Yao Ming underwent two successful surgeries on his fractured left foot on Tuesday, according to the Houston Chronicle.

Our View:One repaired the hairline fracture in the foot, and another attempted to realign the bones in the foot "in an effort to prevent the recurrence of the injury." The Rockets have not officially said how long they expect Yao to be out, only that he is planning on participating in training camp in October 2010. It should be a long season for the team in 2009-10.

According to the Houston Chronicle, Yao Ming will undergo surgery on his fractured left foot next week, and will likely miss the entire 2009-10 NBA season.

Our View:Yao's surgery will include a bone graft and realignment in his left foot, but it should alleviate some of the stress in the area (which is what likely caused the hairline fractures he has been plagued with the last two seasons). There is currently no timetable for his return, but since the team was granted a "disabled player exception", all signs point to him missing the entire season. Retirement isn't out of the question, but seems unlikely at this point as the surgery is being performed to prevent future injury.

Yao Ming is expected to make a decision in the next few days regarding how he'll handle the treatment of his fractured left foot, according to ESPN.

Our View:Ming could choose to immobilize his foot for three months and hope that it heals on its own, or opt to undergo surgery, which would be a safer bet but almost surely keep him out the entire 2009-10 NBA season. There are also apparently combinations of rest and surgery that he can consider, but we won't know what he plans to do until he comes out to the public in the next few days.
