November 13, 2009
The San Francisco Chronicle reports that Isaac Bruce's benching on Thursday had more to do with the team wanting to go young at receiver than it did with the veteran receiver's injured ankle.

Our View:Jason Hill took his spot in the lineup. At age 37, if Bruce has anything left in the tank, it would be put to better use in a veteran offense, rather than one re-breaking in a young quarterback and grooming a bevy of young receivers.

49ers' Week 10 inactives: WR Isaac Bruce, RB Glen Coffee, CB Nate Clements, T Joe Staley, DE Demetric Evans, CB Keith Smith, C Cody Wallace, and Nate Davis (3rd QB).

Our View:The Niners announced earlier in the week that Bruce and Coffee would be inactive, and the rest of the list was expected as well. Look for Jason Hill to get more targets with Bruce out tonight.
November 11, 2009
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat's Matt Maiocco believes the 49ers are phasing veteran Isaac Bruce out of their wide receiver rotation.

Our View:He is inactive for the team's Thursday night game against the Bears, but the injury is believed to be very minor. It's clear the club is going young, and Bruce is likely now fourth in line behind Michael Crabtree, Josh Morgan and Jason Hill.

San Francisco 49ers' beat writer Matt Maiocco is reporting on Twitter that wide receiver Isaac Bruce will not play Thursday night due to an ankle injury. Bruce reportedly rolled the ankle in practice on Tuesday.

Our View:Tough break here for Bruce, but the injury isn't expected to be all that serious. He has lost most of his fantasy value at this point anyway, but his absence could mean more opportunities for guys like Jason Hill and Michael Crabtree.
November 10, 2009
Matt Maiocco reports via Twitter that veteran receiver Isaac Bruce is not listed on the 49ers injury report.

Our View:Bruce has been complaining of knee and ankle soreness, but it looks like the team thinks he's fine. Even if he is fully healthy, he hasn't held much fantasy value since the addition of Michael Crabtree. Feel free to drop the No. 4 receiver if you haven't already.
November 10, 2009
The recently benched Isaac Bruce is apparently dealing with both a knee and ankle injury, according to the Sacramento Bee's Matt Barrows.

Our View:The injuries are not expected to sideline him this weekend, however. Bruce is now fourth on the Niners' receiver depth chart, and could be nearing the end at age 37. Were he to be released, a reunion with his old team, the Rams, would make a lot of sense.
November 9, 2009
Isaac Bruce appears to have been benched in San Francisco, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:Josh Morgan started in his place on Sunday, and the uber-veteran has just seven catches in his past four games. With the Niners having so many young receivers in tow, he appears to be the odd man out.
September 4, 2009
Isaac Bruce has been the most impressive receiver at 49ers camp this summer, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat. Bruce has looked smooth, precise, and professional during practices.

Our View:Bruce is 36 years old, and while he can still play the game, there is no reason that he should be anyone's top receiver. If the Niners are going to surpass expectations this season, they will need someone to step up become a legit threat. Look for that player to be Josh Morgan.
August 10, 2009
Isaac Bruce sat out Monday's evening practice after being poked in the eye earlier in the day, according to the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.

Our View:The veteran receiver is expected to be fine, and should return to practice soon. Bruce should be a starter in San Francisco this season, but is no longer a good option among fantasy receivers.
June 22, 2009
Isaac Bruce is likely to make the 49ers team this season, but will probably not start, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:Bruce has aged gracefully, but will probably not be an impact, or even fringe, fantasy player in 2009. Thank him for all the good years, but don't draft him as a sign of gratitude.
June 1, 2009
The Sacramento Bee is reporting that Isaac Bruce made his first appearance on the field Monday after sitting out the previous OTAs. Bruce was on the field wearing his customary number 80 practice jersey.

Our View:Bruce was not in attendance for the first round of OTAs in San Fran, likely because of his veteran status. He still remains a fantasy option at receiver, although his age is starting to show at this point in his career.
May 19, 2009
Isaac Bruce was absent from Monday's OTA with the 49ers, according to the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.

Our View:He is not believed to be nursing an injury, and was likely just held out as he is an older veteran.
April 1, 2009
Wide receiver Isaac Bruce will hold off on retirement and play a 16th season in the NFL, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports. Bruce, 36, led the 49ers with 61 catches, 835 yards, and seven scores in 2008.

Our View:The 49ers paid Brandon Jones to fill Bruce's flanker spot, and the former Titan may now be relegated to a backup role. We still expect Josh Morgan to take over the other starting spot and be the team's best deep threat. Bruce won't likely repeat his 2008 stats, as the 49ers are transitioning away from their Mike Martz offense.
March 21, 2009
The San Francisco 49ers have given veteran wide receiver a deadline of April 1 to decide whether he will return to the team for his 16th season, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

Our View:The 36-year-old Bruce set team-highs in catches, yards, and touchdowns a season ago. If for whatever reason he decides not to return, Bruce's flanker position would be filled by newly acquired Brandon Jones.
March 14, 2009
Isaac Bruce is not expected at minicamp with the 49ers at the end of next week, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

Our View:Bruce is yet to decide if he wants to return for a 16th NFL campaign. He led the 49ers with 61 receptions and 835 yards last season.
February 12, 2009
49ers' coach Mike Singletary stated that Isaac Bruce is figuring out his next move, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:The 36-year-old receiver is uncertain if he wants to return to the 49ers after the club parted ways with offensive coordinator Mike Martz. Bruce would be entering his 16th campaign in the NFL in 2009.
