Newsbreakers
November 21, 2009
Gilbert Arenas scored only 18 points on Saturday night, as Washington got blown out 106-84 by the Spurs.

Our View:Agent Zero had just two assists, his lowest total of the season.
November 20, 2009
Gilbert Arenas scored 23 points and dished eight assists in the Wizards' 127-108 loss to the Thunder on Friday.

Our View:Agent Zero is averaging 23 points and 6.5 assists so far this season, and more importantly he has remained healthy. Assmuing he keeps away from the injury bug for an entire season, he will regain his spot as a top fantasy point guard.
November 14, 2009
Gilbert Arenas was productive in tonight's 106-103 loss to Detroit, as he tallied 19 points, 10 assists, six boards, two steals and a block. He made 4-of-7 shots from three-point land.

Our View:Agent Zero failed to reach at least 20 points, but collected his first double-double of the season. He should remain a strong No. 1 point guard as long as he can stay healthy.
November 10, 2009
Gilbert Arenas led the Warriors with 21 points in Tuesday's 90-76 loss to the Heat.

Our View:Arenas was ruled out for the game and then jumped right back into the mix just before tip off. He played over 42 minutes, so the calf injury was essentially nonexistent. He had five rebounds, eight assists and three steals in the game, but turned the ball over a ridiculous 12 times.
November 10, 2009
Updating a previous report, Gilbert Arenas will indeed be active for Tuesday's game.

Our View:Apparently Arenas changed his mind at the last minute, which seems odd considering a trainer came in from Chicago to help him deal with his "injured" calf. Still, the word is out that he's playing so get him into your lineup for tonight.
November 10, 2009
According to Michael Lee on Twitter, Gilbert Arenas has been ruled out for Tuesday's game with a left calf injury.

Our View:Arenas' trainer came in from Chicago to personally treat him, so this doesn't bode well for him. We'll update his status as soon as more information is available. DeShawn Stevenson will handle point guard duties and Andray Blatche will get the start at power forward.
November 9, 2009
Gilbert Arenas sat out Wizards practice on Monday with a sore left calf, according to Michael Lee of the Washington Post.

Our View:For now, it doesn't appear to be anything serious, but with Arenas' checked injury past, you can never be certain. Until further notice, consider him active for Washington's tilt with the Heat on Tuesday.
November 8, 2009
Gilbert Arenas had 20 points, six rebounds and six assists on Sunday, but the Wizards lost 102-90 to the Suns, falling to 2-5 on the season.

Our View:Arenas has at least 20 point in six of Washington's seven games this season, and looks to be all the way back from the injuries that have plagued him the past few seasons.
November 4, 2009
Gilbert Arenas dropped 32 points against the Heat on Wednesday, but it came in a losing effort as Miami topped Washington 93-89. Arenas had three assists and two steals in the game as well.

Our View:Agent Zero has looked like his old self in five games this season, and he showed no signs of slowing down tonight. Those of you who took a chance on Arenas are being rewarded now, but he is still an injury risk.
November 3, 2009
Gilbert Arenas was productive in Tuesday's 102-90 loss at Cleveland, as he scored 22 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Our View:Arenas is performing well for fantasy owners, as he averages 26.5 points over his last four games. He should remain solid as long as he can stay healthy.
October 31, 2009
Gilbert Arenas abused a Devin Harris-less Nets lineup on Halloween night, scoring 32 points and contributing seven assists in a 123-104 Washington victory.

Our View:Agent Zero looks to be fully unencumbered by his past injuries so far this season, and is again playing at an elite level. If you gambled on him early in your draft, you have to be pleased with his early returns.
October 30, 2009
Gilbert Arenas scored a game-high 23 points in tonight's 100-89 loss at Atlanta. He also chipped in two rebounds, four assists and two steals.

Our View:Arenas performed well for fantasy owners - but his seven turnovers were a factor in Washington's loss. He averages 26 points over the first two games.
October 27, 2009
Gilbert Arenas was a standout in Tuesday's 102-91 win at Dallas, as he scored a team-high 29 points and nine assists. He also had two rebounds.

