Marcin Gortat missed Monday's game against Charlotte due to an illness, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Gortat is a pretty good shooter, but holds little fantasy value as a backup center.

Marcin Gortat could miss the Magic's game against the Bobcats on Monday as he battles the flu, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Our View:Dwight Howard's back-up is averaging 4.4 points and 4.8 rebounds per game this season.

Marcin Gortat, getting the start for a resting Dwight Howard, scored 14 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds in a 113-104 win over the Rockets on Friday.

Our View:Gortat did a fine Superman impression in this one. In addition to his 14 boards, he was 4-for-5 from the field and amassed an impressive six blocked shots. Maybe this guy deserves more playing time.

According to the Orlando Sentinel, Magic center Marcin Gortat has suffered a lower-back injury while playing for Poland's national team. The injury is said to be a muscle strain, and it is not considered serious.

Our View:Gortat's agent told the team that he just strained a muscle in his back and that it is nothing to worry about. He should be fine in a few days, and it shouldn't affect him at all this coming season.

In an unexpected move, the Magic have matched the Mavericks five year, $34 million offer to restricted free agent, Marcin Gortat, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Our View:The Magic were widely expected to let their backup center walk. Gortat averaged just 12 and a half minutes per game in 2008-09, but shined in the playoffs, particularly when Dwight Howard was suspended for a game in the first round. When in the game, he is almost as big of a defensive presence as Howard is, and could be worth a late round pick as a potential sleeper in 2009-10.

As expected, Marcin Gortat signed an offer sheet with the Mavericks on Wednesday, according to the Orlando Sentinel. The deal is said to be for five years and $34 million. The Magic have seven days to match it.

Our View:The Magic are not expected to match, however. Gortat did not put up great numbers in 2008-09, but played very well in the playoffs and is expected by many to have a breakout year this season. He is probably worth a late round flier.

Marcin Gortat is reportedly set to sign an offer sheet with the Mavericks next Wednesday, which the Magic will have seven days to match if they wish to keep him, according to ESPN.

Our View:Gortat is the apple of many teams' eyes this offseason, but the Mavs appear to be halfway toward landing him. The deal is rumored to be for five years at roughly $5.5 million a year in hopes of dissuading Orlando from matching it.

According to the Dallas Morning News, the Mavericks have reportedly made an offer to big man Marcin Gortat.

Our View:The Mavs have to now sit and wait to see if the Magic come back and match the offer. No word on how long or how much the contract is worth, but if this gets done it could help convince Jason Kidd to return.

According to ESPN.com, the Mavericks are pursuing free agent Marcin Gortat.

Our View:The Mavs are in need of a big man and seem to be very interested. The Rockets are also in hot pursuit, but with Yao Ming's injury status Gortat may want to look to Dallas. The Knicks and Pacers are also supposedly interested.

The New York Post is reporting that the Knicks have interest in Orlando reserve center Marcin Gortat. Gortat is unlikely to be re-signed by the Magic, and he could fill a need as a defensive presence in the middle for New York.

Our View:The Knicks seem to love Gortat, so look for this to happen at some point in this offseason. Gortat is playing sparingly right now since he is behind Dwight Howard, but he looks to have the skills to carry the load at center.

Marcin Gortat filled in admirably for the suspended Dwight Howard in Orlando's Game 6 win over Philadelphia. Gortat finished with 11 points, 15 rebounds, and four steals in 39 minutes of action while helping the Magic advance to Round 2.

Our View:Gortat has played excellent this season when Howard was unavailable. He did so again tonight and perhaps earned a little respect from the talking heads that were making fun of him earlier in the day when they were guaranteeing victories for the Magic.
April 13, 2009
Marcin Gortat got the start as Dwight Howard got the night off on Monday against the Bucks. Gortat played 43 minutes and had 10 points and 18 rebounds as the Magic lost 98-80.

Our View:Gortat has played well as Howard's backup all season, but he only averages about 12 minutes per game. Don't expect to see much of him in the postseason, although you have to appreciate the 18 boards tonight.
March 11, 2009
Marcin Gortat saw 24 minutes of action in the Magic's 107-79 blowout of the Bulls on Wednesday. He scored 13 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the win.

Our View:Gortat's had a handful of double-doubles this season. The Magic's depth behind Dwight Howard is often criticized, but Gortat nad Tony Battie have both shown potential to be capable fill-ins.
