Newsbreakers
November 20, 2009
The Detroit Free-Press is reporting that Pistons' guard Richard Hamilton took part in light practice on Friday. Hamilton took shots, but was unable to run or jump.

Our View:It was a good sign the Rip got out there today, but he doesn't look close to a return. Fantasy owners need to exercise patience, as he is hoping to make a return in a few weeks.
November 15, 2009
Richard Hamilton will not return to the Pistons' lineup by the end of their four-game road trip next week, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:Hamilton was originally thought ready to return this weekend, but his ankle simply refuses to heal. If you are desperate for scoring, Hamilton's only real fantasy strength, in smaller leagues, it may be worth dropping him.
November 13, 2009
Richard Hamilton's ankle has apparently healed to the point where he's ready to return to the Pistons lineup, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:He's missed all but one of the Pistons' eight games to this point. The earliest he could return is on Saturday against the Wizards, but the team is still expected to hold him out until they begin a four-game road trip next week.
November 9, 2009
Richard Hamilton (ankle) will likely be out of the Pistons lineup another week, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:Hamilton has yet to even begin running in his injury rehabilitation, so it could be another 2-to-3 weeks before he is ready to make a fantasy impact.
November 8, 2009
Richard Hamilton is likely to miss his sixth straight game on Sunday as he continues to battle a badly sprained ankle, according to CBS Sports.

Our View:He's probably getting close to a return, but shouldn't be started in weekly leagues next week.
November 6, 2009
Richard Hamilton will sit out a fifth straight game on Friday night as he continues to battle a sprained ankle, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:Hamilton scored 25 points in his only appearance of the season. Ben Gordon will start in his place yet again.
November 2, 2009
Richard Hamilton will miss his third consecutive game on Tuesday as he fights an ankle injury, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:The injury comes at an inopportune time for Hamilton, who was surely hoping to nail down a spot in the starting five after last year's debacle with Allen Iverson. With Ben Gordon now starting, and scoring, in his absence, we could eventually have another guard controversy on our hands in Detroit.
October 29, 2009
The Detroit News is reporitng that Pistons' guard Richard Hamilton could miss the home opener Friday due to a sore right ankle. Hamilton injured the ankle in Wednesday's win over the Grizzlies.

Our View:Rip put up 25 points in that game against the Grizzlies on Wednesday, but he said the injury hurts much worse today than it did last night. We will update his status tomorrow, but it will depend on whether he can get the swelling to go down.
October 28, 2009
In the frist game of the post Allen Iverson era, Richard Hamilton scored 25 points on Wednesday, as the Pistons routed the Grizzlies 96-74.

Our View:It was a great start for the 31-year-old Hamilton. Now his owners can only hope he doesn't get into another playing time spat with Ben Gordon this season.
July 7, 2009
In another update on the status of the Piston's head coaching position, SI.com is reporting that the team has agreed to terms with former Cleveland assistant John Kuester. The deal is believed to be for two years, with a team option for a third.

Our View:The Pistons have yet to announce this move officially, but when talks broke off with Avery Johnson the team decided to move quickly on Kuester. The team is expected to make a formal announcement later this week.
July 7, 2009
Updating a previous report, ESPN.com is reporting that the Pistons and Avery Johnson have broken off contract negotiations. Johnson wants a long-term deal, and the Pistons are only willing to give him two years with a team option for a third.

Our View:Johnson would have been an excellent fit in Detroit, but ownership did not want to give him the security he was looking for. It looks as if Cavs' assistant John Kuester is now the favorite for the job with Celtics' assistant Tom Thibodeau being the only other candidate who has been named.
July 4, 2009
The Detroit News is reporting that Avery Johnson is the favorite to be the next coach of the Detroit Pistons. The Pistons are still contacting other potential candidates.

Our View:It would make sense that the Pistons had someone in mind when they fired Michael Curry after only one season, and it looks like it might be Johnson. Another name to watch is Tom Thibodeau, the Boston assistant.
June 30, 2009
The Detroit Pistons have fired coach Michael Curry after just one season, according to ESPN.

Our View:The Pistons made the playoffs last season, but went just 39-43 in the regular season and were unceremoniously swept by LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the first round. It was also rumored that many Pistons veterans, especially Rip Hamilton, did not get along with Curry. No word yet on any potential replacements.
April 29, 2009
A source tells Pro Basketball News that the Hornets could have their eyes on Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince this summer. The Pistons are expected to overhaul their roster.