Our View:Arenas is off a great start while trying to bounce back from an injury-spoiled 2008-09 campaign. He was able to play 38 minutes in the opener.
October 14, 2009
Gilbert Arenas had another good game on Wednesday in the Wizards' 109-104 win over the Cavs. Arenas had 18 points and four assists in just 11:53 of playing time.

Our View:Arenas has looked excellent so far in the preseason, and he could very well be back to his old self. As long as he stays healthy this season, expect him to put up the big numbers we have gotten used to over his last few injury-free season.
October 13, 2009
Gilbert Arenas carried the Wizards in Tuesday's 101-98 preseason win over the Pistons, as he scored a game-high 24 points, to go along with five assists, one rebound and one steal. He played 27:40 minutes.

Our View:Coach Flip Saunders was considering holding out Arenas tonight due to concerns that the court in Detroit would be too slippery. The star guard's night ended just fine with a strong performance.
October 13, 2009
The Washington Post is reporting that Wizards' head coach Flip Saunders may rest guard Gilbert Arenas for Tuesday's preseason game against the Pistons. Saunders had some concerns about the floor being too slippery, and he doesn't want to risk injury for Arenas.

Our View:Talk about being cautious. The floor is a bit slippery, so Arenas sits out. It's a smart move, because there is no reason to play him if there is any chance the conditions could lead him closer to injury.
October 12, 2009
Wizards' guard Gilbert Arenas is holding strong to his vow to quit talking to the media, according to the Toronto Globe and Mail. When asked for comments after the Wizards 100-96 loss to the Raptors on Sunday, Arenas replied: "I'm not talking anymore." "Ever?", the reported asked. "Ever," replied Arenas.

Our View:We never thought he would make it this long keeping quiet, but it's starting to look like he is committed. The real test will be the regular season, as Arenas craves the spotlight and will have something to say whether the team is really good or really bad.
October 2, 2009
The Washington Post is reporting that Wizards' guard Gilbert Arenas was not limited at all in practice on Friday. Coach Flip Saunders said that Arenas is fine other than his finger injury, which not expected to cause him to miss any time.

Our View:Arenas has been telling the media that he is 100 percent all summer, and it looks like he was telling the truth. If Arenas can stay healthy all season, he could very well return to a very good fantasy player.
September 29, 2009
The Washington Times reports that Gilbert Arenas told reporters on media day that he intends to take less than 100 three-pointers this season. He wants to improve his shooting percentage and get his teammates more involved.

Our View:When Arenas was at his fantasy peak, from 2004-07, he averaged more than 200 three-pointers made per season. Taking that element out of his game would be a big hit to his fantasy value, but we have our doubts that he'll come through.
September 28, 2009
The Washington Post is reporting that Wizards' guard Gilbert Arenas is all business heading into the 2009-2010 season. Arenas told the media on Monday that he is done being an entertainer and that he is focused on playing basketball and being a leader for the team.

Our View:If Arenas is serious about this, it could be excellent for the Wizards for the coming season. He is one of the most talented players in the league when healthy and focused, so we could see a brand new player this season. His personality will make it tough for him to stay serious all season, as he is a guy who loves the spotlight, but we will believe him for now.
September 17, 2009
Gilbert Arenas is feeling as confident as ever, according to ESPN.com. "Nobody could guard me before, and can't nobody guard me now," Arenas told the newspaper. "If I hadn't come up here, I'd be starting off the season with a 95 percent chance that I'd be sitting out more games...(trainer Tim Grover) saved my career."

Our View:Arenas also criticized the Wizards organization for pressuring him into earlier comebacks and mishandling his rehab. Regardless, we love what we've heard from his camp this summer and he should be a Top 10 point guard this season.
September 16, 2009
According to the Washington Times, Wizards' guard Gilbert Arenas will return for Wizards' camp. Arenas has played in only 15 games over the past two season due to a knee injury.

Our View:Arenas found a new trainer over the summer, and he believes that the new guy saved his career. Arenas says he is at 100 percent, so it looks like he should be good to go barring another injury. He is an interesting fantasy case, as he has first-round potential but a ton of question marks around him. He should be worth the gamble if he starts to fall in your draft.
June 9, 2009
The Washington Post reports that Gilbert Arenas will be working out while in Orlando to attend the NBA Finals this week and is in excellent shape.

