back.
November 4, 2009
Fred Taylor missed Wednesday's practice due to his ailing ankle, according to the Patriots' official website.

Our View:Taylor missed the last three games, and it is uncertain if the 33-year-old vet will be able to return Sunday against Miami. Sammy Morris (knee) also missed practice, meaning Laurence Maroney could handle the bulk of the workload at running back.
October 25, 2009
Patriots inactives: RB Fred Taylor, WR Julian Edelman, OG Kendall Simmons, OT Matt Light, OG Richard Ohrnberger, DL Ron Brace, RB Sammy Morris, CB Terrence Wheatley.

Our View:Laurence Maroney should handle the bulk of the workload at running back with both Taylor and Morris inactive in a favorable matchup against Tampa Bay. Linebacker Adalius Thomas will start after being benched last week.
October 22, 2009
Fred Taylor did not practice for the second straight day Thursday, according to the Boston Globe. He is dealing with an ankle injury.

October 16, 2009

Our View:Taylor will not play Sunday against the Titans. Sammy Morris and Laurence Maroney should lead the ground attack in his absence.
October 15, 2009
Fred Taylor missed practice for the second straight day Thursday due to his ailing ankle, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:Taylor does not look to be a good bet to play Sunday against the Titans. Sammy Morris and Laurence Maroney will handle the bulk of the workload at running back if Taylor is out.
October 14, 2009
Fred Taylor missed today's practice while nursing an ankle injury, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Taylor was inactive in Week 5, and is uncertain to return in Week 6 against Tennessee. Sammy Morris led the Patriots with 17 carries for 68 rushing yards in his absence last weekend at Denver.
October 11, 2009
Week 5 inactives: RB Fred Taylor, WR Joey Galloway, CB Terrence Wheatley, Sanders, OL Rich Ohrnberger, G Kendall Simmons, DL Terdell Sands, DT Ron Brace.

Our View:Tom Brady, Randy Moss, and Wes Welker are all active for the offense, and fantasy owners can use them with confidence. Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, and Kevin Faulk could see more action with Taylor out. Vince Wilfork, Adalius Thomas, Shawn Springs, and Jerod Mayo are ready to roll for the defense. IDP owners will be happy to get Mayo back into their lineups.
October 8, 2009
The Boston Globe is now reporting that Patriots' running back Fred Taylor may indeed miss the rest of 2009 with an ankle injury.

Our View:It was initially thought that he was just going to miss "significant time," but now a "league source" says it could be the entire season. Taylor has 201 yards and two touchdowns on 45 carries so far this season, and had been a pleasant surprise in New England's backfield. Regardless of Taylor's long-term status, the pressure is back on Laurence Maroney and Sammy Morris in the short-term. Neither are likely to be viable fantasy options.
October 8, 2009
ESPN.com is reporting that Patriots' running back Fred Taylor will require surgery on his injured right ankle. Taylor is expected to miss significant time, but he is expected to return before the end of the season.

Our View:This is a big blow to the Pats and to fantasy owners who capitalized on his 201 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Look for Laurence Maroney and Kevin Faulk to pick up the slack, with Sammy Morris and possibly even BenJarvus Green-Ellis getting carries as well.
October 7, 2009
Updating a previous report, the reason Fred Taylor missed practice on Wednesday was because of an ankle injury, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:So it wasn't just an old man's day off. The severity of the injury is unknown right now. If the Patriots were a normal team, we'd say Laurence Maroney would pick up the slack were Taylor to be out Sunday, but this being the Patriots, they'll probably just throw more.
October 7, 2009
Fred Taylor did not practice on Wednesday for unknown reasons, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:This is probably a case of "being old and needing some extra time to rest" for Taylor. For the moment, there's no reason to believe he will be anything other than suited up and ready to go this Sunday.
September 27, 2009
Fred Taylor was a standout for the Patriots in today's 26-10 win over the Falcons at Gillette Stadium, as he bruised his way to a game-high 105 rushing yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. He also caught one pass for four yards.

Our View:The 33-year-old vet proved he is still capable of solid production when given enough touches. He was only given nine and eight carries over the previous two games of the season.
September 9, 2009
Patriots beat writer Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe considers Fred Taylor the team's starting running back.