Our View:The Hornets have an obvious need at the No. 2 spot, but Prince is younger and a better defender than Hamilton. Thus, he could be a better fit. Anyway, this seems like mainly speculation at this point.
April 24, 2009
Richard Hamilton scored 15 on Friday, but it wasn't enough as the Pistons dropped Game 3 to the Cavaliers.

Our View:Hamilton added eight rebounds and six assists, but his team could still only manage 68 points. The Pistons are now in an 0-3 hole, a seemingly impossible task to come back from against the top seeded Cavs.
April 21, 2009
Richard Hamilton believes that the Pistons could execute better on offense in their playoff series with Cleveland, according to the Detroit News. Hamilton said, "We have to be a little more crisp. We had a lot of opportunities on the break and passed up shots, just thinking too much. We have to do what we've been doing all year, and play off each other."

Our View:Detroit lost Game 1 to the Cavs by 18 points. Game 2 is tonight, and Hamilton will be looking for a better showing against the No. 1 seed in the East.
April 15, 2009
Richard Hamilton is expected to be held out of Wednesday's game at Miami to get some rest before the playoffs, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Hamilton averages 18.3 points per game, and the Pistons cannot afford for him to get hurt tonight. They will open the playoffs against No. 1 seed Cleveland.
April 13, 2009
Richard Hamilton scored 25 points on 10-of-19 shooting but the Pistons fell 91-88 on Monday to the Bulls. The guard had four rebounds, three assists, and two steals in the effort.

Our View:Hamilton is playing as many minutes as ever now that Allen Iverson has been shut down for the season. He will have to catch fire in round one if the Pistons hope to challenge the Cavaliers.
April 11, 2009
Richard Hamilton was good for 23 points, four rebounds and five assists, but the Pistons fell to the Pacers 106-102 on Saturday.

Our View:Hamilton hit 10-of-23 shots from the field and connected on two of his three attempts from downtown. Saturday's game was a nice bounce back from his ten point performance on Friday.
April 4, 2009
Richard Hamilton scored 15 points in Saturday's 95-90 loss to Philadelphia, with five rebounds, four assists and one steal. He made 3-of-8 shots from three-point range.

Our View:Hamilton scored below his season average of 18.3 points, but he still had a decent overall statline.
April 3, 2009
Pistons guard Richard Hamilton says he's pursuing legal action against his former business manager, Josh Nochimson, the same man at the center of the University of Connecticut basketball team's recent recruiting allegations, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:The nature of the legal action has not been determined, but Hamilton is claiming Nochimson stole from him. Hamilton hired Nochimson, a student manager at UConn while Hamilton was a player, to be his personal assistant upon entering the NBA. He later made Nochimson a business manager in charge of his foundation, sports camps, and other various ventures.
April 1, 2009
Richard Hamilton went off on Wednesday erupting for 29 points, two rebounds, three steals and six assists. It wasn't enough though as the Pistons fell to the Nets 111-98.

Our View:This was Hamilton's second best outing since returning from injury. He has posted 29, 13, 14 and 31 points since missing six games with a strained groin.
March 31, 2009
Richard Hamilton had 13 points and six rebounds to lead the Pistons in a low scoring affair. They fell to the Cavs on Tuesday 79-73.

Our View:This was a weak game for a usually strong fantasy performer. He was only 4-of-14 shooting from the field and didn't hit a single three-point shot.
March 28, 2009
Though he shot just 11-of-29, Richard Hamilton returned to the Pistons to score 31 points and help the team beat the Wizards, 98-96.

Our View:Hamilton had been out six games, and this was a nice point total for his fantasy owners in his first game back. Despite his poor shooting percentage, he did make five of his nine three-pointers.
March 28, 2009
Richard Hamilton, who has missed the Pistons' last six games with a strained groin, appears highly likely to return to Detroit's lineup on Saturday against Washington, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:This should be a fun game to watch, as Gilbert Arenas will take the court for the first time all season for Washington, while Rasheed Wallace and Allen Iverson are also possible returnees for the Pistons, although they are both less likely to play than Hamilton and Arenas. It sounds like you can be comfortable placing Hamilton back in your active fantasy lineup.
March 26, 2009
The Detroit Free Press reports that Richard Hamilton's sore groin is progressing and he could see game action this weekend.

Our View:Hamilton is a strong fantasy player, averaging over 18 points a game, and should be inserted back into fantasy lineups once he's healthy.
March 26, 2009
Richard Hamilton will not play on Thursday for the Pistons when they take on the Lakers, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:Hamilton has not played since March 15 with a sore groin. Arron Afflolo has been starting for Hamilton, and has been up and down with his performance.
March 25, 2009
The Detroit News reports that there is a slim chance that Richard Hamilton will play on Thursday against the Lakers. He has not played in 10 days due to a sore groin.

