Newsbreakers

September 30, 2009

Carlos Torres was roughed up for five earned runs on six hits over six innings in Wednesday's 5-1 loss at Cleveland in the top half of their doubleheader. He had four walks with four strikeouts.

Our View:

Torres now has a losing record at 1-2 over five starts. He gave up five earned runs in each of his last two starts.

September 8, 2009

Carlos Torres was rocked for five earned runs on four hits over two-thirds of an inning in Tuesday's 11-3 loss to Oakland at U.S. Cellular Field. He had one walk with one strikeout.

Our View:

The rookie was a grave disappointment tonight, after hurling seven scoreless innings in his previous start against the cross-town rival Cubs. He looks to be an unstable fantasy option for his next trip to the hill.

September 3, 2009

Rookie Carlos Torres baffled a Derrek Lee-less Cubs lineup on Thursday at Wrigley Field, tossing seven innings of shutout ball, while striking out six, in the White Sox 5-0 win.

Our View:

Torres' start should be put into perspective, however, as he had allowed seven runs in 9.1 innings in two starts earlier this season. One excellent start against a punchless Cubs lineup does not a waiver wire pickup make.

September 1, 2009

Carlos Torres has been named Thursday's starter against the cross-town rival Cubs, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Our View:

Torres was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte today. He has a 6.75 ERA over two starts with Chicago this season, and is only worth a look for deeper fantasy leagues.

August 12, 2009

MLB.com is reporting that the White Sox have optioned pitcher Carlos Torres to Triple-A Charlotte to make room on the roster for the newly acquired Alex Rios. Torres struggled in his spot start on Saturday, allowing four run in 3.1 innings.

Our View:

Torres walked six in that outing, and he didn't do anything to convince the team to keep him on. He could be an option if the White Sox need another spot start, but he shouldn't have any fantasy relevance for the rest of this season.

August 8, 2009

Carlos Torres got just his second start of the season on Saturday and didn't impress. He allowed four runs on three hits and six walks before being yanked after just 3.1 innings. He did not factor in the decision as the Sox topped the Indians 8-5.

Our View:

Six walks. Ouch. Torres didn't last long in this, and for good reason. He did have five Ks, but he clearly struggled to find the strike zone. He's essentially fantasy irrelevant at this point.

August 8, 2009

The Chicago White Sox have recalled pitcher Carlos Torres from Triple-A Charlotte to start Saturday, according to MLB.com. In a corresponding move, the team optioned Jhonny Nunez to the minors.

Our View:

Torres has made one start for the team this season, and he gave up three runs in six innings against the Rays. He is not a dominant strikeout pitcher, but he uses his defense and limits big innings. He could be of use as a spot starter in AL-only leagues, but his fantasy worth probably ends there.

July 23, 2009

Carlos Torres has been optioned to Triple-A Charlotte by the Sox, according to the Associated Press. The club activated Bartolo Colon as the adjoining move.

Our View:

Torres gave up three earned runs over six innings in his first start Wednesday against the Rays. Torres was replacing the injured John Danks (finger blister), and holds no fantasy value again while sent back to the minors.

July 22, 2009

Carlos Torres gave up three earned runs on six hits over six innings in Wednesday's 4-3 win over the Rays at U.S. Cellular Field. He had three walks and three strikeouts, and allowed two homers.

Our View:

The Rays were leading 3-1 when Torres exited, so he ends the night with a no-decision rather than a win. He was making a spot-start in place of the ailing John Danks (finger blister) and will likely be sent back down to the minors if Danks is ready to take his next turn in the rotation.

July 22, 2009

Carlos Torres has been recalled by the White Sox from Triple-A Charlotte, according to TSN.

Our View:

Torres was recalled to replace John Danks (finger blister) in the rotation for tonight's home game against the Rays. He held a solid 2.20 ERA with 96 strikeouts over 98 innings in the minors this season, and is worth consideration as a flier for AL-only leagues if you need pitching help.

July 21, 2009

Carlos Torres is expected to be recalled from Triple-A Charlotte to make a spot-start Wednesday in place of the injured John Danks (finger blister), according to ESPN.

Our View:

The 26-year-old Torres is currently 8-4 with a 2.20 ERA and 96 strikeouts over 98 innings with Charlotte this season. He is worth a look as a flier for Wednesday if you need pitching help in AL-only leagues.