Our View:Taylor has had a fine preseason, and may have earned the starting spot in New England, but in the fantasy world that means very little. The Pats will still spread the ball around to all four backs, ultimately limiting everyone's value. Taylor will see some touches, but will likely get less than Kevin Faulk, who is the best receiver of the quartet.
July 14, 2009
Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe expects Fred Taylor to play the second most snaps in the Patriots' offense behind Kevin Faulk.

Our View:The veteran running back should fit in well in New England, and looks to be productive enough to target as a deep reserve for fantasy leagues.
May 21, 2009
Veteran Fred Taylor was working with the Patriots' rookies Wednesday, according to the Boston Herald.

Our View:The 33-year-old running back is enjoying getting to know his new teammates, and could serve as a mentor for their younger players, like second-year running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis. Taylor should serve as a solid reserve this season, but his fantasy value looks to be limited since leaving Jacksonville.
May 4, 2009
The Boston Globe is reporting that Fred Taylor suffered a left wrist injury while exercising on his own in South Florida. He fell on his outstretched left hand which caused the injury.

Our View:Taylor is expected to be fine for training camp, so this injury shouldn't affect his play for this season. He was given an MRI which confirmed that there was no major damage, so he will be fine in a few weeks.
March 30, 2009
Fred Taylor will wear No. 21 with the Patriots, which he wore in college at Florida, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Safety Antwain Spann was willing to give up No. 28 for Taylor, which he wore with the Jaguars, but Taylor decided to change.
February 27, 2009
Fred Taylor has signed a deal with the Patriots, according to NFL.com. The terms of the contract were not disclosed.

Our View:He will back up Laurence Maroney, but Taylor should be worth drafting in deeper fantasy leagues, namely due to Maroney's poor track record with staying healthy over the course of a season.
February 24, 2009
Fred Taylor visited with the Bills on Tuesday and is expected to also meet with the Patriots, according to Fox Sports.com.

Our View:Taylor is 33 and is no longer a featured back in the NFL. He would have some limited value depending on his role, which might be increased should he sign with Buffalo due to the legal situation surrounding Marshawn Lynch. New England's backfield behind Laurence Maroney is far more crowded, limiting Taylor's fantasy value.
February 21, 2009
ESPN.com reports that the Patriots and Bills have emerged as the top contenders for veteran running back Fred Taylor. He is expected to meet with both teams.

Our View:The 33-year-old Taylor will likely be submerged in a limited role in either Buffalo or New England. At best, he would split time with a featured running back, much like he did in Jacksonville with Maurice Jones-Drew. Buffalo is set in the backfield provided Marshawn Lynch is not suspended by the league and New England has three or four capable backups behind starter Laurence Maroney.
February 16, 2009
Confirming previous reports, Fred Taylor was indeed released by Jacksonville on Monday, according to NFL.com.

Our View:Taylor has spent his entire 11-year career in Jacksonville and is clearly atop all of the young franchise's all-time rushing ranks with 11,271 career yards and 62 touchdowns. He'll undoubtedly find a home somewhere else, though at 33 years of age, it remains to be seen whether or not he'll get a chance to start or be used in a platoon role. Maurice Jones-Drew is now the Jaguars' clear-cut feature back heading into the 2009 season.
February 16, 2009
An undisclosed league source indicates that Fred Taylor is going to be cut by the Jaguars, according to 1010XL radio in Jacksonville.

Our View:Taylor had a great run with Jacksonville, but only averaged 3.9 yards per carry in 2008. Maurice Jones-Drew looks to be the undisputed No. 1 back for the Jaguars in 2009.
January 28, 2009
New GM Gene Smith believes Fred Taylor can still play at a high level, according to the Jaguars' official website. Smith said, "Fred is a special guy. I have strong ties to him beyond the player he is. Wayne feels strongly about Fred, as well. I think he can still play, without question, and I think he can help any team in the league."

Our View:The Jaguars will likely ask Taylor to accept a pay cut to return to Jacksonville in 2009. He only averaged 3.9 yards over 143 carries this season, and should take a back seat to Maurice Jones-Drew if he does come back.
January 12, 2009
The Jaguars have promoted Gene Smith to General Manager and senior vice president of player of personnel, according to TSN.

Our View:Smith has held numerous positions with the club and will replace James Harris who resigned as the team's vice president of player personnel on December 23. He'll hope to get the Jaguars back to the playoffs, who are just one year removed from winning a wild card game at Pittsburgh last season.