Our View:Hamilton has been hampered by the injury for most of 2009. While being one of the more reliable fantasy options of the decade, a number of factors have contributed to making him a headache for his owners this season.
March 24, 2009
Guard Richard Hamilton (groin) may be able to return to the lineup on Thursday against the Lakers, head coach Michael Curry tells the AP. He has missed five straight games.

Our View:We should have more updates before that game. Fantasy owners will want to play it safe until we get more definitive word.
March 24, 2009
Guard Richard Hamilton (groin) has been ruled out of Tuesday's game against the Bulls, the Detroit Free Press confirms. It will be his fifth straight game out of the lineup.

Our View:The Pistons continue to play short-handed, as Allen Iverson and Rasheed Wallace are also out. Rodney Stuckey and Tayshaun Prince will need to continue picking up the slack.
March 24, 2009
Richard Hamilton is doubtful for tonight's game at Chicago, according to the Sports Network. He has missed four straight games with a strained groin.

Our View:Hamilton chipped in 30 points in his last match-up with the Bulls, but it does not look like he will return tonight as of now.
March 23, 2009
Richard Hamilton could return to the court Tuesday at Chicago depending on how his leg feels in practice today, according to the Detroit News. Hamilton has missed four straight games with a strained groin.

Our View:We will keep you posted on his status for tomorrow's game. He racked up 30 points in his last meeting with the Bulls.
March 20, 2009
Richard Hamilton is expected to miss tonight's home game against the Clippers, according to the Sports Network. He is still recovering from a strained left groin.

Our View:He would be missing his third straight game tonight. The earliest he could return would be Sunday against the Heat.
March 19, 2009
Coach Michael Curry indicated that the earliest Richard Hamilton could return to the court would be Sunday against Miami while recovering from a groin injury, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:That means he is expected to miss Friday's home game against the Clippers. He has missed the last two games with the ailment.
March 18, 2009
Richard Hamilton will be a game-time call for tonight's outing at Houston, according to the Sports Network. He is nursing a groin injury.

Our View:The club cannot afford to lose him, as they are already without Allen Iverson and Rasheed Wallace for tonight. Hamilton missed Tuesday's game at Dallas.
March 17, 2009
According to the Detroit Free Press, Richard Hamilton will miss Tuesday night's game because of a sore groin.

Our View:This doesn't sound good as Hamilton feels like he isn't getting any better. He's worth keeping an eye on because the Pistons play on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday this week as well and he could miss one or all of those games.
March 13, 2009
Richard Hamilton endured a rough shooting night (8-of-26) to lead the Pistons to a 99-95 road win at Toronto with his 24 points and career-high 16 assists.

Our View:It was a bittersweet offensive night for Hamilton, who shot just over 30 percent from the floor but kept his teammates satisfied with all the assists he was dishing out. He now has 35 assists in his last three games.
March 9, 2009
Richard Hamilton gave the Pistons a great effort on Monday, finishing with a game-high 29 points, 14 assists, three rebounds, and one steal.

Our View:Hamilton has scored 20+ points in seven consecutive games for the Pistons.
March 7, 2009
Richard Hamilton scored 22 points and handed out three assists in Detroit's 108-91 home win over Golden State on Friday.

Our View:Hamilton continued his impressive play as the replacement for the injured Allen Iverson. In four games, he is averaging 24.7 points in nearly 36 minutes a contest.
March 3, 2009
Richard Hamilton scored 21 points off 7-for-18 shooting and 7-for-7 free throws while adding seven assists in Detroit's win over Denver on Tuesday.

Our View:Hamilton has been excellent since filling in for the injured Allen Iverson in Detroit's starting lineup, averaging 25.7 points and over seven assists while going 27-for-29 from the free throw line in the three games. Given that the previously struggling Detroit has won all three contests against elite competition (at Orlando, at Boston and against Denver), you have to assume that Hamilton will stick in the starting lineup after Iverson returns to full health, meaning the Pistons will be left to decide whether to sit Iverson or Rodney Stuckey.
March 1, 2009
Starting for the injured Allen Iverson, Richard Hamilton scored a team-high 25 points as the Pistons took down the Celtics 105-95 Sunday at TD Banknorth Garden.

Our View:Hamilton recorded his third consecutive 20+ point performance. He scored just 24 points combined in the three games prior to the streak.
February 27, 2009
Richard Hamilton started in place of the injured Allen Iverson (back spasms) as the Pistons won for the first time in nine games on Friday. Hamilton hit 11-of-18 shots and finished with 31 points, six assists, and three steals in a 93-85 win over the Magic.