Our View:Arenas has not been in excellent shape for some time now, and has only played in 15 games the past two seasons. 2009-10 would be a good time for him to start earning the monster contract the Wizards have given him and to begin re-establishing himself as an elite fantasy player. He is currently probably not worth more than a later round pick, but will likely be drafted much higher than that. If you want him, you will probably have to gamble and take him earlier than you would like.
April 17, 2009
The Wizards have won tiebreaker with the Clippers and now have a slightly better chance of landing the No. 1 pick in the 2009 draft, the AP confirms. The Wizards and Clippers both went 19-63 this season, but the Wizards will have a 17.8 percent chance and now sit in second place. The Clippers are at 17.7 and rank third. The Kings (17-65) have a 25 percent chance of winning the draft lottery.

Our View:Hey, the Wizards won something! They are now one very small step closer to getting Blake Griffin. Tiebreakers also led to the Timberwolves (fifth) gaining a slight edge over the Grizzlies (sixth), the Bucks (10th) edging the Nets (11th), the Bulls (16th) eclipsing the 76ers (17th), and the Trail Blazers (24th) beating out the Spurs (25th) and Nuggets (26th).
April 17, 2009
Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld has announced that Ed Tapscott will not return as the head coach next season, the Washington Post reports. The team is expected to hire Flip Saunders.

Our View:This news comes as no surprise. Tapscott was named the interim head coach in late November, and the awful Wizards went 18-53 under his watch. Saunders has a tough job ahead of him.
April 14, 2009
Gilbert Arenas is questionable for Wednesday's regular season finale against Boston, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:Arenas will be an unstable fantasy option for tomorrow. He averages 13 points over two appearances this season.
April 13, 2009
The Detroit News reports that Flip Saunders is finalizing contract details that will make him the head coach of the Washington Wizards. Saunders coached the Pistons as recently as the 2007-08 season.

Our View:The Wizards fired a good coach early this season in Eddie Jordan. Saunders figures to be a significant upgrade to a roster that should enter the season with a healthy Gilbert Arenas, a high draft pick, Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison, and a host of young talent.
April 10, 2009
The Washington Post reports that Gilbert Arenas will not play against the Raptors on Friday.

Our View:Arenas has been troubled by a knee injury, and at this point in the season holds little fantasy value.
April 8, 2009
The Washington Post reports that there is a 99.99 percent chance that Gilbert Arenas does not play in Cleveland on Wednesday night. He did not participate in the morning's shoot around. There have been no setbacks regarding the health of his knee.

Our View:Arenas and the team would prefer his selective appearances come at home. They have just one home game left, coming next Monday. The guard currently holds very little fantasy value.
April 4, 2009
Gilbert Arenas was able to participate in the shootaround, but will be a game-time call for Saturday's game against Miami, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:The team did not speculate if he is leaning toward playing, and Arenas should be held out of fantasy lineups as of now.
April 2, 2009
In his second game second game this season, Gilbert Arenas shot 3-of-11 from the field to finish Washington's win over Cleveland with 11 points. He also handed out 10 assists for the second straight game to record back-to-back double-doubles.

Our View:In 62 minutes over two games this season, Arenas has shot a combined 6-of-23 from the field for 26 points to go along with an impressive 20 assists. It's unlikely he'll be set to go in consecutive games, so use discretion when inserting him into your lineup.
April 1, 2009
The Washington Post reports that Gilbert Arenas will be a game-time decision for Wednesday's much-anticipated road matchup with the Grizzlies.

Our View:The game marks the first of a back-to-back that also includes a home game with the Cavaliers. It seems more likely that he would play in front of his home crowd against his rivals rather than squaring off against Mike Conley and the Grizzlies. Then again, not much of what Arenas does makes a whole lot of sense. Consider him a risky play this evening.
March 31, 2009
According to the Washington Post, Gilbert Arenas may play on Wednesday against the Grizzlies instead of Thursday against the Cavs.

Our View:The matchup against the Grizzlies would be a better fantasy play, so check in on Arenas to see if he gets the start tomorrow. He has only appeared in one game this season, but had a double-double, so he could be valuable.
March 29, 2009
Gilbert Arenas is not expected to play in Sunday's game against the Pacers to rest his knee, according to the Sports Network.