Our View:Don't be surprised if Iverson's back spasms linger as long as the Pistons are winning. Hamilton recently commented that he wanted back in the starting lineup, and he looked like he belonged tonight.
February 26, 2009
Richard Hamilton is displeased with his role as the Pistons' sixth man, according to the Detroit Free Press. Hamilton is unhappy coming off the bench as the Pistons have lost eight straight games and he said, "The way we have been starting, is the way coach Michael Curry wants it. I have said I am happy to come off the bench as long as we are winning. But we are losing. Something has got to give. I am all for doing whatever it takes for the team, but coming off the bench with us not winning, something has got to change."

Our View:Hamilton has been productive as the sixth man, as he averages 18.8 points over 11 games this month, meaning he should continue to be employed in fantasy lineups.
February 25, 2009
Richard Hamilton scored 24 points on 9-of-24 shooting and the Pistons fell to the Hornets 90-87 on Wednesday.

Our View:With Allen Iverson leaving eight minutes into the game because of a stiff back, Rip tried to take over the game. However, he couldn't get it going against the Hornets. He will be looking at more minutes should Iverson miss an extended period of time.
February 10, 2009
Filling in the for the flu-stricken Allen Iverson, Richard Hamilton scored a game-high 30 points on 11-of-21 shooting in Detroit's 107-102 road loss to Chicago at United Center.

Our View:Hamilton has been awesome so far this month, averaging 24.6 points and 4.6 assists in five games. In fact, Hamilton has now scored 20-plus points in three straight games, marking the first time he has done that all season.
February 8, 2009
Richard Hamilton stepped up with a game-high 27 points off of the Pistons' bench on Sunday to go with three rebounds and three assists.

Our View:This followed Hamilton's 38-point game on Saturday to give him 65 points in the past two nights, proving again that he can still be valuable for the Pistons and fantasy owners in his new role.
February 7, 2009
Richard Hamilton hit 15-of-25 shots and finished Saturday's 125-121 overtime win over the Bucks with 38 points and four assists in 36 miutes.

Our View:Hamilton shined off of the bench, while Rodney Stuckey hit just 1-of-10 shots. Could Stuckey be in danger of losing his starting job? Seems unlikely, but Hamilton and Iverson did combine for 65 points tonight.
February 4, 2009
The Detroit News reports that the Pistons' sellout streak at The Palace ended at 259 as the team welcomed the Heat into town on Wednesday. It was the first time they have not sold out in five years.

Our View:The sliding economy has arguably affected Detroit as much as any other season, but the other story here is that the fans may be sending general manager Joe Dumars a message regarding their disappointment with the team. Coach Michael Curry has been criticized repeatedly in the press, and the team has not met expectations since acquiring Allen Iverson.
February 1, 2009
Richard Hamilton shot 50 percent from the floor (6-of-13) in 27 minutes off the bench Sunday and finished Detroit's 90-80 defeat to Cleveland with 16 points and two rebounds.

Our View:Since returning from a groin tear on Jan. 13, Hamilton has been somewhat held back, playing more than 40 minutes in a game just once in 11 games. However, Hamilton has responded well so far to his limited role, averaging nearly 15 points a game over that stretch.
January 30, 2009
Richard Hamilton is expected to be a game-time call for tonight's outing with the Celtics, according to the Boston Globe.

Our View:Hamilton is hopeful to play. He averages 18.3 points over his last three games while working off the bench.
January 29, 2009
Richard Hamilton is uncertain for Friday's outing with Boston after re-aggravating his groin injury during Wednesday's battle with Memphis, according to MLive.com.

Our View:Hamilton is hopeful to play. He averages 18.3 points over his last three games while working off the bench.
January 25, 2009
Richard Hamilton had a great game for the Pistons on Sunday, coming off the bench for a game-high 27 points, five assists, and two rebounds in 31 minutes.

Our View:Hamilton has scored 51 points in three games as a bench player, showing that he can still be a formidable fantasy contributor in his new role.
January 21, 2009
Richard Hamilton only contributed seven points, four assists, and three rebounds in 21 minutes coming off the bench for the Pistons on Wednesday.

Our View:Hamilton's fantasy value could take a big hit if these are the types of minutes he's going to continue to see. Benching him for a bit may not be a bad idea for fantasy owners.
January 20, 2009
Coach Michael Curry noted that Richard Hamilton will come off the bench with Amir Johnson replacing him in the starting lineup at power forward, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:Curry anticipates Hamilton working around 30 minutes per game, which is still enough for him to remain productive as a fantasy performer.
January 19, 2009
Richard Hamilton hit 7-of-12 shots and finished with 14 points and six assists as the Pistons defeated the Grizzlis 87-79 on Monday.

Our View:Twelve of his points came in the second quarter when he was running with the second unit. It's been reported that Pistons' officials will meet on Tuesday to discuss whether to remove Hamilton or Allen Iverson out of the starting lineup. It's possible that neither player's fantasy value will suffer with the move as they would see as many, if not more, shots with the Pistons defensive minded second unit.
January 17, 2009
Richard Hamilton scored a team-high 19 points to go along with his four assists in Saturday's 91-85 loss to the Hornets.

Our View:With his 8-of-18 performance against New Orleans, Hamilton has now shot 44 percent or lower from the field in each of his past four games. Not coincidentally, the Pistons have lost all four of those contests.
January 16, 2009
Richard Hamilton posted 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, and two steals in Friday's 89-79 loss to the Thunder.

Our View:This was a good step forward for Hamilton after returning from a groin injury. His fantasy value should remain high now that he posted numbers near his scoring average of 16.7 points-per-game.
January 14, 2009
In just his second game back from returning from a groin injury, Richard Hamilton shot only 4-of-13 to finish with nine points in the Pistons' 106-110 overtime loss to the Pacers on Wednesday. He missed a game-winning opportunity in the final seconds of regulation.

Our View:Not only was Hamilton's shot off, but he only collected one rebound and one assist. He was not much better in his previous game, and recently volunteered to come off of the bench if it helps the team win. That could be where he's heading. The Pistons have not had much success with a starting lineup of Stuckey-Iverson-Hamilton-Prince-Wallace.
January 13, 2009
Richard Hamilton, who will return to the lineup tonight after missing seven games with a groin injury, isn't keen on the idea of coming off the bench, but he will do anything it takes to win, according to Mlive.com. "Whatever makes us win, I'm going to go ahead and do it," said Hamilton. "And I know A.I.; I know Tay; I know Sheed; we're in it for one reason and that's to win games."

Our View:Hamilton will be in tonight's starting lineup, but coach Michael Curry has discussed the possibility of bringing the veteran off the bench. We would bet against that happening.
January 12, 2009
Richard Hamilton is nearing his return from a groin tear that forced him to miss seven straight games, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:He will not return tonight at Utah, but is aiming at playing Tuesday in a favorable home match-up against the Bobcats. He plans on returning to the starting lineup, but coach Michael Curry may opt to use him off the bench in his first game back.
January 9, 2009
Richard Hamilton is expected to miss two more games, including tonight's battle at Denver, according to the Detroit Free Press. Coach Michael Curry said, "Rip is going to try and get some work in the next couple of days, rest on Sunday and then practice Monday and go on Tuesday."

Our View:Hamilton shall remain reserved on fantasy rosters until further notice.
January 9, 2009
Richard Hamilton remains doubtful for tonight's battle at Denver due to his ailing groin, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:Hamilton looks to miss his seventh straight game, and isn't likely to return Saturday at Utah.
January 7, 2009
Updating an earlier report, Richard Hamilton will not return to the lineup tonight at Portland, according to the Detroit News.

Our View:He will be missing his sixth straight game with a strained groin. Hamilton won't likely return on the current road trip, which includes Portland (tonight), Denver (Friday), and Utah (Saturday).
January 6, 2009
Coach Michael Curry is uncertain if Richard Hamilton will be ready to return to action Wednesday against Portland, according to the Detroit News. He is dealing with a strained groin.

Our View:Hamilton has already missed five straight games with the ailment. He shall remain reserved on fantasy rosters until further notice.
January 4, 2009
Richard Hamilton will miss Sunday's game as he continues to deal with his strained groin, according to Mlive.com.

Our View:This will be Hamilton's fifth consecutive missed game and it is still unclear when he will return.
January 3, 2009

Our View:He has missed four straight games, but it looks like he will be back soon, if not Sunday.
January 2, 2009
Updating an earlier report, Richard Hamilton has been ruled out for tonight's home game against Sacramento due to his strained groin, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Our View:This will mark his fourth straight missed game. Hopefully he will be ready to return by the start of the new fantasy week.
January 2, 2009
Richard Hamilton is unlikely to play on Friday because he is suffering from a left groin strain, according to the Sacramento Bee.

Our View:Hamilton had previously missed the team's game on Tuesday, and the strain has also been called a slight tear. He could be back by the weekend.