Our View:He notched 15 points in his season debut against the Pistons Saturday, but should be held out of fantasy lineups for today. The Wizards have eight games left in the regular season.
March 28, 2009
Gilbert Arenas hit just three of his 12 shots upon his return to the Wizards, but he scored 15 points, and dished out 10 assists in his team's 98-96 loss to the Pistons.

Our View:Arenas hit half of his four three-point shots, which is a positive, as is the assist total. He played 29 minutes in the contest, which bodes well for his fantasy owners the rest of the season.
March 27, 2009
Gilbert Arenas remains on track to make his season debut against Detroit on Saturday and, should he indeed play, is expected to start, according to the Associated Press.

Our View:Arenas has missed the entire year after undergoing left knee surgery but is apparently finally back to full strength. Though his minutes will be impossible to predict and he's not expected to play back-to-back games, he should still definitely be picked up if he's still available, if for no other reason than to ensure nobody else does given the possibility of him scoring 20-plus points a game.
March 24, 2009
Updating previous reports, guard Gilbert Arenas still plans to make his season debut on Saturday against the Pistons. He is coming off left knee surgery and was able to practice on Tuesday, the Washington Post notes. Arenas will not play in any back-to-back games down the stretch.

Our View:The Wizards have only 10 games left, and they have a back-to-back on April 1-2. Fantasy owners can feel free to add him to their benches, but we don't recommend counting on him.
March 24, 2009
Gilbert Arenas intends to make his season debut Saturday against the Pistons following his long recovery from a third knee surgery, according to the Washington Times. He said, "I am anxious to see where the knee is. I can dominate practice without even trying. But in games, with the crowds and people flying at you and the adrenaline going, it is a lot different. I do not want to worry about where I am at the start of next season. I would rather get that timidness out of the way now."

Our View:Arenas feels no pain in his knee, but is not worth employing in fantasy lineups until he proves to be productive again.
March 23, 2009
Gilbert Arenas says he hopes to play on Saturday at Detroit, according to the Washington Post. Arenas has not played all season as he has been recovering from his third knee operation.

Our View:Arenas still has to get in a couple of practices and be completely cleared by the medical staff. He has reportedly been practicing in some fashion since January, and he could provide a playoff boost to fantasy owners. However, it seems as if he will just be playing on occasion, rather than every consecutive game beginning on Saturday. Pick him up at your own risk, but be sure you are not sacraficing a solid contributor in the process.
February 26, 2009
The Washington Post reports that guard Gilbert Arenas participated in a team scrimmage Thursday.

Our View:Arenas declined to speak to the media again today, so the reports on his condition are limited. At the current time, the Wizards are not holding out too much hope that their All-Star will return before the end of the season.
February 24, 2009
Gilbert Arenas is getting closer to returning to game action as has been practicing with the team since last Monday, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:There is still no timetable for his return or if he will even play in a game this season. Arenas has said that he is feeling good so do not be surprised if he comes back before the end of the year.
February 23, 2009
Gilbert Arenas participated in today's non-contact drills during practice, according to the Washington Post.

Our View:There remains no timetable if or when Arenas may be able to play in a game this season, as he is recovering from multiple surgeries to repair a torn MCL in his left knee.
January 5, 2009
The Associated Press reported Monday that Washington Wizards president Ernie Grunfeld anticipates Gilbert Arenas playing by season's end. Interim head coach Ed Tapscott shared the optimism by saying, "He can shoot and cut, so that obviously shows signs of progress, but the medical staff will determine when he'll be able to step that up."

Our View:Arenas has been sidelined all season after undergoing multiple surgeries to repair a torn MCL in his left knee more than a year ago.
January 4, 2009
The AP reports that Gilbert Arenas (knee) played 2-on-2 with his teammates recently. There is still no timetable for his return to practice.

Our View:Once he does return, Arenas has said that he will need nearly six weeks of practice before he begins playing. At this point, it appears it will be March before he begins playing.
January 3, 2009
The Boston Globe reports that Gilbert Arenas will need about six weeks of practice before being ready to play in a game.

Our View:Arenas is trying to recover from a knee injury which required surgery. There is no timetable for his return yet, but he expects to play this season.
